I can't imagine how much the ballet teacher is suffering. Ballet was described to me by a ballet dancer friend as "military school for girls" so the inability to create a disciplined and organized classroom must be eating that ballet teacher alive. What a tragedy.

This is Gen z too unfortunately. I taught adults in a career training last year and had these exact issues. I was shocked honestly, I remember my time in school and we had a few who were like this but not the majority as it was. I'm a late millennial ('94) and i would argue that this started with Gen X and the tech boom.

I agree with this so much. If you look at gen X they are such an indulgent generation and they see children as their accessories. Millennials have anxiety, most work constantly and put their young children in daycare right away which inhibits social development.

I am a Gen X parent of 3 kids. My youngest is technically Gen Alpha and while she's a headstrong little kid, she's always very respectful of teachers. All my kids are solidly sensible and very good academically. We are not extremely disciplinarian at home (important for kids to be independent) but we have rules and the rules we have are important ones. I would not tolerate one of my kids back-talking at school unless it was clear that it was merited.

Same. I’m a teacher, although I don’t think I’ll be back after this year. After giving both 1st grade and middle school a shot, I can say that being a parent sounds horrible I’d any of my kids turn out like these kids. At the same time though, I see that’s it’s mostly society and parenting that’s making these kids this way and that I could always try and parent differently. But I don’t know, I’m still young and don’t even have a career that I’m content with staying in.

My eldest is a second grader that reads above his grade level and is top of his class. He does have screen time but also balances it with reading, puzzles and other educational activities. My youngest is 1 1/2 and already loves books. She speaks in simple sentences and knows about 150 words. I’m a firm believer of balance. That was how I was raised and choose to raise my kids.

I'm rather confused. As a teen, I can remember Greats and Boomers calling my generation (X) superpredators and slackers. Then, the Millennials got a lot of hate in the early 2000s, being called lazy, entitled, and narcissistic, by the 2010s, Zoomers were being called impatient and obsessed with screens, and now in the 2020s, Alpha is being called the same. Is each generation successively worse than the last, or are these just kids, going through kid phases?

    • @therebekita
      @therebekita  Рік тому +9

Yes every generation has their own set of baggage one way or the other, and this generation is no different. The only thing that sets them apart is how some of the Millennial parents shut their eyes to the kids wrong doings, and the rapid way the world is advancing is not helping either so this where parents need to start parenting this generation so they can keep up!

Its the pseudo intelectual argument, the ancient greeks said the same about the youth back in the day. But they got conquered by the romans.
There are also a lot of reports where young generations got praised.
Since the industrial evolution, our survival needs were met, we started to have primarily societal problems.
Had the Gen X crime problems in certain areas? Yes? Did the lazyness and entitlement start with a good portion of the Millenials? Yes?
Its the numbers. What metrics would you need to see the problem that a lot of future citizens wont be able to participate in society as a net gain and not a drain.

I have to wonder if this isn't an issue that spans generations. My ex has uncle's that acted all their lives the exact same way you're describing these kids. They were the boys though, and 'boys will be boys' was a saying of that generation's parents. I could never if my kids did anything like this. I admit to being a millennial, however I work closely with teachers to make sure my kids, 1 GenZ and 1 Alpha, respect them and do their 'job' just like I have to go and do my job. A big saying around us is 'you have to work to be able to play' because that's how the real world works. They have also been taught that acting differently depending on environment and situation is very important and how you act at home is not how you are going to act with your friends, or during a movie, or during school hours. It's rough and may cause homicidal ideations, but taking the time early on to guide these 'lvl 1 humans' through the tutorial before they hit the hard stuff really helps, especially as they grow older and start adulting more

Actually if you look at a consistent reckoning of the generations rather than the conventional one it’s as follows:
    Millennials. 1982-1999
    Zoomers. 2000-2017
    Alphas. 2018-present
But I have a very good way to fix up these younger Zoomers and Alphas and get them behaving and doing their work. But it will cost a LOT of money.
    Hire GenXers to teach them.
Because clearly you Millennials and older Zoomers are too weak to do the job.
We GenXers will get the job done. Those kids will be whipped into shape in no time. But you got to pay us very very well and give us full reign to do what we want without interference from administrations parents or lawyers.
In fact while we GenXers are teaching the kids and whipping them into shape you Millennials and older Zoomers need to sit in and watch and learn.
I’ll bet in the country you come from the kids are far better behaved. Not sure what country it is but I love your accent and you’re also very beautiful.
