I hope Roman Szmal understands how valuable these videos are and keeps sending you supplies. As a new watercolor artist, I fell in love with their paints watching these UA-cam videos and their brand is the one I have invested in. I adore it. Edit- I was not expecting to love the entire palette this much. I never love every single color in a tin and have very limited means, so I have only bought a handful of individual pans. Most of my wishlist is in this palette! I was hoping to get a few new colors by Christmas but now I'm saving however long it takes for this. Thank you so much for sharing it. It's hard to squeeze a little bit of money out for yourself when you're a single parent and I always feel so darn guilty but starting these paints has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself and it's giving me a path back to me. So excited to expand my options with these one day. I agree with your edit suggestions, the Sap Green is probably the only RS color I don't like, its gorgeous and impressively bright for a watercolor but that's also what's wrong with it, imo, it's a little too florescent. Hooker's would have been a great option. I'm also hoping to get their Autumn Green and Perylene Green. I already have and love Aquarius Green and Payne's Grey but I think my favorites here are Nickel Azo Gold (even though I have and love N.A. Yellow, this one is too gorgeous! ), Pyrrole Rubine, Shadow and Aquarius Violet and Misty Morning. But I'm just as excited for the basics here that I need for mixing and rounding out my options. What a great set! Good luck to everyone in the giveaway! 😁
@@potatopirate5557 It sounds like you deserve something special, I'm glad you treated yourself! I was never interested in RS paints until I saw Sketches use them, then I fell in love with them!
I can't watch this kind of videos cause I'll always find something new to add to the basket XD I absolutely love Roman Szmal's paints and I'm glad I can get it easily in every art store here. I cannot pick one favourite. It's absolutely impossible. In this set I love Misty Morning, Shadow Violet, Cobalt Cerulean Blue, Pyrrole Rubine, Mineral Pink is also interesting. My all time favourites are Green Gold, Aquarius Violet, Autumn Green, Indathrone Blue, STUNNING Ocean Blue, Cobalt Blue Light and the newest 2024 limited edition November. It's perfect for creating night wintery scenes. I'm absolutely obsessed with this colour. Warm greetings from Poland!
I'm still waiting for Szmal watercolors in tubes, since I've found working with pans is a little hardrer for me. But it's my first ever watercolors, and I'm still very much in love with them. I've had a pleasure of meeting the creator and his family few times on our polish urban sketchers festivals, and I'm always ending up with buying everything they recommend 😂 ❤
Wow! So beautiful!! This is one of the few sets where I love nearly all of the colors in this set and it's also quite balanced for painting all kinds of things. It really feels like if I were to curate my palette... this is what it would look like! Also that mineral pink keeps catching my eye.
I just watched 10 of your videos. I love that you care about your subscribers and their budget! I order Roman Szmal paints with my Christmas money. Can’t wait for them to get here.
The Essentials palette isn’t available for US purchasers on Jackson’s, but the individual colors have been ordered and are in their way to OK, USA! They are scheduled to arrive Friday and I’m excited! I splurged on a new brush too … of course to have a more expensive order to get cheaper shipping! 😆👍🏻♥️🎨
What a fantastic set to gift to a person starting out in watercolour! It’s got everything…the basics and a lovely range of nifty special colors. I’d personally add potters’ pink which I’ve recently acquired and find so useful. That new pink is amazing!
Love a good Paynes Grey! I've got six right now, but yes, they're all different! Getting Mineral Pink and a couple of others I saw on your video you watched yesterday. Thanks for doing the swatch video! Swatch videos make it easier to identify a color so I can add it to my collection!
I've been enjoying your videos so much and they have been incredibly helpful! I'm sure that's very appreciated by Roman Szmal too - and that's why they sent you all the goodies to show us. Also thank you for inviting us to the conversations. I have a question for you: I'd really love to try this Buff Titanium, what a gorgeous shade, but completely unsure what ways I can do it in. Would love to hear your recommendations! Thank you!!
This is a great set - I love Roman Szmal colours - the Aquarius Orange, the Autumn Green, the Cobalt Sea Blue, but also the new Pink looks wonderfully bright snd nice ! 🎨❤️
Great Video, great palette... I definitely want that Nickel Azo Gold, as well as the Aquarius Violet (the latter was sold out when I bought my Roman Szmal colours). Of those I have so far, favourites are Misty Morning, Przybysz Grey, Strontium Violet, Ocean Blue and Goethite.
I watch dozens of swatching videos and yours is easily one of the best I've ever seen! Maybe THE best!! I have basically wiped my Christmas list clean as of this morning and have put this new Roman Szmal pallette (plus the other individual colors you mentioned) onto my letter to Santa Claus all by itself! RS paints are so beautiful and so frequently recommend by artists I enjoy watching, but they are difficult to obtain here in Texas. I have an account at Jackson's but have only ordered a few things due to price and wait time. I'll probably spend the day looking for a US source "Old Saint Nick" can afford (while also watching more of your videos!) I don't usually like using most convenience mixes of multiple pigments that separate (like DS Moonglow), but that Misty Morning is so pretty, and I think it would perfect for the sunrise landscapes I like to paint. Absolutely loved your painting and how you really took advantage of the water to mix the colors on the page! Simply gorgeous!
See I find the more I fiddle with granulation colors, the more interesting they are when dry. Especially if I fiddle about 1/3 of the way through it drying
Favorite color, how about all of them. However, now I hope to acquire this set. Not only are Roman Szmals paints so nice but I'm a fan of the full pans. Dont want to spend time scrubbing around in half pans and killing my gpod brushes. Thank you for a lovely video. I'm a fan of yours, one of your videos was the first artist video I saw and I was in, hook, line and sinker. Texting you from Daytona Beach in the sunny state of Florida. Happy Thanksgiving!!
Really beautiful set of colors! Hoping to get a set of his watercolors one of these days. Lovely painting too. Tried to pick a favorite color but I love too many 😂
My favourite thing about the art membership is the community, hanging out on Zoom and Discord. I said in chat that Aquarius Green is possibly my favourite RS paint, but I do love the look of the Mineral Pink, too. It looks like a great selection of colours, thanks for switching them 😊
I clicked super fast when I saw your video this morning. I have been wanting to get the Jane Blundell set so I am happy it is now in this set along with the new ones. I will have to wait for the price of this one to go down..too expensive at the moment. I only found the set to be stocked in Artemiranda in Spain. Thanks, beautiful swatch! That red is stunning, yes a new favorite! Maria
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words Maria. I agree, beautiful colours! 16 / 24 of the Jane Blundell colours are in this one, a few of the remaining 8 being similar to what is included, the colour that isn't is the Cobalt Turquoise. Both are great sets, I prefer the essentials set, and would add the cobalt turquouise to make it the best of both worlds x
Thank you for doing the comparisons of the Azo Yellow Gold to Quin Gold Hue and Quin Gold, it's like you read my mind. I agree I'd swap out the Sap Green for either Hooker's Green or Sap Green Light. The other colours I'd need are Indanthrone Blue and Potter's Pink. My RS Lavenda does the same as yours with the white separation, so I don't know if that's a problem or not. That Mineral Pink looks interesting, I may have to invest in a new paint tin though I only have space for one half pan left. If there are 10 new colours coming out it's going to be a tough decision!
this is probably the best essentials set I've ever seen 😍😍 I tend to judge essentials sets pretty harshly depending on what options they give you for a magenta/cool red, and the fact that this set gives you more than one option makes me super excited to recommend this set to someone. maybe the only thing I'd change about the color selection is that I'd maybe swap out one of the oranges or browns for nickel azo yellow. and a super personal nitpick is that I actually like cobalt teal better than cobalt sea blue which has been featured in multiple sets already, so I kind of would have liked to see cobalt teal get the spotlight for this one, but I know that's just me. 😅
I got to see two different of my favorite UA-cam artists swatch these! I can't afford them now, but I'm gonna get these eventually. (Also, I'm not a huge fan of that sap green, and it's usually my favorite green, but I bet it's a good base for other green mixes.)
One of the many aspects of being a Kofi member is the greatest and loving community as well the livestreams and knowledgeable members. One the colors that really stuck out for which is Pyrrol Rubine. I love dark rich looking reds like Alizarin Crimson so this will be on my next Jackson's or Artemiranda order.
Watched every second of this - my favourite from this palette is the autumn green which I recently acquired. Have you tried urban grey and shadow grey? I can't get enough of these either...your painting at the end is stunning!
I was wondering why the order of this palette and see from your swatches that each row gets darker in value as you move to the right. Interesting. I would have included Lemon Yellow and Indian Yellow instead of Hansa Light and Hansa Medium and would have replaced Paynes Grey with my favorite Shadow Grey. My faves in this palette are the Mineral Pink, Cobalt Sea Blue, Pyrrole Rubine, and Aquarius Violet for its DRAMA. Your swatch of Misty Morning is the best I’ve seen and almost makes me want to give it another try ;) Indigo Hue is also a fave that would be in my essentials palette
Those are absolutely gorgeous colours! I’ve never heard of this brand before. Out of curiosity, is this line of paints student or professional grade? I love that they’re full sized pans instead of half pans.
Last comment, i swear. I've only made my own lavender, but that does seem normal compared to my homemade lavender. It def granulates a bit bc i use pb29, a cool red, and a white. But it's light granulation and just beautiful for certain things. But im personally not worried about being over realistic in my landscapes.
My favorite color was the Przybysz Gray, not only is it stunningly beautiful, but also because my last name is Przybysz!☺ And Przybysz is a pretty rare name here in the United States, so it's fun to see a paint with my last name. I'm so happy that it is a beautiful and useful color. I think I would have been greatly disappointed if it had been an ugly color that I did not like😅! Thanks to you, I decided to buy the Roman Szmal : 12 half pans Urban Sketchers Set from Jackson's. They have it on sale for $43.65 which I think is a great buy for handmade quality watercolors.
Hi SnS, yes, all lavenda's perform like this. I am surprised that Roman Szmal lists theirs as non granulating because it does have PB29 in it. For PB29 being one of the most granulating pigments, it's inevitable that it granulates a bit. Lavenda is the perfect color to use as separator between sky and ground (blues and yellows) in landscapes because it prevents the yellow tones turning the blue and therefore the sky green. Applied very tee like it is perfect to just adjust the hue of the sky as well. Give it a play and enjoy the new palette 🙂. I can't wait to put my hands on pretty much all of the new colors and I know what I will be getting myself for X-mas 😁.
I think my dislike for yellows and browns are keeping me from buying many roman szmal sets 😅 but I really love this one! And I've been obsessing over pr264 too!
When you mentioned that Roman Szmal was releasing new colors, I went to look at their Instagram. Now I'm a super excited about all the new colors coming out! Any chance they're also sending you any of the other new ones to swatch? I'm so glad you did those comparisons with the 3 new shades in the set. The mineral pink looks quite different from mineral violet, but I wonder how similar it is to Daniel Smith's rose of ultramarine. About lavender--it's made of all granulating pigments, so is it even possible to make a completely nongranulating lavender? I'm surprised it's labeled that way. I only have Holbein's lavender, and they do grind the pigments very finely, but it's still got mild granulation.
Thank you so much for this video! I got so happy when I saw it. Previous to this there wasnt a single video of anyone swatching this set. I am planning to buy it next week during the Black Friday sale. (I am from Poland, so Roman Szmal is my go-to proffesional watercolor brand). This set is really something. At first I felt that 28 colors is a little bit overkill but the assortment just makes so much sense to me. I own Cyprus Burn Umber Deep. Mine rewets a little harder that the rest (i mean its an earth pigment). Did yours have the same problem? I was wondering if they all do that or it depends on the batch. Again, thank you so much! It was so helpful and informative
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words Yarrow. I agree, beautiful colours! I'm excited for you and hope you get a fantastic deal next week. Mine rewet well, perhaps not as well as the others but still quite easily compared to other brands. Sometimes if there is a film from the packaging, it can be hard to reactivate at first (I had that with a black , but once I removed that film (with water and a firm brush) it was okay. I hope this helps and that you love your new palette x
When I g to the Jackson’s website I cannot find the exact palate you swatch above. Is it available through them. I’m in the usa. ( edited - I see I don’t think it has come out yet except for you. ?
I would like to gift myself a set of Roman Schmalz watercolor full pans. But I cannot get 24 full pans. What 12 colors would you recommend for a basic set of full pans?
I just tried using the link you provided to get 10% off but it’s not applying to my cart when I try and check out. Do you have an actual promo code I can input in my cart ? Thanks
@@SketchesnScrubs. 10% off at Jackson’s. After I click the link it goes to the website but it’s not taking off the 10% on the order in my cart. Do you have a promo code I can write instead to get the discount??
sorry Max, I don’t have a code unfortunately, only the link and it normally takes 10% off automatically if it’s your first order and eligible. It may be worth asking Jackson’s if it is your first order x
🤦♀️ I'm sorry, I was sure as I typed it that you probablyhad said it in the video. I am watching them to the end, vut I have a brain thing and have absolute rubbish working memory and have obviously forgotten what I just watched 🤣😭 I am really enjoying your videos while I have a particularly bad brain phase.
Thank you for watching and for joining the premiere and livestream Michelle :D It was lovely chatting with you - I agree, Pyrrole rubine was an unexpected new favourite for me x
I find the drying shift of reds and pinks really disappointing. They go down so vibrantly but dry so weak and flat (across all brands). The quin magenta intense seems to dry just as vibrantly as it went down. For that reason, it’s my top pic.
Hope you enjoy the video! 16/24 of the colours in this set are in the Jane Blundell set, so you could easily recreate it by adding your favourites of the remaining 8 ❤
What set is this? I tried finding the essential set on the website but its got only by the artist name pallet.. just wondering 😅 Edit: I just got the answer.. lol
I just wish the watercolor manufacturers would make their tins as beautiful as the boxes they come in. They’d sell A LOT MORE just because we want pictorial tins (like the old paint tins children would have back in the 60s and 70s, etc.) Themes, pictures, etc. We all are sick of these plain black tins. (Sorry.)
Love this brand of paints and this palette is my new fave! So awesome! Especially Mineral Pink! 🤩
I love them too!

🤣😂
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Last comment, i swear. I've only made my own lavender, but that does seem normal compared to my homemade lavender. It def granulates a bit bc i use pb29, a cool red, and a white. But it's light granulation and just beautiful for certain things. But im personally not worried about being over realistic in my landscapes.
My favorite color was the Przybysz Gray, not only is it stunningly beautiful, but also because my last name is Przybysz!☺
And Przybysz is a pretty rare name here in the United States, so it's fun to see a paint with my last name.
That is so awesome! What a small world :P It is such a beautiful colour.
I hope that you enjoy your palette too! x
😂😂😂 which colours are you drawn to in palettes? ❤
@SketchesnScrubs blues and reds 🥰
Hey, not out on Jackson's yet but available on artemiranda and peters art in europe x
I would like to gift myself a set of Roman Schmalz watercolor full pans. But I cannot get 24 full pans. What 12 colors would you recommend for a basic set of full pans?
I cannot find where this palette is available. I can't even find it via an internet search. Any idea where to get it?
It’s not on Jackson’s yet.
It was on ArteMiranda ( and Peters Art? Which I haven’t bought from but other subscribers have mentioned) xx
@@SketchesnScrubsThanks so much!
I just tried using the link you provided to get 10% off but it’s not applying to my cart when I try and check out. Do you have an actual promo code I can input in my cart ? Thanks
SKETCHES10 for 10% off Etchr, is that what you mean?
Or 10% off the basket if it’s your first order from Jackson’s x
@@SketchesnScrubs. 10% off at Jackson’s. After I click the link it goes to the website but it’s not taking off the 10% on the order in my cart. Do you have a promo code I can write instead to get the discount??
sorry Max, I don’t have a code unfortunately, only the link and it normally takes 10% off automatically if it’s your first order and eligible. It may be worth asking Jackson’s if it is your first order x
I can't pickf a favourite,do you have one?
😂😂😂 I have a lot - I share it in a video: “ the top 30 favourite Roman Szmal colours “ xx

@SketchesnScrubs30 is a good number of favourites to have 😂
@@leanneabridged No worries at all :D x
Pyrrole rubine
Thank you for watching and for joining the premiere and livestream Michelle :D It was lovely chatting with you - I agree, Pyrrole rubine was an unexpected new favourite for me x
I find the drying shift of reds and pinks really disappointing. They go down so vibrantly but dry so weak and flat (across all brands). The quin magenta intense seems to dry just as vibrantly as it went down. For that reason, it’s my top pic.
Thank you so much for watching and your observations! That's really insightful x
I’ve just read some of the comments and I have the Jane Blundell set so this palette probably isn’t for me. Still going to watch the whole video. ❤😊
Hope you enjoy the video! 16/24 of the colours in this set are in the Jane Blundell set, so you could easily recreate it by adding your favourites of the remaining 8 ❤
What set is this? I tried finding the essential set on the website but its got only by the artist name pallet.. just wondering 😅
Edit: I just got the answer.. lol
I just wish the watercolor manufacturers would make their tins as beautiful as the boxes they come in. They’d sell A LOT MORE just because we want pictorial tins (like the old paint tins children would have back in the 60s and 70s, etc.)
Themes, pictures, etc. We all are sick of these plain black tins. (Sorry.)
