I've literally had to explain this to people irl. It's odd to me for that even to be necessary. It's the same with the difference between Afternoon Tea and High Tea. I grew up knowing this so it's mind boggling to me when people dont know it.

Also, this is a very western tradition so an Asian like me wouldn't have the obligation to understand the difference between the two parties or the two tea times.

@@iheartanime169 Wikipedia and IMDb say the budget for the whole film was 105M, which is actually pretty amazing considering the cost of the talent. the actors probably all took union pay bc it was a passion project. that said, it’s still a phenomenal spectacle for such a (relatively) small budget

In terms of how fun an event planner job is, there are lots of vendors to coordinate and they can fall through last-minute. Honestly it is very stressful. Or, fun if you’re the type of person to like that

I worked in catering high cost events. If it was stressful for me, I can’t imagine how stressful it must be for someone managing everything. It’s honestly only “fun” for the great and good people who get to attend these types of events. But let’s be real, it’s just the wealthy showing off to inflate their egos. Haves and have-nots.
I worked at Yahoo and we had parties similar to the Office Party one, I mean they were sedate but we had hookah rooms, ice skating in a corner, open bar(s), and a vibe like the Gatsby party. Of course, stupid, out of control spending is one reason why we don’t exist anymore LOL

You'd have to pay for EVERY container that ship didn't carry, and each of those would probably be about the cost of a private yacht rental for the party.

You're not paying to rent the containers, you're paying the shipping company to not carry them, so you'd have to pay more than that, for each, and every, container.

@@karleenroy6943 for me this is educational in the details you need to know to pull off a great event. I may do hot dog parties with red solo cups but I've learned to remember other details, like lighting.

That’s also part of her job. If your event planner looks like they’re in a panic because something went wrong, you wouldn’t trust them to plan another event for you ever. Maintaining calm under stress is a necessity as someone who is the lead person ensuring everything runs smoothly
I love how she's prepared for party crashers, "party girls", time limits, bad musicians, diy ice rig in the dessert, but ice slides is a NOPE.

I really liked this break down. Lot of people don’t know this woman is a real seasoned professional. She gave a lot of really good insight in event planning. Definitely one of the best break downs I’ve seen for anyone wanted to enjoy understanding the background or people thinking about becoming event planners.

For those wondering the main physical difference between a tux and a suit is that tuxedos have satin details-satin-faced lapels, satin buttons and a satin side-stripe down the pant leg-suits do not. Modern tuxedos often limit the use of satin to a thin trim on the lapels and a skinny stripe down the pant leg, but this is still considered a tuxedo. On a suit, the jacket, lapel and pants all consist of the same material. Instead of satin buttons, a suit will usually have bone, plastic or fabric-covered buttons.
Accessories~ Classic tuxedo accessories include a cummerbund, waistcoat, suspenders and a self-tied bowtie. However, these days, many men opt for less formal accessories. Long ties and high-stance vests are now acceptable to wear with tuxedos, depending on your personal style and how formal you want to look. Suits are more versatile than tuxes and can be dressed up or down, depending on the accessories, and can be worn with or without a vest. They also look great with both bowties and long ties.

I don’t understand why all the advice for black tie is for men. They have uniforms for everything that barely differ. Womenswear is so much trickier with an insane variety of fabrics, cuts, colours, lengths, not to mention footwear and accessories. How are women supposed to know what to wear - what’s appropriate, what’s good, what’s applauded, and what’s embarrassing?
I saw in the comments that she teaches a class on event planning for her group and I see why. She really analyzes and reflects on everything she does in her job and that’s why I know she has a gift for this. Her commission better be HIGH!!!!!

The cheapest party in this video was $200,000, and that was the boring wine party. Theres no such thing as a “more realistic budget” when i comes to things like this. You either have the money to throw a “real” party or your just having a kickback. There is no in between.

She’s got such a breadth of knowledge in various subjects relating to party throwing. Little bit of knowledge on helicopter prices here, little bit of knowledge on firework procedure there, etc.

Honestly a film production designer would have more to say on how they did that! A lot of times things like that are constructed differently for film than they would be at an actual wedding.

My mom just celebrated her 50th birthday with the best party I’ve ever been to. It was just at the neighborhood amenity center but she rented out a poker, blackjack, and roulette table, and my stepdad and I bought an arcade machine. During the party my friend and I played the roulette table the whole time and we left with $150,900 (everyone started with $20k each). Shame it wasn’t real money as we are just 15 but the feeling of having triple the money some adults earned at the party was awesome.

Tuxedos are the ones that are a bit over the top. Some do them for the groom and groomsmen for weddings, but they’re not as fashionable anymore. I think they can almost look tacky.
I can't believe I just finished and enjoyed a 40 minute video randomly recommended by UA-cam. This woman is very knowledgeable and engaging, you really want to listen to everything especially when she breaks down everything that happens and also shares her own experiences.

Like lighting transitions, pre-prod loading time, security line item, waivers, overstaffing for valets, etc etc! I really appreciate how many details were highlighted, articulated, and included- it's an underrated art, how to plan a great event!
Her checklist for events must be MASSIVE, there's so much to think about; the budget, security, damages, food, music, lighting, guest list, dress code, transportation, venue. Im literally exhausted just watching 😩 I had no idea

The bit about clients wanting things now regardless of timeline and restrictions is so SO REAL. 30 days is truly a blessing, but sometimes we’re given half or less and we have to make things happen.
Our good Sis Karleen came through with tea, realistic price points, jokes, and a really informative explanation for everything. I love her vibe and she's a boss, especially since she survived working for Diddy! I still can't believe this is a 40min clip. The time flew with her personality! 10s across the board! Bring her back on GQ.

I always loved the performance of the actress organizing the party planner for her father in "Meeting Joe Black". I could feel all her stress, all her dedication to this party that her father seemed not even to pay any attention for. Her attention to details, her planning ahead. That was a brilliant performance and I felt her anguish every step of the way as a daughter wanting the love and aproval of her father.
This was so interesting to watch! The way Karleen can price things out so quickly speaks to her wealth of knowledge & experience, and her speaking style is very engaging. She's also gorgeous. 😊 I felt like I was getting a crash course in event planning & I'll appreciate any future events I attend more as a result.
