Twitch preserves the VODs for up to 2 months and sometimes John saves some so they are available indefinitely so you don't really need to rely on him posting them on YT
UA-cam live is the best streaming service for me for that exact reason, you can pause and then resume where you were, thankfully some people do parallel streams on both twitch and youtube
Until Dawn is being expanded upon, with new scenes, locations, and interactions! You could see a glimpse of one of those new scenes in the trailer, when Hannah and Beth carry Josh to the couch. The original game is one of my absolute favs, so I’m super stoked to experience it again with new content! As for the SH2 remake, there are some aspects that are a bit jarring to me (Angela’s redesign, the OTS perspective, the occasionally odd animations), but the gameplay reveal in the Transmission restored a bit of my faith. The visuals look amazing and the gameplay isn’t too bad. I’m eager to see how it pans out :)
They still have months to perfect the game for release. Don’t stress it too much. They’re still working on it and they had to give us something for State of Play and I’m sure they knew ppl would be upset because some things don’t look finished
Angela looks really good in some shots and odd in others. There's inconsistency in how she's lit and animated and I hope that gets sorted out in the coming months. The knife scene shows how good she looks. Angela and Maria's designs are based on original concept art of the characters.
I think people are being too harsh on the SH2 remake, tbh. Konami doesn't have the same budget as Capcom, so I don't expect it to be on the same level as Resident Evil. I expect it to be more on the level of the Alone In the Dark remake. As for the redesigns, as long as they don't look too different from the OG characters, I have no issue with it. James and Angela aren't supposed to look attractive. They're supposed to look like they're going through some kind of trauma.
I am mildly embarrassed to admit that I’ve played the mobile game that preceded the “Infinity Nikki” game that was shown. It was indeed a fashion game, with story. I immediately recognized it from the character and the stupid cat that dictated everything you wore 😅 haven’t played it in over 5 years. It’s WILD to see a game for it like that.
I absolutely loved the mobile game for a long time. It’s been years since I’ve played it, but I kind of jazzed to see what Infinity Nikki will be like.

I played the mobile game too, until it eventually got to a point where I couldn't really keep up with paying players. I wouldn't mind a 3D Nikki, although from the trailer it seems like it's aiming to be like Genshin? I don't wanna do mediocre fights or platforming, I play fashion games to put a virtual doll into pretty dresses.

If this new game is more like 3D version of the mobile game with new elements like collecting things and maybe fun platforming for gameplay, it might be interesting to try. But I agree with you; I’d rather it not step directly into that ‘Genshin’ lane. That’d take away from it for sure.
I feel like Maria's classic outfit is gonna be an unlockable costume hence why she's the only one with a new outfit design unlike the rest of the characters. Just a gut feeling. I hope her classic outfit is still there.
I'm excited for SH2. They have them looking more like the OG game. YTubers are being absolutely ridiculous calling her a trans character and body positivity character (uh hello Eddie?). All based off of one bad shot. Anyone who knows Angela's story and complaining she wasn't rendered to be attractive needs their head checked.

This is what you mean when you say you see the Bloober Team in it: all of the good detail is in all the wrong places. Like you said, when you walk into a room lets have something really cool happen! Like the wind blowing papers around! Great idea if the rest of the game feels up to the same detail. Otherwise it feels campy.

But to give a better example: when you pick up the shotgun in that same room, it puts you in "inspection mode" where you can move the shotgun around in your hand. Why? Because Bloober Team LOVES object inspection. Does Silent Hill 2 need object inspection on a shotgun? No. So why is it there? What did they not spend their time working on because they were too busy making object inspection animations?

@1:30 - They showed us the same thing for Beyond Good and Evil 2 - and look where that ended up =/ I'm so sick of "Non gameplay" trailers, it's so often NOT even a trailer, it's a bloody short film to try and build as much hype as possible, which I think most of us are just burnt out over from not delivering, or it being cancelled, a buggy mess, etc, pick one! -_-
Why is Konami soo bad at marketing? They should have just called this the "Silent Hill 2 Transmission". Anyways for the game itself, it looks decent enough. Some animations still look stiff to me and Angela, in some angles, looks kinda rough. Everyone else though, they look amazing or even better. I think Laura is by far the best in terms of design and voice.
Tbf…a lot of Asian games have bad to no marketing at all. I honestly feel like their culture just isn’t big into constantly shoving their product in people’s faces. They just rather let their product speak for itself.

Although, given how much the original SH games have a LOT of violence towards femmes and female bodies, I didn't expect a movie where the women were heroes to be like... popular in the fandom? So... Actually, it's the opposite. Christopher Ganz went off to say that the reason he turned The mom into the main character was because he thought Harry's character was unrealistically feminine by fainting all the time and caring so much about his adopted daughter as to go through hell like that to save her. I love the 1st movie but it is a crime that he rewrote one of the best father-daughter relationship fiction in media into a stereotype of mothers having an out of this world connection to their children cuz to his generation men can't have emotional intelligence and attachments too

I never expected Love Nikki to get a game like that. I used to play the dress up game so much. I love that they're building up the series though. Love Nikki was super cute up until late game and the story got dark but real excited for it.
Honestly bloober team nailed the atmosphere in silent hill 2, but for some reason the animations on the characters look a little weird idk something is off 🤔

I'll always remember where I was on the day of the 2nd silent hill Transmission (tm). I had just gotten home from work. I put my headphone in and started to make macaroni (from scratch) for our dinner. I put bacon in it too. But we were out of noodles and I had to run to target. I made it home before the presentation started. Went in there with a headphone in for nothing
If nothing else, the animations and models for Concord looked honestly incredible. As for SH2, James looks better than he did in one of the first trailers where his only expression was D: Angela looks like a normal woman to me and is fine, but I get why the redesign is bugging people.
I partly disagree with him saying it's very guardians of the galaxy. It's very American. The pacing, the way they talk, not just the accents but even the style of comedy is very much American.
They showed alot of Angela in this trailer, now if they expand Eddie's storyline its ok. I just don't want Angela to overshadow James's story. If adding more Angrla then they best add in more Eddie too
I think it looks great, but my first thought when James started walking was "Downpour". I hope not. I think the ambient sound is a bit much. A lot of SH2 creepiness was subtle and in a lot of places, nonexistent, even in fights. But I'm looking forward to it and am excited for any new venture
And why are they marketing it for PS5....are they expecting people to pay full price for a 9 year old game ported to a new console with zero quality improvements? Oh yea, wait of course they are.
@@cahebding for what it's worth, i think it's more than just a port. I can't speak to how it actually looks, I didn't mind it, but that's all personal preference. But some actors were brought back to film extra scenes for characters who got kinda sidelined by the plot. I know the trailer at least showed some new josh/beth/hannah scenes, and we know jess' actress came back as well.
@@superstar4662 wish they mentioned all that in the little trailer. But still, if they are going to essentially re-release it, they could at least give it the The Last of Us Part 1 revamp. But I guess it's hard to remake a game that relies so heavily on actual actors who can't just be animated in.
@@cahebding because its a remake. Which looks way worse than all Dark Pictures games before it and even worse than og Until Dawn. Its way too dark and I feel like they had to remade all the motion cap animations (or they couldn't transfer all animation frames/had to make extra ones for 60 fps?) for the characters, so they all look weird and lifeless.
@@cahebding Yeah, I get ya. They should've definitely been more clear about it, they specified the new scenes/content in a textpost, but both the teaser and now first full trailer didn't. But yeah, new scenes, new environments, new deaths, etc. I think that + it finally coming to PC makes it worth it, to me at least.
I'm so jaded with modern gaming. Very little of this looked interesting/original to me. I find myself playing through the backlog of old-school games on my high end PC vs. the new stuff.
Nah you're right. I saw various elements in the game that look borrowed from other games; not that it's a bad thing but the final product definitely looked uninspired, even if it was competent. For example, the melee and dodge animations/combat system look straight ripped out of TLOU (the timing/rhythm of James' attack literally matches up to that of Joel swinging a pipe), and the dodge also had a very similar feel. James drawing on his map to update is similar to the Uncharted games where Nathan Drake would also write things in his journal after discovering an item or location. And it's got your standard OTS 3rd person camera which has become a norm of the AAA industry. None of these things are bad, and technically, they "modernise" the original game, but as you said, it just doesn't look very interesting or compelling.
I dont think it was meant to feel innovative anyway... I mean, its the comeback of a franchise that is on the fridge for like a decade, and their first big return is a remake of their most iconic game. It is meant to be sold mostly by nostalgia and loyalty to the source material. This is one of my favorite games of all time, so im satisfied with mostly of what I saw. Let's just hope that their product is not just a marketing cash grab. It would be very disappointing if their best cards are these gameplay moments and the rest is just meh. The state of angela is mostly the reason that makes me worry about that possibility
Perhaps because over the years, so many aspects of gameplay have been innovated, established, and reused. This leaves less room for originality and further innovation as time goes on. That won't change unless technology also evolves for newer ideas to sprout, making room for new ideas. Respectfully though, I found this comment to be a rather strange take. Of course this remake will appear less original, it's a remake. The whole point was to cover the same game with a different perspective, but remain the same (Set aside the execution of it so far, that's a different argument). While that could leave the impression of being uninspired, that's because the plot of Silent Hill 2 has already been known for a long time. It won't hit the same as it would the first time it was shown.
@@jerichopasaoa I agree with a lot of what you write. But the problem with silent hill 2 is that it’s an interesting game that was a product of its time (in a good way). A lot of the game’s surreal/dreamlike vibe arose from Team Silent tackling hardware limitations and logistical issues (like difficulty in finding English actors for example). And of course, add to that the incredible story and concept that was ahead of its time (as far story in videogames go). I just didn’t get that same vibe from the remake material we’ve seen so far. You can refer to my previous comment, but I totally get people thinking the remake doesn’t feel “original”. I think people are thinking one thing and saying another; I would phrase my issue with the remake like so. The original game looked like it was inspired from works of artists like Dostoevsky, David Lynch, Francis Bacon etc. whereas the remake looks like it’s inspired by other, more popular video games. I came to this thought after feeling puzzled at why I felt so… indifferent towards the remake. And like I said, at the risk of sounding pretentious, that aforementioned “artistic vibe” isn’t there. But who knows!? It could be that the final product when viewed as a whole, does indeed capture that same vibe. On that note, I agree with the sentiment that while it’s okay to be either skeptical or optimistic, the best thing to do is just wait and see the final product. You know, ever since the remake got announced I was always fearful regardless of whatever studio got picked for the job, because I knew that simply going for photorealistic graphics, and adopting a “modern” control scheme wouldn’t be sufficient by itself to capture the charm of the original. But I digress, this is a very tricky topic to navigate where, if you take a step back and look at both sides of the fandom and what they’re saying, you can understand where they’re coming from.
TBH I didnt have many expectations from bloober team. They have been around for some time, and none of their games were a trully hit. I just hope this game will be good enough so that they can learn with their mistakes and make better SH games in the future
It looks great, and I'm stoked to play another classic remake. I remember back in the day popping the original in my bulky Ps2 and being totally immersed, but now with a fresh layer of paint . But now I just have to get through through the summer and not think about it everyday 😅. Finally some good news, thanks John!

Geez John, that Where Winds Meet game isn't a Samurai game, it's a Chinese Wuxia game. They can seem similar but the style is actually pretty different. It's nice to see more stuff from my culture trend, given that we've seen a huge surge of negativity towards anything Chinese within the last few decades or so. You know you can tell bloober put in the effort and did a lot of little details like James updates the map, even just noticed that in the combat the nurses countered his attack the second time so you can’t just constantly use the melee weapon over and over.
The chokehold Love Nikki had on me seven years or so ago.... something so absurd and funny about the sometimes dark themes/ serious battles over dress up, all master-minded by the talking cat.

Oh, good, it will be on Steam. Speaking of weird Silent Hill merch, Vampyre cosmetics is selling Silent Hill make-up collections. I could not resist buying them... Except with Squishmallows they usually re-release the same things several months later, and the hype for a new one has usually died down by then.
I have a feeling die hard silent hill fans will will be okay with the game because it's modernized but there will be a lot for them to complain about and people like me that didn't really play much sh growing up I was either playing outside with friends or playing re or a sports game or zelda oot, people like me will probably enjoy it but won't really care either way compared to the og version. But I get it because I'm like that with resident evil remakes so I understand the hardcore sh fans gripes
Concord is being developed with help from Bungie which explains all the Destiny inspriation. Icarus dashing, warlock glide, hunter dodge, knife throwing etc. If it feels like D2 gunplay it will shit on every other wannabe overwatch on the market i GUARANTEE it. Theres a reason D2 has such a dedicated PvP playerbase despite the fact that Bungie has neglected us for so long and its cause it FEELS so smooth and everything just flows perfectly into each other.
Liking the subtle changes to James since the first trailer. Hair looks better and natural, and face is actually pretty human and about what I'd expect. Not as great of a reinterpretation as say the new Leon, but its a damn good version and comes across well. Least I think so.
Haha I'm not sure if I'm misreading it but John I feel like you're being a little too nice to the remake! I feel like your original skepticism of Bloober team was well founded, and this is a very special game so it's ok for you to be hard on them. Personally I wish the combat was a bit more raw, like not as quick and immediate like it was in the trailer, but more impactful and human. I was hoping to see James have to wind up for some of his swings, kind of like in the original when he needed to draw his weapon before engaging. To me there was a bit of fearfulness when engaging with a monster because you knew you would be fighting a bit to set yourself up properly. Anyway I want the remake to be great as well so I hope the game delivers on what it is promising.

i think what kinda weirds me out abt how everyone looks is that their heads are all just slightly too big for their bodies? i also miss Maria's OG outfit but it kinda is inspired by some of itos early concepts for maria but idk i still think her original outfit captures what she means as a character a lot more
I definitely think this game will be fun to play but won't ever meet everyone's expectations, the original will still be favored probably but I think it'll still be good for those who have never played the original

I'm surprised how moderately ok I am with the SH2 remake! the voice acting is ok, the character redesigns make sense (tho where eddie??? and they did Maria's outfit dirty). I was very impressed they did the whole trailer without really showing pyramid head xD And I quite like the expanded dialogue and new takes on scenes! I say this as someone who was hardcore inline with TRSHE and followed the whole SH HD collection debacle with great intensity. Also, psml at the new silent hill film. WHO LET GANS CONTINUE DOING THIS xD though it will definitely better than silent hill revelation which broke excited teenage me's heart in the cinema for being just so bad :'( But whilst I'm pleasantly happy with the current impression of SH2 remake... I know you’re not gonna like this since you’re pissing on astrobot earlier of the star liking it but before if you do plan on playing it, you should play the first one. It doesn’t have a PlayStation four in it but I think you might like it if you do like a little bit of what you saw.
That first game was giving so MCU, woof. The banter was exactly the boring style of banter I hate from the MCU. Good on them for having story progression and all though, that's neat, just not my taste from the looks of things. And John with the "Galactus has a daughter?!" impression lmao. DEFINITELY very excited for the SH2 remake in October! And my brother and I were talking about the movie, we both liked the first one (the second...was fun in its own way because it was bad) and we're gonna go see it :D I just wish they had mentioned the other games in development at all, even if they didn't have anything to show yet.
I disagree about the locations. Maybe I'll feel different once this game comes out, but one of the main reasons the original was scary (and moreso Silent Hill 1) was because of the camera angles. You had to be vigilantly watching the corners of the screen to know what the radio was reacting to, especially in the dark. This game seems to just put everything right in front of you in a nice little spot, even saving you some peripheral vision by covering a third of the screen with James. To me it makes this new game feel more like generic indie horror game #27 than Silent Hill at all, especially with all those "icky" sounds everywhere. The voice acting is also somehow ten times more generic than the original game, though I'm sure a lot of people will prefer the new versions of the lines. As excited as I am for this game, I feel like it's just going to make me sad.
I'm not hopeful for SH2 even though I wish I was. I'm fine with the Angela change, sexual abuse is traumatic and trauma changes people in many ways. That she's not a 90s pinup isn't really relevant. Maria's outfit change does bother me because she's supposed to be the bimbo-ish, hypersexed up, manifestation of what James' subconscious wishes Mary was instead of his sick rotting wife. She's supposed to be hyperbolic, toning her town doesn't serve any purpose as a monster in SH. But more than anything I'm worried for the writing, VA direction, storytelling. Those have always been Bloober Teams weak points. They make walking sims about bad dads (and husbands), it's no wonder they snatched this up thinking it'd be right up their alley. Girl please 😭
1:10:01 oh, it is your lie. Bloober Team released on Steam in 2021 a very good horror game called: "The Medium". It looks like a Resident Evil/ Silent Hill, due to static camera view, and there is some fight elements with the monsters. They did it well. So even if you made a joke, I don't see the reasons for it.
im very very excited about the game, but honestly im sad about james face and marias outfit! james still looks too miserable/depressed/movie character for me, but i think the original was a very generic man with a neutral expression you wouldn't think twice about if you were walking past him on the street. i think that is a big part of james' character. and marias outfit- which i think speaks for itself. i understand if they were afraid of copyright? issues? because that is literally Christina Aguilera's outfit, but they could've made their own version! there is a reason in james mind she was dressed like that, why she was everything she was, and a drastic change is just so weird to me. but the losers talking about angelas face can deal with it. she looks fine.
Concord feels like a bunch of coked out money bros got together for an investment opportunity in video games. It looks like they spent most of the budget on just marketing fluff.

Twitch preserves the VODs for up to 2 months and sometimes John saves some so they are available indefinitely so you don't really need to rely on him posting them on YT
UA-cam live is the best streaming service for me for that exact reason, you can pause and then resume where you were, thankfully some people do parallel streams on both twitch and youtube
Until Dawn is being expanded upon, with new scenes, locations, and interactions! You could see a glimpse of one of those new scenes in the trailer, when Hannah and Beth carry Josh to the couch. The original game is one of my absolute favs, so I’m super stoked to experience it again with new content!
As for the SH2 remake, there are some aspects that are a bit jarring to me (Angela’s redesign, the OTS perspective, the occasionally odd animations), but the gameplay reveal in the Transmission restored a bit of my faith. The visuals look amazing and the gameplay isn’t too bad. I’m eager to see how it pans out :)
They still have months to perfect the game for release. Don’t stress it too much. They’re still working on it and they had to give us something for State of Play and I’m sure they knew ppl would be upset because some things don’t look finished
Angela looks really good in some shots and odd in others. There's inconsistency in how she's lit and animated and I hope that gets sorted out in the coming months. The knife scene shows how good she looks. Angela and Maria's designs are based on original concept art of the characters.

I think people are being too harsh on the SH2 remake, tbh. Konami doesn't have the same budget as Capcom, so I don't expect it to be on the same level as Resident Evil. I expect it to be more on the level of the Alone In the Dark remake. As for the redesigns, as long as they don't look too different from the OG characters, I have no issue with it. James and Angela aren't supposed to look attractive. They're supposed to look like they're going through some kind of trauma.
I also liked the first silent hill movie. While not a true adaption, I thought they did a good job keeping the atmosphere and vibe of the games.
I am mildly embarrassed to admit that I’ve played the mobile game that preceded the “Infinity Nikki” game that was shown. It was indeed a fashion game, with story. I immediately recognized it from the character and the stupid cat that dictated everything you wore 😅 haven’t played it in over 5 years. It’s WILD to see a game for it like that.
I absolutely loved the mobile game for a long time. It’s been years since I’ve played it, but I kind of jazzed to see what Infinity Nikki will be like.

I played the mobile game too, until it eventually got to a point where I couldn't really keep up with paying players. I wouldn't mind a 3D Nikki, although from the trailer it seems like it's aiming to be like Genshin? I don't wanna do mediocre fights or platforming, I play fashion games to put a virtual doll into pretty dresses.

If this new game is more like 3D version of the mobile game with new elements like collecting things and maybe fun platforming for gameplay, it might be interesting to try. I'm excited for SH2. They have them looking more like the OG game. YTubers are being absolutely ridiculous calling her a trans character and body positivity character (uh hello Eddie?). But to give a better example: when you pick up the shotgun in that same room, it puts you in "inspection mode" where you can move the shotgun around in your hand. Why? Because Bloober Team LOVES object inspection. Does Silent Hill 2 need object inspection on a shotgun? No. So why is it there? What did they not spend their time working on because they were too busy making object inspection animations?

Anyways for the game itself, it looks decent enough. Some animations still look stiff to me and Angela, in some angles, looks kinda rough. Everyone else though, they look amazing or even better. I think Laura is by far the best in terms of design and voice.
Tbf…a lot of Asian games have bad to no marketing at all. I honestly feel like their culture just isn’t big into constantly shoving their product in people’s faces. They just rather let their product speak for itself.

Actually, it's the opposite. Christopher Ganz went off to say that the reason he turned The mom into the main character was because he thought Harry's character was unrealistically feminine by fainting all the time and caring so much about his adopted daughter as to go through hell like that to save her. I love the 1st movie but it is a crime that he rewrote one of the best father-daughter relationship fiction in media into a stereotype of mothers having an out of this world connection to their children cuz to his generation men can't have emotional intelligence and attachments too

I never expected Love Nikki to get a game like that. I used to play the dress up game so much. I love that they're building up the series though. Love Nikki was super cute up until late game and the story got dark but real excited for it.
Honestly bloober team nailed the atmosphere in silent hill 2, but for some reason the animations on the characters look a little weird idk something is off 🤔

I had just gotten home from work. I put my headphone in and started to make macaroni (from scratch) for our dinner. I put bacon in it too. But we were out of noodles and I had to run to target. I made it home before the presentation started. Went in there with a headphone in for nothing

Angela looks like a normal woman to me and is fine, but I get why the redesign is bugging people.
I partly disagree with him saying it's very guardians of the galaxy. It's very American. The pacing, the way they talk, not just the accents but even the style of comedy is very much American.

I think it looks great, but my first thought when James started walking was "Downpour". I hope not. I think the ambient sound is a bit much. A lot of SH2 creepiness was subtle and in a lot of places, nonexistent, even in fights. But I'm looking forward to it and am excited for any new venture

@@cahebding for what it's worth, i think it's more than just a port. I can't speak to how it actually looks, I didn't mind it, but that's all personal preference. But some actors were brought back to film extra scenes for characters who got kinda sidelined by the plot. I know the trailer at least showed some new josh/beth/hannah scenes, and we know jess' actress came back as well.
@@superstar4662 wish they mentioned all that in the little trailer. But still, if they are going to essentially re-release it, they could at least give it the The Last of Us Part 1 revamp. But I guess it's hard to remake a game that relies so heavily on actual actors who can't just be animated in.
@@cahebding because its a remake. Which looks way worse than all Dark Pictures games before it and even worse than og Until Dawn. Its way too dark and I feel like they had to remade all the motion cap animations (or they couldn't transfer all animation frames/had to make extra ones for 60 fps?) for the characters, so they all look weird and lifeless.
@@cahebding Yeah, I get ya. They should've definitely been more clear about it, they specified the new scenes/content in a textpost, but both the teaser and now first full trailer didn't. But yeah, new scenes, new environments, new deaths, etc. I think that + it finally coming to PC makes it worth it, to me at least.
I'm so jaded with modern gaming. Very little of this looked interesting/original to me. I find myself playing through the backlog of old-school games on my high end PC vs. the new stuff.
Nah you're right. I saw various elements in the game that look borrowed from other games; not that it's a bad thing but the final product definitely looked uninspired, even if it was competent.
For example, the melee and dodge animations/combat system look straight ripped out of TLOU (the timing/rhythm of James' attack literally matches up to that of Joel swinging a pipe), and the dodge also had a very similar feel.
James drawing on his map to update is similar to the Uncharted games where Nathan Drake would also write things in his journal after discovering an item or location.
And it's got your standard OTS 3rd person camera which has become a norm of the AAA industry.
None of these things are bad, and technically, they "modernise" the original game, but as you said, it just doesn't look very interesting or compelling.
I dont think it was meant to feel innovative anyway... I mean, its the comeback of a franchise that is on the fridge for like a decade, and their first big return is a remake of their most iconic game. It is meant to be sold mostly by nostalgia and loyalty to the source material.
This is one of my favorite games of all time, so im satisfied with mostly of what I saw. Let's just hope that their product is not just a marketing cash grab. It would be very disappointing if their best cards are these gameplay moments and the rest is just meh. The state of angela is mostly the reason that makes me worry about that possibility
Perhaps because over the years, so many aspects of gameplay have been innovated, established, and reused. This leaves less room for originality and further innovation as time goes on. That won't change unless technology also evolves for newer ideas to sprout, making room for new ideas.
Respectfully though, I found this comment to be a rather strange take. Of course this remake will appear less original, it's a remake. The whole point was to cover the same game with a different perspective, but remain the same (Set aside the execution of it so far, that's a different argument). While that could leave the impression of being uninspired, that's because the plot of Silent Hill 2 has already been known for a long time. It won't hit the same as it would the first time it was shown.
@@jerichopasaoa I agree with a lot of what you write. But the problem with silent hill 2 is that it’s an interesting game that was a product of its time (in a good way). A lot of the game’s surreal/dreamlike vibe arose from Team Silent tackling hardware limitations and logistical issues (like difficulty in finding English actors for example).
And of course, add to that the incredible story and concept that was ahead of its time (as far story in videogames go).
I just didn’t get that same vibe from the remake material we’ve seen so far.
You can refer to my previous comment, but I totally get people thinking the remake doesn’t feel “original”.
I think people are thinking one thing and saying another; I would phrase my issue with the remake like so.
The original game looked like it was inspired from works of artists like Dostoevsky, David Lynch, Francis Bacon etc. whereas the remake looks like it’s inspired by other, more popular video games. I came to this thought after feeling puzzled at why I felt so… indifferent towards the remake. And like I said, at the risk of sounding pretentious, that aforementioned “artistic vibe” isn’t there.
But who knows!? It could be that the final product when viewed as a whole, does indeed capture that same vibe. On that note, I agree with the sentiment that while it’s okay to be either skeptical or optimistic, the best thing to do is just wait and see the final product.
You know, ever since the remake got announced I was always fearful regardless of whatever studio got picked for the job, because I knew that simply going for photorealistic graphics, and adopting a “modern” control scheme wouldn’t be sufficient by itself to capture the charm of the original.
But I digress, this is a very tricky topic to navigate where, if you take a step back and look at both sides of the fandom and what they’re saying, you can understand where they’re coming from.
TBH I didnt have many expectations from bloober team. They have been around for some time, and none of their games were a trully hit. I just hope this game will be good enough so that they can learn with their mistakes and make better SH games in the future
It looks great, and I'm stoked to play another classic remake. I remember back in the day popping the original in my bulky Ps2 and being totally immersed, but now with a fresh layer of paint . But now I just have to get through through the summer and not think about it everyday 😅. Finally some good news, thanks John!

Geez John, that Where Winds Meet game isn't a Samurai game, it's a Chinese Wuxia game. They can seem similar but the style is actually pretty different. It's nice to see more stuff from my culture trend, given that we've seen a huge surge of negativity towards anything Chinese within the last few decades or so. You know you can tell bloober put in the effort and did a lot of little details like James updates the map, even just noticed that in the combat the nurses countered his attack the second time so you can’t just constantly use the melee weapon over and over.

I have a feeling die hard silent hill fans will will be okay with the game because it's modernized but there will be a lot for them to complain about and people like me that didn't really play much sh growing up I was either playing outside with friends or playing re or a sports game or zelda oot, people like me will probably enjoy it but won't really care either way compared to the og version. But I get it because I'm like that with resident evil remakes so I understand the hardcore sh fans gripes
Concord is being developed with help from Bungie which explains all the Destiny inspriation. Icarus dashing, warlock glide, hunter dodge, knife throwing etc. If it feels like D2 gunplay it will shit on every other wannabe overwatch on the market i GUARANTEE it. Theres a reason D2 has such a dedicated PvP playerbase despite the fact that Bungie has neglected us for so long and its cause it FEELS so smooth and everything just flows perfectly into each other.
Liking the subtle changes to James since the first trailer. Hair looks better and natural, and face is actually pretty human and about what I'd expect. Not as great of a reinterpretation as say the new Leon, but its a damn good version and comes across well. Least I think so.
Haha I'm not sure if I'm misreading it but John I feel like you're being a little too nice to the remake! I feel like your original skepticism of Bloober team was well founded, and this is a very special game so it's ok for you to be hard on them.
Personally I wish the combat was a bit more raw, like not as quick and immediate like it was in the trailer, but more impactful and human. I was hoping to see James have to wind up for some of his swings, kind of like in the original when he needed to draw his weapon before engaging. To me there was a bit of fearfulness when engaging with a monster because you knew you would be fighting a bit to set yourself up properly.
Anyway I want the remake to be great as well so I hope the game delivers on what it is promising.

I definitely think this game will be fun to play but won't ever meet everyone's expectations, the original will still be favored probably but I think it'll still be good for those who have never played the original

I've probably played the original sh2 and 3 five times each. tbh was very worried about this game (and remakes in general) but this looks great so far.

Oooh OK I am actually super amped for the SH2 remake! 😱 The gameplay really doesn't look bad at all and the atmosphere is really on point. Too many modern games make everything crystal clear and that takes away the eerie-ness. And I don't see all the fuss over Angela's redesign. She actually looks like a teenager now and not a middle aged woman 😂 Now just to go get a PS5 or upgraded PC to play it 😬

Não tem aspecto de realismo. Não tem naturalidade. A face dos personagens e qualquer coisa no cenário remete a jogis da Lego ou afins. É difícil se esforçar cognitivamente para fingir wue nossas afeições não estão olhando para um ambiente falso com altas pretensões de ser realista, mas por essa divergência entre teoria e prática, fracassa.
E isso tudo não faz O NOSSO CÉREBRO 🧠 ser impactado e convencido sensoriamente, como sabemos que muitos jogos com essa temática e pretensão, conseguem gerar facilmente, apenas dando atenção aos detalhes. E nesse caso eu acredito que seja uma característica da Engine dessa empresa, pois todos os jogos dela são assim. Algo que só funciona bem em novos de aventura, e não em jogos de terror.
O pior é que, apesar disso estar tão evidente e justificado pela nossa monotonia comparada às nossas incríveis emoções com os quatr jogos originais clássicos, ainda vai ter ignorante, alienado, cego, burro, sem sensibilidade e percepção, sem experiência, que vai olhar pra isso aí (um jogo de nível de PlayStation 3) e vai mesmo gritar histericamente como se tivesse tendo um ataque de pelancas e dizer "nossaaaaa que tudoooooo" e fingir que um console já na sua quinta versão e com propósito de evolução em resolução e gráficos justifica o seu lançamento juntamente com um JOGO DE FRANQUIA EXCLUSIVO DESSE NAIPE E RENOME mas que entrega mais do mesmo potencial de hardwares e software de duas versões de console atrás e, ainda pior, custando caríssimo como se valesse.

I'm surprised how moderately ok I am with the SH2 remake! the voice acting is ok, the character redesigns make sense (tho where eddie??? and they did Maria's outfit dirty). I was very impressed they did the whole trailer without really showing pyramid head xD And I quite like the expanded dialogue and new takes on scenes!
I say this as someone who was hardcore inline with TRSHE and followed the whole SH HD collection debacle with great intensity.
Also, psml at the new silent hill film. WHO LET GANS CONTINUE DOING THIS xD though it will definitely better than silent hill revelation which broke excited teenage me's heart in the cinema for being just so bad :'(

I know you’re not gonna like this since you’re pissing on astrobot earlier of the star liking it but before if you do plan on playing it, you should play the first one. It doesn’t have a PlayStation four in it but I think you might like it if you do like a little bit of what you saw.

That first game was giving so MCU, woof. The banter was exactly the boring style of banter I hate from the MCU. Good on them for having story progression and all though, that's neat, just not my taste from the looks of things. And John with the "Galactus has a daughter?!" impression lmao. DEFINITELY very excited for the SH2 remake in October! And my brother and I were talking about the movie, we both liked the first one (the second...was fun in its own way because it was bad) and we're gonna go see it :D I just wish they had mentioned the other games in development at all, even if they didn't have anything to show yet.
I disagree about the locations. Maybe I'll feel different once this game comes out, but one of the main reasons the original was scary (and moreso Silent Hill 1) was because of the camera angles. You had to be vigilantly watching the corners of the screen to know what the radio was reacting to, especially in the dark. This game seems to just put everything right in front of you in a nice little spot, even saving you some peripheral vision by covering a third of the screen with James. To me it makes this new game feel more like generic indie horror game #27 than Silent Hill at all, especially with all those "icky" sounds everywhere. The voice acting is also somehow ten times more generic than the original game, though I'm sure a lot of people will prefer the new versions of the lines. As excited as I am for this game, I feel like it's just going to make me sad.
I'm not hopeful for SH2 even though I wish I was.
I'm fine with the Angela change, sexual abuse is traumatic and trauma changes people in many ways. That she's not a 90s pinup isn't really relevant. Maria's outfit change does bother me because she's supposed to be the bimbo-ish, hypersexed up, manifestation of what James' subconscious wishes Mary was instead of his sick rotting wife. She's supposed to be hyperbolic, toning her town doesn't serve any purpose as a monster in SH.
But more than anything I'm worried for the writing, VA direction, storytelling. Those have always been Bloober Teams weak points. They make walking sims about bad dads (and husbands), it's no wonder they snatched this up thinking it'd be right up their alley.

It looks like a Resident Evil/ Silent Hill, due to static camera view, and there is some fight elements with the monsters. They did it well. So even if you made a joke, I don't see the reasons for it.

im very very excited about the game, but honestly im sad about james face and marias outfit! james still looks too miserable/depressed/movie character for me, but i think the original was a very generic man with a neutral expression you wouldn't think twice about if you were walking past him on the street. i think that is a big part of james' character.
and marias outfit- which i think speaks for itself. i understand if they were afraid of copyright? issues? because that is literally Christina Aguilera's outfit, but they could've made their own version! there is a reason in james mind she was dressed like that, why she was everything she was, and a drastic change is just so weird to me.
but the losers talking about angelas face can deal with it. she looks fine.
