You know for someone who wears SLACKS, a sweater over a collared shirt, and a tweed jacket into the woods... Ben's doing pretty darn good at this survival thing.
I work as a chef and we have plenty of sayings like that :) "It's not burnt, it's caramelized", "When it's burnt/black it's ready", "It's not burnt, it's got character", "Black is a colour too", "Burnt is a flavour too" etc.
This is my new favourite series! Please let it be a thing where you have to cook in weird scenarios like on a boat with fishmongers (yay seasickness!) or at high altitude with hikers please please please.
To whomever asked the question, (sorry I lost your name) Yes, I am in fact Mikes dad. My wife's idea to give us the same name. Dead proud (but dont tell him)
Are you ready, kids? I said, are you ready? Who wears a blazer in the woods? Funspongesquarescout! Who brings all the spices for the baked goods? Funspongesquarescout If sting nettle tea be something you love Funspongesquarescout! Don't worry he'll pick some with his glove Funspongesquarescout! Funspongesquarescout! Funspongesquarescout! Funspongesquarescout!Funspongesquarescout!
I have just started to watch this channel, and it's fun. And James is my favourite, he's like a big fluffy pupper, too sweet. Love how he kinda pushed ben when everyone was doing so, but so gently😂💗
I’m a New Zealand native (Maori) And you guys technically made our traditional food called ‘Hangi’, pronounced ’HUHngEE’ A hole is dug in the ground, stones are heated and we create an oven in the Earth, place a load of meat and veg in There then cover it all with damp sacks and more hot stones and let it cook for some time. It has a distinct Smokey flavour and It’s a real labour of love, especially for our men. Well done!!!! =D
Enjoyed immensely, probably cos after a pathetically lacklustre first episode, my boy came first ! Mind you if there were a prize for moaning, he'd probably win that too! His mother would say he gets it from his father!
I cooked dinner like that in the Boy Scouts. We buried it in the morning, went hiking all day and when we came back to camp twelve hours later it was all done.
Excellent episode! Mike was hilarious throughout...finally getting his vindication through handshake! Barry his face at 8:40 had me laughing hard! Ben and James impressive as always!
As soon as Barry said he never knew bread could be cooked over a fire I thought of the Aussie bush staple “Damper”!! Yummm- with a bit of butter and golden syrup!🥰🥰
This whole thing reminds me of the Maori way of cooking named hangi - where we also dig a hole in the ground and cook meat, vegetables and stuffing in foil parcels. Loved it boys!
You guys will love this. I was re watching How to make a wedding cake video from Barry's wedding and I couldn't help but laugh at 7 in the morning when I came across a scene from 5:59 to 6:01.
Holy cow(literally), that must have been amazing. Combined with the scenery, I think this looks like a perfect camping trip ignoring Ben's Professor look.
Why do the British survivalists sound nice and fun while the survivalists in America always sounds like you’ve done something wrong and that they’ve seen things! Haha
Because generally speaking, in Britain the biggest risk to you is eating the wrong kind of plant, whereas in America there’s all sorts of dangerous things in their natural environment
@@wolfvale7863 as a British person basically yep. Unless you're up in the Highlands in Scotland you'll never be far from a road or help and even there we have air ambulances or and it's at very most probably a couple hours walk to someone's house. My uncles ex broke her leg hiking last year and the air ambulance only took like 20 minutes to come according to my cousin.
Why Berry didn't use his aesthetic wrist bandana to cover his hand while picking the nettles, or, for that matter, why no one covered their hands with clothing while collecting nettles will always remain a mystery to me.
Right, so... I love the vids on SortedFood, and I love the humor, but since cleaning up also is part of cooking, and I'm getting a induction plate soon, could you make an item please about what the best tips are to keep your kitchen clean? How to keep the glass plate clean and the oven, and things like that. Thank you.
I agree with Barry, this is a way to bake bread that I wouldn't have thought of, but it turns out to be really good. Technique is Key. Fucking enjoying the series!
It's actually quite easy to bake bread over a fire if you have a dutch oven. Not much different from a regular oven, you just have to figure out how much coals on top and bottom to create the right amount of heat. I bake regular sourdough bread every time I go on a camping trip because there's nothing like fresh bread, maybe with some stew or something when you're out in the woods or the desert. Takes a bit of practice but it's not complicated.
Mike’s face when he got his handshakes was like the proudest moment of his life
I may or may not have done the Breakfast Club freeze frame when that happened, lol
James subtly pushing Ben into the nettle bushes XD
I think we're all rooting for Mike. Lol
That moment at 3:29 when in an effort to seem cool James pushes Ben but only lightly because he is a puppy.
CRYING
That describes me far too well
I think he was being careful knowing it'll hurt.
Rewatching in 2020 and I'm very sure this is exactly what happened 🤣
I sincerely had missed that omg LOL 😭 Also, glad to see other people being reminded of a cute puppy seeing James be James 😂
Mike's ground level of bitterness and annoyance is me at uni
Nina Marie same
I swear to god 😂
haha, yeah "I hate the jungle".... what jungle lol
I lost my mind at the coffee break rant
Ben looks like he just came off the set of the Kingsmen lmao
I'd take Mike Huttlestone over Channing Tatum any day.
Ditto
Same here, darling.
I like it when Mike is backstabbing Ben when Ben suggested that they should make stinging nettle tea instead of coffee. Hilarious 😂😂😂
You know for someone who wears SLACKS, a sweater over a collared shirt, and a tweed jacket into the woods... Ben's doing pretty darn good at this survival thing.
Actually proper camping/walking pants zip off at the knee to become shorts. That's what Ebbers is wearing. Hi Tazzie1312
F7,,ä,@@heartshapedisleMmllpööt
Died when Baz yelled " THAT COULDA BEEN DANGEROUS!"
Kevin Smith Is it just me or does Barry remind anyone else of Hagrid ???? 😂❤
*"It's not burnt, it's caramelized"* that is definitely my new line

I've heard that from Gorden Ramsey as a guest in James Corden's show. Laughed my ass off.
This is my new favourite series! Please let it be a thing where you have to cook in weird scenarios like on a boat with fishmongers (yay seasickness!) or at high altitude with hikers please please please.
Ben being prepared for everything and making his friends suffer while he gets an easy way out is something I relate to so much.
To whomever asked the question, (sorry I lost your name) Yes, I am in fact Mikes dad. My wife's idea to give us the same name. Dead proud (but dont tell him)
So Mike is actually Mike Jr. huh? Interesting

Pure genius! You, Madame, have won the internet.
mike patting james at 4:25 made me let out a legit audible aww
Ben coming prepared with gloves HAHAHA love it!.. Also, Mike, Channing Tatum only wishes he were as cute and charming as you are :D
8:41 Superb focus on Barry sneaking a glance to see if he would get a handshake!
"That COULD HAVE BEEN dangerous!" - Barry
Haha well done Mike!! :D
I have just started to watch this channel, and it's fun. And James is my favourite, he's like a big fluffy pupper, too sweet. Love how he kinda pushed ben when everyone was doing so, but so gently😂💗
The way Barry looked at him when he said "that woulda been good actually" killed me 😂

Yes me too Marie Eden! Well done, Ceeson Ward!
Ikr? All it needed was mums steamed pudding and custard and its a party!
Omg yes steamed pudding and custard or cream!!! Amazing!
I guess it's an island way of cooking. Fijians cook the same way and it's called "lovo". en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fijian_food. Love it n miss it.
So... you picked the nettles with your bare hands, but as it turns out, you did bring gloves (to handle the hot stuff). A+ for using your resources ;P
Enjoyed immensely, probably cos after a pathetically lacklustre first episode, my boy came first ! Mind you if there were a prize for moaning, he'd probably win that too! His mother would say he gets it from his father!
Michael Huttlestone Are you actually Mike's dad? That's awesome!
Oh man. I am unhealthily excited for Part 3!
Gordon Ramsay:
"If it's brown it's cooked, if it's black it's f**ked"
Michael Huttlestone:
"No chef, its caramelized"
Ebbers you beautiful try hard 😂
The bush expert is like a cross between Gordon Ramsay and Bear Grylls

Why is Barry's hair always so good
Barry calling anyone a hipster with the flannel, wrist sash thing, and all the rings is hilarious
When the boys are tussling about the stinging nettle= cuteness overload!
I would like to see a competition of people who regularly cook over the fire and see who has the best food.
This series is the best thing you guys have uploaded ever
Thank you, James, for giving us the most perfect view at 3:23
These have been my favorite episodes so far!
I *hate* the jungle
-Barry 2017
Actually- Mike 2017!
LOL oops they sounded so similar :)
It's the accent I swear
I was gonna say- that was definitely mike lol
I think David is a.....
*SUPER GEEK. HE’S A SUPER GEEK. HE’S SUPER GEEKY*
y'all should remain there forever, this is the best!
"This is the veggiest veg."
- Benjamin Ebberell, Professional Chef.
As soon as Barry said he never knew bread could be cooked over a fire I thought of the Aussie bush staple “Damper”!! Yummm- with a bit of butter and golden syrup!🥰🥰
The way that you cooked the meat and vegetables is exactly how you do a hangi!
4:24 mike literally petting James's hair for doing a good job at the bread proofing
love this series - wish it was more than three parts!
OMG guys, this series is incredible!
*FUNSPONGESQUARESCOUT*
Mike clean shaven is all I really need😍
Siya Bora that's what was different with him, couldn't out my finger on it until I read your comment
Mike bitterly saying he hates the jungle xD It's not a jungle Mike, it's just the woods
This whole thing reminds me of the Maori way of cooking named hangi - where we also dig a hole in the ground and cook meat, vegetables and stuffing in foil parcels. Loved it boys!
These new week series are awesome! It's cool learning new things with you guys :)
"I brushed the whole load of its stupid little stinging neighbors!"
That pure frustration and salt xD
This is all part of bens master plan as a scout to defeat mike
Poor mike
Lol you guys were just 4 flavors of adorkableness.
Looked fun and was interesting to learn about.
You guys will love this. I was re watching How to make a wedding cake video from Barry's wedding and I couldn't help but laugh at 7 in the morning when I came across a scene from 5:59 to 6:01.
Awe hahahah Mike was so pumped at 2:40 for coffee, but that excitement was killed so quickly for some tea. LOL poor guy
Hahahahah O. M. G. Barry's side-eye at 8:40 just cracks me up aye😂😂
"Fun sponge square scout" 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Brilliant!
4:25 was when my heart melted
Baz: do rocks burn? The look on Mike's face was hilarious ,I fell off my chair laughing so hard I was crying.
😂😂
they could pick the leaves with literally anything like other leaves
I was waiting for one of them to figure out you can find a couple of sticks and use them like chopsticks
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE YESTERDAY OMG!!!! 💖
Omg how fun!! An the food looks delish! X
Tightest. Pants. Ever. Not that I am complaining....
David Zeager I am
Holy cow(literally), that must have been amazing. Combined with the scenery, I think this looks like a perfect camping trip ignoring Ben's Professor look.
Wohoooo! was waiting for part 2
And part 3 comes on Sunday :)
Nettles are tasty when you cook them like spinach, too! Throw a little garlic, chicken stock, and butter in there. Yum.
Bread hipster 😂
This was excellent amazing content. Please make more of this.

Ben is really rocking that spice holster.
"I hate the jungle" Class!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this series
Well done Mike! I was rooting for you :)
omg i wanna draw ben with his spice vest hahahah
Wow that's awesome timing. I just finished the last part
Spooooooky!
I can't believe I was so excited over that handshake. 😂
There's a PART THREE?! 😍😍😍
I agree with Barry, this is a way to bake bread that I wouldn't have thought of, but it turns out to be really good.

Fucking enjoying the series!
😂🤣 “Fun Sponge Square Scout”
I'm so so happy Mike got 2 handshakes I was feeling bad for him
Is Ben a sadist??? "Oh, let's make stinging nettle tea (so I can watch you all suffer whilst I use my trusty gloves)!"
The nettle picking looked like fun. I wonder if you know how to use dot leaves to help with that?
When they were picking the nettles... what a bunch of tarts :)
As someone who teaches bushcraft basics to 8-14 year olds, this whole thing was hilarious and rather frustrating!
Barry's side eye killed me!
THAT COULD'VE BEEN DANGEROUS!
food looks SO SO SO SOO DAMNN DAMN GOOD. Now I am craving roast
Loved this!
Ben with blazer on: Teacher
Ben with blazer off: Inspector on a crime scene.
lol
Mike in the ‘jungle’ is me in the ‘jungle’.
I just realised that ebbers looked like the guy from kingsmen! especially with his "spice holsters!"
Best thing I've seen today.
Mike does seem to dislike camping quite a bit lol. I dont blame him, camping isn't for everyone, including me 😅
Fun fact! The stem of the nettles is only stingy, the leaves not, so if you use them to grab it, it's not as bad :D

James excelled, as expected. I'm legitimately surprised that Ebbers got 4th, but I'm *not* surprised he wore a blazer. Lol
