I went to high school with Eva. Bowie High School, in Bowie, MD. I think her family still lives there. She never compromised with her music choices and partnered with local DC greats like Chuck Brown. Her Blues Alley album is a good one to listen to. Her interpretations were so crazy good. Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a great example.
Yes, Barbara and Hugh, her parents still live there I believe. I did not know them personally, but I did know Eva’s grandmother Cass Cassidy and her aunt Isabel Bligh. They lived in Harper’s Ferry, WV. Both of them have since passed. 😢
I love her duet album with Chuck Brown! Live at Blues Alley is truly a masterpiece, forever in my top 5. I also was so incredibly lucky to get my hands on one of her art pieces, Essence of Eva, one of my most prized possessions :)
Eva is the best all around female vocalist I've ever heard....she could do it all: blues, folk, jazz. She grew up in the county next to mine and my biggest regret is not seeing her perform live. You need to do more of Eva---there are some songs that will absolutely destroy you emotionally, her voice is so hauntingly beautiful
Good Googly Moogly ... Thanks for exposing me to Eva ... Definitely going to dive into this lady more .. Full of the down home Jazzy Blues .. Kinda hear some Ms Etta James in her voice also .. Yes Stormy Monday is a very iconic old blues tune ..
Eva can hit those notes, this is a good cover version of a classic blues song, she has many good cover songs, l like her version of Curtis Mayfield’s People Get Ready, l first her heard Eva on UA-cam, and immediately went and purchased her cd
Hey guys longtime subscriber first time posting, Asia love watching your facials expression I assume your were loving Eva’s voice. Love to see another Eva reaction. Maybe over the rainbow,,,,
I enjoyed your reaction almost as much as Eva’s song! I can’t believe I’ve never heard this before-I thought I had all of her cd’s! I can’t wait to hear the whole album!
I don't think she ever did large venues , she was a very reserved humble person that stuck to the small jazz clubs ! All of her songs are covers , quite a few from the 40s and 50s and all the way up ! She's got a handful of amazing gospel songs , Wade in the water and Had I a golden thread ! One of my favorites from her is "Autumn Leaves" from the 50s !
She was a great talent. Died way too young. In addition to Over The Rainbow as already mentioned there is Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves and Time After Time just to name a few. You guys should dive into her catalog.
Please expanded her musical covers and repertoire. Please do she was amazing, music is the pleasing example of the soul and she could embody that. Time after time cover is one the best songs over her cover is ridiculously beautiful
10x better than any of the pop divas. She was no slouch on acoustic guitar and did her own arrangements on all her covers. She had a special feel for music
If y'all want more background on the late Eva Cassidy, (rip), look up the "Eva Cassidy Story" on youtube. Her saga will bring water to your eyes. Blessings!
Nice version I had not heard before. Another great cover is by the Allman Brothers from their album - At Fillmore East features Greg Allman soulful vocals. And the guitar play by Duane Allman and Dickie Betts is so expressive as if the instrument takes on a human soul and is crying in desperation.
Asia and BJ, wow, I can't believe you guys haven't already reacted to Eva Cassidy - "Over The Rainbow" !!!!! (I noticed several people have recommended it in the comments) If you eventually get around to it, be SURE and watch the black and white video of her 1996 live performance at Blues Alley. She was completely unknown to the general public at the time. Ten months after the performance the died of Skin cancer at the young age of 33. Her music was never heard until 2 years later when "Over the Rainbow" was played on BBC radio 2 in Britain. It became an instant hit. Then 4 years after her death a camcorder video of the 1996 performance was discovered by someone. It was sent to the British TV show, "Top Of The Pops 2" and was aired just before Christmas of 2000. It became the most requested video ever in the show's history. "Over The Rainbow" is considered to be her signature song and today some consider her to be the best voice of her generation.
Wow!!! I am very familiar with Eva Cassidy but this is a new one for me!! This is an old Blues classic; originally written by T-Bone Walker. It has been covered by lots of artists of all genres!!
Will yall please listen to her time after time cover?? It’s epically underrated and overly not discussed. Please listen to. Signed a fan for years. P.S. it can’t hurt to enjoy a song.
You guys should watch her live stuff…somewhere over the rainbow/bridge over troubled water/songbird/time after time…..would love ur reactions to these❤
A little late with this, but her catalogue is a must - I cannot recommend Eva enough. I'm sure everyone's told you about her amazing yet tragic history, but only the songs can speak for themselves. Her covers of "Songbird" by Fleetwood Mac and "Fields of Gold" by Sting are quite famous, but I love her "Over the Rainbow" and her "Woodstock" as well. There are so many. More Eva!
Check out The Free Man in Deep Ellum and The Balcony Club in Lakewood in back on second floor of the Lakewood Theater - fantastic little place! Free Man will be more band jazz.
You missed Strictly Tabu years ago on Oak Lawn. There used to be a place in Addison and I can't remember its name but it was in the block west of the toll road. I saw Beth Hart at The Kessler.
I live in the Austin area now but I used to live in Dallas back in the late 70s and there used to be clubs on lemon avenue and over on Greenville avenue, I have no idea what it's like now
My favorite Eva cover is Oh Had I a Golden Thread! She takes Pete Seeger's 2 beat folk song and turns it into a Jazzy Waltz....Her Vocals are BRILLIANT! There is also a very good Hammond B3 organ solo in it
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Love ❤️ Eva Cassidy May I suggest another great song from here Song is 🎶Ho had I a golden thread 🎶🎵 Your gonna adore this song too Keep the good work my friends ✌️ 👍🏻 👏 ❤️ Eva died at age 33 From skins cancer 😭 R I P
She was so sick but she wanted to perform one more time at Blue's Alley , So she performed by the end of her set she was so weak her manager had to carry her off the stage and she passed the next morning !
EVERYBODY covers Stormy Monday like its the most serious song ever. But checkout the original by T Bone Walker, it has layers of nuance, world weariness, acceptance even wryness that the others miss. Genius.
At least three other reactors show the video of Eva singing this live in the blues club. Makes such a difference. Shame my favourite reactors didn’t get to show it.
Time after time is the least active reaction video and it’s actually the most highly respected cover of all time. EVE CASSIDY IS TIMELESS. Try me and you’ll see!!!

You can't go wrong with Eva's sweet angel voice.
There is nothing that this girl attacked that she just didn't absolutely kill. You NEED to hear her take on "The Autumn Leaves"!!!
Her voice always give me goose bumps. Phenomenal

I agree, Eva is the G.O.A.T. but followed very closely by the SLAYER, Hayley Reinhart IMO.
She was my absolute favourite singer. Love love her voice. ❤🙏 she was Amazing
She had an extraordinary voice. ❤
Asia & BJ, any Eva Cassidy song is terrific!! Check out her on "Over the Rainbow"!!
Eva can hit those notes, this is a good cover version of a classic blues song, she has many good cover songs, l like her version of Curtis Mayfield’s People Get Ready, l first her heard Eva on UA-cam, and immediately went and purchased her cd
Amazing. She makes these somgs her own. Just perfect
Autumn Leaves is my favorite of hers, live version,,if you haven't done that one yet..truly rare
Hey guys longtime subscriber first time posting,
Asia love watching your facials expression I assume your were loving Eva’s voice.
Love to see another Eva reaction.
Maybe over the rainbow,,,,
You have to have the voice and the soul to sing like that !
I enjoyed your reaction almost as much as Eva’s song!

R.I.P eva you were taken too soon.. so glad you left us your beautiful voice and music to remember you with !!!!
Too heavenly a voice to remain Earth bound.
Please expanded her musical covers and repertoire. Please do she was amazing, music is the pleasing example of the soul and she could embody that. Time after time cover is one the best songs over her cover is ridiculously beautiful
Eva played the guitar about as well as she sang. Miss her. 😔
Check out Nightbird the live version. Amazing.
Very glad to be introduced to Eva! What a voice! Try the Allman Bros. version of the song. It's fantastic too. (live from Filmore east)
10x better than any of the pop divas. She was no slouch on acoustic guitar and did her own arrangements on all her covers. She had a special feel for music
This was recorded live in a smaller venue. May she rest in peace and God bless her for bringing so much joy.
This is what music is all about....FEELING IT
Here's the Eva song for you, Asia: "How Can I Keep From Singing?" You've never heard anything like it. And neither has anybody else!
I concur!!!
Great reaction to the late great Eva Cassidy
ANY song off her Blues Alley album will pierce your soul!
Eva gives me such joy, I tear up whenever I hear her.
If y'all want more background on the late Eva Cassidy, (rip), look up the "Eva Cassidy Story" on youtube. Her saga will bring water to your eyes. Blessings!

There’s a few versions of Stormy Monday I’ve heard. T-Bone Walker, The Allman Brothers, Jethro Tull, Bobby Bland…This is a great version too! ✌️☮️
Thank you for the song it's awesome.😊😊
Everything she sings is great!!!
Never heard her before .....wow!
She deserves to be on your wall💙💚

Written and recorded by American blues electric guitar pioneer T-Bone Walker. Released: November 1947
Wow!!! I am very familiar with Eva Cassidy but this is a new one for me!! This is an old Blues classic; originally written by T-Bone Walker. It has been covered by lots of artists of all genres!!
Her voice moves me more than most ever have , she is one of my favorite female voices. What style she had, and what a talent she was !
Please do more of Eva. "Fields of Gold", "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", "Autumn Leaves" and on and on. You can't go wrong.
She really did belong on the big stage
Will yall please listen to her time after time cover?? It’s epically underrated and overly not discussed. Please listen to. Signed a fan for years. P.S. it can’t hurt to enjoy a song.
You guys should watch her live stuff…somewhere over the rainbow/bridge over troubled water/songbird/time after time…..would love ur reactions to these❤
Outstanding ❤
Over the Rainbow by her is a "MUST"
A little late with this, but her catalogue is a must - I cannot recommend Eva enough. More Eva!
It's been 30 years since I've been there, but 6th street in Austin used to be that place with lots of small clubs. Good stuff back in the day. 😎
Check out...somewhere over the rainbow...she's a bad girl...blue eyed soul!! She is plying that guitar!! Rest in Heaven...Queen Eva

Check out The Free Man in Deep Ellum and The Balcony Club in Lakewood in back on second floor of the Lakewood Theater - fantastic little place! Free Man will be more band jazz.
Please, check out The Allman Brothers version. To me, it blows this version away.
Eva left us too soon.
She had soul.
I can recommend ” Take me to the river ”.
Your reactions are always nice to watch.
Greetings from Sweden.
👍👍👍🇸🇪💕😎
You missed Strictly Tabu years ago on Oak Lawn. There used to be a place in Addison and I can't remember its name but it was in the block west of the toll road. I saw Beth Hart at The Kessler.
She’s the playing the guitar in this.
Not the solo though
I live in the Austin area now but I used to live in Dallas back in the late 70s and there used to be clubs on lemon avenue and over on Greenville avenue, I have no idea what it's like now
A classic blues song done by several great blues icons
My favorite Eva cover is Oh Had I a Golden Thread! She takes Pete Seeger's 2 beat folk song and turns it into a Jazzy Waltz....Her Vocals are BRILLIANT! There is also a very good Hammond B3 organ solo in it
Yep
Incredible song ❤
Also my favorite Eva song. I've always said, "If Eva's version of this song doesn't touch you, then you can't be reached."
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love ❤️ Eva Cassidy
May I suggest another great song from here
Song is
🎶Ho had I a
golden thread 🎶🎵
Your gonna adore this song too Keep the good work my friends ✌️ 👍🏻 👏 ❤️
Eva died at age 33
From skins cancer 😭
R I P
I would also recommend Eva’s cover of I Wish I Was a Single Girl Again. I don’t think anyone’s reacted to that yet.
You two are fun!!!
Wow great 1st listen for me. Thx
checkout Eva singing “Blues in the Night” you won’t be disappointed
Her band was amazing too
Eva’s covers of Bridge Over Troubled Water is excellent, too (blues/soul).
Of course the seminal cover is by Bobby “Blue” Bland. Got to see him perform it at the Checkerboard Lounge in the early 90’s.
Love Eva Cassady!!
I think her version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of the best ever, but just about everything dhe did was special.
that song was epic, the one, the only, the incomparable, Eva Cassidy....
Damn this song made me want to fall to my knees I felt it into the marrow in my bones😢
R.I.P 🙏❤️
''Gotta be in you not on you''
Truth
She was so sick but she wanted to perform one more time at Blue's Alley , So she performed by the end of her set she was so weak her manager had to carry her off the stage and she passed the next morning !
Check her out doing Fields of Gold by Sting......just lovely. RIP Eva
Taken from the world way to soon, but what an impact she made
Beautiful voice. Gone to soon!
You guys should open a joint like that now, you've got the cred!
take a road trip to austin .... great live music scene there ....
Love Eva Cassidy. She was gone from this earth way too early.
And blues isn't even her main thing. She does folk and gospel much more often. Another song: "Golden Thread".
Where have I been??
There's VIDEO of this performance.
Try the version by : T - Bone Walker🎸🤙
EVERYBODY covers Stormy Monday like its the most serious song ever. But checkout the original by T Bone Walker, it has layers of nuance, world weariness, acceptance even wryness that the others miss. Genius.
At least three other reactors show the video of Eva singing this live in the blues club. Makes such a difference. Shame my favourite reactors didn’t get to show it.
I wonder if there's any small clubs that play good music in either Uptown or Deep Ellum !?
Eva Cassidy was great, but died way to young, she did a great job on this song...T-bone Walker version is also great.
Please listen to time after time by Eva Cassidy, she’s so underrated!!
This girl can sanngggg!
Time after time is the least active reaction video and it’s actually the most highly respected cover of all time. EVE CASSIDY IS TIMELESS. Try me and you’ll see!!!
Please hear her do time after time. The rest Will FOLLOW
💛
Eva Cassidy suggestion "Take me to the river".
Just to think she passed so young. Travesty. God gave us his creation and we have witnessed his touch. Shivers.
The lady could sing anything. Tremendous musician gone way too soon.
Please do moreee GAGAGAAA
