Is Meat Eating and Animal Sacrifice part of Hinduism? (Veg Vs Non-Veg diet)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Most Hindus associate a vegetarian diet with their religion. But many Hindus eat meat and Hinduism also has a history of animal sacrifice. How exactly then is vegetarianism linked to Sanathana Dharma as a whole? This video explains the connection. Using history, Hindu scripture and philosophy the case for a vegetarian/vegan diet is made. In doing so we can see exactly how animal welfare is central to Sanathana Dharma.
I am christian, but the logic, explanation of birth, reincarnation altruism, peace and non violence, care for every living being in hinduism makes a lot of sense
Hey dear...
Hinduism is all about our own thinking and actions..
According to Hinduism
One does not needs to convert into Hinduism to get salvation..
Everyone including atheist can get salvation if their actions R good...
The TV Series "The Good Place" follows a similar kind of philosophy
I hope u will follow ur duty or "Dharma" of being a human..
And will always take side of peace...

Nischal Koch wait I have 50 characters for a name? Natuurlijk, hinduisme is fascinerend.

Hindoeïsme is inderdaad fascinerend.

How would that work out ? Because in Christianity they only accept Jesus as Lord and worshipping any other god is ildorty and yet in Hinduism there is over 33 million God's how can you be a Christian who worships Jesus and the Hindu gods at the same time? Doesn't make sense
@@Scott-rf1unit's actually 33 types and all of the gods are just different manifestations of the supreme God.

I am hindu from birth. I have never eaten non-veg in my whole life till now.Because foods in Hinduism are divided into three categories And I, my family prefer only one which is called Satvik.
Well you are not eating Satwik food its Rajsi food !!! The food that consist high spices. Satwik food is vegetables fruits nuts with less or no spices !! :) well , I am vegetarian, too !!
Same here bro. Î haven't yet seen any kind of non vegetarian foods with my naked eyes still yet. Have seen it only in movies, social media, TV and etc
Satvik food is best.
excellent video! i can't be vegetarian right now because i still live with my parents and the last time i did i became anemic but when i go to college next year i will cut out meat. i'm taking baby steps and i stopped eating beef 🙏🏾
All the best.
Hi..i would suggest you to follow doctor Micheal Gregor's channel on UA-cam to get an idea of what to eat on a plant based diet and stay healthy. You might need to do a little planning initially but later it would become natural. You can also follow indian recipes as we have a lot of vegetarian recipes with an array of vegetables that makes it easier for us to get all nutritients. Also don't forget B12 supplement.
i have sickle cell anima, i am vegetarian. i take ayurvedic medicines. If your meds are not helping you can try ayurvedic medicines.

Thanks for information 🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌👍 Hinduism is way of life 🚩🚩🚩🚩
All religions are ways of life. That is the definition of religion.
If eating meat and killing animals is part of your life then your life is a shameful one (Whatever excuss you can give in name of your religion. It wont correct it).
@Stc Replace word brahmin as Saivatees. It was Saivatees,Sakthas who did that. I never told anywhere Saivam or Saktham has a vedic root. They were non-vedic cult and got themself converted into vedic only during 10th century CE.
@Stc Vaishnavas never did Animal killing. read veda vyakaanama and bhaashyams of Vaishnva Acharyas to know the real meaning of those stanzas. Till now no Vaishnava Acharyas (starting from 8000 BCE to till current date has supported or done or justified animal sacrifices). Dont confuse shaivam with vaishnavam. Shaivam was a non-vedic cult. You are talking about Shaivam ans Saktham. Yes they are barbaric cult. They dont come under Vedic.
@Stc Nope. Your claims regarding Vaishnavam are false. Have you read Vishnu purana ? Have you read original Valmiki Ramayana ? Only Valmiki Ramayana is authorised. In Original epic there is no such claims.
I had a lot of respect for devdutt pattanaik but I started doubting him when he said that Hinduism allows meat eating...and then I found Rajiv Malhotra Fully exposed him in his channel where he showed how he fooled all Hindus with his Book "My Gita" Which is full of Errors!
Same experience lol.

Here's a full 1 hour video exposing Devdutt Pattanaik!
@@litomatoma109 I came about those expose from Ajit vadakayil.. He told these things in 2014 something itself.
@Siva chetty quite funny I am a subscriber of your channel......but you need to understand one thing in a very friendly manner sir
What Devdutt Pattanaik is doing is nothing but corrupting our Holy Texts which is quite damaging in its own...any one can make a bad meaning out of it by quoting from the best selling author of Hinduism.. which is not promoting Hinduism but it is these quotes from the corrupted best seller which are giving Muslims, Christians and atheists to speak against our sanatan dharam.. just see My Gita.....u would be shocked and be saddened to see difference in meanings in the original and his my gita and the worst thing is that he does not say it's a fiction book...he is just a person who got teachings from the western scholars...
This is where our sanatan dharam is falling why are we buying My Gita when we can buy the original from the same site and supporting them...this is where the Abrahamic religions are shining you won't find MY BIBLE there
When a person even he is of our own religion and is our brother... writing books and selling million copies on our religion and is utterly changing the meaning in a destructive way which is being taken by non believers....then that man deserve nothing but criticism.
And We don't need to fight Christian and Muslim they can get the answer by reading our original scriptures but we need to fight those who are changing our holy scriptures meaning and making Non believers and even believers read his books instead of original eg.(My Gita instead of Shrimad Bhagvad Gita) And By the way Even Christians and Muslims are our brothers too because they are also bound by Karma and all Humans comes under reality...thanks for reading. I think I said a lot.
Jai shree Ram!
Jai shree Krishna!
My understanding is that everything that lives, lives because of the presence of the spirit soul. This also goes for plants and trees. All ending of a life is considered sinful and creates karma. Bhagavd Gita 9:26 states; "If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit a water, I will accept it." BG 3:13 states: "The spiritually-minded, who eat food that is first offered in sacrifice, are released from all kinds of sin. Others, who cook food for their own enjoyment, verily eat only sin." From which follows: Food should be vegetarian and prepared and offered with love and devotion for Krishna, and He'll accept it. What's left after offering is prasadam, spiritual food. Although it looks the same it has no karma attached. Hare Krishna!
Nice sir
satvik food.

Right,

Wow! Your knowledge about Hinduism is so impressive! I am an hindu and like many of us, we have no clue about these values. Thank you for your guidance 🙏
I am an occasional meat eater but i never think i am doing the right thing. If i see this whole process of killing, i know i would never be able to eat it. 😭
I was a meat eater and so was my father.
Throughout the times when I used to hesitate seeing animal being butchered in front of me my father would always teach me that though we are eating it, it's अधर्म! I asked then why do we eat he answered in a confused way and gradually within 2 months we were turned vegetarians.
Yes ...
U have understood Hinduism (sanatana dharma) more 60% of all the Hindu in India many thanks brother

Well said. We share this planet with those animals. We have intelligence, not to exploit them but to care them. Animals have equal rights in this planet.

@Lucifer Iblees But the dairy industry in India isn't cruel, cows, buffalos, ox's are all treated well with ethics. We don't punish our cows to give ourselves milk...

In our texts meat is allowed only if you don't have access to other foods like if you live in remote areas where vegetables aren't present. But in modern days you have access to veg foods in almost every place, so we must avoid non vegetarian foods and yes even eggs.
And dairy. Dairy is the cruelest industry on the planet

Glad ur back, another great video, but i feel there's much more need to be done to put an end to all these cruelty, maybe stronger laws etc....i still blame the gods for allowing all these innocent animals to suffer decade after decades. Each year is getting worser and they have the power to put a stop to it, but do nothing. Maybe you should make a video explaining why is that so, thanks in advance.
Now I am regretting my life choices but still I stay at the pivot point of decision making in my life.

Namaste. Thanks for the amazing video. However there is correction that we need to make. Ahimsa doesn’t mean non-violence. It means minimum violence. You have also mentioned it few times. When we take Ahimsa as minimum violence, it makes more sense in Santana Dharma. Firstly, as one becomes more conscious, he or she tends to become more aware of life. Hence conscious beings moves towards vegetarianism or becomes vegan.
Why plants are considered less life than animals? Let’s you look at the energy transfer chain: plants receive energy from Sun and covert it to matter. The matter is eaten by herbivores which are eaten by omnivores or carnivores. So for a conscious being, what is the minimum violence that he can do? Of course the answer is to eat plants so that the energy waste during the transfer of energy is minimum.
As one becomes more conscious, he eats the minimum to stay alive. So he minimizes harm caused to the earth and plants.
Being Hindu is journey and not a set of moral values that needs to be followed.
Dipankar Kalita I like the way you describe it, I am trying to transition to lacto-vegetarianism but it is difficult because I live with family, who are of different lifestyle. I hope I can someday fully transition to my new lifestyle, राम राम!
kiryu2000 similar is my case. Hopefully both of us will be able transition to vegetarianism soon
Animals can feel pain but plants don't have nervous system.
Our body has herbivores digestive system. We distrmurb the meat chemically to make it eatable otherwise humans can't digest raw meat.
Eating plants isn't violence in anyways. Its not like plant always dies. We eat it's one part. Even if it dies how does it matter if it does not feel pain, doesn't have family or any sort of emotions.
However animal have right to live... They have emotions, family.
They feel pain like us.
Why to kill if we have enough alternatives to eat.
There is huge variety of vegetarian foods, they are just awesome.
Why can't we go for that.
Eating meat is not even good... For health is proved scientifically.
Humans are pseudo meat eaters... They aren't allowed by nature.... They are experimentally fitting meat in eatable form.
They are slaughtering animals on large scale.
Disturbing ecological system of earth.
Let's go vegan.
Let's say no to meat.

Thanks for making such a video, sir...💙
You have some of the best videos I have seen. Your research and explanations are always top notch. Many thanks.
😊🙏🏼❤️🕊️
Many thanks for making such a clear and methodical video. The amount if research and devotion you put into these videos really amazes me. I look forward to many more such videos. You shed light into some of the most fundamental truths of human life.
A 2013 study by the U. N. Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) estimated that total annual emission from animal agriculture (production emission plus land usage change) were about 14.5 percent of all human emissions, of which beef contributed 41 percent.
A diet heavy in meat increases the risk of obesity, Cancer and heart diseases. But it also makes the planet sick.
By replacing meat with vegetarian sources of protein, we can reduce Carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions. The whole food production process of farm-to-plate totals 30% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. Many studies have shown that vegetarians are less likely to get certain disease and type 2 diabetes.
So, the idea of vegetarianism shall not be seen as just for religious purpose (although some religions promote it), it shall be for the benefit of our own planet.
You nice, keep going.

You are not interested in making time or putting in the effort. Stop making excuses and start getting to work. Namaste.
I'm a born Hindu and I'm very annoyed at the mostly westerners and increasingly more indians who try to hijack the sanatan dharm and tell that veganism was "written in the scriptures" and other nonsense to promote their fanaticism. The typical vegan is generally arrogant, self righteous, and just plain rude in my experience. They try and tell us the "rules" of our own beliefs. Always we have taken milk and curd and other milk byproducts and have revered gomata for helping us to sustain life. We are not depriving baby cows of a meal as the pushy vegans say nor do you need to injure a cow to take milk. They also try to hijack Buddhism in this same way by boldly telling that Buddha himself promoted veganism. This is so far from truth and is quite laughable, actually. Buddha and his disciples were known to take meat on occasion. Veganism will tell that unless you are a vegan you are not following law of ahimsa which is quite hilarious. They would have you believe that veganism existed those couple thousands of years ago, another laugh. I am a strict vegetarian myself and don't (necessarily) promote taking meat. Each person must work out their own salvation and make their OWN choices in life that will affect their being. I am firmly against the nearly fascist methods and attitudes that many vegans have taken to-to promote/inflict their beliefs on others. I will end this by asking: How can you know if someone's a 'vegan'? Answer: Don't worry, they'll tell you.
SuryaDas I could not have said it better myself! Veganism is a more of a western thing and it may as well be a cult or new religion in itself; the concept of ahimsa is to value all life equally but it seems militant vegans value animal lives over humans. I also have to declare: if you're an athlete or have high physical activity, veganism is highly impractical; I tried it for about a month or two and lost a lot of muscle mass and performed poorly. I am trying to go lacto-vegetarian but I live in a Christian household, whose god said that you can eat whatever you want; thus, it is hard for me. Either way, stay away from veganism and their "holier than thou" followers who think they are saving earth; they truly are a funny bunch of extremists 😂😂😂
@@kiryu2000 Yes, thank you, friend. Your words are true, too in fact studies have proven that people who take meat in their diet are definitely overall healthier than the people on vegan diet. Athletes and sports players def needed a good source of protein. Sure you can get protein from some vegetables, lugumes, atc but if you want to add serious muscle mass meat and fish are the (only) way to go. Even Dalai Lana was diagnosed with condition that his doctor told he needed to take meat to alleviate symptoms.
@lzydwg Thanks, friend! 😃👍
SuryaDas I think I would not mind being a lacto-vegetarian (but I would only want milk and milk products from desi cows; the dairy industry in America is why veganism is so militant today), I just feel it is hard to account for potential deficiencies in creatine, iron, vitamin B12, and calcium without exclusively taking supplements.

7:39 is the most important info for all people who make excuses that plants and animals both have life and are same for food.

Great job...
You have covered all aspects.
Hinduism is not a religion it is a lifestyle
I hope the benefits of this lifestyle transcends to the world
Also there are many modern people claiming to be hindu and carrying out bad practices i totally condemn their idea and they are not following this culture rather they have made some cult out of few mixed ideas and conclusions
I see few giving negative comments about hinduism ,maybe they have not understood the true form of hinduism and might have encountered the cults
But please try to understand the thing before passing any judgements be it anything.

What a great video Sir. I have no word to describe the great heights you have achieved as a person and the work you're doing for humanity. Lots of thanks Sir.
Beautifully presented.... thank you my dear friend!
Hinduism is not a way of life. Its a way of thinking based on which you are free to design your way of life.
I would just like to add that dairy has always been a part of dharmic life, Krishna was famous for loving dairy a bit too much. Indians rear cows at home and the milk from them is not extracted in a cruel manner with calves going hungry. Traditional method involves one calf at a teat, while other teat is used to collect. Cows and calves are raised as family and worshipped. Har har mahadev
The way milk is extracted from cows in india is completely different to west. WE had cows in my village as well and we would never separate the mother from its calf or impregnate it artifically. The cows produce more milk than the calf needs to consume. WE can only take the excess milk and not the one which is meant for the calf
You're actually well educated about rich Indian tradition and heritage than most of the Indian population. People like you are needed for this country. Love you brother. I want to connect with you - do you have any other social media like WhatsApp.

There is no animal sacrifice in the Vedic rituals --- Ashwamedha Yagna means Vote of confidence of a king who desire to become an emperor.Animal sacrifice started after Islamic invasion to India.
What about shaktas? They sacrifice animals to ghosts.
When I was child some time I had to eat meat, but I always like vegetables and legumes over meat. I used to pray to God to protect me from eating meat as I used to get a very yekeeee feeling when ever I had to eat meat. God listen to my prayers and turned my entire family into vegetarian. Not only that my husband who used to love meat also turned into vegetarian all by his own will when he came to know that I am vegetarian . 😀🙏

Hinduism say that 'What you eat, What you become' i.e., "Jaisa ann vaisa Mann" and hence, classify Food in three parts :-
a. Satvik Food - Complete Pure food, excluding onion and garlic. This food make mind and soul pure and keep all at peace.
b. Rajsik Food - Contain onion and garlic. More spicy and excess sweet. Make mind and soul active. Aggresiveness is also a part of this category.
Tamsik Food :- Contain meat and oily foods. Make mind and soul angry, arrogant and ignorance.
Very well explained, thank you 🙏
Excellent video.👍👍👍
Thank you again for a wonderful video . So very happy you have introduced veganism. I was raised vegetarian and have been 99% vegan for over a year.
I'm partice Hellenisom which similar to Hinduism were are also orthparxic and we do have teaching about how eating meat is wrong or even "sinful" but it's not essential and I myself eat meat with the exception of pork which is traditionally forbidden in my sect. Animal's are said to have souls just as we do they even have the possibility to reincarnate into humans. This was a great video.
Buddha and mahaveer jain never dismissed Vedic sages their
mantras or the Devas. simply cared less,
and also thought that modern Brahmins have lost their knowledge of Vedas and are therefore not competent to teach or experience what Rşis did.
Also, buddha is the 9th avataara of vishnu.
Great insight, ahimsa is the way.
Manusmriti does not advocate meat eating or animal sacrifice but it prohibit it
It condemns anyone who does so and orders them to be punished.
The manusmriti and other scriptures you mentioned that advocstes animal cruelty are distorted versions or falsly translated versions
There is en elaborate methodology in hibdu dharm to find out what has been distorted or added in a scripture
humans will only learn when its too late....and if they learn than we still pointing at other peoples, relegion, countries....its never our own fault.
