Hi Nathan, enjoy Ireland… it’s a great place. I picked up a 450 last weekend and just had it serviced at 402 miles, mine got smoother with the miles so I expect yours will too. I’ve also ordered a touring screen as the standard one doesn’t do a thing. I’m off to Wales this week and looking forward to it very much.

Hi Nathan , As a owner of the 411 and your latest post at 1200 miles in Ireland , yes I am 60 and 5'6" been riding for 44 yrs and I can Honestly say what a brilliant truthful review you have done after 1200 miles. I was there on your video at Motorcycle cycle live in November, apologies for not speaking to you I was unaware as the bike was the focal point. Safe Trip back you probably have saved me Money 🤔

More interesting thoughts Nathan. As you say maybe a "650 Super Himalayan" would have answered the adventure touring riders needs, and a lightweight 350 almost a "RE 350 mountain goat" for back roads and trails riding, which I don't think there is much in that market sector without paying big money. I can see the 411 Himalayan is probably going to become classic in time with a strong following. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts after touring Ireland on the 452.

    I only have 1 bike now , but i've had 10 or 11 over time. I'm a shorty, and 54yo! !
I love the Himi 411 scram. I use it mainly offroad, dirt roads and forest riding in Victoria Australia.
Day trips. But Only 250 -300km at a time.
I put some shinko 50/50 knobby tyres on it. And now Its the most fun and versatile bike i have owned.
The Himilayan 450 probably is better for some folk. As will be a CF Moto 450 as are the various other BMW GS bikes and so on... Upshot ... there is a bike out there for everyone.
    Find it... Ride it...

I'm very excited to see how you get on with it. I've been eyeing up a himalayan for a long time, current bike is a 20bhp Honda FTR223 and I'm keen to step up to something that is a little more suited to proper road riding and still trail capable. I can see why people don't see a reason to step up to the 450 from the 411, but for people like myself who don't own a 411, the 450 with a bit more oomph and precision, it is a tempting prospect. Or when 411s hit the £2k mark, they may be even more value for money than they already are!

Nathan if you try riding off road on ECO mode you will find the torque curve is actually pretty similar to the 411. That way the rider can grow into the bike. 😀👍

BRAVO for the three part and best review concerning the 450 ever ( Not surprising coming from you). In fact I had been waiting for it.
I am always amazed to see how you dare to try out new machines in conditions most buyers will never meet.
The 411 was and will always be the one of a kind and personally I will stick to mine.
The new one has plenty to offer but has many competitors around.
Hope you get hold of the 450 CF Moto pretty soon.
Concerning the weight, I am still surprised that an old and very capable machine as my BMW R80 GS (1993 / 800cc twin and shaft driven bike) can be so light and nimble compared to modern production machines. Maybe someone could explain.
Anyway thanks again and keep up the good work.

So if the 450 is only comfortable at say 70mph or less, how would you compare it to the Voge 300 Rally that will cruise at 60mph and cost £4000. It's much lighter and capable on the trails.
Looking forward to the Ireland trip content.
    Cheers Nathan.

Very few, (a minority of riders) take bikes off-road.
I hope they do a lighter weight, road only bike with it.
With tubeless alloys, proper road biassed tyres, a bigger fuel tank, higher cruising gearing and adjustable decent screen.
    I'd love one.👍

I think RE have got it spot on with the 452. A 650 twin would weigh too much and produce only another 8HP over the 452. Having spent 3 hours on the new 452 l really can't fault it and that's coming from a 650 single producing 52HP weighing 350 lbs.

I had a test ride today, shocked how good this bike is! I'm 6ft with long legs, I put the seat in the high setting and found it really comfortable, sitting and standing. Great steering lock, excellent engine pulls all the way to the redline and sat at 80 in comfort with more to come. Great gearbox/clutch. The 411 was just too slow, this bike I may even buy.....but the looks imo let it down...

In my experience is reduced the aggressiveness and give power delivery that suits old Himalayan this I found by accident because I forget to fuel up and have to drive in Eco mode but my experience is in road section not on off road section you can try the Eco mode on off road and give your thoughts

I got shot of my 60hp 650 just because if its there, im gonna use it, which led to some hairy moments and i dont bounce like i did 40 years ago. More fun to ring the neck out of 20hp. Its still enough to get you anywhere, just at a different pace. Everyones temperment is different, and it does change.

My partner and I have a 411 each, which we use to tour on back roads and do some gentle trail riding. I have other bikes including a 650 V-Strom, which I use for longer solo trips. I test rode the 450 Himalayan the other day and thought it may be the answer for my partner, as it would be more capable on the longer road trips. No doubt it is a good bike, the 411 is a B road machine the 450 is an A road machine, and would be fine on a motorway. I then got back on my 411, which as you eluded to, promotes an entirely different riding style. Not rushing to buy a 450 just yet.

Thanks for the video , i had the 411 , and went down in Africa on it , what I noticed was , it didn't do well in the heat when getting stuck in sand it overheated, it didn't do well crossing the mountain between France and Spain, it eat alot of oil do to the strucle, it burned the fuel pump duo to heat , but other than that , great bike.. so i sold it but mis it , and now i am waiting for the white tubless 450, so i can try again in Africa, .. the reason for why i want the 450 , is pretty simple, its water cooled, have more hp to handle my weight up the mountains with alot packed on it , ... But yeah the 411 is a great bike, i hope I will feel the same with the 450 , only time will tell

The point about the 650 Himalayan is interesting, I think I'd rather Enfield upped the displacement by more when reaching for the 40bhp. The new Himalayan has the same power output as a KLR650 from a smaller engine, and one that's made in India rather than Japan...I'm not sure that's a good thing! I really wish Enfield had basically made their version of a KLR650 for the global market tbh, what we have instead is the biggest, heaviest 450cc bike possible with a pretty stressed engine and some fancy electronics...did people want that?

A friend purchased a RE Classic 350 - I rode it home from the dealership and fell in love with it. I told my friend if his new bike was a Trial version I would have had to ride my new bike home. He also has a 411 Himalayan that I have ridden many times. I like the 411 but not enough to sell my 2018 Honda CRF250 Rally. What I want and I have told our RE dealership is if they ever release a new RE 350 Trials version or Scrambler then I will own my first Royal Enfield. I would almost even sell my Honda CT125 Trail is to get it.

I think you have to look at this as RE developing a bike that they can sell thousands of….. just maybe not here. This is going to sell well everywhere that has proper unpaved roads. Aus, NZ, Asian, north and South America. It has suspension and an engine that will pull 100kph on gravely roads all day without being a 1000cc monster.
We are a micro market of different needs to the majority of the rest of the world and that’s why we won’t get our unicorn bike- we are a niche of a niche of a niche.

I think if RE remodeled the tank to make the weight lower, they could be onto a winner. On paper it is the same weight as the 411. The old himi was a bike that you could upgrade to get over the shortcomings. Also Nathan, quick question, which way do the handlebars turn for the steering lock? this may answer the low sidestand question...

Absolutely fascinating video mate so balanced and real world compared to some of the other videos I’ve watched on them, just finished the series so far, I really agree on the 411 I think it’s a bike they should have developed further it’s a shame they lost the long stroke on the new bike I loved that aspect of mine even though it had issues, an love riding my 1927 long stroke Norton, have a brilliant Trip Nathan :)
I do agree they should have got a 650 twin out as the T7 is ticking so many boxes for us since we’ve had it just so capable an easy. (A leave the crashbars off super manageable with the rally seat for my 32” inseam) a the engine and chassis are a peach.

@@peakrider4886 hi mate yep I ended up rejecting mine under the consumer goods act, for a full refund, was a euro 5 from new it had, twisted forks, seized swing arm, failed brake light switches x2 one nearly lead to me getting rear ended, then they couldn’t get any more at the time, that was the biggest problem when I had mine parts availability, headlight was pretty rubbish to, a friend of mine has been waiting for parts under warranty for 12 months for his meteor, I was never convinced the chassis was right on it so the dealer took it back a lot of issues were caused on mine via a bad pdi
I covered it a bit on my adv channel adaptableadventurerider, relays are worth replacing right away, also had issues with 2x 390ktms that dad an I had with the displays going pop, one had a fly by wire fault, an both had different levels of vibration, I think all bikes nowadays have sort of fault, the t7 we have with the exhaust hanger weakness etc. the 300 rally’s rubbish suspension.
For me I’ve loved the T7 loved my 1150gsa like mad but she’s gotta go as we downsize our house due to my dad’s cancer. An the t7 has been the perfect fit from reliability, long 25k valve intervals good handling and simplicity with a fun engine for the mix of riding I do an my dad will be doing perfect bike in many ways.
On the Himmy there’s the advantage of Hitchcocks for parts of it’s not under warranty, that was the madness I could get the parts that would have took re months. Also being able to self service them easily with the screw an locknuts, hitchcocks sell an upgraded brake light switch for the front as well. Really it should be a recall but no one but me was really mentioning it, the plunger jams on the rubber boot and leaves you with no front brake light switch
Just about finding the right compromise for you I think :) an then obviously all comes down to budget as Nathan says there’s not a lot in the budget range of the Himmys now for the 411 second hand and then I think it really comes down to the mix of riding you are doing.

    • @peakrider4886
      @peakrider4886 14 днів тому +2

@@savingclassicmotorcycles thanks for the honest feedback. I’m thinking that one that’s a Euro 4 with some miles on might mean issues have been dealt with and remedied. Good to know parts are available if it’s not a warranty problem that’s going through RE. I think this bike will suit my riding, slower and more about exploring small B roads, farm tracks, and green lanes. It seems like the perfect exploring bike capable of tacking whatever I come across.

    • @savingclassicmotorcycles
      @savingclassicmotorcycles 14 днів тому +1

@@peakrider4886 no problem at all I was really gutted by the issues I had with mine it was more irritating that I could have sorted them myself, but after the Ktm experience which was horrendous on two new bikes I wanted to let the dealer deal with it, it should be pretty well suited to that sorta riding as Nathan said they are a really relaxed place to be an on national roads long as there’s no inclines they can hustle really nice round some corners, if you get one deal with the brake light switch right away it’s worth browsing hitchcocks an looking at parts availability there’s a genuine new parts section an accessories an there’s cooperb to who corrected some of the work on mine the other dealer has screwed up at pdi. They do a lot of accessories I think if you go into it knowing there might be issues they are not a Japanese bike then there’s no suprises a the screw N locknut are really easy for clearances. So it’s suited to home servicing unlike the Ktm which was a computer job with some of the faults, Nathan’s experience days are a terrific idea I think well worth it. Can see what stirs the soul.
The seat concept seat was good on the himmy n just check your knees fit the infills as well.
