You're a life saver! Quoted £1000+ to replace the entire module... Followed your instructions and now it's all good! Thank you so much for this video!
LOL - I cannot believe I procrastinated on this for 6 months. Took 5 minutes to find and watch (most of) your video. 1 minute to confirm the problem. 3 minutes to fix. You are a hero :)
Yeah, it's knowing what to look for, which most don't !! That's not a critisism of DIYers, but of mechanics who scare people with needing replacement ABS units.

Just had this problem with my Skoda and glad to see that it just this easy fix instead of a huge stressful one. Thank you so much for your advice and help. Grateful
Hi Xiaou, welcome aboard. As you can see from some of the comments, garages love quoting for new ABS modules at 1000 quid a time when all that's wrong is this fuse!! Happy for you 👍
Brilliant. Wife's Fox had same issue. She took it staright into local garage who couldn't find the problem!! Now all good thanks to your video. There was even a spare (unused) fuse on her car so no need for trip to alfords. Thanks again.
Thanks god for the internet when you re running an old banger. Absolutely spot on. Cheers M8 !!!
Hi from Ukraine ! Thank you for save my money, it’s really work !
Light turn off when I drive for few min 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Same problem on my skoda fabia 1.4 diesel.Followed your instructions and bang! Problem solved! Fantastic! Thanks a lot!
This was exactly the fault on my wife's Polo( 2005 ). Thank you very much for your video which is very good. Took me straight to the fault and saved me loads of time and hassle.
As you say at the end of your video, the warning lights reset by themselves once you have changed the fuse and then drive the car over 10mph. Thanks once again.
You're welcome. Yes, loads of people think vagcom is needed to reset but this simply isn't the case. ABS is only 'active' above 8mph at which point it performs a self check. This isn't 'strange' or unique. All ABS does this. It's a legal requirement.
Dude!!!! Your awesome. everywhere I asked mechanics were dumbfounded didnt have a clue tomorrow I will be going to buy the fuse as mines cracked :-) I feel so relieved now knowing I can fix it . Your a True legend the world needs more people like you. Thanks again man. All the way from new zealand .

Go back to some of those "mechanics", show them my video and tell them from me they're a bunch of plonkers. It never ceases to amaze me that trained (I assume) mechanics utterly fail to get back to basics - they'd rather play 'parts darts' as long as you are paying (highly profitable for them)!!!
Anyway up, glad you're sorted. Don't forget to subscribe and share.
NZ eh? One of the places on my bucket list. My Uncle lived in NZ for four years in his 20s and has just been back for a 2 month touring holiday. Loves it.

Absolutely brilliant, 5 mins and less than £2, job sorted. Thanks so much for posting this.
Very useful video, helped me sort out the abs light on my friend's Skoda Fabia 1.4, the abs light kept staying on and I saw the exact same thing in the video happened to the Skoda and you can get those link/strip fuse from Halfords or Eurocarparts.
Exactly the same problem with my sons Fabia, its been like this for a few weeks as I was reluctant to have the ABS pump rebuilt as I had to do on my Octavia so thanks again
Since ABS light appeared suddenly I was confused which part could broke. Now I know. Now, my control light went off since I've watched your video. True legend. Thanks mate! :)

My car failed it's MOT due to ABS light Thank you so very much for this video. I replaced the cracked fuse plate - got my car through a MOT retest. I was told it was the brake pump - could cost £500 - 600. I thank you with all my heart - so easy to fix. Many best wishes
Saw the ABS-light and immediately thought that it was going to be costly. Found your video, checked the fuse today and to my utter joy - there was a tiny crack. Bought the fuse at VW a mile away, swapped it and problem solved!
Total cost = 4,67 pounds :)
I thank you so very much, Sir!
Thanks! Several mechanics couldn't figure out was wrong. Replaced it and it worked!

Doesn't say much for the mechanics does it? Hope they didn't charge for their lack of progress.
Thank you so much been stuck on this for agers been going to so many garages and couldn’t fix this issue finally after watching this video .
Great video thank you so much! My garage recommended buying a new ABS pump - but the fuse replacement sorted it. Well Chuffed.
Garages love playing 'parts darts' at your expense. 'diagnosis by guesswork' I also call it.
Of course, they could have been actually trying to rip you off!
Thanks for posting this, it was exactly what the problem was, I would never of found it and as a result passed the mot!

You are a genius, the video and advice was very helpful. Changing the fuse saved me 1500 if I changed the abs pump this is what I was quoted. Instead it cost me £3.50 for the fuse Thanks a million.

Fixed the problem!
Thanks for the great vid!
I just had a abs light on my sons polo vcds read faulty right front sensor which I changed and cured the problem but this video learnt me about the battery fuses as well thanx
Hi Glyn, thanks for watching and interacting. Yeah, as you can see from other comments the fuse is something even garages fail to check. Sometimes the fault is elsewhere but no matter what system is being investigated, ALWAYS check the integrity of the wiring and power before lashing out good money on parts.
Thanks very much for this video!! Was quoted £1k to get the abs pump replaced but did this and cost me less than £20 from Halfords for the tools! And it’s nice to show the male mechanics a girl can fix it herself for 1/50th of the price!!!
Top job, Lauren, that's great to hear. Hopefully, that'll give you the confidence to tackle more jobs and save yourself more money. I wouldn't trust most garages (mechanics) to service a walking stick; if they're not incompetent they're plain dishonest. After all, if that garage had quoted you 70 quid for an hour's diagnostics and investigation, then rang you to say they'd fixed it for 50, you'd have never even thought of DIYing, would you?
Welcome aboard and keep the faith.
I hope you went back, showed them my video and rubbed their noses in it!!
Thanks for the clear information!
Thank you so much was just about to buy a new abs pump!!
Yeah, a garage would have happily sold you a ABS unit and charged you the labour!
Most garages are not fit to service a walking stick!
Before I watched the video I was already in fusebox to tighten fuses nuts, but didn't notice the cracked one .maybe reason was I don't know which one is for abs... This saved me from headache and nightmares just after I made big service on my car
thanks you mate! glad i've found your video before i went to a mechanic

Good video , fixed the problem!
great, these guys that do this save people so much money and stress!
Hi rockdude100, my advice would be to replace the belt. When you do, be sure to clean the pulleys before fitting the new one (brake cleaner is good). It could be something or it could be nothing, but a new belt is cheap enough that it can be replaced as a precautionary measure. Far better to replace it at your leisure too, rather than as an emergency repair should it break.
mate you are a life saver , the moron i got mine off took the dash fuse out until i put another one in, then found yr video and found that exact problem and fixed it.

Wow... just reading through the comments... I'm amazed at how surprised the viewers are.
I agree, here in the states, those fuses are a high failure item... sometimes you can catch before they crack using a thermal imager. The weak connection at the terminal eyelet or strip fuse glows and hot to the touch.. I've seen them cook that entire assembly. A bit dangerous considering the battery just below is highly flammable/explosive. Lol.
Great video! I'll need to go through some more of your videos! Excellent quality for sure! Cheers!😊😊
Hi Cuba, sorry about the long wait for a reply. Thanks for the kind words, I am very much trying for quality over quantity, 'certain' other channels prioritise "entertainment" value over the content value (for eg spanner sizes, tools required etc etc)

Later edit: the car passed the MOT. I bridged the ruptured fusible with a piece of wire. Worked like a champ!

Glad it helped, but do replace that fuse!
@@CycloneCyd I did replace that fuse. Took 5 days to get it and cost me a full quid or so... 💩
My dads Polo (2003 / 1.2) had this same problem. Fault code was failure in the hydraulic pump (cannot remember exact code unfortunately) but the actual cause was in fact this broken fuse. Repair shop estimation for the controller + pump was around 1000 eur! (Finland) Even salvaged parts were around 400 eur. I was able to fix this by replacing the fuse. This really saved us! Huge thanks!!
mt7580
Hi, thanks for watching and for the kind words. If I put on my cynical hat, I'd say your garage were trying to rip you off!!! However, with "computerised fault codes" these days, too many people (incl trained mechanics) take them as "gospel" and forget to get back to BASICS. When summat isn't working, yes check the codes, that gives you a pointer, but test the power supply (connections, fuse, wiring) FIRST before condemning expensive components.
mt7580
Here's a thought: let your repair shop know how you solved the problem for just a few $$s and share this video with them!! Indeed, put a review on their social media pages (incl Google Maps) with a share link to this video. Remind them that "every day is a school day" and help others avoid being ripped off too.
You're welcome mt7580. Glad to be of assistance.
Thanks for watching and don't forget to share.

@@Plizi OR it was a fuse for a feature your variant doesn't have. Either way up, nice work. A garage would probably have quoted you a new ABS block for 1000 quid (have a look through the comments, lol). You'd think a garage would know to check the power supply first.

@@CycloneCyd Hi! Actually not! I didn't have to look for a new one because next to my battery case there are 3 fuses as backup. I'm from Peru. Regards!
@@ericksonramirez2811 how very handy lol 🍻
Thanks very much for this video, super helpful!
It actually turned out that it was another fuse on the battery which had split and broken (number 4) so I went ahead and replaced number 4 and 5 with the multipack purchased from Halfords and it worked in turning the handbrake and abs warning lights off (thankfully).
When I was in Halfords the chap working there also said that sometimes driving in two figures of 8 (back to back) and then driving in a straight line afterward doing this also sometimes clears the abs light and he admitted it sounded like an old wives tales. Needless to say I tried it just after purchasing the fuses in the car park but it didn’t work so went on to follow this vid. The figure of 8 technique might work for some others though so worth giving it a try if you have enough space to do it safely (of course).
Good luck
rik Yes, I think that figure of eight thing is a myth. It's getting above the ABS threshold of 8mph that's important. You could drive up a leg of the Eiffel Tower as long as you get over 8mph, lol!!
On your other point, it is possible the order of the fuses changed at some point. My labelling came from a 2003.
Anyway up, glad to have been of assistance and that you're all sorted.
Yes Yes Yes. Borrowed my 2004 Fabia to a friend for couple of days and he returned it with the ABS fault ligh on. The same cracked fuse
So So common. And so many people get ripped off for ABS modules ......
Thank you so much for this. Same problem on my 2004 9N POLO, fixed it for 1.1 EUR. You're a legend!
Do you happen to know how to solve the engine warning light for the same Polo?
This is such a helpful video! I took my car to mechanics for this issue and luckily he was honest and said it was just the fuse so I'll be doing it myself however he said 'it needs to be reset' im guessing he means the battery? Do i need to do this and how do I go about doing it? Don't want to take it back if I can do it myself! Appreciate any advice and thanks again for video!
Hi Em, thanks for watching. Don't forget to like and share.
Once you've put a new fuse in it, providing that IS the only problem, simply drive above 8mph and the system will self check and if no fault is detected the light will extinguish. If the light stays on there is another problem. There's a link to fuses on Amazon in the description if you need it. And a tool too. Do come back and let us know how you get on.
Okay I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on fingers crossed! Thanks for the reply!
Hello, thanks for this, I followed it and found the same issue on my 2004 Seat Ibiza.
I don't suppose you know how to fix the warning buzzer for when you leave your lights on after taking the key out?
Glad it helped, but no idea about the buzzer, sorry
Yes u are great bro please carrion
I watched this video just after my partner took hers to the garage. She just got a bill for £107 which could have been avoided so easily. Heart-breaking. I suppose we are lucky that they recognised it was this very quickly rather than trying to replace the pump!
I'd say you got away lightly❗ Sounds like your garage are competent - not many of them about. I'd still say you were overcharged. If it spent 20 minutes in the shop i'd be surprised.
I have this problem, had a quick look at the fuses, and although they seem intact (i have ordered replacements anyway) the piece of metal that they sit on is very corroded. can these be replaced or cleaned up, I'm not sure if it might be causing a bad connection, as a couple weeks ago whilst driving, the glow plug light started flashing on the dash, but stopped once I had stopped and restarted the engine
Yeah clean up those connections
I want to change the engine of a 2004 Polo 1.2 3-cylinder essence with a better engine, so what do you recommend?
TBH, I don't knmow. Why not trade the car for a 1.4 or 1.6?
Bang on ! Mk 2 Skoda Fabia hairline crack 😳

Is the Polo a popular car there? Is Portuguese the primary language?
Mine problem is abs light on after changing brake pad. I tried to reconnect the battery to reset but the light still on. What should I do Sir. Thanks
Sounds like you might have disturbed the wiring or connector at one of the front wheels. Check connections and that wiring is not chaffed.
Check this fuse too.
can we use any multimeter for checking the voltages?
Yes. A test light even
Hi I was wondering if all the 6 fuses are meant to connect to a wire as I have 6 different fuses but only 5 wires connected with the 6th one (abs one) having no bottom bolt or connecting wire. I have a 2009 polo. Cheers 👍
Depends on the options fitted to each car.
@@CycloneCyd cheers for the reply have a great day my friend
Hello. great video!!! I have a 2006 fabia and when i am traveling around 120 km/h i lose power instantly, my spedo goes to zero and abs and asr stay on! what could this be?
Hi metal rs, thanks for watching. When you say "asr stay on", do you mean the asr light on the dash comes on?
ASR is a sort-of traction control system, and it could be faulty causing it to cut power unexpectedly. Try turning ASR "off" each time you drive the car and see if you still get the problem.
@@CycloneCyd i tried turning the asr off but the same thing happens. the asr and abs warning light come on, the spedometer needle goes to zero and the car behaves like it is braking for about one second. Then it regains power instantly.
@@metalrs6306 So, the brakes DEFO feel like they are being applied?? Does it 'pull' to one side at all under this braking? Even lightly?
I'm looking to go view a Polo like this on Friday and the advert says the ABS light is on, do you think this is the reason behind it?
Fair to middling chance I'd say. Make sure to look under the bonnet at things like the serpentine belt (see another of my videos) for general condition (even if you're not particularly mechanical, LOOK confident). And while you're there open up the battery top fuse box (no tools required) and have a close look at all the fuses. Don't say anything if it is the fuse, pretend it's still an unknown and use it as a bargaining chip. If it's not the fuse, I'd say a sensor is the next most likely cause, but unless you know how to test them you'll need a diagnostic.
Do let us know how you get on.
@bill Bloggs £ouch! A fiver for one fuse. I'm in the wrong business. Are you UK based? Try Halfords, that pack I got was less than a fiver.
Re-check the fuse you fitted though, just in case it's blown again.

I tried, but it doesn't work for me...
I'll try to get the tension on the both side with new fuse...
There is a direction for put the fuse ?
No. Fuse can go either way round. Maybe you have a faulty sensor after all. Check the wiring too. Damaged wires and bad connections are common on many cars
With voltmeter, abs is 12,5v, so the fuse work, maybe it's sensor, do you think it's usefull to buy obd scanner, for see the error, or should i go to garage ?
1. have you driven the car just far enough to get over 10mph (15kph)?
You need to do this to reset the fault light
2. if that doesn't work, then yes you'll need to go to a garage. A generic OBD reader will not read ABS codes because they are manufacturer specific.
Alternatively:
If your voltmeter can read mVac, then set it on it's lowest scale and connect to the sensors. Spin the wheel by hand and you should get a small voltage.
Also make sure to test and inspect the wiring for damage - particularly near the wheels and at the rear.
Does anyone know where this fuse is in the Octavia? 2001 vintage
Hello, I have skoda fabia, it's VW groups almost everything is the same. The same lights of controls were showing to me. I found that the right front (two pins) sensor is damaged - resistance - no conduction. After watching your material, I checked the 40 A fuse and it's cracked like in your movie.
I do not know how you did it, autosewis in Poland, I think about 100 - 200 euros.

Hey mate I have a 2003 skoda fabia same layout ( because vw and skoda have same engineers ) and I have followed what you said and replaced the strip fuse and the damn abs light wont go off , any ideas how to just disable it .
That would result in MoT failure. I haven't got round to doing this on a video yet, but if you put a multimeter on each sensor, set on mVac, and spin each wheel, you should get a small ac reading. If one is not giving a reading then that's the faulty sensor.

I've the same light problem and the engine doesn't turn on... I can hear the sound of the turning on given by the small engine powered by the battery, but the engine of the car doesnt start....😢
Hello in my vw polo 9n suddenly the warning lights of ABS and ESP are on... When I turn off the engine and start again the lighting are gone... Maybe the same problem as in your video? Please reply... Thank you
Could well be. Check out the fuse. Take 10 mins
Ok I will change the fuse first which is inexpensive and I'll let you know.. thanks for reply
@@KelcieR2 i am having the same issue. did you sort it out?
Have you used any tester and is there cheap ones for fabia Skoda?
Hi, Iced Earth, welcome aboard
Generic code readers only read OBD compliant codes (ie engine). Anything else (ABS etc) is manufacturer specific and so usually requires expensive gear (VAGCOM in this case)
If it's OBD codes you want to read, I suggest getting a Bluetooth OBD adaptor and using Torque Pro on your phone (Android). That'll run you less than 20 quid all in and does so much more than just read codes. I use this amzn.to/2m439QG. If you don't mind spending a little more, this is very good quality and easy to use: amzn.to/2RpMche.
Given that an ordinary garage will charge 30+vat just to read a code (60 or more at a dealer) then a simple code reader will pay for itself many times over the years.
@@CycloneCyd So if car show ABS-light so can these obd-readers show what is reason?
No. You'd need a VAGCOM clone for that
I have a 2005 polo and my abs light and break light started flashing randomly any idea what this is please?
A connection probably. Have you checked for this issue?
@@CycloneCyd Hi, I have the same issue with my VW Polo 2005, I was waiting to turn, the guy infront flashed me to go, I then stalled on a hill, then had to put the handbreak on to stop rolling back.. Reason being is as soon as the engine goes off the breaks are nearly unable to work/press, so done within seconds I restarted the car, took off and since the ABS is on and Handbreak is flashing.. That was a couple days ago. I got in the car to check it over and the Handbreak lights don't come on and it seems like the breaks are locked at the back. Any ideas?
Checked the car, was the fuse in the battery. As you said I managed to see it quite easily. I tried the car and it was still on, flashing as before.. But I have read through some more comments and I'll try to take it passed 10mph and see what's what.. I'm hoping it's not anything else.. I was told I had to get my CV boot done on last mot.. Would this be any reason for it to stay on? I'll comment later today with feedback.
4:15 is there some details for this connector? I need buy one.

@@CycloneCyd Ty. I got it already and it fixed this problem. Very good advice and saved a lot. Of corse a broken fuse is common problem but it is harder think battery's fuse and you have to know how to check it. 5/5 video.
I can also say that these kind of fuses sell specific markets, not all.
