      Yes this is why I went there because I use to ride my bicycle there when I was 10 years old. I have visited the Civil War and War of Independence battle sites in the East Coast. Been a history buff specially my family has serve in WW2 there in PI as well as all the battles the USA has been from Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia to Desert Storm.

    This fellow really knows his stuff. I used to mess with corvairs and they designed in a quench area, but at the end of the day, GM did not pay for the careful machining to make quench area effective. By milling a recess for the copper head gaskets, you could actually raise compression ratio, raise horsepower, and decrease detonation.

      Also the better mixing of air fuel was being used in air cooled suzuki engines, they called it twin swirl combustion chamber, the squish mixing the charge better

    Great video. Another topic I often wondered about reducing parasitic loss. Th350 vs th400. 8.8 vs 9 inch. Regular water pump vs electric. Wheel weight etc. I bet you would have some great tips.

      I like the TH350 built will stay together behind a powerful small block ford or chevy! I do not waste my time with a ford trans of any type! 8.8 seems to be a little quicker because it has less drag to turn it compared to a 9 inch ford which i feel is overkill.

    There's a reason why every new car has 5/6/7/8 speed transmissions. Powerglides belong in some drag race applications and stock restorations. Everything else needs 3 or more gear ratios. Completely agree that every engine needs a stroker crank.

    Point number 1) Toss as much money you saved up in your personal junk drawer at it but don't tell your wife how much you have in it. Always tell her half of exactly how much is there.
    Point number 2) When you have run out of saved money try and sell gear head shit in the garage you may not need anymore constantly thinking of what can be sold without missing it.
    Point number 3) Dip into your paycheck to pay off the credit card bill and try to convince the wife it will be paid off pretty soon by using Point number 2.
    Point number 4) I'm ordering it cause I need it and I'll tell her I'll take care of it using the next 8 paychecks cause I just don't give a crap what she thinks anymore I'm going to get it anyways!
    These are largest most difficult points of engine building in my opinion.

    • @richdouche8253

      I've never seen this as part of a calculation for compression when building an engine, so my guess is, zero.

    • @benalamedaracing2765
      @benalamedaracing2765  2 місяці тому

      The steel armor does not really expand or take up space when torque down. However, most manufacturers will post the CC's of their gaskets on their catalogs or sometimes printed on the box it came with.

    Thankyou for sharing your wisdom Ben.
    I am slowly putting together the specifications for my 385 series BBF i'm about to build.
    I have the block at. 030" and was considering the Kaase P-51 heads, (maybe SR-71), but appear only in a 70 or 72cc chamber.
    Do i have to try thinner gaskets and domed pistons to get my comp ratio up?
    Looking at a 502cui stroker with 12:1 comp on pump 98 octane.

    • @benalamedaracing2765
      @benalamedaracing2765  3 місяці тому +1

      Whatever Kaase recommends that is the correct cylinder heads. Do not olace a too thin head gasket because the chambers are really good with his cylinder heads! Just zero deck and 12 compression is attainable with a flat top or maybe even a slight dish in the middle.

    Thinner oils today... for street, I am leaning towards something more of a marine style not seen on small engines: a prelube pump. Requires pan modification for the pickup and a check valve to prevent backflow [wherever it ports into the block], but purging galleys for 20-30 seconds before firing after sitting overnight or longer may yield good long term benefits. 5w doesn't worry me too much but these 0w oils do - scuffing mains seems to be happening too often - clearances need germanic precision or there will be trouble. The present obsession with anti sludging detergents [calcium dosing etc] by formulators has yielded a new problem: that old school sludge tendency [often aggravated by colder thermostats] is still better than losing film thickness and experiencing startup damage. Racers/drifters with an accumulator? Electric solenoid to dump captured volume to the block before crank could serve the same purpose.

    • @jcnpresser
      @jcnpresser 5 місяців тому

      With today’s engine management controllers, Holley, aem, haltech, etc, an electric solenoid to open an oil accumulator would be really good insurance on an expensive engine, and could easily be opened by the computer with safeties setup in the software. I like it!

  • @jcnpresser
    @jcnpresser 5 місяців тому +3

    I think the oil weight is pretty much determined by the way the engine is built as well, what you’re doing with it. Tight clearances can use light weight oils. Big hp, loose engine need the higher weight. Plus are just driving to work with mostly or are you going wot everywhere you go! My pretty much stock 5.0 I run the 5w30 Motorcraft in the colder climates, I work at a ford dealer so it is available, and seems to work well from what I’ve seen. then in summer I run 15w50 Mobil one cause it’s easy to find.
