My, my, my, Teach Dem, you’re getting better and better with these interviews. Ernie Smith is one of our legendary artist. This is another epic interview. Conducting these interviews makes you one of the most patriotic Jamaican I ever come across. Give thanks for the great work. Mi aggo deh deh pan time
About 3 weeks ago I research this man I use to watch him and his 2 sisters singing on tv when I was younger ❤
@@joanhenderson4295 I used to watch him in the 70’s, he’s an icon, a legend.
Great interview Teach Dem. Legendary Artist
I’m so happy for him , he is strong
Thank you Teach Dem, one of Jamaica’s greatest, Mr. Ernie Smith, so great yer so humble. “Quarrie was a buoy to I man last night.” Such a classic line from an iconic song “Duppy or a gunman. Thank you Mr. Smith, your powerful yet soothing voice will forever be a comfort to us.
...him couldn't fallah, him couldn't fallah, him couldn't fallah ME...ow, sweet reggae music ❤️💛💚
I remember Ernie’s two sisters, N-J and K-A acting as backup singers for him while attending Ferncourt High. I had just started attending Ferncourt (1965) then and they were like celebrities to us “new students.” Years later, Ernie had a one-man band in Toronto and every Sunday afternoon all road led to Scarborough at Club Paradise? where he played all the instruments while singing. I enjoyed his music then and now. His songs are easy to remember. I remember us as kids singing “Pitta patta” during Anniversary Album but had no idea what the song was about when the woman said “Oh Ernie”. 😀. Best interview to date!!!!!
Teach dip inna di archive . "Missa duppy or gunman " . This man is Jamaica music history. Great one Teach Dem.
Lovely interview. It would be remiss if I didn't comment. I am very proud of your work chronicling the Jamaican musical heritage. To learn the history, struggle, experience of these musicians, artists and entertainers who have contributed to our lives and brightened our days. Ernie's voice is still so smooth. We have a lot of treasure in these people. Mine the treasure befits they're gone.
Well Teach I must comment! You are speaking to the legendary, the luminary, the distinguished, the inimitable, one of my all time greats...Mr. Ernie 'Life is just for Living' Smith! Awesome!💯💯🔥

Teach thanks 🙏🏾 for featuring the legend. Sir Ernie Smith. Grown up in the 70’s to his great music 🎶 that my late mother Yvonne use love to play. My favorite was Pitta Patta 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. 🔥

Learned a lot. Good job!
But how would you get value from the others if you fast forward though them, so you ranking this in the top five can only be taken at face value #Bless
@@TeachDem Reggae classics (like other genre) could be defined as: music that transcends time in it's listening appeal.
Ernie Smith body of work is classical imo. Because of your interview, I listened to his Greatest Hits album. All fresh considering coming from the 70's &80's....
In fact, I am planning to listen to his entire body of work. I did the same with Ken Booth after your excellent interview.
All artists are not equal. I hold nothing against artists of lesser quality.
❤️💛💚 u enjoy dis one teach dem ,great humour ,great candour and pure love.

Teach dem can you interview the legendary Ernest ranglin ? That would be another epic interview my friend indeed ❤️ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This link was shared with me and I thoroughly enjoy watching it. Real history come alive. Ernie's history is full of life lessons that many of our young people could learn from.
My mom, who is deceased, introduced her children to the songs of these legendary men and women. Every Sunday morning she would play their songs. Ernie was one of her favourites...and is still one of mine today. Very good interview Teach Dem. Keep up the good work.
I'm happy the kink was scared avd you decide to watch. There are over 200 similar interviews on the channel hope you are able to watch a few.
The absolutely real icon. He composed so many songs that are not even mentioned in this interview. My favorite Jamaican artist and influence in my little efforts as a musician.
Teach Dem dis is another Boom 💥 interview.i grew up listening to Ernie Smith. My dad took us to Sombero club on Molynes Road in the 70s to a T party and Ernie was there performing that night..Teach Dem you have now in line for the interview Grammy 😂
Bless up you self teach Dem give a thanks
Real gr888 interview mi General, brilliant, God bless, guide and protect you sir...keep doing what yah doing...
Well done Teach Dem.
Took him in once on JBC TV's 'Where It's At." He sported soul hairstyle and sideburns then....somehow that's how I still see him in my mind. It hurts me that JBC burnt down destroying it's library thus depriving us (and generations to come) of all those valuable recordings such as Where It's At... Ring Ding...School Challenge Quiz (with Dennis Hall)...API...old news clips, commercialsetc.
But such is life.
I love Ernie Smith's songs. My favorite is 'Life is Just for Living' and the extended Red Stripe commercial that went with it.
When Ernie started to grow his locks some people were upset. I even overhead one man saying that Ernie was too intelligent so he wasn't going to remain Rasta for long!😄😁
Thanks again Teach Dem, you're a young man with a real ancient heart....an under-cover elder!😊❤😄
see that cat. good seeing "Ernie" teach Dem well done likes the interview.
Real Legend Ernie Smith long live
Happy to see the interview with Ernie Smith. Great memories

@Teachdem
Thanks so much for doing this interview with the great Ernie Smith.
I consider him to be one of the greatest musicians to ever come out of Jamaica.
Ernie Smith, my all time favourite singer. That voice, I used to drive my wife crazy constantly playing his music almost everyday. God bless you Mr Smith
Blessings up 🙏 Teach Dem
Great interview. Thanks
My father never expressed much admiration for secular singers yet as a small child I always heard my dad admire Ernie Smith's "rich, barritone voice"...Ernie Smith looking good!...nice shirt too
Legendary artist, great songs big interview. Classic one teacha. More blessings mr Smith!! 🙏🏿
I discovered him very late, after his "zenit"🔥 🤔 it's great to hear about him, thank you Teach Dem! ✌🏻😎
I grew up listening to him in St. Kitts from the 70's...This past December I returned to the Moravian Church I went to as a little only to hear them singing "All For Jesus"...If you grew up in the Moravian Church in the 70's/80's you know how interesting this was for me...The songs back then could put you sleep lol...I did dance and enjoy the moment...I will never forget that day...
..." well it must be a duppy or a gunman"...still get goosebumps listening to that song 💥❤️💛💚
When Johnny nash covered I can't take it he took a good obscure song to a higher level and although it wasn't a hit for mister Smith at least it would have been very heartening for him to say I wrote that song. Ride on Sammy is another good song. Pitta patta and duppy gunman 2 memorable songs from him. Bless up to him for writing and also singing those memorable and catchy lyrical songs

Interesting interview 😊
Teach Dem...intellect on display.
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with this true Jamaican legend, Mr. Ernie Smith. He is definitely one of my most favorite Jamaican singers of all times. I am just curious, though, but how is it Mr. Smith is able to sit in that same position for so long without suffering any cramps in his legs? It just seems so painful to me. I was just wondering about that.
