I’m a 39 yo man and I had a total mastectomy (both breasts removed) and 17 auxiliary lymph nodes removed in my left armpit. I had my surgery on April 22nd, 2022. It’s now May 9th. I finally had all my staples and tubes removed. So now it’s time to get my arms moving again. I have to get them ready in time for my May 20th radiology appointment, where they want me to be able to raise my arms above my head while laying down. Right now it seems impossible. It hurts so much to raise my elbows above my shoulder level. But I got approval to do exercises by my surgeon so here I am. Respect to everyone who has more movement than I do at this point!
13 days post single mastectomy and these exercises are just right for the amount of discomfort I am in. Just wish you had spaced each exercise out a bit so the required number of repetitions could be fit in between each exercise. Thank you for posting these.
I just had double mastectomy. Although the Physio therapist did taught a few similar exercises prior discharged from hospital , this video provide good recap and ensure the correct postures .
Hey Kelly, thank you so much for these videos, I find them really helpful!! I'm just wondering if you would recommend skipping any of the stretches / exercises in your videos for patients recovering from mastectomy with immediate reconstruction? Thanks so much & kind regards from Germany!
Thank you for this clear and helpful video. I had DMX in April and just did swap to implants august 15. I have a lot of tightness in one side so I’m looking for exercises. What do you recommend regarding the core during bent-over rows?
4:18 Wall walks: NO! I'm 12 days post-op and these are a no-go right now. Do not lift arms above 90° within the first 4 weeks post-op. I can barely go 60° right now. Do not lift arms above 90°, This is pretty much universal doctor orders across the board for everyone who has ever had this surgery. You will definitely feel the pain & your range-of-motion stopping point and you will know better not to do this.
@@AngelinaThumbelina8 avoiding lifting above 90 degrees is a restriction held for drains still in and certain types of surgery/reconstruction. It’s not universal for everyone to wait 4 weeks to do that and some can do this movement within 1-2 weeks, while others may not be ready. everyone should ask their surgeon for Clearance for them when they can. Then combine how they feel to modify
I’m 23 days since my surgery, started slowly 4 days ago, lightly at first. It’s advised by my Dr. Of course you must always use your brain 1st. Leilani🌺🎾
I had removal and reconstruction from belly tissue last Fri. It is so hard to stand up straight as the belly is pulling. Do u have exercises for the back that helps the belly loosen? Thank you so much!
When can you do wall walk exercise? The day after the surgery or as long as the drainage be removed? I am having double mastectomy and reconstruction next Tuesday. Thanks for your video
5:44 No! You may be a physical therapist but have you even experienced this surgery? I think not. Your arm position on the backrest of that sofa is impossible for post-mastectomy patients. We cannot lift our arms that way and we cannot bear weight on our arms.
Hey Kellycan you answer me something? I would really appreciate if you could help?Wwhat about natural pain killer for lymphoedema? What can I take besides OTC meds? I tried Ibuprofen and swelling got worse, but pain was relieved.
