Excellent
I can hear this comment 😂
Yeah, But I'm wicked smahtah.
How about them apples? ;)
Apple sauce!!! 😂
Matt has made a career of being the smartest guy in all his movies .
Not Team America
and yet he's way below average. He thinks we all descend from a monkey. That is the beauty of Hollywood guys who only look brilliant and intelligent when in real life die overdosed and empty.

This movie was filmed mostly in an old warehouse in Brooklyn, NY. At that time, many NY players were playing at the "Mayfair" club. One night, Matt and Edward came to us because they had no idea how to hold the cards, play with the chips, etc. Very nice guys. In the movie, there is a character named "Knish", he was based on a poker legend name "Joel Bagels". It was such a sweet time in NYC. Today, it's a mess. Love this movie.
The Voters Gambled and Lost Big Time in NYC, Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, The Wager was Time and So Many must now Survive the Misery of Those Poor Decisions, Rounders is A Classic Poker Movie that really Re-ignited The Poker Game
what
You can still see they dont know what they are doing tbh. Specially when u watch damon, he has no idea. Still much love for this movie.
I was always worried that Seacaucas Sal and Joey Bag'o'donuts would show up to take their cut.
The movie is based on Norm MacDonald right?
Makes a soul read that would make Negreanu cry

In reality his character doesn’t play cards. He plays people. And seams to be good at it. Lol

I know absolutely nothing about poker [or gambling in general] nor want to - but this is one of my all-time favourite films. Brilliantly poetic script, mesmeric performances by all the cast and a beautiful soundtrack. Perfection.
I was a semipro poker player during the poker boom of 2004-07 and its a fantastic movie. Beloved by poker junkies, but its about the same as Goodwill Hunting at the end of the day. Bright people go into poker thinking they're some wonderboy, but they're not. Ton of luck involved and you need a deep deep bankroll and patience to play above small stakes. I won $6000 in July of last year, but I haven't been able to win a hand since February it seems. In short, you're lucky to know nothing and want nothing from poker. Also I think Ed Norton is better then Damon or almost anyone else. Wish he was in more movies, but maybe thats just me
@@user-zg2pr4vq8q.....Oh hum - ok Mr anally retentive, as I mentioned I AM NOT INTERESTED IN POKER [or gambling] ok! So I couldn't give a good fart for your experiences.

Thomas Charter .....An utterly sublime film. Thoroughly absorbing storyline, marvelously poetic script and dialogue [and I know absolutely nothing about cards!] excellent performances from the entire cast, beautifully paced and directed and all set to a mesmerizing soundtrack. KGB can muscle Mike off in an alley somewhere.
These guys have the power to legally put the screws to him till he has to flee town.
The thing that I liked about this story line though is Mike owned up to his own responsibilities. He could have asked for legal help but instead he got a loan and got out of Worms mess.
@@slaybomb96 That was KGB's plan from the beginning.
I think its possible, the game is 7 stud where you actually get to see whats out effectively counting cards and refining a range based on the bets preceding the last. Its possible just needs a gifted mind. Though I will grant it's glamorized, it just takes a practiced mind to put into practice.
@JohnnyAppleseed if Stu was alive today, I have no doubts he would have adapted to the new climate well
I learned tonplay poker playing 7 stud. I could read 95% of all players hands we played with. Even had a lady call the floor and say my glasses were letting me see through the cards. The game died because discipline and reading ability was all it took to almost never lose in low ante games.
I play holdem and Omaha now and my reading ability keeps me out of trouble alot. Im work on GTO but it feels like more of a grind than just enjoying poker. I have a job i play for fun gto sucks the fun out lol
@@somepeoplecanthandlethetruth Stud is fine when playing mixed as you can make a decent amount from clueless players, but it does get stale once most people get a feel for it.
Nah figuring out everybody’s exact holding on the spot is impossible. You might put them on narrow ranges but never on such exact holdings. Also predicting that everybody folds to one bet in a limit game is quite redonkolous. In such a setup, players very seldom make hero folds.
Sorry to smash your pipe dreams, I played over a decade as a poker professional and this scene is nothing but pure fiction.
Great scene with veteran actors and the young pup
veteran “actors”. ahaha they play pretend
Yes sir
I wish they made a remake of this with a cast of all dogs. That way we'd get to see a table of dogs playing poker.

Such a great movie
The only problem is I can't see 2 pair or queens folding on the river for one bet.
yeah, but it makes for an awesome scene.
@@LouisE-mp8lx Even with good players did not Negreanu did that once he was bluffing and called the other player's hand which obviously he could not beat and the other player folded.
The other inconsistency is when Mike asks what the betting limit was on 7th street, even though he clearly would know since he raised the hand on 6th street.
Eh it happens in stud

The look that Patrovski gives when he realizes how smart Mike is priceless. "you are officially never invited to our game again"

I’m enjoying reading all the amazing comments from the professional poker players who’ve graced us with their knowledge.
It doesn't take a pro to see the many issues in relationship to how poker is actually played
It doesn't take a WSOP Pro to go broke and know how poker is played. A lot of people here are probably as close to pro as you can get.
@@inkarceration4069 I give "Rounders" some slack considering how bad poker has been depicted in movies historically. The depiction of poker in this movie is incredibly good compared to movies like "Maverick" or "Honeymoon in Vegas."

Yes indeed: poker isn't really a game about cards, played by people; poker is actually a game about people, played with cards (...but it was a terrible bluff).

Wow, I didn't know Mike Postle was an actor...
Geeve da may-en hees claerksheep.
Nobody seems to mention that this type of kibitzing would never be tolerated at the Poker table. Grabbing someone's chips and betting for them while you're standing behind the players is an infamnia. Love the movie though.... for me, second best Poker film behind Cincinnati Kid.
It works because everyone at the table thinks they're smarter than the pro card player until he proves them wrong. They all are waiting for him to self-immolate.
Brilliant writing

Was a great great movie.

Just a bunch of guys enjoying their night
Where is the sequel to this movie? I'm not big on sequels but this movie needs one big time....I would enjoy seeing Worm and Michael reunited...or showing the world series of poker in Vegas or something. It's been in discussions for years but never developed I guess.
Rumor is that they're making it but I'm sure it won't be like this first movie. It will probably some climatic event where Mike will either win or lose life changing money and it comes down to something ridiculous like a straight flush over a higher straight flush.. 🙄🙄🙄 As with most movies, the original will always be the best. 💡👍👌
No it doesnt need a sequel. The ending was great. The movie was about him taking a chance in life and going for it despite incredible odds. It’s irrelevant what actually happened at the tournament he entered at the end of movie. The story was his journey to there.
Just leave this movie alone and don't tarnish it with a sequel that could never compare.
@@BackwoodsFilms I usually agree with that statement but there have been a few worthy sequels. It would have to be done right...if not I would say leave it alone too.
@@roomofidiots Yeah, but it would basically be a new story if they did a sequel 25 years later when he was at a totally different point in his life.
I cant even play poker and I love this film. For a poker player I would imagine this film really speaks to you and is like how car nuts feel about the original fast and furious (before it got ridiculous).
Imagine a film about a world class chef where every time he's going to prepare a meal he rips a massive industrial refrigerator out of the wall and throws it out the window into the street. That's literally the only action you ever see him take in the kitchen, and yet, in the very next scene there's an immaculately presented meal on the table and everyone is praising the chef's culinary expertise.
Now imagine you are actually a chef and watching that movie.
That's basically what it's like watching Rounders as a poker player.
It's still great though.
@@aaronwalker247Awesome way to put it 😂 an entertaining movie for sure, but not something you want to learn poker from
This film is both the greatest of all time and infuriating. In this scene the game is 7 card stud. They're on 6th street which means every player has 3 cards showing and 3 hidden. If what he says is true and they're not great card players, looking around at others cards to try and find what they're looking for, the average recreational poker player could probably guess this correctly 1/3 times.
Matt Damon's acting is an apple with a worm.
Is he the apple or the worm? 😉
Good kid, smart kid.
His response though when the judge tells him to pull-up a seat, such a New Yorker response. What the hell do you mean you don’t play cards?! You just read everyone’s head blind!
I mean it's not like they don't know. Later in the movie, the judge immediately assumes that the debt he owes is a gambling debt with no other information. He's basically a former alcoholic in this scene saying he doesn't drink.
@@Aerowind Gambling addiction is as real a thing as alcoholism. Some folks dismiss it because it's all in the head, but that's the thing. All addictions are partly mental, a lot because there's chemicals playing out there, too. Serotonin's a hell of a chemical that can be abused as much as alcohol, heroin, and cocaine.
You get deep into gambling because you get that need for the rush of winning a hand. There is more to it, but that's part of the basics.
"I'd like to. I don't play cards."
Terrific movie
It doesn't really matter what you have. It is the hand that the other players think you have.
was cut 10 seconds too early. "smart kid"
He never actually tells Marinacci what he’s holding, all he says is what he’s NOT holding: the third 3.
... which tells him what he's holding: A pair of 3s.
@@Tinfoilnation The pair of 3's are obviously part of the judge's up cards. You don't impress people by being able to read cards that are face-up on the table.
The third three
It’s also a bit confusing by saying the professor greenfolded it. If he has two threes there’s two more in the deck so I’m not sure what “it” he’s talking about.
Why is the audio so bad? but i did like that movie!
He’s able to instantly cold read everyone’s hands here, but it took him hours to notice KGB’s cookie tell?
Yeah that never rang true to me either.
yeah, reading amateurs is just like reading KGB... lol. Also it's a different game they are playing, hold'em gives away a lot less information each hand
when you have your entire life savings on the table thinking clearly is going to be difficult.
Teddy's tell is hard to spot. It's not the cookies. It's how the icing separates.

How does a busted straight beat a pair of Queens?
It doesn't. But he bluffed the holder of the QQ into folding.
How ya like them apples, judge?
The two pair would have called the last bet. It's limit. Very unrealistic but fun.
not if you told him you knew he had 2 pair and you bet anyway, Then its a foolish call

Let’s play some f****en cards
Not that this is one, but in a no-limit game, wouldn't the weight of a player's bankroll give them an automatic advantage. Just asking 🤔
That's hard love but I'll keep it
Wish stud was still popular
When I turned 21 in 2005, I went on my FIRST casino trip to play poker at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic CIty. Of course, I played NL hold'em first then while in a drunken stupor, I tried out 7 card stud. I was instantly hooked. I came back for subsequent trips and talked to the "regs" at the table. Most of them were players in their mid 50's to seniors and they told me about the "old" times. To sum it up, 7 card stud and limit hold'em were THEE games back in the day. The only reason why NL hold'em boomed and took over was due to the "Chris Moneymaker" effect of that WSOP and being televised on ESPN. The regs said that there were so many bad players at 7 card stud that it was easy to make a living off in that game. At that time in 2008-11, all the professionals were trying to publish their books and strategy. Ultimately, that's what ruined the soft games due to people being able to have access to those well guarded secrets and the game strategy being so broken down. It wasn't luck anymore. Now the games have dried up and they're tough as ever.
"Do you like apples?"
"No."
".......well....that really thwarted what I was gonna say next."
How you like dem apples?
How you like them apples?!?!
Can't hear it
