    I have a huge wrist and a 46mm Navitimer looks right at home so this watch may even be a bit small for me. I only wear watches with bracelets and I wanted to add a speedmaster to my collection, but didn't want a manual wind. To me, the yellow, the dial, the bracelet, gauss are all perfect

    Allow me to interject. You ain’t gonna get an automatic 9000 series Omega Caliber in anything smaller than a 44.25mm case. It’s a BIG full fat chronograph movement coming in at a whopping 32.5mm in diameter & 7.6mm thick. Just saying. I love mine. So so accurate. A beautiful piece of horology.

    I like it. I have big wrists, so the size of this watch is appealing, especially as Omegas always wear a little smaller than their dimensions. And i like seeing Omega switch their focus to non- moon related Speedies. I have a moonwatch, so if i were to own a second Speedy I'd want it to be different. I agree on the price though - nearly £11k is definitely pushing it. It'll be interesting to see what they're going for in six months time.

    Too busy dial in a too big watch but Omega went back to its racing heritage as the Tachymetre bezel was added for auto racing. Having invested in British horologist George Daniels (1926-2011) co-axial escapement since the 1990s (first automatic co-axial wrist watch in 1999) these have now to be used in the Speedmaster series.

    I think it makes sense to introduce a new movement into a less popular range. You get to work out any manufacturing kinks and you get to test out the movement in a bigger population than your lab (remember the new Tudor GMT date problem?). Once you work out the kinks, you can ramp up production and introduce the movement into the more popular range.

      Also, it seems the quick release straps from Cartier is proprietary, so they really only created it to limited your choice of straps (search delugs straps and cartier). Do we want Omega to follow in that footstep?

    The yellow speedmaster racing is 40mm, waterproof to at least 100 meters, a Longines adapted Co-Axial Escapement, Column wheel Chronograph, based on an ETA. It is a real winner. People don't give it love because it's not an in house movement. But we know better, that's why we also like Sinn Watches, and older Rolex Chronographs, you know, the ones with the Zenith movements.

    For me 44mm really isn’t large at all. I’m baffled by this obsession for anything under 40mm. This speedy is just perfect in my eyes and harks back to the original design intentions, but I still sooner prefer the Moonwatch professional any day.

      It's because Rolex are usually smaller than Omega, so the Fanboys try and establish the goal size exactly where Rolex lies. Unfortunately there are far more examples of watches at the bigger size. Like IWC, G-Shock and even most smart/fitness watches.

On another subject, having watched you vlog on Artum straps I purchased a black omega clasp version for my faithful pre ceramic 16610 Subby. Fabulous and so comfortable makes the watch look elegant and tooly without being really noticed. Alays a good thing with a Rolex these days

    I would love to see Omega recreate their heritage classic watches with solid case backs and wearable sizes. I would give all my watch savings to have a 36-37mm Seamaster or Constellation with a lovely engraved case back like the current 40mm Railmaster, a decent 100-150m water resistance and modern tech on the inside, at 8-9mm thick.
    I've tried a few vintage Omegas and they are the most elegant beautiful and comfortable watches honestly. I don't get why most Omegas need to be 40-42mm and 13-14mm thick with those display case backs.
    I guess I'll keep waiting, or try to find a good old example, but going vintage is a bit of a mine field
    Aqua Terra 38 with a solid case back and 11-11.5,mm thickness? That would be my perfect watch too

    Big watches! Unfortunately marketing departments usually don’t listen to their core enthusiasts: they exist in a rarified world where they all listen to each other instead. They are the “fashion” side of the business and think they know what people want without bothering to ask. A huge pity!

    If you need quartz precision in a “sort of” mechanical watch that doesn’t vary based on wear pattern, get a spring drive. Those are going to be more accurate than the new Omega, and cheaper. Many dial options, and none are chronographs with more than one indication in a sub register (so no reading glasses needed). I don’t own an omega speedy racing, side of the moon, phase of the moon, chronoscope or 57 (too many two counter models). I do have their deep black chronograph, but it’s combined hour & minute sub register has a white hand and an orange hand, so no reading glasses required.

    • @diavalus
      @diavalus Рік тому

      I am not sure spring drive is cheaper. They are really expensive for a quartz. With Omega you get a mechanical chrono.

    It’s going to be a low number production model so it’s a ideal watch to launch the new technology. I’m not interested in this particular watch but theirs going to be a new Seamaster in a couple of years and if they do the same as they’ve done to the Speedmaster as in slimmer lighter more refined and with this new technology then I can’t wait. It’s exactly what the current Seamaster needs as it’s a great watch but a bit of a lump with very poor bezel action.

    Omega, like Rolex, need to make the bracelet removal a simpler process as the tolerances are just too rigid.
    Did we actually need this model? Don't get me wrong, the enhanced movement design is good, but the actual model and look just is there to match the advances made.
    Certainly does paint our moonwatches as better value for sure.

      Rolex doesnt even let you change between their bracelet and oysterflex strap. If you get it on the Oysterflex, you cant put a bracelet on it. They will never make it easy, they want rich people to spend as much money as possible.

    If Rolex released the same type of technology or accuracy you’d have a praise video. Kinda hilarious that the racing series causes the moon watch folks to bring hate because they see the speedy as a single series made for nasa. Then again the non crown
    branded criticism videos get clicks, so I get it.

      Actually we have to be thankful for all the Rolex/Moonwatch etc fanboys criticising this watch. Imaging Rolex put this technology in their new Daytona. This watch is for enthusiasts and not fanboys which in my opinion is a great thing.

    You make fair points, however, you are not the target market for the Racing range at all, in my opinion. Which is absolutely fine - we can't like all watches in existence, or, even if we like a specific model, we can't like all of its variations.
    I like to think of it this way: the Moonwatch is "the watch" for people like yourself and me, who are into "real" (so to say) horology, watchmaking/mankind history, etc; whereas with the Racing range, Omega are really trying to convert buyers who have Daytona on their wishlist (and are probably on the infamous wait list). Hence, the bigger size, flashier designs, and so on - just like the modern Daytonas. And typically, people with "big personalities" wear such watches - blingy Daytonas, bigger and more in-your-face Speedies, etc. A Moonwatch would be way too ordinary for them, just a monotone, boring piece, but for us it's a grail.
    Why introduce a racing range? It must have been launched because the Speedy was initially supposed to be a racing chronograph.

    • @ljzx
      @ljzx Рік тому +1

      What makes you say moonwatch is more holorogy than the racing?
      - the 9900 is clearly superior to the caliber 3861 (60 vs 26 jewels, higher frequency, higher power reserve)
      - the heritage of the entire lineup is based on racing theme
      One more thing: the 44mm speedy is far from a big watch. Just place it next to a breitling navitimer ;)
      Daytona is so bloody small and boring, I bought the SpeedMaster Racing White immediately after I tried the daytona - so I never understood why people think those are buying the racing speedy who can't get a daytona and not the opposite. The daytona is an investment watch...

    Great video … I want to like Omega’s but just don’t (just a weird personal thing) .. it’s a decent looking watch and given the price may be a bit of a flex piece amongst the howling at the moon community. I enjoy folk getting all hot under the collar at those extra 2mm .. us watch type geeks represent a microscopic proportion of the target market yet get excited when it feels as if the brand ignores the frustration of the few. It feels as if some of the more Euro centric brands celebrate a bit of watch heft and as I’m a died in the blood fifty fathoms fan boy I certainly support chunky wrist attire. Technically speaking it with give the Omega fan boys bragging rights for those extra 2 seconds over the crown but not one for me to lose too much sleep over 💤

  • @waterfordrs22

    This is easily the least interesting family of the family. Look at the newly redone ‘57, it’s now brilliant complement to the Pro. The Racing, until they offer it in a significantly smaller size, I’ve got no interest.
    All that aside, I believe this is a perfect place to test a new technology. As someone interested in a Pro or ‘57, the specs are only a part of the attraction. I’m not sweating over two seconds a day, even though it certainly is impressive. I’m going out on a limb by suggesting the potential Racing buyer is more likely to be more spec /tech driven - the numbers. It’s a big watch, flashy, intended to be the center of attention. Every second is more likely to matter within that milieu. Maybe not. Either way, that collection needed a bump.
    The Pro and ‘57. I suppose they could benefit from this, but I’m simply not losing sleep over the absence and I wouldn’t hold off until it’s offered there.
    Here’s one place I’d like to see this technology offered, assuming no compromise in final proportions of the watch- The Globemaster. It’s heritage is strongly linked to its competitive performance in the 50’s. It’s a stunning watch that needs a couple more dual colors. It needs sone marketing attention and while you’re at it, think about including this to the recipe Omega.

    Omega is acting like Patek did when the cancelled the 5711 while saying they were more than just a Nautilus company. The brought it back as a 5811 after a year of absence. I don’t care much for the omega two counter series, therefore I’ll wait for the new movement no one asked for to be put into a 3 counter watch or a seamaster.

    • @danielkr97
      @danielkr97 Рік тому

      You compare two things which are completely different. Patek brought back nearly the exact same watch (different material for the case) but nonetheless they didn't change anything significant. Omega achieved a new benchmark for the watchmaking industry. They may not have the status like Patek Rolex AP etc but technology wise it's difficult to beat them.

The whole idea about the movement technology that they continue to strive to improve is fantastic and that's why they are the most interesting brand to me. That being said, yes this is a large ugly watch and really so was that bumble bee AT back then ( though not large) . Lets see how this will play out, but your idea of a new Dark Side would have been spectacular. Cheers Andy

    Fair points, I can't disagree. Personally, I'm far more interested in top notch aesthetics and wearability, and "user experience" elements (like easy strap change) like you mentioned than a hyperfixation on accuracy. This doesn't excite me at all. If the engineers want to really flex and show their ability, find a way to make these chronograph movements fit properly into a slimmer case - so that a larger watch isn't so tall on the wrist.
    Omega engineers, want to impress us? Stop being lazy and complacent, and give these watches a minimum of 100m water resistance.
