[Lost & Found], IU's 1st album reflecting her determination to fill up the K-pop scene with "variety" and "abundance"
With a total of 5 tracks, IU's first mini-album [Lost & Found] has been the center the center of attention even before its release. The lyricist and producer Choi Gap-Won who released countless hits from emotional ballads to dance songs, such as "Amnesia" by Guh-mi, "Incurable Disease" by Hwee-Sung, "Toc Toc Toc" by Lee Hyo-Ri, and "Let's not cross paths again" by Chang Hye-Jin, have come together with his ultimate composer team PJ, Lee Jong-Hoon of Soul-Shop and the singer Mario to come up with a groundbreaking new genre called "Hybrid Pop". The title song "Lost Child" gives out a tropical-colored feeling and is a "hybrid pop" that allows listeners to experience three elements all at once: the basic ballad line, electronic sounds which are the latest musical trends, and hip-hop rhythms. IU's singing is able to cover a wide spectrum of genres and she is able to satisfy all three elements in this song. Moreover, she takes up three roles including the main song, chorus, and aria, surprising listeners with her sometimes powerful and sometimes mellow and dreamy vocals.

이등병 때 TV에서 이 노래가 나왔는데 딱 듣고 너무 좋았다. 가수가 누구인지 어떻게 생겼는지 알고 싶었지만 TV화면도 못쳐다보는 짬밥이라 궁금증만 남기고 지나갔었는데, 이렇게 우리나라에서 손꼽히는 여자 솔로 가수가 됐다는게 참 기쁘다.

This is one of masterpiece debut song of a korean female soloist . There is no one in south korea who debuted a ballad song with orchestra like IU.She is awsome and stunning in her own way.
경력직 중견가수가 부를 법한 노래를 데뷔곡으로 들고 나온 그녀는 대체... 떡잎부터 남달랐다
중3때 부모님이 강제로 전학을보내고 혼자서 살면서 우울증이온건지 전학간 학교에서 친구도 만들지 못하고 전학간지 한달만에 자살시도하다가 겁이나서 죽지도 못하고 하루하루 멍하니 살았던때
밤에는 무서워서 항상 mnet틀어놓고 노래들으면서 잠들었었는데 어느날 아침등교하기전에 이노래가 나오더라고요...
물론 전혀 다른내용이지만 그당시 저는 뭔가 제상황을 노래로 만든 듣한 가삿말에 너무 울컥해서 학교도 지각하고 혼자 펑펑울었어요...
그때 어린생각에 '이노랠 부른 애도 내또래같아보이는데 나와 비슷한상황을 잘 이겨내고 살고있네'
이런 생각이 들고 좀 쪽팔리더라고요.
전학가는사람이 한두명인것도 아니고 중3이지만 혼자지내는 애들도 많은데 나는 왜 무기력해져있나 생각이 들어서 다시 전 처럼 밝게 지내려고 하다보니 평범하게 살수있게 되더라고요.
그때 이노래를 안듣고 계속 그렇게 멍하니 있었으면 지금까지 제대로된 삶을 살수있었을까 생각도들고요...
뭐라고 쓰면서 끝내야될지 모르겠는데 어쨋든 지금저는 아이유님과 이노래에 감사하면서 살고있습니다.
지금 이렇게 글로써 힘들었던 일을 얘기할수 있는것 자체가 다 극복하고 그저 힘들었던 '일'로 기억하는 추억이 되었다는겁니다 너무 멋지게 잘 성장하셨네요.

Even from her debut song, one can already tell that she's a serious artist and not just some eye candy like most of what we see/hear in k-pop. This girl is truly a musical artist. It would be an insult to her and her fans to brand her as k-pop.

what! ballad was totally the thing in korea.. way more back then than now. If you go to korean karaoke more than half of the time you hear ballads in 90's and early 00's. Before kpop boom, which was around 2007-2009, it was either ballad or dance songs. and there were tons of ballad songs then. IU started around 2008, when kpop as we know it was taking shape. Everything was so new to the audience, so it took some time to convince, but she was able to take a huge part of the era of kpop as we know it. IU being an amazing artist definitely helped.

Honestly don't know. Allegedly the first audience fought she was just too young for such an amazing song. Envy or Jealousy? Who knows? All that really matters is that she got the appreciation she is deserving of now. Just kind of sad because what happened on her debut performance. She was excited for it being her first performance and then being brought down crying at the end from the audience allegedly shouting at her say such things her apparently being chubby back then.

back in 2008 when this came out, IU was a baby but it did have some popularity. IU's popularity boosted a lot after nagging and good day. when she starred in Dream High, her popularity shot up super high. if there are haters, they are probably uncultured noob fans that know nothing about earlier gen music

I really want to know why Loen decided to debut IU as a solo singer. At that time, most young trainees debuted in groups but Loen really put faith in what they are doing with IU.

The thing about IU’s songs.. they all aged like a fine wine. As year passes at diff point of time she sang, the tone and emotions just hit differently. Just look at “story only I didn’t know” that she sang in the golden hour and be like “ahh, it seems like this song is written for today” her songs fits in every generation. i wldnt doubt “mia” will be a hit ballad if this is release in 2022.

IU. Although I haven’t been with you as long as I could have, I don’t need to talk about how much you’ve changed my life. My introduction to you came from one song I happened to hear years ago, and only returned to every now and again. However, over the past few years, I took the time to actually pursue you and learn more about you. I still haven’t learned as much as I could have, but you’ve already opened my eyes to music so much. I know that a term that is used to describe your presence in music is “The Girl Next Door.” For a bit of time, I couldn’t quite understand this, and then I realized that the meaning of this isn’t in the literal term, but the feelings that are implied from it. I couldn’t quite understand why when I listened to your voice, I felt this closeness to you that I couldn’t define. Then I realized, it is because your voice represents all of the comforts and joys of one’s life. You encompass so much familiarity and nostalgia in a single note that you sing, and I’ve never heard anybody sing like this before. It is a combination of your voice that is as delicate as a lullaby, and the sincerity of the words that you sing. Anybody who hears your voice first the first time might be so overwhelmed by its individuality that they might not even be able to explain what’s happening to them at first. They could just be experiencing your voice for the first time, and it can instantly take them back to some of the happiest moments of their life. Only you can evoke these strong emotions in other people when you sing. When I hear your voice, I don’t know whether I should submit to the feelings I’ve been afraid to confront, or parade around with confidence and optimism. I'm on a nostalgic kind of journey, revisiting all of IU's earlier songs, which I used to be much more familiar with. It made me realize, especially with this song, why I stayed a fan of IU. The song is so heartwrenching, with its longing lyrics showing the struggle of not being able to forget someone and wanting them to come back, and her emotion-filled voice that just screams out her pain. Damn. The music video is even an art piece by itself, with all its unusual environment and symbolism. What a powerful piece. Props to the producers of this song and IU for delivering it so perfectly.
