Take that was one of the first revelations which we, the post Soviet kids, had after the USSR collapsed. And it was huge having all that great Western music to come straight to our homes at last through space antennas which only some of us could afford. I luckily was one of those whose parents could and a whole magical world started - Nirvana, Oasis, Aerosmith, Guns and Roses - all those cosmic people, and those five pretty guys out of nowhere which flushed into our little dark lives. They became like friends to me, we were of similar age and they were greatly helping in getting through those hard times. The split was a terrible blow for me, I was so disappointed that I stopped listening to them and reinvented them as a group only several weeks ago. God, it’s been a long and happy journey till now and I want this journey to go on. They are still great, Gary is my hero and all of them have nice personalities and still good songs. It was like finding childhood friends again, I am so happy I found them. And yes, Gary Barlow is very underrated as a pop songwriter. Although whole my life I was totally into classical and rock music, Take That is my happy and beloved exclusion from the rule. Never understood why they almost unknown in America.

I'm an American who has been following them since I heard "Could It Be Magic," and "It Only Takes a Minute," in the '90's. As I became aware of how huge they were in the UK and other places around the world, I became immensely frustrated at their lack of impact in the US. I was so grateful when youtube came along so that I could enjoy all of their great songs and performances that were big hits around the world. Some of the crowd reactions to their live performances were nearly akin to responses to the Beatles.

So glad I found this! I'm a huge Take That fan; I found them when I was working in Europe in the '90s and then again when they came back in 2005. My favorite songs are Patience, Said it All, Reaching Out and Here. My favorite album is Beautiful World. I think they are great performers and their live performances are superb. The Circus Live was a fantastic show. Odyssey was also really good.

I'm American and had mostly listened to classical and folk (and a bit of Fleetwood Mac) until I started listening to Take That several years ago, and I was soon addicted. I like most of their songs, and their stagecraft is magical. The story of their serendipitous revival is also thrilling. My other favorite popular group, a-Ha, is weirdly called a "one-hit wonder" in the U.S. but they're massively popular in South America, and their music is outstanding.

I didn’t know anything about Take That when they broke up, and my husband bought me their greatest hits album for my 50th birthday for a laugh. It turned out I knew all the songs on there! I love them now. They are much better the second time round.

Was not expecting a Take That top 10 to appear but pleasantly surprised it did! Grew up with a lot of their stuff, Never Forget is probably my pick of the bunch but I'm also a big fan of Back for Good, Million Love Songs and Rule The World too. They have so many well written and catchy songs. It's easy to forget just how big they were, I was astounded when you read the stats Shawn!

Got to love Take That. They are national treasures by this point. As a Brit, I knew most of these songs but had never heard Said It All or Wooden Boat before and I was really impressed. Wooden Boat actually brought a tear to my eye - guess I’m getting a little sentimental in my old age!
In the 90s, I was listening to Nirvana, Blur and Oasis and took great pride in hating on this “silly boy band” in public, but behind closed doors, I actually enjoyed some of their music. Since their 2006 comeback, I have grown up (for the most part) and now like/love a lot of their music. And lastly, it has to be said that Gary Barlow is a very talented and highly underrated songwriter. I really enjoyed this one, I was going to say it was a guilty pleasure but in reality it was a real pleasure!

Some great info on the lads there, but while it’s true that Gary was the songwriter and sang the majority of songs back in the 90s, since reforming, the lads all contribute equally to the writing. I’m glad you love Wooden Boat; it’s a gorgeous song, and as a Jason fan, a hugely proud moment. He never had the confidence to sing a lead before that, doubting himself and his role in the band… ‘just’ a dancer, when he was far more than that.
With regards to breaking the US after Back For Good, in Howard’s words in a fairly recent interview “we just couldn’t be bothered”…! He was only half joking!
Take That mania was crazy in the 90s, proper hysteria wherever they went. There are still walls outside their childhood homes in and around Manchester (where the mostly all came from) that have fans writing all over them from back then! How the lads and their parents dealt with their houses literally being surrounded by fans all the time, I’ll never know! It’s a great fan base to be part of though, and very loyal to the lads so there was never any doubt that they’d be supported when they reformed. The teenage fans in the 90s are now women with partners and kids, they had a big gay fan base too, and even the young men who claimed to hate them back in the day will now admit to liking them. Take That are known for their huge live productions, and at any concert you’ll see an audience ranging from 6 to 86, men and women, all backgrounds; it’s a fantastic thing to be part of.
Would struggle to pick a top 10, but The Garden and Said It All would definitely be up there… if you liked the album versions, check out the live versions from The Circus tour; they are incredible, proper goosebumps.

@@ReactionsToTheClassics @ReactionsToTheClassics You're welcome! Been a fan from day one, so have experienced pretty much all there has been to experience with them so far... Including the hotline when they split up in the 90s!
Trying to narrow down song recommendations; Nobody Else from back in the day, beautiful song. Hold Up A Light, These Days, I Like It, Love Love, Kidz, Butterfly, Windows (from their most recent album); they've such a huge catalogue, I could go on and on. I would say if you have the time, to watch all of The Circus Live (best tour ever), and both the Kidz music video and Live version from Progress Live... Both amazing. Also, have a look at some of Gary & Marks solo work. Gary's style is most like Take That, and he's had some beautiful songs including Forever Love off his Open Road album (1997), and Dying Inside (written about the death of his dad) off Since I Saw You Last (2013). In fact, that whole album is great. One of the most joyful songs on there is Let Me Go, really catchy and uplifting, but also written in memory and celebration of his little girl, Poppy, who was stillborn in 2012.

It seems that Jason had a lot of confidence onstage in the 90s but became more self-conscious when he was older. His main issue with singing was probably that his voice doesn't have a lot of power, as you can hear when he's speaking, so he didn't feel that he could rely on it. But he had the courage to step forward with a couple of solos. And then he decided that he didn't want to be in the public eye at all - which I truly understand.

"Beautiful World" live from the tour of the same name is one of my favorites. (Most of their songs sound better in live performance, IMO.) I also like the underappreciated "Beautiful Morning," a B-side. As for Barlow solos: I love "6th Avenue." And there's a live performance of "Lie to Me" that's very popular.

Seems like a really genuinely good guy, not perfect because none of us are, but fought his demons and came out of it on the other side. I had one of his CD's back in the day and spun it to death in like 2001 but then he never really had another US release. I do plan on going through his discography.
