Deuxième Grand Solo op. 70
Anne Pustlauk, flute
Toby Sermeus, piano
2022
Tulou composed this second Grand Solo for the 1835 concours at the Paris Conservatoire. In his report for the Revue Musicale Fétis wrote on 23 August: „Mr. Tulou has done wonders this year; four of his students have received distinctions. Two prizes and two 'accessits' were given in his class. It is unfortunate that the same superiority was not found in all the wind instrument classes.“ The two price winners Jean-Michel Forestier (1er prix) and Jacques Joseph Henricet (2me prix) were relatively old (23 and 20) when they took part in the concours. The two accessits Louis-Antoine Brunot and Paul-Mérédic Constans, both aged 14, were considerably younger. They all had to play the same Grand Solo, a very vivid piece in G major, full of virtuosic passages.
The five-keyed flute used in the recording was made by Clair Godfoy aîné around 1832 (more about the flute here: www.flautorama.... The piano is a 1829 Pleyel.
Very impressive playing! Amazing!
Bravo! Merci
Great pieces here on youtube, thanks again!
Wonderful. Thank you.
Highly enjoyable, both technically and, more importantly, musically. Thank you for showing what the early flute can do and sound like. (Only play the simple system for klezmer.)
