Nordic Pale Ale Recipe - Secret, Ancient Yeast From Space?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 кві 2020
- Stay at home and join us for a brew day where we make a pale ale with wild yeast that came from a wooden barrel in Norway. This yeast was sent to us by a fan of our channel and we had no idea how it would turn out, but experimenting with wild yeast is always fun because it’s not something you can buy at the store. Even without this weird yeast, this video gives you a great and easy to follow pale ale homebrew recipe that you can use with a regular store-bought yeast like California Ale Yeast from White Labs. A pale ale is a perfect middle ground between a hoppy IPA and a light lager, so they’re perfect for just about anyone to enjoy.
This is an unintentionally hazy pale ale with a simple grain bill and just enough hops for a medium bitterness. We used Palisade hops from Yakima Chief Hops in this beer which have an apricot and floral aroma to them. This is a great recipe for beginner homebrewers and for people with more experience. If you haven’t already, try harvesting some wild yeast. It’s super fun and you never know what you’ll get. Check out the resources below for a full recipe, brewing equipment, links to our previous wild yeast experiments, and more!

Dang. So jealous of the brewery setup! I'm trying to build mine right now. That new faucet and spigot are clutch.

I got the same fridge! Got it off the back of a truck from some guy in Brooklyn NY. Great deal lol
Nice job on the video!
Lol...
omg luis lol
l love it,
That fridge with the blue LEDs would be like a 1st fish tank. I'd just pull up a chair with some beers & watch the bubbles.
Hi guys! Great video and recipe. What was the F.G.? Do you think that the Hornindal Kveik (commercial yeast) could be used? Thanks and keep the great vids! :-)
I’m getting a 120v system for my “xmas gift” cant wait haha
Guys this is so cool! Would have loved to see you use juniper branches like the old Norwegian traditional brewers do. I believe you're supposed to do a war cry when you add the yeast...but I'm not sure how much that contributed to the flavour. Or whether it works with straight up Sacch.
Anund sent us a traditional recipe but we weren't able to source everything. He also sent us a registered but obscure Kveik yeast so we'll make sure to do a war cry for that one!
Fucking love you new style of videos.
What is the new Pad under the kettle? Is that silicone? Does it protect the table from the heat as good as the other one did?
what kind of fridge r u using like fermentation chamber?
Yall should do a backyard mixed mystery hops garden and let it run wild
Nice brew and good color at beer, but i cant understand, because from Rus. You make yeast on 80 old board?)
Spring is comming, try brew with fresh pine buds ipa
matty es the best
Damn, GREAT editing, had a fucking laugh the whole video.
Awesome videos guys!! We are almost ready to order our system. I have a question for you guys. Regarding water. What type or ehat are the parameters of the water that u guys use?
hey dude , r u preparing your ale making system? wish we can have discuss about that since i am also interested in that
Si yummy 🍻🍻🍻🙃
Matty Matheson caught me for a curve ball. Love that man and channel.
I'll take that Vanagon if you ever want to sell it!
I'm not Norwegian but I do have a wild yeast culture which I'm still experimenting with, it has given me an attenuation of 92% an 88% (I've only made 2 beers with it) and it attenuates nearly all that in just 2 days, then it goes sloooowly eating the rest of the sugars so I don't know yet if I should bottle or not, apparently there is no pedio, no lacto or brett, just some kind of yeast, so I'm letting it sit in the fermentor to see if it's clean from all that other bugs
I will have my take on your recipe just changing the yeast for my culture which is mainly neutral, slightly phenolic and it really let's the malt and the hops shine
Whatever happened with it if you remember?
What fridge was the one you fermented in? Been looking for a set up like that.
New Aire
only 10 days between brew day and drinking it? whaaaaa
What is the name of this valve (spray) on the equipment cover?
www.clawhammersupply.com/collections/all-products/products/biab-spray-valve
👍👍
What is the fridge that you put the fermentation bucket inside of??
New air bottle fridge
Just do it made me lol.
Have you noticed any losses in efficiency at all using this system as opposed to if you sparge.
Opeth 🤘🤘🤘
Hey Emmet @clawhammersupply. Have you ever tried to lift the basket on your own? I'm thinking I wont have a buddy to help me place the basket holders in which case I can use the pulley system but prefer not to.
Yes, it's definitely possible to lift on your own. Use 2 hands to get it up and allow most of the wort to drain out then switch to 1 and have a clip ready in the other hand.
Do you ever use MALTODEXTRIN in your beers or something similar? I'm new to brewing and I have heard that it should add a nice body and mouthfeel to the beer but I haven't seen you brew with it how come that be??
Btw love your brew videos!!
I understanding is that dextrose would actually not add anybody. It's generally used to increase the ABV of a beer without adding body. We've used it maybe once or twice. Only for higher ABV beers which we don't actually brew a lot of! So that's really why we don't use it much
#STAYSAFE
Hi guys!
Have you ever made a Gruit??
Why are you leaving the lid on during the boil? I always leave it off
We don't completely cover the kettle, the lid is cracked. It actually improves the boil vigor and while still leaving room for vapor escape so overall, in our opinion, it's the best way to boil when using 120 volts and a 1650w element
Opeth!!!!
what happened to the taps on the wall they are gone
New house. The new Taps are not in yet.
How much does one of the complete brew kit cost?
Ashwin Asp 120v is 849.99/ 240v is 1500
Depends on what you get. They start aDepends on what you get. They start at $349 and go up to $899 for the 10 gal gallon 120v. It's all modular so you can start wherever and then keep adding until you're happy with what you have because it all works together
9:53 LOL DID WE PUT THE YEAST IN?
classic drunk brew session...
Kveik is Saccharomyces cerevisiae
I like this style of video, thanks guys. Regarding Matty, if you haven't seen him noodling with Brad Leone, it's a must see: ua-cam.com/video/-JkcZRBUNtw/v-deo.html
Entire office has watched that video...more than once.
Where's the old guy who calls Emmet 'daddy'?
HAHAHA, cheers
What are the guys' names? I don't/can't listen/remember things but I can very much relate to the beard guy.
Steven, what are you talking about? I already told you Emmet's name. We've had this conversation twice!
Hahaha
You didn't cold crash it?
Yes, we did, but I did a horrible job of transferring from the fermenter to the keg. Pulled a bunch of yeast with it.
What am I doing? I say that all the time (at 4:20)
When are you opening the cash can!
Can opening vid is done! But...long story short, Ross designed a t-shirt and we wanted to offer it in the merch shelf below that particular video. However we've been having some technical difficulties on that front with the UA-cam platform... So, At this point, we're all, and that includes our entire audience, waiting for tech support. Could be worse, could be Comcast.
@@ClawhammerSupply I will continue to wait excitedly
Need more Shia LaBeouf in your videos
I brewed 2 days ago, you were 2 days late
What are we doing?
EIGHTY YEAR OLD YEAST!!11! jesus
蜀牛
What will happen if yeast ever reaches space ?? Will it take over the galaxy?!?!
Yes, this is a very real danger, which is why we are drinking this beer as quickly as possible
@@ClawhammerSupply you guys are life saver, thank you.
I GOTTA get me one of your brewing systems! Anyone wanna donate 1000 bucks so I can get one?
Listen how intelligent you guys sound when you’re not stoned. I know, not as much fun.
haha be careful with nordic yeast
