My first Omega was a DeVille from 1976 I inherited from my dad. My second was a Seamaster 41mm because I wanted a diver and didn't care much (still don't) for Rolex. My third was a Speedmaster. I went with the original in Hesalite because when you want the legend, you get the legend. If this was my only watch I might have gone with the more modern movement. I got mine with the leather strap with deployment buckle because everyone seemed to get the bracelet and I just loved that strap. Both dressy and a great everyday wearer. Just a brilliant watch with a legitimate heritage.
Excellent and long needed explanation of the differences among Omega's most iconic watch. My one great regret in my horological history is having sold my "original" Moonwatch I received from my parents when I graduated from High School almost a lifetime ago. It was bought in Switzerland for $125 US in 1968. I sold it for a Rolex Date Just in 1990 for $1400 and thought I did well. If I'd only known. Alas.
Good idea to compare the speedmasters! One thing though: the speedy "sandwich" (sapphire+sapphire) doesn't have the column wheel movement (321) but a cam lever one (1863). Cheers, Ricardo.

I just got my SS on bracelet on 10.7.23 and I am very pleased with it. I have wanted a "Moonwatch" since the 70's and it looks like my timing is excellent. The 3861 with all its technical / mechanical advancements is amazing. The new 5 link melt on your wrist bracelet with the recently introduced on the fly micro length adjustment. The new stepped dial, lume, domed hands, dot over 90, etc... is close to perfection. I chose the SS because of the durability and the open case back. I love to look at the movement. I am very pleased. It set me back USD 8,000 and is still a tremendous value. Oh, yeah did I say it is beautiful. A classy, humble beautiful.
Man!!! Great channel!!! I've been wracking my brain doing countless Google / UA-cam searches on this. Your videos are the best !!!! Even had an "omega ambassador" bullshit me up real good yesterday. Didn't realize it at the time until watching two of your videos. Guess that dude was trying. To push something on me and make that commission 😂 keep up the solid content!!! Best watch channel I've found 💪🏻
Great review. In the comparison photos, if I’m viewing correctly, it appears that the entire face of the sapphire has sort of a grey tone, rather than the jet black tone. Is this correct? Thanks!

I don't know what it is about these but the indices markers and small bracelet links don't seem like they "line up" to me.. the way the hour markers are sunk between two planes make it look misaligned to me at certain angles.. the same with the small polished links.. they look offset to me... am i imagining this or is like optical allusion? contrast this with a dial that has a metal plane and applied markers with 3 link bracelet.. there's nowhere that lines don't "match up"... I want to love this but I need help with my ocd!

If I could only have one as a daily beater it would be the Explorer, but if I had several watches and could choose between other watches on a daily basis I would judge the Speedmaster as the more impressive and more interesting watch, so for that reason I rate the Speedy higher. I got many watches but are always looking forward to wearing the Speedmaster, it’s just so damn good, and yes, only the hesalite version. My favourite is the 105.003.
personally i love the halo effect of the sapphire. PLUS i get to see the beautiful Caliber. the other one i love is the 44.25mm watch. it's big as you said but wears GREAT on the wrist. no lug over hang (thanks to the shorter lug length) . the one i would get is the Dark Side of the Moon. i LOVE this piece (but it's a different story/different video).. . thanks great review.
I had this idea come over me, I wanted a quality watch but I didn't want to appear to be showing off. A watch that flies under the radar a watch that most people wouldn't know about. The speedy was the watch that found me.
Love this story. Indeed, all the watch greats tend to be classic in design, and not too flashy :-) Thanks for watching, Mr Glock! Glad you found the video helpful. Please subscribe to our channel to get updates on new videos :)
Great video thanks 👍🏼 I went with the speedy pro hesalite but then got a Mitsukoshi dial and hands fitted. I kept the original but just love the panda pie pan dial
Thanks for watching Fat-Sam! Glad you found our video helpful :) Your collection sounds awesome! 🙌🏻👌🏻 For updates on new videos, please subscribe to our UA-cam channel.
I wonder if the cases are the same between the hesalite and sapphire sandwich. I own the hesalite, but would love to see the movement. I wonder if omega could swap the back of my hesalite and put a crystal there?

Need an expert's help: [Omega Speedmaster] Bracelet question Question: Will a OMEGA STZ004194 stainless steel bracelet (the new Speedmaster bracelet with the screw links fit my Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch Ref. 3750.50 from 2014? I'm assuming all modern Speedmasters are identical in physical dimensions and lug hole placement?

The "professional" designation on the watch dial was added when Omega placed the movement into a thicker "professional" case around the time the watch was first qualified by NASA for space travel. There's a great Hodinkee article that details the history of the speedy, here's the link: www.hodinkee.com/articles/understanding-the-omega-speedmaster-professional
I hate to be “that guy,” BUT... Buzz Aldrins Speedy is government issued, and remains the property of NASA. If you find, you have to return it, otherwise you’re stealing federal property. It’d be a hell of a story though.
I just got the Speedmaster professional with the heselite. Absolutely beautiful, love the height and smoothness of the bubble crystal. Purists Unite !
Good choice! Thanks for watching Jeffrey - we're glad you found the video helpful :)

Wow, yours is an awesome collection. 🙌🏻⌚️
This is the best review of a watch model line, I have seen. Very informative. Thank you!

Got the classic 42mm moon watch and personally think it’s the most harmonic looking version
Awesome choice you made there! 🙌🏻⌚️Thanks for watching!

Just bought the new hesalite Moon Watch and I adore it! My first Speedmaster and I couldn't be happier! Great review!
Woohoo! Good choice! 🙌🏻 Thanks for watching, and we are glad you found the review helpful :)
Same here. Did you get the new, or old version of the moon watch? Unbeknownst to me at the time of purchase, I got the old version.

Thanks for watching Motorman! :) Can't go wrong with a Speedy in your collection. We agree, the Rolex Explorer is a great daily beater too.
so well presented ... Hesalite professional is a no brainer !

I'd want the Heselite 42 either the sandwich or " flight qualified". But I'd like to see the caliber.

Column wheel? In a bog-standard Speedmaster Professional?
The Speedmaster Professional is an excellent timepiece 😉
Great review!
I'd go straight traditional. Why some speedmasters have the word "professional " on the dial?
The "professional" designation on the watch dial was added when Omega placed the movement into a thicker "professional" case around the time the watch was first qualified by NASA for space travel. There's a great Hodinkee article that details the history of the speedy, here's the link: www.hodinkee.com/articles/understanding-the-omega-speedmaster-professional
The "Professional" is a trademark of references symmetrical cases :-)

It was Rolex GMT master that Jack wore did the timing for Apollo 13 to return to earth, not the Speedmaster.
Just a stopwatch
