    We've read some comments that the 75" model of the U7G, which isn't available yet, will have an IPS panel. Once the TV is released and we can get official confirmation, we will update the written review!

    3:38 apples to apples, the 65" U8G has 360 dimming zones, which is a big difference. Comparing same size TVs would give a better review because companies put variances in different sizes.

      @@ArigmaTrickster pretty good, still figuring things out. Had to turn the backlight down to 50% for SDR content; the TV is crazy bright & I was getting eye strain from it.
      SDR/HD content looks good color wise - reds really pop - but the quality of the panel also makes it more evident that you’re not watching 4K content. I’m talking watching a broadcast game in 1080i or 720p over an antenna, etc. 4K content looks awesome, just not enough of it yet.
      The other thing is figuring out the right settings for motion. I applied the TCON update & manually set the motion sliders. You still see some artifacts if someone gestures hands really quickly or when there is text scrolling on a ticker, need to see if I can eliminate that (or just have to live with it).
      On the gaming side, I had to wait on a longer HDMI 2.1 cable to hook up my Xbox Series X. Got it tweaked so it gets all green check marks on the display test. Still need to figure out some of the HDR stuff though.
      For instance a game like NBA2K22 switches the TV to HDR mode when you launch it, but the colors look all washed out, etc. Whereas the colors on the dashboard are vibrant & awesome when it’s not using HDR. I need to figure that aspect out…obviously I don’t want a game to look worse by using advanced features of the TV.

    I don't know, both are very similar. In Canada the U7G 75'' is priced similarly to the U8G 65'', so I consider both of them good options.

    Really wish you guys would compare apples to apples and also different sizes of the same model. Every review I've seen of yours says something like, for instance - we reviewed the 55", but the 65" performance should be similar. How can that be when in this case the 65" U8G has 360 dimming zones that each cover half as much real estate as the 55" (twice the density)? Only way it could be worse, is if the processor can't keep up - and that would be nice info to know.

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  2 роки тому +3

      Hey! We appreciate your feedback and definitely understand what you're saying. We did want to clarify this a little bit more though if you'll indulge us :)
      So despite the extra backlight zones, we still expect it to perform the same. This is because processing is typically more important than the actual number of zones. TVs usually use the same processor for their bigger sizes of the same models and it's almost always the bottleneck.

    • @realitybites8558
      @realitybites8558 2 роки тому +6

      @@RTINGSdotcom I here ya, but - If the processor is really a "bottleneck", why would a manufacturer bother putting in more zones if the processor really can't handle it and if it didn't provide better performance as a result of doubling the zone density? Only real way to know is to test a 55" and 65" apples to apples, side by side. Haven't seen anyone do it yet with these.

      Depends on the variant.
      I'm my region (Saudi Arabia) there is the u7wf with 60hz and only hdmi 2.0 and there is the u7gq with 120hz and hdmi 2.1 ports that support VRR. The u7gq costs more as well. I am not even sure if the u7gq has the same specs as the u7g that is sold in the US and shown in the video as I couldn't find the detailed specs of the u7gq and the stand is different but I am willing to buy it as the pricing is right and the marketed specs are in line with the US variant u7g.
      Totally different TV's with almost the same name, extremely confusing.
      Edit: I have bought the u7gq and returned it, it doesn't support 4k120 and only supports 120hz in 1080i (interlaced) mode even though the product page on Hisense Middle East website mentions HDMI 2.1 and a 120hz panel. Very misleading marketing.

I'm almost sold to that 65" U7G. I have a TCL 55R625 right now, so I'm just wanting the 120hz and smoother framerate anyway. The U8G is at least slightly better in pretty much every way. It has better reflection handling and higher peak brightness, so it can more easily overcome glare in a bright room. The U8G also has a better local dimming feature, better black uniformity, and the unit we bought is more accurate out of the box. Finally, the U8G has a faster response time and a slightly wider color gamut. So, colors should 'pop' more and look better out of the box. Sports should also look smoother, and if you have lots of light in your room, the TV will handle that better. Plus, if you're in a dark room, the local dimming feature and better black uniformity should leave to a nicer picture!

    We bought an H8F a couple of years ago (literally at Best Buy as people were first starting to lock down). Looks great most of the time, but we've had serious issues: 1. local dimming was horrible... major blooming. Turned it off but... 2. when a scene is dark, the whole screen dims to the point you can hardly see anything.... also... 3. Android TV is very laggy... sometimes I'll choose something only to wait 20 seconds... 30 seconds ... longer for the TV to acknowledge I've selected anything. Other times, it never processes the action. 4. Oftentimes, the TV seems to need to "warm up" its internet connection. We'll start watching something, which will drop frames, freeze, stutter... like it's buffering... but eventually content will play smoothly.
    (We went into the dev settings and turned off animations, which helped some with issue #3, but didn't make it smooth by any means.)
    Are these issues present in newer Hisense TVs? Did we get a lemon? We're looking to replace the H8F with a ~$1000 TV: TCL 6-series, Samsung Q70, Sony X85J, Hisense U8G, other? The Hisense does really well in reviews, but we don't want to be burned again.

Hisense realibility & quality over all sucks. 6 friends & 2 family members have owned them & I know lots about budget Tv's & what they do to cut cost. Buy the sony X90J & skip the others for $1099 nobody else is giving what the X90J offers for the money & quality on top of it. Sure ever set has lemons but hisense is now up there in price with sony & your not getting the same quality product with Hisense period.

      I know right, I have an older Hisense 65r5 (Australia) and for the price I paid several years ago it still holds up amazingly, to the point I often recommend this brand to my friends as a budget option.
      But to release the exact same model names here (U7G & U8G) with downgraded hardware such as removing HDMI 2.1 (Which means no 4k120 input at all!) is just atrocious.
      If they used a different model name I would be more okay with it, but in keeping it identical just feels misleading. At a higher price too!
      USA 65" U8G seems to be around $1200USD ($1630AUD) while here in Australia the downgraded version goes for $1700USD ($2300AUD)

    Why wouldn't you test the 65" U8G with the 360 dimming zones. Wouldnt you expect better contrast?

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  2 роки тому +1

      We try to test the size that is most commonly purchased. While the trend is still moving larger, generally 55" TVs are the most popular sizes.
      Dimming zones alone though don't tell the full story. The software matters a lot too. However, with more dimming zones we would hope to see improved local dimming.
      As for the contrast, it's a little more complicated. Indirectly, yes, it can improve contrast. If a TV doesn't have enough zones to dim around dark objects, then in mixed scenes, the zones simply won't turn off. If a different size TV has more zones, it might be better capable of dimming the backlight behind dim objects, thereby improving contrast.

Hisense is a budget TV company that's prices are now rivaling the big 3 & their quality & dependability is so far off its not funny. I love your work and use your site regularly. However I do not understand how you can give the u7g such a high rating when it has such a major flaw. The red ghosting is terrible, with vrr it is even worse. I went through 3 units in Canada and they all displayed it very prominently.
    A quick search of various forums shows this is a fairly common issue, and even in your review you mention it. I just simply do not understand how it could get even a fair rating with such a issue.

      This isn't just Hisense... It's a common problem with all new TVs supporting HDMI 2.1 VRR. A few brands have released firmware updates to fix the issue. I'm sure Hisense will, too, at some point.

    Looks as if Hisense is using the same selling strategy for the U8g as it did for the H9g; availability .

      The Hisense U6G could be a good option for you depending on the size you're after!

    I was torn between Vizio 65INCH OLED and X90J. In the end the U8 just checked all the boxes features wise for movies and games and going from a 2018 TCL 6-Series it'll be a huge upgrade regardless. And I'll have money for an Atmos soundbar.

      I recently replaced my 2019 TCL Series 6 with the U8G and so far I'm very happy with it. The Android OS is a bit wonky in places but I can live with that.
