- This is the unboxing of mynew DA-9100 dual leg Pioneer power crank set. I'll show whats in the box, how to install and connect to the Garmin ANT+ computer.
I had some problems during pairing it with the Garmin and getting it into Dual Leg mode. I'll explain how to fix this.

You sir are an absolute legend i have been having troubles with my pioneer dual siders i was ready to power slam my bike into the road you have fixed all my problems massive like and follow😍
I’m glad I could help 👍🏻
I appreciated the roll of duck tape next to the old crank set. You are a true warrior. Excellent problem solving and proud of you for not giving up.
Cheers
Man, Jasper, you're my inspiration. Your riding style is so awesome, I can't believe it. Keep making videos man, loving them!
Well done 👍. Your explanation and your video editing skill are spot on👍
Excellent video 😄. Man, your English is superb - it's better than mine, and I am English !! 😂👍
Looking good Jasper!
yes finally power! I was about to gift you my power meter so you can have power overlay in your race videos
Nice video. I miss living in Denbosch.
Can you do a follow up review on the pioneer power meter, now that you have used it for sometime now. I’m using stages left only and thinking of upgrading, would like to hear your thoughts.
good video man will you do a video on your ftp test ?
I bought a Pioneer after selling my Stages and it's working reasonably well and all. The only thing I can't stand is that I can't upgrade the firmware without the Pioneer head unit. Apparently there's a software called the firmware updater tool but I can't find it anywhere (was told by Pioneer on Twitter) and the customer service agents are clueless....
Hi Jasper! Can you follow up on the Pioneer PM? Do you recommend?
Have you managed to download updates?
Where did you buy it?
I wonder whether the pairing information was in one of the manuals you called 'not important', I would have done the same, most people throw the manuals and expect stuff to work out of the box
How does your freehub sound so nice and loud? Was it originally like that when you bought the wheels?
Mooi spul als het werkt👍🏻.
Fiets voor NL 53 39 ? .
Hi, Were you bought this power meter in Europe, Do they install pionieer power meter to delivered cranks ? Thanks
Nice. kudos on the recent acquisition. Going full range too 53-39... I must admit I am a fan of semi compact. Then again, in the netherlands you don't really have mountains to climb.
Are you going to upgrade the rest of your drivetrain to Dura Ace 9100? To make it match the new cranks ;)
Jasper Verkuijl yeah. perfectly understandable. no performance gains really and a lot costlier. Looking forward to see a 1000k report :)
Great video! I have myself a canyon cf slx 8.0 (disc brake version) I guess there shouldn't be any clearance issue with the frame. I have a question for you after a year you posted this video. What are your impressions on the power meter? Btw, do you know where is it possible to buy it in Europe (I live in Germany)...it does not seem to be present in the most popular online shop cycling website? Many thanks and keep powering it up ;)
Many thanks Jasper. Yeah, apparently they sell it on to pro and triathlon teams in Europe. I am afraid I might end up going for the Garmin vector 3. All the best Jasper with your training and keep us posted with your videos! ;)
How has been your experience with the powermeter? I am thinking about getting the same pionner powermeter but I've been reading about some connectivity problems when connected via ant + with garmin when the pioneer is in mode "dual".
Have you had any problems about this problem?
Congratulations for your videos.
Great job
Hope you heal up soon mate. We need you back making good quality race vlogs. Also please do a review of the pioneer power meter. SRM are too expensive imo and for me it's either these or quarqs. Leaning towards quarq currently.
Realiability issues is kind of scaring me off stages
what reliability are you talking about with Stages? I have stages and 4iii on both my bike. They both work flawlessly for years. I prefer 4iii over Stages though, since it's a bit lighter.
Jimmy Vo Most people I know that have stages have sent it back at least once. Not willing to risk it. 4iii is actually a good shout. Lighter, cheaper and it would seem more reliable than stages from all accounts. Does not having readings from both feet hinder you?
I assume they have the 1st gen version where there was battery door issue. 2nd gen stages version never an issue. Team Sky runs stages pm and Etixx runs 4iii. If it's good for them, it's good for me. There are many youtube videos that compare the power between single vs dual pm and the differences are marginal at best.
Hi! Nice video... I have a question, in other videos I saw them installing magnets, is that only for the cadence?
And accuracy
Do you use it with or without magnet? And are you able to have the power of each legs together and the rpm? Thanks, good video!
I use with magnet. Yes it gives L/R power
Can you send them the crank and crank arm you already own instead of buying a whole new one?
Hi Jasper, great video. I am also having pairing issues with Garmin 510 and exactly the same model Pioneer. What it does is, when i remove and put the battery back, I see red led for 5 sec and it disappers, left side is orange. Do you think it is a mode issue or a fault on PM? When I check the manual, it only says PM is faulty if both leds are solid red. In my case, only the drive side.
It is strange because I lost my connectivity in the middle of a ride and it never came back again :)
Thanks for your help
Hi bro how you resolves this problem? My pwm works great but now hi lost connectivity and comeback and again lost.
I didn't think that the Dura ace 9100 or the Ultegra 8000 crankset was backwards compatible with older components (at least that's what Shimano has been saying)?
Hi! Thanks to your video I managed to set the power meter to dual mode, but It still measures just one side. Any advice?
No idea mate sorry. Haven’t used this powermeter for a while and they are not in business anymore (pioneer)… good luck
Great video but what is the web address for the web page? I'm having exactly the same problem pairing mine to a Garmin. Please help
7:17 you stole my shirt! :p
So does that zero calibration you showed in the beginning do a zero for both left and right? I just got a Pioneer PM with a Garmin computer so I found this very interesting.
Yes. Just do it once before you ride
Can you pair this with a SRM computer?
Jasper, I take it you don't like SRAM Red, which I am a big fan of. They make a PM crank arm for it.
Thanks for the video but I'm having trouble pairing it with my Wahoo Elemnt. I tried all methods and I can't seem to get it into ant+ or dual power meter mode. I followed all instructions on the manual and the dam thing wont blink orange for me. I put in new batteries and both side blink green for at least 10 seconds..
Hi!! Same problem here, how you change mode from the solo 10seg green mode (pedaling monitor) to tha solid 10seg orange mode (dual side mode)
Really nice cranks. Is this your first time using a powermeter? I am using Rotor 3d30 cranks, any suggestions for powermeter for my cranks?
You are right sir.
I am reallu excited about the upcoming power meter related content. I am getting a power meter later. Just want to get some suggestions from you all awesomr people.
nice
Your shoes on the left ;)
So now that you've had the pioneer power meter for a while what do you think? Are you going to do a long term review?
Jasper Verkuijl o.o pioneer has accuracy issues? Shoot
Hi Jasper -- you may not have 'cured' the crank properly. In their system Pioneer opted for a real life temperature compensation feature that ensures the accuracy of their data -- but it is not well understood. You should zero calibrate your crank at a variety of temperatures at which you typically ride throughout the year and terrain. For example if I start a ride in the city and it's 30 degrees and I climb to the top of the nearby mountain where it is 15 degrees I should do a zero cal at the top. Takes 10 seconds or so its really fast. What that does is it teaches that crank what 15 degrees feels like. Or 30. Or 45 degrees. You won't ever have to zero cal at 15 degrees again -- the crank has been 'cured' and now recognizes it's own individual deflection characteristic at that temperature. There is a rider that has a dual leg Pioneer that lives near me that said to me recently "hey I calibrate my power meter EVERY morning when I go ride" so what that person has done is taught their crank really really really well what 29 degrees feels like. LOL. Other cranks use different methods of temperature compensation. Of course this is all subject I'm sure to product development / firmware updates as they roll out from the different makers of these products.
I'm not too much into the power meter topic, but wouldn't a pedal-based system like Garmin vector have been very interesting for you so that you can take it with you to LA and use it on the Fuji? Or did you read bad reviews about pedal powermeters?
Jasper Verkuijl that's how I feel pedals wear out why put a pm in them. Most of the pedal ones can be repaired but the repair price is not cheap and if they have bearings like look pedals they won't last
Waar heb je deze aangekocht?
Hey, how much did it cost?
Did you have to install the supplied magnets?
Jasper Verkuijl thanks man! Love your videos! Very inspirational! Keep it up!
I have the same bike - but my left hand power meter is rubbing against my frame - did you have the same issue?
Jasper Verkuijl yes I’ve got the disc version - the crank sensor is massive I think I need another 1.5mm to clear it - how did you resolve your issue?
Evan Turner yes it’s happening on the disc version
Product werkt verder prima 👍
@@jasperverkuijl ah top man. Bedankt.
simple2use is key, pioneer not only looks bad, it is not user friendly, when I see you having all these problems. Quarg is half the pioneer price, also dual leg and looks better to me. thanks
Christoph Pietsch quarq is not dual leg is it spider based only and caculates dual leg by by gusseing where your legs are in power phases so not a 100% but it close enough
Can you just install one side of two different bikes? Will it still work?
No
@@jasperverkuijl ok Thx!
Pioneer dual leg will not work with garmin. Garmins two leg is for their vortex pedals. It will conpute 2 legs but its not left and right its doubled like stages
Slightly jelous of that pioneer pm but my quarq works fine wish it was a dfour spider though live a learn
Do you have a coach or do you make your own training schedule? Sorry I'm sure you been asked this a million times lol
That's awesome man. keep up the great work!
Hey jasper you still have mechanical shifting? What´s youre thoughts about di2 or etap?
Can you help me.
With what?
goed bezig pik!
Thx for nice video I wonder where did u buy powermeter I'm from Korea, its hard to find website and place to buy If u dont mind, can u give me linked website adress and some information? Have a nice day :D
Ni more help to make the dual balance work
That's unfortunate it took you so long. Here's a video how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/0ZfMecXSBaU/v-deo.html
Shouldn't have thrown away the instructions lol
Whats wrong with your eye?
