The strong silent type? You mean the same kind of people that consider committing suicide? I'm not saying that in any way it's something that either Ben or Liam would consider, but there is a significantly higher likelihood for men to commit suicide because cultural hierarchy tells them they should be depicted as strong and silent. It takes a real man to speak up about their own personal/mental issues.
Jenna Gold it's often the people who you would identify as the 'strong silent type' that end up killing themselves you moron. You should never bottle up how you feel, everyone should be encouraged to talk to one another about problems such as mental illness without having the fear of being judged by idiots like you
Much respect for opening up. It can be rough for everyone and it's sad to say that it's hard to speak up especially when it comes to men with the surrounding stereotype of manliness.
Guys, I'm a twenty year plus veteran triple j listener. I've seen (heard) so many presenters come and go over those years and I never once expected the new to be the same or better than the old. You're all unique and you're all awesome. Keep it up boys.
I've been listening to triple j for over a year now and can honestly say it makes my days better. 5 hours of mid dawns, 3 hours of breakfast, 3 hours of mornings, and 3 hours of lunch. Been listening to you guys since day 1. Being able to open the triple j app and listen to familiar voices everyday Sunday thru Thursday at 3pm makes me feel so much better. I don't have a whole lot of friends but able to get by because of you guys! Keep up the great work and so, so much love from the US.
Those last few moments of the video where they start Gang Of Youths - Magnolia in the background are one of the rare times radio really brings you close to tears. As a religious triple J listener I very much can imagine how happy Liam would have been in the car finding out he was getting the best job in the country and it breaks my heart hearing how all the online bullies have been bringing them down. They definitely had big shoes to fill coming into the role and they are trying their best. I hope that the outcome of this is that people will realise they are just regular guys like us and therefore make us more empathetic towards them, which in turn, will hopefully sway more listeners opinions. I remember listening to Matt and Alex the morning they announced they were leaving and all the texts and callers saying how they felt like they were losing a mate, especially the tradie that called in saying he works alone on a building site and having the two of them on each morning kept him company and how much he was going to miss them. Man that was another tear-jerker! I can guarantee that Ben and Liam will be getting the same calls one day, we just have to give them time. You don't make life long friends overnight, you make them with time, experiencing the ups and downs, the good and the bad. Keep listening, they will grow on you, and become your mates too, in time.
Exactly what i felt when the song started coming in at the end. sat here in the office nearly in tears myself. all of the points in the video ringing true!
I don't usually have time to listen to the morning radio but just by coincidence I tuned in this morning and got to hear Ben and Liam speak out about this. Pretty damn powerful stuff. Don't worry boys, we're all the way behind you. Huge respect.
Brought me to tears this morning at the pain in Liam's voice and the genuine hurt complete strangers have brought him. I wanted to reach through my radio and hug him. These people are cowards who hide behind their electronic devices to do and say anything they like without one thought that their targets are human beings. To even be approached by a group and have hate thrown at you is not only confronting, intimidating and hurtful but it's absolutely disgusting and shows savage pack mentality. Ben and Liam you guys are doing an amazing job and there's more support than you realise. No one is replaceable and that includes you.
When you guys first started, I was disappointed at the loss of Matt and Alex, but it didn't take long for me to realize that you guys aren't them and don't have to be. You guys are doing you and you are rocking it! It was good of you to open up about the hate you guys get, and maybe it will get some of those nuts to realize the hurt they make is, well, bad. Keep being awesome, guys!
Yeah na. You will never be Matt and Alex. And Matt and Alex were never Tom and Alex. And Tom and Alex were never were Anderson and will Andersons mate. Don't try to be like them... try to be the best you can. The head honcho gave you guys the job trust their judgment :)
Honestly the people that constantly comment hate towards these blokes because they aren't up to your standard are the biggest fucking grubs in the world. If you don't like them change stations and move the fuck on. Don't abuse these blokes because they aren't what you want them to be. At the end of the day they are just doing their jobs, no one deserves to be abused the way these blokes have been for simply doing their job.
I understand where you are coming from, and myself living in London have only listened to them a few times so I am not really going to weigh in too much on their performance. But why should the listeners all of a sudden change channels, or stop listening? Triple J is the only station of its kind playing that particular type of music. Aren't the listeners allowed an opinion and a say as to what they believe? Granted, threats and suggestions for people to self harm are completely wrong, that is not even debatable, but moving on to peoples dislike of them, are they of all of a sudden meant to keep quiet all because it might offend someone or upset them? It's free speech just as you get to have your opinion too. They work in the public light and sad to say but criticism is what they must learn to deal with instead of playing the victim as I have seen them do. It seems to me that if they are going to breakdown when ever they get a series of negative opinions, then they are not made for the job.
igor I completely get what you're saying but some of the comments I've seen are absolutely vile since they started. They aren't bad blokes and they are trying to do their jobs to the best standard that they can. Yes, it's ok to give criticism if it is respectful and constructive, but it is far from ok to abuse these guys because they aren't who you want them to be. I get that everyone is entitled to having a say and I don't have a problem with people that do it in a respectful manner. Telling people to change stations probably wasn't the right thing to say, but my whole comment was directed at people who are to put it lightly, cunts, who abuse these guys for what they do.
Yes, i heard the entire clip. However, take away the threats against his life and the suggestions for self harm which I entirely dont agree with either, it is clear that they both have been struggling from the very beginning from when the negative criticism started. I am a firm believed in Milo Yionnopoulos' approach on matters of criticism and that holding back or being worried that you might offend or upset some is simply a way to hinder what a person truly feels and cant therefore express their views entirely. Because at the end of the day, that is the real world and there are a lot of people that would fit in the category of being a 'cunt' and cant express themselves in a better manner. I feel sorry for the lad that he has struggled with the negative attention they have been getting but I must agree, their show isnt as entertaining as what any of the previous hosts were as they dont have the spontaneity and flare that is required and that Triple J has made a mistake on taking these two lads on. It's reality that these lads will get a lot of good reviews, but so with it comes the bad and the ugly criticism and if they will break down every time they read the bad and ugly, then perhaps they are just not up for the role.
Mad respect to you guys for opening up and sharing this. You're putting your own spin on Triple J and not everyone's gonna like it, some people are never gonna be able to accept a change, and that's just them, but there will always be people who can open to change and love you guys as much or more than what came before. Much love, you guys are total legends, keep at it.
You boys are mad cool! I am 16 and have been listening to triple j for most of my life, you guys are doing a fucking wicked job! You guys give me and my mates good laughs before school in the car and I really appreciate that! Keep your head up boys and keep doing what you're doing cause people will realise they actually really enjoy listening to you two.
This is one of the best things I have heard on radio in a long time...I was in tears driving to work. Dude BRAVE AND BEAUTIFUL. .so much love and respect for you now more than ever.
Well done guys. Your strength is incredible, thank you for soldiering on through the abuse, bullying and bullshit. Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for gracing us on the airwaves every morning. Keep it up x
I have so much respect for you guys for speaking up and sharing your experience on such an important day. I cried when I heard this on air yesterday, Liam you are a wonderful person and a fantastic radio presenter, as are you Ben. You both have worked incredibly hard to get to where you're at now and at such a young age, how many people can say they're breakfast presenters at Triple J?! Your friends and family would be bloody proud of you both. Nobody should ever be treated the way you two were treated and people shouldn't compare you two to past presenters. So don't worry boys, I've enjoyed listening to you on JJJ and I (along with plenty of others) think you're both doing an outstanding job. Sending love and support to you both! 💖💖💖
You guys are FLIPPING AMAZEBALLS and I end up with a big smile on my face everytime I catch you guys in the morning! For every nasty message you might get, there are 10 happy listeners out there who love what you're doing but perhaps just haven't had the chance to tell you. Thanks for being so brave!
Your courage to speak out is inspiring.Anxiety and Depression is a continual battle. When people start to seeing it as a 'real illness' and I for one know.Dont let the haters get you down as your better than them and you have the platform to start the conversation.I couldn't not more prouder that you've spoken out about these things and I am a proud Adelaidian.Just remember your never alone and stay strong!💪💪💪#Justbeyou #Hatersaregoingtohate
Hey guys just wanted to say thank you for sharing. Everyone has their good and bad times, its what make us who we are. Don't let anyone get you down, its not worth it. Good luck boys, thanks for being who you are.
Love you guys . Keep up the great work . I've never cried with laughter before until this charge ups phenomenon started 😂 thank you for making every morning better than just another shitty day at work .
Thank you for sharing this morning. I was in the car on my way to school (teacher) and this brought me to tears. It reminded me to start the conversation with my class today about hurtful words and asking each other 'R u okay?'
Underneath everyone who's out there saying you guys aren't good are 50 people who tune in every day loving everything you do. So keep it up you guys, and much respect for opening up like that. You guys are killing it
Give it 12 months Liam and those lads that cornered you in the street will be asking for your autograph. Humans are the gnarliest creatures, often judging the tip of the iceberg without understanding the 90% of that giant structure that lives below the water that got you two to where you are... Invisible to most of us, but don't forget there's still a bunch of us that can see what you've achieved. Keep working hard boys. Love what you do. Keep it real! Thanks for sharing
I remember seeing some of the hate on your facebook page.. I tagged my boyfriend and said "wtf" and he replied "they arnt that bad". I think back to think i could do more, you are both lovely human beings that dont deserve such hate. I saw it as one post, but one is too many. Thanks for reminding us all of that, You rock boys!
I've been overseas for a long time and didn't know matt and Alex. Tuned to jjj when I got back and crack up every morning on the way to work. Perfect non slapstick humour. I leave earlier and take the long route to listen more. I have nothing to compare you to do can honestly say you guys are funny as all shit. Keep up the good work and stay!
"Mangolia. Magnolia mate" haha you guys make me laugh every morning on the way to work and this is why I love listening to you. It would've been hard taking on that new presenter role for triple j and it must've been difficult having a lot of expectation on yourselves and even from others around Australia you have never met before. You're really brought your own uniqueness to the breakfast show and we are loving it. Keep up the good work. !
Oh guys that was intense for me to watch my heart goes out to you. I'm a long time listener & you guys are great. Don't listen to the haters Haters are gunna hate But you guys are doing great You always make me laugh! Don't stop doing what you do! Peace & love
always enjoyed your show boys. People who are closed minded fear change, theres nothing you need to worry about. Be proud guys you put on a great show!
I don't enjoy listening quite as much as I did with the previous guys (I admit they're slowly growing on me, just need more time to find their groove I reckon). But holy shit these guys do NOT deserve the horrendous treatment they've received since taking over. I'd never have the guts to get on radio every morning let alone speak on radio as candidly as they did this morning. Major respect.
When Matt joined after Tom left, there was definitely a little heat. However, Matt and Alex came to represent such a great time for many people over those years they were presenting, they were synonymous with some great albums, top festival lineups and some sweaty tune rags. In time, you boys will be the face of the next generation of Indie Music lovers...and Trip trip tripleeeeeee J!!
When you guys started I obviously wasn't as much a fan as when Matt and Alex were on, but I've grown to like you guys and hearing this is just absolutely horrible. I'm sorry Yous have had to endure this kind of garbage. Chin up fellas

when RUOK Day roles around it’s actually socially unacceptable to answer the question honestly. You aren’t actually meant to start up a conversation about your mental health, because whoever casually through out that question wasn’t expecting you to honestly answer. The problem with this day lies entirely in the moment that comes after the question. What happens after you get the response? And, honestly we aren’t meant to know - thats what psychologists and doctors are for, not Suzie from accounting. There is an awful insincerity that has hijacked RUOK Day by office party planning committees and school assemblies. We are at a point where the concept of suicidal thoughts and mental health are treated seriously enough, and ultimately makes people having these thoughts feel much worse. Only the bravest of guys can open up like you did mate. Much love xxx
Jenna Gold if u want to b a hero then go ahead. It's hard to open up like that an express yourself. If u don't like it don't open your mouth.

always enjoyed your show boys. People who are closed minded fear change, theres nothing you need to worry about. Be proud guys you put on a great show!
Lets not bully close minded people ok. They have feelings just like these brave boys. Close minded people need our love and support too.
This is so beautiful and it's definitely an important message to share. I think you guys are great so keep doing your own thing a ignore the haters!

i respect you guys so much, good on you! it must be hard but keep in there love u guys xox
Great video. Cant wait for some Gang of Youths tomorrow too!
words have power. it's cliche, but if you have nothing nice to say just don't say it. well done lads
When you guys started I obviously wasn't as much a fan as when Matt and Alex were on, but I've grown to like you guys and hearing this is just absolutely horrible. I'm sorry Yous have had to endure this kind of garbage. Chin up fellas
I would kill to play playstation witht these lads. You guys are doing such a good job keep up the good work fellas
I love Ben and Liam 💓💓💓
Bloody legends guys!
The changing of the guard has happened more than once on triple j. It is sad when people you have become attached to move on and you have to build a new relationship with their replacements while longing for their predecessors. Some of the stuff I have seen directed to Ben and Liam has been nothing short of vile. I don't know whether Matt experienced similar when he replaced Tom. I miss Alex a lot, but mainly seeing his ridiculous dance moves on Zan's Instagram each Friday. Ben and Liam are so different but refreshing and are doing great. I hate that people have impacted them so much.
fucking love you guys!!! keep up the good work!
Chin up boys, Don't ever try fill someones shoes because of expectation, Be yourselves and people will come around. I did. Keep up the great work.
keep up the good work boys, i love yous
major respect
Chin up boys, you're doing great
I love you guys ❤️❤️❤️
Matt & Alex, you two are doing so well!! I love your stuff :)
I've had no issue listening to you lads, you're finding your style and the haters are just a vocal minority. Like Dory says, just keep swimming
Just make a longer podcast boys .. we be good !!
You're Ben & Liam., not Matt & Alex so don't worry about people bagging you for not being them. Do what you're doing and be yourselves.
much respect for talking about this hurts you but maybe if your getting this much hate and its clear your not succeeding to find a new dream
living the dream can be a nightmare
❤️❤️❤️
Who are matt and Alex, we love ben and Liam not the others all the best with nova a long way since fresh hay?

R U OK?
Funny thing is we give anything to have these guys back... Gone downhill big time ever since they left
Pretty sure i have a crush on Liam!
What kind of pathetic weasel makes such awesome guys feel like such shit purely because they were hired to do their job?! WTAF!?
when RUOK Day roles around it’s actually socially unacceptable to answer the question honestly.
