in case you/those watching were curious, moments like the one at the tunnel (24:33) where the camera zooms out and plays that music are areas from the original that were changed/moved elsewhere in the remake (in this case, that tunnel is where you find the radio and fight your first enemy in the OG)
Anyone who doesn't now the original would have no interest in this, unless theay are too dumb to work out how to watch/play the original, in which case they are surely too dumb to bother reading your comment, no?
Oh that’s really interesting! I was wondering about that during my playthrough because it did have an overwhelming sense of “this feels familiar” but I couldn’t place it lol they nailed that
The graphics are BEAUTIFUL. The stubble in the opening cut scene was jaw dropping. Also, love when John says he's not going to 100% the game, because then he usually does (lol)
Heard the music in the bathroom, and immediately my body had a visceral reaction to it. It's been so long. Still the best videogame soundtrack of all time.
The little moments where the camera just stares at a place with the little jingle, are mementos of the OG game. An homage, if you will. The first one you found was actually the tunnel where you got your radio in the original!

Hi, John. Shortly after I graduated high school in 2018, I became morbidly curious about Silent Hill 4 after learning about its unusual plot. Back then, I was a fraidy cat who was scared of everything; my strict Evangelical upbringing had taught me that horror media was literally demonic. However, I was still curious enough to seek out a playthrough of Silent Hill 4. That was when I discovered your channel, and I watched your playthrough of Silent Hill 4 (which, by the way, I still regard as one of the scariest games ever made). It was an incredible and immersive experience, especially since we were both experiencing the game for the first time. Shortly after finishing your playthrough of that game, I moved on to watch your playthrough of Silent Hill 3 too. Watching both playthroughs made me brave enough to buy my own copies of those games and beat them myself. Ever since, Silent Hill has gone on to become my favorite video game series for the past several years. Silent Hill 3 is my favorite fictional media in general. Silent Hill helped me shed my fear of horror media, in a way helping me become a proper adult in the process. The things that used to give me terrible night paralysis no longer scare me at all. Forgive me if this sounds parasocial, but experiencing a franchise as legendary as Silent Hill with you is one of my core memories. You weren't just any other Let's Player; you were a sharp-witted and genuine guy who added meaningful commentary to the games he played. I'm so thankful I chose your playthrough of Silent Hill 4 all those years ago, not someone else's. I've been a follower of your UA-cam videos ever since, whether you were playing other horror games, bad indie horror games, debunking ghost videos, and even the funny House Party gameplay. It feels like we've come full circle with this new and modern Silent Hill 2. I purposefully avoided any other playthroughs because I made a point to watch yours first. Thanks for the memories, John. Always looking forward to future videos.

They've spent over a decade just selling off licensing rights for some of the Silent Hill stuff that people remember fondly, see for instance how Pyramid Head was the only Silent Hill thing that regularly showed up in media for a long while.

It seems like such a good concept." I just smiled and was like "you are gunna love it" remakes are good for those who can't play the OG's due to systems and such, and it makes me happy
12:20 its funny you mention this, because according to the producer of this remake in one of the interviews by game journalists, he said it was the OTHER way around in which Bloober insisted on keeping things as close to the original as comfortably possible
I think Bloober knew that this was gonna be make or break for them, and it shows in how well it is done. I loved Layers of Fear, but perhaps they are gonna find their place in faithful atmospheric remakes.
They did a great job, the only nitpick I have is that they blooberfied the Abstract Daddy bossfight but thankfully it's not a negative, the new stuff for it just felt a bit out of place and it was fun regardless.

I wonder if I'd freak out as badly as I did when you first meet "it", in the apartment complex. Alright, yup, that encounter STILL filled me with dread, even though you see "it" all over the internet and in assorted games. Which is kinda neat, but now I'm afraid I'll have troubles sleeping.
The voice acting is different but the conversation was exactly the same. That first conversation drop kicked me back to playing this game for the first time in highschool

For anyone curious, "Radiesthesia describes a physical ability to detect radiation emitted by a person, animal, object or geographical feature...Practitioners may claim to be able to detect the emitted radiation through use of their hands or more typically with dowsing rods or a pendulum."
it has taken me days to get through this part 1, taking care of my mother post mastectomy after breast cancer treatment, i don't get much free time. but thank you for the uploads, john. gives me something to temporarily take my mind off real life in little half hour bursts. but i'm a SH4 fan, too. it's a point of (playful) contention between my friends and i.
I actually like Angela's redesign, i thought she was closer to James age in the original one only to find out she was 19 the whole time. She did NOT look 19 in the original so they really made her actually look her age, she even the little baby face roundness. Even her voice sounds less mature and more in character. Honestly just good decisions all around.
"Could Mary really be here? Is she still alive? Or is it all... an elaborate TikTok hoax?" - James Sunderland The setting is looking very slick and the atmosphere with the improved graphics combined with the fantastic music is very neat so far. This kinda reminds me of The Evil Within 2 (the superior Evil Within game), I guess maneuvering around the city listening to the crackle of the radio was reminding me of it and the eeriness reminds me of the creepy singing lady who pops up sometimes and makes it misty (and yes, I know Silent Hill was the one that was almost certainly an influence on it and not the other way around, but I rewatched TEW2 like last year or something so it's still kinda fresh in my mind and Silent Hill is foggier in my mind lol). Makes it extra cozy, I know the whole point of SH is to be creepy and unsettling but TEW2 is a very cozy action-horror game to me haha. I'm only an hour and 27 minutes in, but I gotta put a pause on this, the hurricane is coming our way and we're planning on watching movies together for a few hours (we're not projected to get hit too hard, but still we're thinking we're at least going to lose power). If our power is still on after that, I'll hop back and try to get through as much Johntent as I can to try and enjoy myself lol. Ty John, I appreciate having comfy funny content like yours to hang out with
I did, in fact, watch all 65 episodes of your Balder's Gate playthrough. (43:00) Been excited for this LP since the remake was announced. Can't wait to get all your thoughts!
There sure are a lot of convenient James-sized crawlholes all over town :P It's silly but the rest of the environments are so natural that seeing such a gamey passageway made me lol every time
As an advid fan of the original, I have been super excited for this remake. But I am not going to get to play it for myself. I am glad you are playing it and you're giving me something to watch at work tonight.
Ok we are over doing it with the ambient sounds, No john, no we are not, Sounds Great to me! Been playing Silent Hill 2 for over 20+ years and I like what I see and hear, from a 53-year-old gamer mind you!
Why yes, I did watch all 65 parts of your Baldur’s Gate 3 playthough! 😊 But onto Silent Hill 2: I’ve tried two times playing the original game, but I’ve always chickened out when I got to the town, lol. So I’ve never completed the game. However, that was part of the reason why I got into Let’s Plays on youtube, because I love horror but I’m too much of a coward to play any games in that genre by myself.
So far I am really liking this game. I like how they went with white cloth for pointing out things, a lot more subtle and has some meaning to it. This game is making me think that bloober team works better if they are not in total creative control of a game.
I love how much you appreciate this genre. You can tell it's so obviously a passion of yours, you even know the composer of the music. This is why I enjoy watching your videos so much :)
I waited for John's play-through. I really like he takes his time to appreciate the game and is considerate to read text aloud and withhold spoilers for newcomers. Over the years since I first watched John play Silent 4 it has grown on me, I still think of it often. Probably my favourite depiction of ghosts I've ever seen.
"Konami probably had Bloober team on a leash like a rabid dog" Actually, this might surprise you, but I've been hearing/reading that it was original SH2 developers consulting on the remake who wanted more drastic changes than what we got, but Bloober team didn't want to stray too much from the original. Reminds me of how Kojima was the one who wanted MGS Twin snakes to have that more over the top cutscene direction that people have been arguing about for 20 years.
Thank you, John! Now this is going to be good. That demon dog growl type of thing, walking the trail to the cemetery was actually in OG. Pretty cool attention to detail, if you ask me. They're Momentos of the original game. Just a little heads up, if James turns his head as though he's looking at something it's useful.
im so, so excited! im one of those pesky silent hill fans who have never played any of the games and now that this one is readily available, i really want to (after a sale...)! i was really worried about the blooberness but ive heard good things and i think angela's redesign is AMAZING (shes my fave character in sh2) so im all in now!!
just started the video! taking a break from my own run. (pizza slice in one hand) I just wanted to say I'm on team nostalgia and I feel so lucky to have these remakes. I've been spending my 30s diving into things I loved as a kid and modern SH2 is a dream come true. exciting gaming culture moment!!!
I know your videos for this game have been out for a bit but I wanted to be able to binge watch this from your gameplay. LOVED your playthroughs of the original Silent Hill games and I was excited to see this remake from your perspective. Also thank you for turning off motion blur. That option always made me feel sick. The atmosphere and details look stunning so far! Thank you for posting your playthrough, John!
Yassss! So happy you're starting this! I've watched RadBrad play a bit of it and he's really enjoying it. The game looks absolutely fabulous and I love James's and Angela's portrayal so far.

Alright, yup, that encounter STILL filled me with dread, even though you see "it" all over the internet and in assorted games. Which is kinda neat, but now I'm afraid I'll have troubles sleeping.
The footprints on the wall watching John desperately search for them like 👀
I know right 😂 fun
The voice acting is different but the conversation was exactly the same. That first conversation drop kicked me back to playing this game for the first time in highschool
I respect fixing the endless locked doors problem by letting James SMASH windows in!
I can't imagine the pressure they must have felt while remaking one of the most beloved horror games of all time.
I actually love the fact that you're looking around and taking it slow!
That's why I love your playthrough, they're laid back and fun!
42:37 the Baldur's Gate 3 blood towel with 8 hp brings back crazy memories lol
I was waiting for you to play it!!! Heavy rain outside, me and my kitties in a warm bed with a 3h John Wolfe video, life's good right now!! Thank you :)
My parent's cat has the exact same black pattern over his nose, haven't seen it on another cat before
Has he ever played "Heavy Rain" the game? It just came to my mind. haha

You are blessed indeed. Imagine how it's been for those of us who knew that today was the day he would be playing this...Lol

it has taken me days to get through this part 1, taking care of my mother post mastectomy after breast cancer treatment, i don't get much free time. but thank you for the uploads, john. gives me something to temporarily take my mind off real life in little half hour bursts. but i'm a SH4 fan, too. it's a point of (playful) contention between my friends and i.
I hope your mom has a fast recovery and I hope you have time for yourself too ❤ wishing you two the best!
Or is it all... an elaborate TikTok hoax?" - James Sunderland
The setting is looking very slick and the atmosphere with the improved graphics combined with the fantastic music is very neat so far.
Ty John, I appreciate having comfy funny content like yours to hang out with
I hope y'all made it through the hurricane alright :3
@@awkwardpawsome We did, thank you!! We were very fortunate in my neck of the woods :)

I did, in fact, watch all 65 episodes of your Balder's Gate playthrough. (43:00)
Been excited for this LP since the remake was announced. Can't wait to get all your thoughts!
There sure are a lot of convenient James-sized crawlholes all over town :P It's silly but the rest of the environments are so natural that seeing such a gamey passageway made me lol every time
As soon as the music started in the opening bathroom scene up I knew I was home.
came for wife, stayed for vandalism
As an advid fan of the original, I have been super excited for this remake. But I am not going to get to play it for myself. I am glad you are playing it and you're giving me something to watch at work tonight.
Bro, I wouldnt grab that syringe let alone use it. I love the fog affects. Great remake, and Im super happy that its not complete "ass".
“Not the jukebox button” got me in a laughing fit haha.
But onto Silent Hill 2: I’ve tried two times playing the original game, but I’ve always chickened out when I got to the town, lol.
John Wolfe 2024 - "I'm a man of the cloth, white cloth"
I have no idea why this made me laugh so much but it really got me
I love how much you appreciate this genre.
I’M SO INCREDIBLY GLAD YOU’RE PLAYING THIS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"Konami probably had Bloober team on a leash like a rabid dog"
Actually, this might surprise you, but I've been hearing/reading that it was original SH2 developers consulting on the remake who wanted more drastic changes than what we got, but Bloober team didn't want to stray too much from the original.
Reminds me of how Kojima was the one who wanted MGS Twin snakes to have that more over the top cutscene direction that people have been arguing about for 20 years.
I’ve never watched Silent Hill before, so I’m a newcomer to it and excited to watch John play!
John and JazzyGuns are the ONLY people I’ve been anxiously looking forward to watching play this, and the time has finally come! LET’S GOOOOO!!!
Never thought I'd see a jazzyguns fan here but I'm also waiting for her to play it as well
@@Nate_Bradshaw23 ayoo, I didn’t expect to find another Jazzy fan here either 🤣 bang bang, gang gang!
@@donnybuoy bang bang, gang gang! Indeed 😂
Literally the two streamers i been watching for years top two and they both number 1 lol
Thank you for reminding me of JazzyGuns! 😊
I like that they didn't make the radio messages to James so completely transparent and easy to decipher.
im so, so excited! im one of those pesky silent hill fans who have never played any of the games and now that this one is readily available, i really want to (after a sale...)! i was really worried about the blooberness but ive heard good things and i think angela's redesign is AMAZING (shes my fave character in sh2) so im all in now!!
just started the video! taking a break from my own run. (pizza slice in one hand) I just wanted to say I'm on team nostalgia and I feel so lucky to have these remakes. I've been spending my 30s diving into things I loved as a kid and modern SH2 is a dream come true. exciting gaming culture moment!!!
I STILL can't get over the remakes version of Not Tomorrow in the beginning, it's such a good rendition of an all time favorite track
3 HOURS??? i am having a feast!!
Thankyou so much for this content John!!
The amount of respect I have for John Wolfe is immeasurable.
Was waiting for this upload. Hope you enjoy it. Haven’t played it yet but so far from what I’ve seen reviews have been really good.
43:02 I did, in fact, have watch all 65 videos…and happily awaited each one. 😅
IVE GOT TO BUCKLE UP FOR THIS ONE
I honestly thought you were going to finish the first "run away run away run away" message with "-Sincerely Evil."
yours and nubzombie's playthroughs are my absolute fav so far !!! thanks for being so thorough
Hey nubz being mentioned! Love his stuff. He's very passionate about SH2.
FINALLY! i waited for you to upload.
“we in silent hill now boys”
Yassss! So happy you're starting this! I've watched RadBrad play a bit of it and he's really enjoying it.
The game looks absolutely fabulous and I love James's and Angela's portrayal so far.
what i always love about watching you is that you’re a great reliable and not scared player so i know i’ll be fine when scary stuff pops up 😂 anyways ive been watching this bit by bit after work, its such a treat to see this game reimagined in HD.
2:13:59 this part where you approach you know who and slowly back away in silence is killing meee lol
Hearing James voice, I know John will do a wicked impression.
This was my first silent hill game experience! I can’t wait for the next episode!!!🎉
The Drew Gooden joke was on point.
What drew gooden joke?
The "Road Work Ahead? Yeah, I hope it does" joke.
@@mastermarkus5307 but I don't think that is specifically drew gooden's joke yes he says it but I've heard it way before I watched drew gooden it's just a pun
I'm just explaining what he the commenter was talking about. I can't say that Drew's joke was original, but that's where a lot of people will have heard it from.
@@Beaubro1224 it was Drew Gooden's vine with that joke that went viral and made Drew famous. It's definitely what John is referring to here. he said it with the same inflection.
