- Simple Minds band interview by 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' on the streets of New York 24th October 1979. This 'historic' footage was filmed a few hours before the band performed at the "Hurrah Club". Interviewed by Bob Harris. As for the gig itself, some of the performance was filmed. For best quality, check out the uploads from Dexbam.
Jim Kerr was so beautiful, his manner, face and voice.
magic....this charlie is just a child....look at him ....and jim,derek....just been born or what ???????? this footage is really awesome !!!! THx therefore dear Tony !!!
Superb stuff. And still they keep going. How young they were and uncertain of how success would come their way in the end. Glorious
they were so young and good...
Thanks for posting this!
This is rare, actually never seen a interview from the early days (79s Real To Real Cacophony). Jims stutter was more pronounced back then
Great upload :) If only Mick had been there too! He could have given his input to Gary Numan, as Charlie did ;)
The interview might have looked a bit crowded! Lol!
Many thanks, Dave!
Yes, it's 'Whispering' Bob Harris, legandary host of the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' music show on BBC 2. 31 years ago! Jesus, where does the time go?
43 years ago by time I read this lol
@@scotttait2197 yep the last 12 years where did that go so fast lol
@1982NGD Yeah..i agree i never seen Burchill talks so much, and i loved Kerr shyness
Splendid upload tony,Cheers mate.
Remember the great days
my mind just blew. thankyou
Great Upload Tony....Regards.....Dave
2:39 classic Charlie smirk and incredulous shake of the head when quizzed about, er, Gary Numan
Jim looks terrified😁 He said he was in his much later interview ❤
@tattysnr Cheers Neil! Its good to see an interview from the very early days.
@1982NGD Cheers J! I guess they missed this bit out when the gig was included as bonus material for 'Visual History' DVD.
Quite interesting when they say there is only a hand full of venues in Glasgow, 40 years later and you are usually no more than 5 minutes walk in any direction in Glasgow city centre from a music venue of various sizes.
@1982NGD I know! I think he says as much as Jim does. Good to here Derek join in with the interview.
@toptonychick Thank you!
@djscotty1111 It might have originally been filmed in colour. Mayby......
🙏
@Kenckaplus Is there any kinda crossover between you and Gary Numan? (perhaps...its Bob Harris's voice, the way he talks).
@SciFiAssasin It probably was filmed in colour. Its not in black & white because its worn because SOME colour would have survived.
Interesting Charlie's comments about University gigs being restricted. I know promoters loved them as they paid well, record companies just thought students=sales. But thinking of the Stranglers meltdown at Guildford University from the same era (available on UA-cam), new wave bands must have hated them.
@faddy24 Bob Harris!!! I knew it! Cheers, Marc!
@emile235 So did mine when I saw this the first time! lol! Thanks.
@sophosyne Me neither. Fascinating video!
Splendind, but so difficult to understand :S, at 2:40 for examaple: is any .. .. ... between you and gary Numan? (I'm SO CURIOUS ABOUT THAT xD)
any crossover.
He says "We are actually a Scottish band. We're based in Glasgow. The record company is down in Edinburgh, Zoom (records). Were actually in Glasgow".
He must have been getting mixed up with their then manager Bruce Findlay, he was from Edinburgh.
Zoom records was my label....based in Edinburgh.
Yes, I became their manager too.
👍❤
@@brucefindlay Great ro hear from you, Bruce! Thanks for popping by!
@@toptonychick just keeping the record straight....🙂👍❤
@@brucefindlay You get a name check at about 45 seconds
@thewackeddoctors I think it was right at the back end of 1979 or very early 1980 (but it does say 1979). A few odd tracks on it. "Naked Eye" for instance, is a bit heavy on the ears for me. Thanks.
All these knobs(Bono)..anddials.
What's an "anddials" ?
@@toptonychick it's meant to be and dials... calling bono a knob though shows the intellect, so maybe just takes one to know one?
Well said ma man❤😊
@djscotty1111 Would've been in golour, it's just this copy's so worn it's better taking the colour away.
Bob Harris in 'Interviews decent band' shocker!. I thought Harris had been binned by the OGWT by this time, but maybe they felt sorry for him? :)
