Start with new, raw, unfinished oak tongue and groove hardwood flooring right where the missing pieces are, intermingle with the old short pieces, sand, varnish, and stain. Problem Solved.
What are the boards that came up with the last piece? It looks like they tried to create a trap door then covered it up. However if there are hardwood floors in a closet or in an area hidden or going to be recovered.. you could use those. Also if you happen to know anyone doing a flooring job on another place around the same era.. that's a possible source of wood flooring.

I had rented a cottage in northern Ontario, gets very cokd so the woman that owned,told me to make sure the electric heater under the bathroom floor kept the pipes warm! From freezing. She said they'd had a fire under it,but not the whole house! I found a floor hatch just covered by the carpet,with just a bit of it exposed ,so i cut the carpet,and opened the hatch! Oh what a surprise under the floor,all the beams under the house had all been charred and burnt by fire! Probably caused by using a propane heater previously under the bathroom floor!😮 She noticed i had cut the carpet, wasn't to happy about that,but i told her what id found! So,you never know what your getting, when buying and older home,or cottage!
@SparkeyCox I only do because they always go after the milinials for being lazy and taking shortcuts in life, lol. Collective statement of course, like we're all the same. But here I am on yet another property remodel where instead of preserving something, they have it up and do some stuck on "fix". Now I have to do twice as much work doing what they should have done from the start.
If it wasn't for Boomers, you probably would not have been born, you do not know the whole story on the floor repair, if you are half as good as you think you are, to patch that is not a big deal, if you think it is, then ask a Boomer how to fix it, and be quiet about it.

When I did wood floors we would take flooring up from a closet and install in the common area.
Probably will need to in this case.
Just put a built in shelf over it or gas ventless fireplace.

Refinish the whole floor put put stone work at the end with the fireplace.
