I'll always remember this ad. It aired in the first commercial break following the victory. These kinds of ads excel at making an immediate emotional connection with the viewership and can forever associate the advertiser with happy memories. That said, they would have to have had another commercial prepared that didn't refer to the Jays as "world champs", probably more of a general "congrats on a great season" ad. They bought the airtime, so a Coke ad was going to play there regardless.
I remember it as well. I was only twelve years old but I still remember the excitement (and I vaguely remember '92). Finding this video brought back a ton of nostalgia! SkyDome, Blue Jays and Always Coca-Cola!! And this year, we have the Raptors :). It would have been spectacular if Coke released a jingle for the Raps.
This is something that every self-published author who wants to make trailers for their book should watch. It is beyond easy to use all of these techniques in After Effects. Kind of amazing really, even for 1993.
I was 7 years old on the living room floor watching borefully this thing called baseball. Dad is a tough no nonsense old school drunk carpenter. Who rarely shows emotion. When joe carter line drived that home run I seen how excited my dad got yelling and jumping around the house like a kid. Right then and there my love for baseball began. How could a sport do this to a grown man I thought. Well fast forward some years and Iam 34. I recently explained to my mother about when my love of the game started. With joe carters home run and how dad reacted. My mother replied oh sounds like your father he probably had a lot of money on that game.
I’d really like to see the alternate commercial that they would’ve aired if the Phillies won. You just know that they made both and aired the commercial for whomever won
Coca Cola has historically done some amazing commercials moments after a huge sporting event. My personal favorite was throughout the 2010 olympics, where they said "show them whos game this is", and that changed to "now they know whose game...."
I would have loved to have seen something like this had the Expos won '94 :( Also, this same jingle was used in Coke's regular commercials at the time, with different lyrics of course. There's loads of videos on youtube of it. However, Coke also had an ad set to this jingle with generic lyrics about baseball. "Whenever there's a hit, there's always a run!" and such. I can't find that on youtube though!
Since this jingle, at least this version of it, sounds like Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" I now have a parody to be used for this promo: "You Give Coke a Bad Taste."
Ben Schyan Probably have to be an employee deep with in the Coca Cola company, who has access to the company's video vault. And that's provided the video still exists - there is a good possibility the Phillies version was destroyed upon the Blue Jays victory.
I love these soda commercials back then especially the coke commercials they always made me want one.

Phillies almost won

Mitch Williams shook off the pitch! Instead Joe walk-off taters for the crown.
This was shown after the victory memories that will last a lifetime
I was in the navy at the time, and we were sailing off the coast of Puerto Rico when Joe hit the homer. Great memories.
I love this tune!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting!!
I like to play the guitar with this tune:)

brec7 If the 1994 Baseball Strike didn't happen, I believe that the Atlanta Braves would've won the World Series that year.

No wonder I had a massive sugar addiction as a kid and was always loyal to coke lol

damn it would have sucked if they lost
who is amell
The Flashek Stephen Amell; he plays Arrow, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, he’s from Toronto and a huge Blue Jays fan
I wonder what would have happened if the Phillies won.....I wonder if there was a separate commercial created for them.... #alwayswonderalwayscocacola
Yes. They had a prefab commercial for either scenario.
Skull10 is there anyway to see the other commercial?
