Being a beach bum in Santa Barbara, California early to mid 80s in my early to mid 20s song brings me right back a simple life. Thank you for the video
Sep 2023: haha - fantastic! I first heard this around 1988 from across the river in Detroit off CBC Radio in Windsor - Nigthlines - on Saturday nights with David Wisdom.
This song is about meaninglessness, a common experience growing up in the plastic 80s, true enough. But it's also more than that. The chorus is joyful and sounds proudly defiant. There's a reason that attitude works in the chorus. Lowery could have reacted to his existential crisis by singing something aimlessly angry, and given himself over to his inner skinheads. Instead, he's taking them bowling, and so should you. Telephone Free Landslide Victory got me through a lot of nights when there were skinheads, or worse yet, goth kids, on my lawn.
it's '60s guitar pop, man. and not The Beatles, I'm talking about The Bobby Fuller Four. this is the most simple, most charming little piece of fluff ever. and it's the rough recording and delivery that makes it punkish. this is a good lesson for any aspiring punkers out there - you don't have to make a lot of unlistenable noise to be punk, you just have to have that certain attitude. it's not a punk sound, but the vocal delivery makes it so. or I think, anyway. maybe this is more Pixies than Pogues. maybe.
Was watching this video and GFs 10yr old kid saw what I was watching and told his mom that I was watching a nazi and skinhead video, an argument occurred between me and his mom tried to explain what the term skinhead meant in the video, and now she's a XGF😅😮😢😂
I saw this band in Santa Cruz in the 80's. Good times.

Rediscovered after not hearing it for over 20 years. Loving it.
This video is totally ahead of its time. 1990s DIY ethos 10 years before the fact. Budget: $1.91.
Love this song use to sing it at work
Nice reminds me of BBC radio 1 shows, with the late legend John Peel, and the rightly credited Steve Lamacq.
Silly fun music. Great band.
Awesome.
What a gem.
Thank you!!!

No skinheads were harmed in the filming of this video.

I'm really surprised Boulube didn't slap a warning on the song and video with the lyric Skinheads 😅😮😢😂

Sounds like you dodged a bullet well done
I always envisaged the skinheads not being the bowlers, but the pins -
seeing them bald heads flying they the air
I remember going bowling it took me 15 minutes to take my boots off and 15 minutes to put them back on
Everybody's coming home for lunch these days.....
IKR?
Best line
I had skin heads on my lawn
Always thought this was a Dead Milkmen song. 🤷
Well you were wrong then, weren't you? 😄
