You are both working EXTREMELY HARD, and she is lucky to have a husband who apparently has deep experience in contracting work, especially critical with an ancient building like this. Such HARD work!

Brady you are doing an awesome job! I know it's a lot of hard wotk and you are exhausted but kerp it up as you will aee little by little the beautiful transformation that will be your home, not just a house as you will appreciate it 100 fold as you guys made it with love! Stay strong!
You both are so hardworking….it’s a blessing to live in something that you have had such a role in building, fixing, refixing, etc .And the wild flowers are sooooooo beautiful.
Going by the amount of water coming through the wall, I can't see letting the water drip in and dry out the way you want as being a feasible option. I think the only viable option is to dig behind the house and water proof the exterior of the wall. Whatever you decide i wish you the best of luck.
It's interesting to see how this is discussed here and on @MartijnDoolaard with his mountain cabin. It was suggested that swales be built behind his home but his hillside isn't nearly as steep. I do think diverting water somewhat before it gets to the house is going to be necessary.
Putting a french drain on the uphill side of the wall behind the house where you would have room to work might minimize water seeping in. It won’t prevent it since the rock is likely fractured and water seeps through those cracks.
I agree, digging down and underpinning the other wall would be best. Used to do it all the time, just have to do it in sections so you don’t compromise either of the walls.
Maybe this is what the others here are calling a French drain, but I think seems you could install a large half pvc pipe or something horizontally under the seeping wall to act as a trough or drip tray to guide the water out the side of the house, then out down the mountain with gutters. Then put down the floors over it and the 'ventaya'. (?spelling?) AND you could always use all those stones you've accumulated from the dig to install a second fake wall on the inside to keep from having any wet rocks actually facing into the living space.
Love your vlogs, and what you are doing with that beautiful property! Pro-tip; try and touch something only once if possible, when you know it's going to end up somewhere else. Be it a rock during excavation, a branch or log while you're uncovering the stairs, etc. A little pre-planning in your mind will save the back and time in the long run. Keep up the great work, cant wait for the next episodes...
I think your life is dedicated to digging. What your doing however, is really very admirable. I lived in Europe for 13 years and miss many of the natural scenery and the people that I met along the way.
That dark leaf soil on the stair is unique to the area, most of Italy being semi-arid keeps an extremely thin top soil. If you can build a stone box for composting leaves and scraps, and hide it in the shade off the side of a high moisture content wall, you'll have an abundant supply of rich topsoil for far better crop returns than your neighbors. The water seeps on the stone stair are working as AC in tandem with that tree, making great black soil.... The horse trough at the old path is lovely. Really great property and a great view. I'd look for a German or Swiss engineer, if you can find one.
@din cake Certainly not in the Alps ....perhaps much further south in the "boot" of Italy it is more arid. Also I don't think Italy is bereft of good engineers.
@@kindlydude If you don't think Italy has good engineers, that is why they have been surviving for centuries without the need of one. That statement can be proven wrong. Every country has their own way of handling nature's wrath with or without the need of science, but work force.
@@kindlydude Having dug deeper, it seems that much of what I view as semi-arid in Italy, is a result of a higher rate of evaporation, not a lack of rain. But this combined with higher temps, will do much of the same thing to a top soil. Leaving it quite a bit thinner on black humus than just a few hundred kilometers north in Germany.
This project blows my mind. You are fearless - and the work you’re doing… the thoroughness and willingness to do the most daunting projects. Just… WOW! Kudos to the whole, incredible family.
Just brainstorming for you guys, as I have renovated an old barn into a house: The humidity problems : we had them as bad on a one wall (, even though not at mountain flank) Reasons were 1. there was an old manure pit dug out just next to that wall (and that was currently underground, but creating a " underground pool of water" just next to the wall 2. Since it had been a barn, old tracks of animal urine on the walls (especially if walls are natural in the joints, like clay/hay) will create a reaction of salpeter, that will condense humidty more in those walls.
Great progress. Hydraulic cement is used to seal crakes in foundations ,etc. Drill and inject from backside or inside.. You maybe able to capture some mountain seeps with drain tile on left corner of stone building? install a sump pump in wet corner and run it into exterior drain tile?
🗿👷♂🏰 Absolutely! The dedication and attention to detail you've shown in uncovering this hidden staircase is truly remarkable. You just keep finding more and more things out there. 😊 We use a dehumidifier in the kitchen, which is near the bathroom, where water is used, in the winter. Really helps keep things in balance, as stone houses have no insulation.

Buona giornata.
You are both working EXTREMELY HARD, and she is lucky to have a husband who apparently has deep experience in contracting work, especially critical with an ancient building like this. Such HARD work!
Wow!!! What an AMAZING property you have!!! The work you are doing to reclaim it will be enjoyed for years to come!!! 🥰🌻🎶❤️
It’s a small thing, but love watching the coffee making each week! And the cooking too. ❤
I’m interested to see how you deal with the water ingress problem - it would be wonderful if you could install a sump pump but that may not be possible in this case.
I really enjoyed watching you uncover the hidden staircase and the stone trough at the bottom is absolutely beautiful - I look forward to seeing how you use this area of your property in the future ❤
Wow! All that beautiful compost for your garden beds!
Great video! Loved seeing all of the new Spring growth on your property, especially the wild flowers😊💗 So exciting to discover those beautiful stone steps - with a lot of very hard work from you!
I love hearing the Cuckoo in the background. Lovely!
You are in a beautiful part of Italy. I have thought how lucky your girls are too. To go to School, learn a new language and learn a new culture. When they are of age and presumably have EU Passports, they have all of Europe for their Education to choose from. As Parents, you have given your Daughters the best gift of travel and opportunity. Well done.
Wow wow wow! Talk about hard labor! You are so talented with this remodel! Love watching this.
You all have such a grand and amazing journey to accomplish.
As you said, “ the property amazes me “…..you amaze me. You are an intelligent man with a vision who loves to work hard, you have been blessed with stamina, and a delightful disposition. Thank you for allowing us to accompany you on your incredible stone house rebuild. 🎉🎉
Brady you are doing an awesome job! I know it's a lot of hard wotk and you are exhausted but kerp it up as you will aee little by little the beautiful transformation that will be your home, not just a house as you will appreciate it 100 fold as you guys made it with love! Stay strong!
I’m sure that mason was smiling down from heaven as you unveiled yet another piece of his labor…. I’m enjoying your video’s tremendously!
Just a beautiful piece of property!❤️Love the views!
Brady is an amazing worker! Be safe! God bless!
Hi, thank you for your content. You have a wonderful attitude as well as skills!
Whomever edits, great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The view from your place takes my breath away every time!!!!!!!!!
Love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
You never know what you will find next.....a truly exciting adventure!
Great Work..Thanks for your endurance and seeing the rewards ahead
@@paulhartman3118 Anything done that will reduce the volume will help.
What a wonderful way to document the restoration and remodel of your future home. You will look back in years to come and be amazed!🙏❤
Keep up the great work, cant wait for the next episodes...
epitome of the much needed enthusiasm, courage and longevity. truly I have immense reference from this video in the face of moving
Great explanation and American scientist totally agrees. ❤
Just found your channel and been binge watching as much as I can, I’m not going to lie but this channel actually helps my PTSD episodes. 🙏
Theres no way that was designed to be a barn - it was built as an early house and later, much later , turned into a barn
The wild flowers are stunning. Love the old staircase. Best of luck with the water issues.
Would it be possible to dig diversion trenches/French drains or even swales on the upper terraces?
This project blows my mind. You are fearless - and the work you’re doing… the thoroughness and willingness to do the most daunting projects. Just… WOW! Kudos to the whole, incredible family.
Just brainstorming for you guys, as I have renovated an old barn into a house:
The humidity problems : we had them as bad on a one wall (, even though not at mountain flank)
Reasons were
1. there was an old manure pit dug out just next to that wall (and that was currently underground, but creating a " underground pool of water" just next to the wall
2. Since it had been a barn, old tracks of animal urine on the walls (especially if walls are natural in the joints, like clay/hay) will create a reaction of salpeter, that will condense humidty more in those walls.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
It's so fantastic to watch your work on the property. The work that went into building 100's of years ago is crazy.
Great progress. Hydraulic cement is used to seal crakes in foundations ,etc. Drill and inject from backside or inside.. You maybe able to capture some mountain seeps with drain tile on left corner of stone building? install a sump pump in wet corner and run it into exterior drain tile?
You can't reach "the backside"...there is rock!
All that stunning workmanship! So lovely to see this work reclaimed and revealed!
🗿👷♂🏰 Absolutely! The dedication and attention to detail you've shown in uncovering this hidden staircase is truly remarkable. It's fascinating to think about the legacy left behind by those who built it, and your efforts bring their work to life once again. The preservation and restoration work you're doing is admirable. Keep up the fantastic work and continue unraveling the secrets of the past! 🗿👷♂🏰

I love your dedication to this project. You will come up with a solution to the water issue. Best to all!
You all are an inspiration to me. You are so organized and so diligent. God bless you!
Aren't you afraid that the stones will collapse on you and you will be trapped or worse?
Italy should be thankful that you bought that property because you really care.
I never get tired of seeing your view from your property! Those wildflowers are beautiful too.
Happy Mothers Day to your wife. You folks are exceptionally blessed having this home. The view is so inspiring ❤all the hard work will be with it in the end. Keep up the great progress. GOD BLESS😊
Thank you and your family, for sharing your hard work on restoring a very special property. I so appreciate your respect for the old property. Tess South Africa
Hard work,, it's what it takes,, nothing is given,, it is earned,, the lessons you showing your family,,, is why we are here,, keep pushing on,, never give up on your passion
Brady, respect to you! I am not sure I would be as patient as you with this process.
You just keep finding more and more things out there. 😊 We use a dehumidifier in the kitchen, which is near the bathroom, where water is used, in the winter. Really helps keep things in balance, as stone houses have no insulation.
love looking at the process of discovering such historical treasures on your beautiful home
When I think of the work, the manual labor, that went into constructing the stairs and terraces; I am amazed and impressed. And now you are putting in the sweat. Surely one man did not do all that work by himself several hundred years ago. Just amazing. I love rocks.
You got this. And I so enjoy watching you and your family as you work so hard and build your dream together.
Another stunning week of hard, hard work, beautiful views, exciting discoveries and coffee! I am so envious of the beautiful leaf mulch and soil that it has made. Great for the garden!! Thank you for sharing your family adventures with us.
