  • The son of a career Naval Officer, Walter Bryan Jackson earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1999 while in the 10th grade, and participated in the JROTC program throughout his high school years. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with the Class of 2005.
On September 27, 2006, then 2nd Lt. Jackson and his unit were attempting to recover a disabled vehicle along the road in what was then the deadliest province in Iraq. As his unit worked on the disabled vehicle, they came under severe machine gun fire from insurgent forces.
The commander and first sergeant were hit almost immediately. Seeing this, Jackson quickly crossed the road to the first sergeant's side and applied a pressure bandage to the wound. Within a minute of reaching the sergeant, Jackson himself was hit in the thigh and hand. He slumped over, but continued to return suppressive fire while himself and others evacuated the wounded.
For his actions Walter Bryan Jackson would be awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, an award second only to the Medal of Honor.

Ramadi was my A/O in 06-07 it was vicious, deadly , hell on earth fighting . We didn’t leave the wire in single time in 06 Ramadi with out having a TIC or an IED . I still have bad dreams about that place .

Why do you guys keep putting thumbnails that make it look like these heroes are being shot in the head? This seems to be a recurring theme. It's so easy to use the same images, just switch sides. They are heroes, and this is a simple fix that would be much more respectful.

im very proud of veterans. my father served as a marine in combat in vietnam. but lets also acknowledge the iraq war was a criminal enterprise based on known falsehoods. hundreds of thousands of innocent iraqis died along with 4,000 americans. as americans we need to look at this and question our corrupt leadership.
