Excellent! To hear such a great modern day cover of a classic without ruining it in an effort to be different was very impressive and respectful. Great work, guys!
I'm a Quo die hard .I'm only 42 (only I know) what I mean is I love this song and Status Quo.I won't see them now Rick has gone ( my choice) I'd not heard this and it made me cheer/laugh/cry and woop .A great cover of a great song by 2 bands at the different ends of life . Cheers Kasabian x
This was the only Status Quo song that I ever liked, in fact I loved this song back in the day. Kasabian have done a good job. They've really managed to evoke memories of the psychedelia of the late 60's and early 70's.
Not a big fan of Quo but adored their original 1968 version of this song, blew me away when I was only 10, due to the fantastic wah peddle and synth distortions. Looked at lots of archives and cant find any attempt by Quo to recreate that amazing sound since. They obviously didnt get why it was so good and always played flat boring versions at their concerts. Good on Kasabian's great version of this to highlight that and to let me know that i'm not alone in this.
+Jools Clark Mate younger gens dont give two shits about this. Theyre all too busy listening to shit music or watching the original because their hipsters. :D
Very good cover but I have to give the edge to Quo and the original. Good to see these newer bands recognizing the music that changed what we listen to forever. Rock!
I think kasabian are perfect for covering this classic track, mainly because of sergio's use of vibrato and wah throughout their career, put to really good use to capture that original psychodaelic soundscape of the song, and the articulation he added to the main riff with the fretting hand vibrato and the slides are a good innovation. a few picking and timing issues occured throughout but that doesn't really take away from a great cover for me. Plus Tom's vocals are really good for this song.
Favourite is the Ozzy/Type O cover (very, very different to the original) but this is a great cover for me. More in keeping with the original with a bit more pep in it's step.
Its not necessarily just a rip off, maybe they just like the song?? It is a kick ass song! Best cover of it ive heard. Nothing comes close to the original tho!!
I sort of disagree. The harmony is different that Status Quo's, as is some of the instrumental stuff. It just doesn't have the real psychedelic (uh-oh, spelling) feel of the original. I thought it was OK, but just OK. Ah, to return to 1968 for about 20 minutes! :D
Haha you guys are so touchy,I was just looking at the covers of a song, saw a treat right something nasty, this isn't the sort of music i'm into but my mind is open enough to try things out
kasabian are fuckin awesome.just cos they aint been around as long as quo dont mean u can knock their music.immense band and im old enough to remember great music from the good old days of rock and roll.led zep,t rex and all.kasabian WILL last the test of time, wait and see
@Saxonsoldiers cheers mate. Kasabian are doing what Oasis tried to do but rarely suceeded at (even though i do love Oasis) in the fact that they are trying to capture the magic of 60's music with a modern edge. Even though they are influenced by Oasis anyway. LSF being a prime example from their first album to prove my point which has obvious echoes of Oasis' classic track Supersonic.
Pretty good cover and keeps true to the original. Sounds like he is singing into one of those old style mic's as well hence the old school tone. I recently heard on a US radio station Pictures of Matchstick Men played by Campervan Beethoven - I never knew it was covered by anyone and certaintly not a band from the US! interesting take on it too, slightly countryfied but OK. Most removed version I have heard is Ozzy backed by Type O Negative. It is VERY different but I like it :o)
Judging by the number of comments, some controversial, this is a great pop song.Besides the original by Status Quo, Camper van Beethoven has recorded an interesting version of "Pictures of Matchstick Men". All versions are worthy of listening to anyway I have saved it to my favourite pop music folder from UA-cam.
this is actually a very good cover. Id quite like to hear what Spiritualised or even Primal Scream would sound like doing it, coz lets face it, this influenced them both.....
@DigitalUnderground7 I'll take you on ya bet - unlike you, I reckon these boys will be around for a looooooong time. It's the best Pictures of Matchstick Men cover I've heard so far. :)))
It's fine to have preferences, but remember that's all they are. And there is no need (nor is it reasonable, truthful, or polite) to trash an entire generation or people group over their musical taste- or more likely your perceptions of their taste. There's some great music being made today. It's just different, and a lot of it is ignored by commercial radio. Dig around. Actually talk to some young people, hang out with them, listen to what they listen to. Sure, there's garbage out there. But you know what? There always has been, at least in my lifetime, including the 60s- my formative years, musically.
@spudgun6677 Kasabian have a good array of music and variation. Shows how much you know about music. You only just discovered the song pictures of matchstick men in the last week, you're in no position to question covers.
It had to be Kasabian to do a modern version of this song, who else? Nice cover, do they play it in their concerts? Now do See Emilty Play or at least Over Under Sideways Down
For Fluffs Sake Dudes, Stop all this " their version is better than theirs "stuff.......... 'eh ?? It's a great song, the original was great and Kasabian have obviously had a great time putting their own spin on what must have influenced them to do it in the first place and guess what ??? It Works......... it's all good....... and it's better to hear an original cover than a "tribute" note for note clone, thats just boring.......
I agree with you, Ian. Instead of arguing 'this is better than that' and dissing other versions, it would be a step forward if Dudes(?) showed a bit of musical maturity and appreciated that other musicians have interpreted the song their way.
I AM THE FRICKING KING OF ROCK KNOWLEDGE. And I bring you FIRE!!!! okee dokee, this is adequate. nearly brought me back to '68. but not quite. Therefore the Kaspians failed! And THEY WILL DIE!!! But as I am a peaceful type, instead THEY WILL NEVER WIN ANOTHER BRIT AWARD!!! Pity, as they are really rather good. Especially picking up that award WHEN COMPLETELY PISSED. ROCK AN ROLL!!!! Keep up the good work lads. NEXT!!!!
when i first saw this i thought wot the hell are kasabian doin covering QUO but i think they give it there own touch and make it ther own never been in2 Quo but this is a real oldie and best song they eva did just my opinion
@supernova480 Not sure of your point. Quo do indeed still sell out stadiums but they mainly do concert hall tours anyway. I don't like Kasabian but I like Quo. If Kasabian are still rockin' after 40 years I'll have some respect for 'em.
any man who sticks up for quo is either a massive fan of tight jeans and white t-shirts or just simply a wanker...................i think you have nailed both.
@Monkeymanmoog Yeah I know, but when Quo cover songs like Fun Fun Fun they just add so much energy. Then again I don't like their cover of The Wanderer. I do try not to listen to many Quo covers so i'm not too hypocritical :) And I did say I liked this cover
This cover blew my mind away. I never knew Kasabian covered this song! Well, that gives me another reason to like them :)
Excellent! To hear such a great modern day cover of a classic without ruining it in an effort to be different was very impressive and respectful. Great work, guys!
I think that cover is so good. It's not an insult to Status Quo, it's a tribute.
I used to LOVE Pictures of Matchstick Men as a kid and Kasabian just did it for me even more!!!
After 50 years, the best song the Quo ever did. And this is a well done remembrance.
Usually when kasabian cover something it has a tendency to go wrong because Kasabian are so unique. But this works absolutely perfectly
This was the only Status Quo song that I ever liked, in fact I loved this song back in the day. Kasabian have done a good job. They've really managed to evoke memories of the psychedelia of the late 60's and early 70's.
Well done fella's great cover
i think you guys did great. i lived in the sixties...the spirit is there....keep it up
Not a big fan of Quo but adored their original 1968 version of this song, blew me away when I was only 10, due to the fantastic wah peddle and synth distortions. did you heard their album with pictures of matchsticks men ?
Love to get me an instrumental version... the singing makes it less good... to me at least.
None found, sadly.
At age 61 turned onto Kasbian by my son!!
How cool is that
Nicely done, a great tribute to a great song.
Love all versions, awesome track! Kasabian just made it 'trendy' again for younger gens
+Jools Clark Mate younger gens dont give two shits about this. Theyre all too busy listening to shit music or watching the original because their hipsters. :D
+Oil Lamp I'm 33, and love it.
only kasabian could cover this so well!!!
Or Camper Van Beethoven, Or Type O Negative
Camper Van Beethoven did it better
You are right especially live. Far better@@atholheys
My 2 fav live bands!!!!!!THANKS!!!!
What an appropriate band to cover this song.
Best cover I've heard yet. Great job mates.
kasabian and quo are my fav bands so good to see them do a cover :)
love the quo, love kasabian, both the original and the cover are amazing songs and amazing bands
Very good cover but I have to give the edge to Quo and the original. Good to see these newer bands recognizing the music that changed what we listen to forever. Rock!
love the original and love this cover too! :D specially the intro first 22 seconds. Always listen to this while waiting for the bus.
Nice work with the wha pedal. Nice.
Excellent cover version!!
im not a fan usually of version songs but actually this is very good not too messed about. well done kasabian
Buen cover. Canción original STATUS QUO.
Love this!
Class cover 👌
Kick ass version.well done not an easy song to cover.
This song always reminds me of the "Where are they now?" sequence from This Is Spinal Tap.
Amazing cover.....
Favourite is the Ozzy/Type O cover (very, very different to the original) but this is a great cover for me. More in keeping with the original with a bit more pep in it's step.

It sounds like the original version, only the voice is different. Great tune indeed!!

A pretty faithful version of 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' -- groovy, even! :)
kasabian are fuckin awesome.just cos they aint been around as long as quo dont mean u can knock their music.immense band and im old enough to remember great music from the good old days of rock and roll.led zep,t rex and all.kasabian WILL last the test of time, wait and see
You can't of heard much Quo apart from the singles.
Look on UTuBE for early Quo or better still see em live. They Rock.........
Great cover

Another version of Status Quo's first real hit. Not bad, but give me the original of my teen years! :)

A carbon copy of the original, which kind of begs the question - why not just listen to the original?
Now, this is what music is like !!!
bloody good cover of status quo x
this is fucking class!
Type O Negatives version of this song is so damn good.
Hate to disagree but I disagree ♡
I'm not sure which version I like better.
Five years later, I conclude that I like the Status Quo version a little more.
very good!
Quosabian. ..superb
good cover.
Great group
Good Cover!!!
Love it
@DigitalUnderground7 I'll take you on ya bet - unlike you, I reckon these boys will be around for a looooooong time. It's the best Pictures of Matchstick Men cover I've heard so far. :)))
The Quos original version will always be the best. However, Kasabian are a fave of mine too....to be magnanimous...ho ho.

ian price good cover
This is music :-)
Nice to see recognition from "modern" bands though
Good job.

@skidmarks000 Francis Rossi co-wrote Scorpio Rising with Death In Vegas so its not really ripped off as such :) Brilliant tune aswell!
This song reminds me of a mix of 2 songs "Scorpio Rising" by Death in Vegas & "I am the Real Thing" by Russell Morris.
Nice!!
LOVE
Is this on an album? Great Cover!!
Fyi, in the original, the guitar B string was tuned in unison with the E.
It is not the same as the original.. Different lead singer, different accent, and difference notes being hit. He's carrying the Oooooww sound.
Not the one from "Shoot the Runner". Where then?
@LukesEnglishPodcast they liked it and were being self-indulgent in doing something they loved?
Its a cover not a remix.
yes, you were born
status quo 1968
where can i download this? its not on itunes
If you want to hear the best cover of Quo's original search for Scorpio Rising. ;)
I like the Strange Hobby video and cover best but this is good.....
Is this a cover of ‘Scorpio rising?’
No.Quo
@normalAlyankovich kasabian are outstanding
KASABIAN DOES QUO DOES LIAM GALLAGHER
sounds like a winner to me.
@shaunatkinson6370 so true but its very nice it suprised me
❤😊❤ the dog’s 😂😂😂😂😂
when I look up...
The trick to playing this song good is to have people on the guitar, one playing low and another playing high.
any man who sticks up for quo is either a massive fan of tight jeans and white t-shirts or just simply a wanker...................i think you have nailed both.
@mysteronik yeah! I hate it when bands do covers and completely change the songs
And I did a routine to this song last year, i'm new to UA-cam
@Monkeymanmoog Yeah I know, but when Quo cover songs like Fun Fun Fun they just add so much energy. Then again I don't like their cover of The Wanderer.
I do try not to listen to many Quo covers so i'm not too hypocritical :)
And I did say I liked this cover
i agree
this music would be perfect on FIFA 13 (:
Yep.
