Love the thrust bearing idea and 5 different engines with one case, touche!

This is the first time I've viewed any of your videos and am ecstatic to see your ideas and know I and many will be able to purchase a well built engine 2 or 4 stroke that will be far more reliable and durable!

Would love to see you incorporate an option to mount them to a flat plate with 4 bolts as on a Mini-Bike or Phatmoto motorized bicycle.

How about calling the engine the RDM 50 as a name, or the Darragh 5?
Designer and 5 for the number of options, or manufacturer and displacement sound cool.

I’m still waiting on a few things. 2 40mm cranks. 43 stroke Athena hyper head. Clutch cover. I know you’re probably waiting on cranks. Thanks

Really weak "sleeve" at 12:07 to hold clutch pads. hope it has a generous radius where it meets the sprocket wheel. almost no metal under the snap ring. better be really good steel too.

I have a custom engine that needs built brother. We need to talk. High and low end power through and through. I will give you the plans if you build me one🤙🏻

If you design an air shroud let me know. I’d be willing to print one and send it to you. Would be nice.

🤔 Have you thought about reverse engineering a 3 speed hub. So the drive side is switched from right to left. Then add a freewheel sprocket to right side for chain & pedals.
If it was in a beefed up strong hub & axle for motorized bike. You'd have the combination of 3 speeds, stronger hub & axle than a bicycle one. Plus no need to buy a hub adapter or use rag joint.
Every motorized bicycle owner would want one. I bet you could sell a ton.
I wonder how much toque a regular 3 speed hub can handle? The hub would need to be larger diameter for stronger internal gears but hopefully not too big.

      @ShinyUmbreon765 5 місяців тому

The 3 speed hubs can only really handle 2 hp. Research it on endless sphere. They've exploded enough hubs to find out.
As for producing a 3 speed hub. No. Just no. Go watch a video on how these were made when these were still made in Britain. You cannot in good faith tell me a one man machine shop can do that for a reasonable price.
You can get a a rare 3 speed fixed gear hub. The sturmey archer s3x. Cut a bmx free wheel in the left hand side and flip the whole wheel 180. Such that the hub input is on the left and the free wheel is on the right.
There is also a conversion of the old AW from sturmey archer that can be converted to a 2 speed fixed gear hub. Sheldon brown has a web page on it.

@@ShinyUmbreon765 That's a bummer & seems kinda odd that a beefed up one about the size of a 750w ebike hub motor couldn't be made. Then again I suppose if a rear hub gearbox was doable. Mopeds 🛵 would use them instead of CVT drives & gearboxes. I wish those 3 speed Simson Moped engines were cheap & plentiful here in the US. You could mount one on a bike & have your 1st hill climbing gear & a 45-50mph 3rd gear.

In the 1910s and 1920s sturmey archer sold what you described: a big hub gear for engines. Called it the motor hub.
You can find details about it in catalogs in their archive. Piaggio had a single speed hub gear in many models. Why only one speed? To get the right gearing. Many hub motors do this too. Have the motor run faster but gear it down to get better efficiency because of the quirks of brushless dc.
There are hubs built to take abuse, but all of them freewheel as they are intended for cyclo-touring or ebikes. Rohloff, Kindernay, Enviolo, some specific alfine hubs can even take 60 nm of torque continuously.
In principle hub gears can be used for gas engines, in practice these fall short because of either price point(s3x) or requiring jackshaft set ups.(the rest) A rohloff could handle a stock phantom 85 but when it costs more than the rest of the build, ans it requires a shift kit, the idea will stay just that, an idea.
As for motorcycles, the constant mesh is so much cheaper, but cars use planetary gears all the time in automatic transmissions and drive lines in semi trucks too.

Is there anyway to get an 8 tooth drive sprocket, Ryan? I wanna keep the gearing I have, which is a 40t with 10t sprocket, but I cant use rear disc brakes with the 40t. I could use a 9 tooth drive sprocket, but even the 36t sprocket wont clear a 203mm rotor. I could get away with disc brakes and the preferred gearing If I use an 8 tooth front sprocket.

V twin 2 speed I really like. Is a Parallel twin difficult?

Watch the earlier videos on this. The whole point of the project is to narrow the gx50 to fit in the same space as a china doll. How is doubling the width conducive with this goal?
