I play the game Portal while listening to Autechre... perfect soundtrack for a distant future, perhaps 10s of thousands of years in the future. So far into the future that the earth, all of nature, the trees, the wildlife, just take over everything and no trace of humanity remains. It starts off with what we know of as "the future", everything chrome or white, minimal to the point of emptiness, nothing but machinery and testing labs, humans are nowhere to be found, perhaps all off planet or underground in bunkers surviving off what little resources we have left... but eventually it all disintegrates. Even some perfect idea of a future where man and machine become one. Nothing escapes time. The track VLetrmx captures this perfectly. IMO Autechres melodic/ambient work is far superior to their super fast technical stuff.
Okay, Autechre can really make some great ambient tunes! I love this and hope they do more of this. This album lets me see a side of them I figured was there all along, and their credibility has gone up several notches for me.
Fantastic set! Heard some tracks here I hadn't before, so thanks again! If you do another one might ask inclusion of Flutter or Ae's Skin Up, You're Already Dead remix of St. Etienne's - Like A Motorway, both of which I think would fit the vibe. Overall 5 out 5, will listen again :)
Great playlist. i've heard these musics numerous times for many years and always wondered for Ae that what were the exact feelings, or what type of atmosphere they tried to express through these musics. Because some tracks are hugely emotional(Rae, Cichli, Piezo) that makes me think myself these guys are not really happy person irl regardless of making such beautiful musics lol Just wondered, cause they don't interview much and i have lack of information about ae and their music process cause language barrier.
I love these modernist abstract soundscapes at a juxtaposition to the chirascouro of light and shade on concrete corridors of the mind. The usefulness of the shapes is evident until you stop and question the open spaces that are only nature or useless empty concrete ideas of the imagination that will never be realised in reality.

Great mix but it's missing the most important track which helped me a lot in the past - PIEZO. Huge emotional load. That track has healing properties.
