- My first day in India, and it started off wonderfully! There was food at every street corner selling street food, snacks, fruits, and you'll never find yourself going hungry.
I haven't heard of the many dishes I tried in this video, and I'm so excited to share my experience in India with you guys!

yo that indian dude was mad cool and you could tell he loved sharing what he enjoys most about his culture.
That guy was like a teacher when you go into another country who actually speaks your language and teaches you their tradition and food.
Salute to those guys.
Mohit Kherada I've seen such guys... He's trying to impress the foreigner. That's why he's only showing him food stuffs that is "cool" with locals, ie non-vegetarian stuff
And it had nothing to do with the fact that Mike loves meat as he has stated countless times?
So if he is a fan, he'd know to suggest meat highlights of the area.

@@cricketknowall I don't think so because Mike has often made it clear he loves his meat. Also the guy was knowledgeable with the ingredients and really gives depth to helping us understand what's in that local dish. Also Mike wouldn't go around telling people who he is so for the guy to know him, the guy's definitely a fan. At least he's not bringing him around 'tourist trap' restaurants and to the 'cool' local places. If it were me I'd be honoured to bring Mike around for a tour. You just sound like a salty vegetarian from the way you commented.

im about 4 minutes in and i agree. Indian food completely changes people on how they view vegetarian dishes.
Yup India is heaven for vegetarians.
I like to tell folks if you are vegetarian or vegan then definitely look into east and south asian cusine especially Indian you will not be disappointed.

I am filipino but man I LOVE INDIAN FOOD here in the UK, hope to go to India for the full authentic food experience! Great vid also with those 2 locals.
You might want to choose your geography of visit before planning a trip. There are on an average 5-10,000 dishes per state and each of them has a world of variation in them. So, for example, if you want to go to southern India, make a flexible plan because if you want to take the experience in, you'll need a lot of time in each state.

The amount of diversity in food in this country NEVER fails to amaze me. I'm Indian yet haven't tried half the dishes this guy tried on his trip. But that could be attributed to the fact that I've hardly ever been outside of Delhi. XD

@Faithful member of the party. Every type food is good as long as its authentic. I hated sushi when I had the store bought ones, but Japanese sushi is incredible.

Hets Girl Great! The mixing of spices is an art. Retaining the original flavor of something without adding much nay be considered good by some. However, the perfect mixing of spices to create a new, exquisitely balanced, exotic flavor takes a lot of work and the skills needed for this are on a whole another level.

The biggest issue with Indian food is the excessive use of oil and butter. Paneer is pretty much cheese so obviously it's not the best thing to eat everyday. When I cook Indian food at home I barely use any oil and it still tastes really good. My point is that you can't use this video as an example of Indian food.

My first time having Indian food was at my friends little sisters birthday party in Korea. They came from India j think for work and wow the food was spicy and amazing and oh my goodness! I’ll try just about anything at least once happily

The local man was awesome describing how the food is made etc. I think that it's great that a lot of western countries have restaurants with food from around the world. It's a shame when they change the recipe to accommodate local taste buds.
They have to, either out of scarcity of certain ingredients or the fact that authentic recipes are too much for locals to handle :D

Amy Rivers it's not usually bc of regional tastes but not every ingredient is available to them there so they substitute. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with changing dishes since food is a thing in motion and constantly evolving.
I agree! To see what foreigners do to the sacred Swedish meatball is borderline sacreligious! The same goes for indian food here in Europe. Thankfully more and more restaurants are starting to cook more authentic food since people are getting more and more well travelled, at least here in Sweden!

@Qaasim Hussain Year 10 biryanis frum Iran genius. It was brought to the Indian Subcontinent (which Pak was a part of that time) by the Mongols. The Mongols created the Mughal Empire and then Biryani spread throughout the subcontinent. Try to get the facts right. Also Hyderabad is a place where mainly muslims reside so in India def OG biryani is found there. Im sure in pak all over the place you'd find great Biryani as well. My own obs is Muslims create the best Biryani ever :3 (I am an ex hindu and an ex budddhist)

I ate at deli darbaar with my family in 2009 and again in 2011... Was an amazing experience, can't wait for my next trip to India...

I must say, India has some really awesome food. Really unique flavors unseen by any other culture. Then again India was built on spice and is the best in the world at it.
Thank you all people of India for bringing a beautiful happiness to the mouths of the world.
Unfortunately, when immigrant Chefs bring their native cuisine to other countries, they have to 'water down' the recipes to appeal to a wider audience that isn't comfortable with powerful flavor or spices. Travel does spoil your palate. The same foods at home now seem bland. Make friends with the Chef and staff and you might get something more 'authentic' that they make for themselves...
Yeah, and watch UA-cam videos of cooking recepies by native cooks with lots of followers! I watch Indian cookery videos all the time and make my own. There is a large local Indian population so getting authentic ingredients is not a problem. Also go to the restaurant that is filled with people looking for a taste of home. If an indian restaurant is full of Indians etc (or any ethnic cuisine) order what they are having!
Follow the youtube channel called Hebbar's Kitchen. They make pure vegetarian dishes from all over India, which is of a very very large variety.
Also another factor is ingredients. Both quality and age. Not all ingredients are added/available outside of India.
Indian food is also about timing and freshness. Just baked roti out of tava(within 2 min) tastes totally different. All ingredients have to be strictly fresh, no frozen vegetables, frozen preparations.
This changes flavor a lot.

When I go for Indian in Australia they always ask you if you want mild, medium or spicy. I always say I want the Indian Medium not the White people medium the wait staff always laugh and look after me.
I once had the chef make special butter chicken for me from scratch because that's the way he would make it in India and it was on par with the best I've had in India. I complimented the dish to the owners who added it to the menu as "Delhi style butter chicken" and it's their best seller now. The only reason he offered was that I was having lunch at 4:30 and there was only one other table that was occupied.

Yup NorthEast is really an unexplored gem, i would love to explore 7 sisters though.
Japan has been my favorite food place Mike Chen visited, but this India trips looks promising. They just know spices like no other country, its there thing is say. And that is not to put any country's food down, there are tons of great dishes out there i love, more then indian food, but when it comes down to spice, Indian food it has a range thats so amazingly wide that makes it unique in there own way. Its so enjoyable!
Try our vegetarian food, snacks and drinks. You will never forget it - we have foods which are very lightly spiced (for children, elderly and those who are pregnant or sick) and a variety of savory to sweet to spicy foods depending on the region.
Once upon a time, India was the land the whole world was looking for. For its riches and spices. The British and other European countries were looking to create a spice route from India to trade and flavor their food...

So awesome to see you in India. Still huge on my bucket list. It's so hard to find the right ingredients to make good Indian cuisine at home here in the states. California would be a good place to start. Due to Silicon Valley, there are a large number of Indians and as expected Indian restaurants popped up eventually (techies side jobs). They're very close to authentic Indian food so you can try it out there if you want. Next best place would be New Jersey for the same reasons. After that London has many authentic Indian restaurants.
