Surfing over 40 years for me its a spiritual experience and a way of cleansing my soul ,avoiding the materialism that is draining our society . A simple healthy life is what we should all aspire for the greater sake of humanity.
Gary Johnson I always found surfing help me leave the shit day behind, Once I’d paddled out I’d sit out back and just felt the stress disappear almost immediately!
cool life, good to see the old chilled "soul" surfer style has somehow survived or remerged through all the decades since the 60',s an 70's when hippie surfies livin off the dole or piecemeal in the countryside was the norm of our breed. keep chillin bro an make living doing what you love, whatever that is.
Best short surf film that I've seen in a long, long time. Love the shots. Hearing more from Dave rather than just the usual #inspo #sodeep 1-2 liner voiceover that you so often hear from him (editing choice, not him obviously) in many surf films. Quite a few philosophical points he's made that are worth considering and taking with oneself. I met him a few times about a decade ago. I daresay he's changed since then.
Hippies rule! I should know, I am one! Rasta has one of the raddest styles I've ever seen in surfing. I have studied surf and skate magazines for almost forty years I have also surfed and skated as long. Rasta is an extension of Bertlemann and Wayne Lynch. Spread Ohana. You influence me. Mahalo
Ahh, haven't heard anyone mention Wabi Sabi since I read Alan Watts or Gary Snyder, good to see these ideas borrowed from Zen Buddhism continuing to be integrated into contemporary culture. Great concept for the practicality of not getting anything of yours stolen. If its not perfect, generally, people don't want it and won't take it. (Biked down the west coast with surfboard, laptop, bike, wet-suit on that principle, never locked anything up and didn't have a single thing stolen.)
i think your actually living in reality dave, and dont worry about your friends saying yoou shouldnt surf for money, they would do it too! its hard in byron, cause everyone lives in half a contradiction in that joint. they have to, they are trying to access something more, and have found it, but havnt figured out that budhism is not perfectionism. no, budhism, is simply doing something good with what youve got, thats as close to perfect one can get, by living whithin the contradiction, and making a choice from there on... those who just judge the contradiction, dont choose to use it, and its an easy way out.
not a big fan of ideology or philosophy in real life, but I do respect Rasto's surfing lifestyle. A true free surfer, not many out there as far as Dave has made it. Pretty cool to see, actually.
He's smokin bro, I think that shit all the time when I'm smoking, about if an alien were to look at us it would find it strange to see how us humans can do certain things.
Just so's everyone knows, and I'm presuming 99.9% of the current " generation" , be they surfing or otherwise - don't. This Vid title "'Three Stones From The Sun" is an - how can we say - " adaption" of the - SO VERY FAR AHEAD OF ITS TIME - back in the day , absolutely brilliant Jimi Hendrix track from his mind changing early, one of his first albums. The track entitled " 3rd Stone From The Sun". So you must ask yourself : " Are You Experienced ? " ..... I'm also thinking in as much as it has to do with paying due respect highly creative and inspirational leaders of our times past : " Might any of them know what that is either ? Probably very likely not.
I think that Rasta is a pretty good guy overall but I often wonder why he continues to endorse Billabong given their track record over the years of exploiting labor abroad. Billabong is not an ethical company, certainly not to the degree that Rasta tries to be an ethical human.
He didn't really say "surfing for money is terrible." To me, it came across like he was just speculating about his career and reflecting on how his life has been shaped by something as simple and frankly, as frivolous as riding a surfboard and getting to survive off that act.
It's good to see a surf brand support whatever this is. Personally, I appreciate it more than watching those boring, synthetic surfing competitions.
