      Hey man, so I have a friend that offered to sell her 2004 maxima to me for $800. It has a lot of those issues you talked about, like the jerky transmission and a/c having to be filled once a year, minus the rust though. What do you think at that price point?

Did a few mode’s, engine towers brace cross, heavy duty shocks in rear and springs on rear. Sound proofing the doors floor board, roof and trunk, Lots of factory’s power love driving it only 65,000 miles as off 2024 January. In Las Vegas the whole time no rust. I think a lot of people did the transmission valve body / transgo kit wrong, or forgot to change trans fluid. Then blamed the car. I know it should have a trans fluid cooler. The struts are ass. It's a pain to change those coils in the back... The power steering pump will eventually need replaced. But the car is solid. If you took care of it. I encourage people to just.. man up, do it all yourslef as a project car, and get ready for a great car after some tweaks.

    • @jamesolelo4406
      @jamesolelo4406 Рік тому

      I'm doing so now. But I had to replace the transmission already before I could try the transport kit( but I would have changed the trans fluid anyways). Just fixed a steering pump leak, replaced suspension, electric engine mount, breaks n rotors and now gonna focus on fixing the rims, making a custom splitter and diffuser and wrap it myself as well. If I'm going to eventually get a newer car and do all this, I would rather project my current daily then figure out all this with a newer more expensive car.

    a lot depends on how you drive your nissan... but as far as the transmission goes, sometimes the jerking is due, not to transmission issues, but to the camshaft and crankshaft sensors... try that before you spend any $$$ for a new transmission....

    NO! The timing chain issue though I'm though a major issue is 2nd to the God-awful CVT transmission. The transmissions have have such a high failure rate rate that is it even even after only a couple of years the resale values just completely tanked. This is one of the few few Asian cars that Wholesalers like me Won't even consider buying numbers fine no matter the price. The reason fiat Chrysler draw dropped the 200 from its lineup was because the rental car companies refused refused to add it in their fleets because of the the reliability issues and I know that several of several of the companies are no longer adding Nissans Now to their fleets as well.. You have to be Really shitty to not make a rental car companies cut. The problem was not only were the cars unreliable for the customers for the customers but they were also having difficulty reselling treselling them once retired.

    Those complaining about timing chain, ⛓, I want to know, since its a V-engine will you have two chains inside it ? And will you change both chains if it has two?

    • @jamesolelo4406
      @jamesolelo4406 Рік тому

      Generally it's the chain guides made of plastic that wear out. Bur if you're going to go in there you may as well replace everything since there could be wear from it failing. There's atleast 2 chains. About 2k at a shop n a bit more if you replace the water pump while in there.

    I don't really get the point of this review. Why would anyone buy a Maxima in that poor of condition? It depends on the person who owns the vehicle. If they took care of it, the majority of these problems wouldn't exist. I have an '04 with nearly 200k on it and the only issue it has is the driver side window doesn't go down. You didn't even drive the car, so other than looks, you're not really judging anything...

    I bought a Maxima 04 as well , 128,000 miles for 800 heard the loud ticking till it died on the road and won’t turn on, no battery issues though. I think it may have jump timing , I bought the part for 110$ that includes tensioner guides and water pump bundle , hopefully when I take it to the mechanic the motor and transmission isn’t dead. The labor costs 500-600$ if it can be fixed it wud be great since this car is super fast. For now it’s a bust at the low mileage these cars stop working. This taught me a lesson to buy a Camry or lexus for sure next time, since their easily repaired and well built

    How often was the oil changed on this car? How bout the transmission fluid? How often did you change that? I've owned 3x 2004 maxima and only encountered the transmission problem but that was due to my own neglect. I Currently own 2004 maxima SL with 5 speed. Ive put bout 20k miles in it since i got it and it drives smooth and no problems at all. I've owned 3 nissans with the timing chain and never had to do a timing chain replacement.

    The 4 speed auto is bullet proof but the jerking can probably be remedied by changing all the shift solenoids. They become gunked when you don't replace the trans oil. This solved the problem for me. Most important drain and fill trans oil the same time when changing engine oil.

    I have a love/hate for this car (mine is 05).. I love so much about this car but it has ENDLESS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. if you look at carcomplaints.com, there's a page that shows number of complaints by year, 04-06 has 3x as many complaints over any other years! And 90% of the complaints are the transmission. It's to the point where it's a given, a matter of time, any time after 100k. The valve body was not built well, most 04-06 needs a rebuilt or swapped tranny which often will cost more than the car is even worth. The transmission slips, gears stick, rough shifting, jerking when put in reverse, etc.. The hotter it gets, the worse these problems happen (I've heard it's because the boost valve isn't getting fluid where it needs to go quick enough..?).. the other problem I keep having is the O2 sensors, this is my 4th Nissan (3 Altimas, 1 Maxima) and every single one of them has needed o2s replaced more often than usual, it's a known issue with most Nissans. All of this really makes me sad, because if not for these (MAJOR!) Problems, it would be the perfect car :(
