Herro was unbelievably fast and powerful. I remember watching him free surfing in Durban in 1991 between heats at the Gunston 500. His surfing made everyone else look like they were on slow-mo while he was throwing buckets. Super raw and instinctive.

So what, world champion? to me it's no big deal especially how they judge surfing these days. Ross Clarke Jones and his big wave surfer mates to me are they the Gods of surfing, and the ever world champions, takes a lot of balls to do what they do.
Shane has the respect anyway, seems he is a nice, down to earth natural fellow which I reckon is more important.
Medina sucks, so do airs and the WSL.
'If you live in Australia you've won the lottery' this man was never going to cope with the superscilious, egotistical morons that ran surfing in those days, he just wanted to surf. Gotta see close parrells with MP here. Shane's comment about 'strong legs and turns' v the 'aerial era' is very poinyent, very accurate, rip the bag out of the wave as it serves it up to you, if you want to do aerials, buy a parachute.
I am sure you are still enjoying your jounying on Shane, good for you man.
Killer surfer; just ripping; but I remember the late 80s-early 90s era of those super thin boards that 90% of all surfers couldn't ride like these guys. I know it held me back trying to flap around on these boards.
What a champion. Shane seems like a very positive bloke. I remember the Herring brothers, loved watching both of them on my old vhs. I forgot about that old grainy footage, the low centre of gravity was very functional and stylish. I think from memory it was out on the great barrier reef, I could be wrong tho.

Been ages since i heard about him he ripped the back out of waves. So the piss got to him like most get got by something but he seems happy. 😇🙏😁

I wwnt surfung with shane for 2 days i hassled shane to go surfing 4 foot waves sunday comes surf picks up 12foot plus shane comes up 2 me hey vlad coming out surfing with me i vo nah mate to big for me he surfed the 12foot plus waves like it was nothing to him
