Rust to Lust! Amiga A2000 Upgrade Time!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 сер 2024
- In the previous video I successfully got my Amiga 2000 working properly. In this video we're going to look at some upgrades for it, and also some steps to make it look as close to new as possible including cleaning, retr0brighting (vapor method) and a vinyl wrap for the case.
There's quite a few montages in this, so hopefully you wont get montage'd out!

Great job, another A2000 well saved. The keyboard surely has PBT made keys, except the space bar (longer keys sometimes are cheaper to be made in ABS instead)! PBT won't go yellow!
Oh, interesting, I'm going to pin this comment!
Interesting I wonder if this is why most of the Macintosh portable keyboards have yellow spacebars.
Could be! Seems to be fairly common
I made sure I covered all my A2000 keyboards with plastic wrap to save myself unnecessary work later on. Good to see you not submerge but suspend the parts during retrobrighting. There is spray paint available to color match the case.
Fantastic work Rob. I have now ordered the HDMI board!
I had a job to do a game conversion from PC to Amiga using an Amiga 2000. I just remember this machine being so so so slow to compile. If you were accustomed to PC hard disk speed, Amiga felt slow.
I guess depending on what the PC was it might - in stock form it’s the same speed as the A1000, the A500 and the A600. I suspect a lot of people added accelerators to this though
I am a new viewer got hooked on some of your earlier videos. Great work thank you for sharing.
Thank you, and welcome!
ECS 2MB upgrade please!!!!. I did not know about the cover for the box. Very neat thank you.
ECS upgrade is on the way, waiting for the parts! Glad you liked the video
Great to find out about that vinyl wrap. I’m about to be doing this same project on a pair of 2000’s. Gotta order some wrap for them.
Yeah it’s great, even has a similar texture to it, unless you look really closely you’d never know…. And even then it’s hard to tell
Yeah I’m glad I just saw this! I’ve been trying to sort out how to strip down, powder coast and color match my case. Mine has some rust spots around the top and I wonder if I need to address those before applying a vinyl wrap or if it would be fine to just leave it.
Unless it makes the surface uneven then just clean it and you’ll be fine
Cool. The only bummer is it costs almost as much as the wrap itself to ship it to USA 😆 oh well still cheaper than powder coating I would assume.
@sideburn true, and less hassle once you get it
It’s really nice to see someone else use sacrificial electrolysis to combat rust, for reference Stephen Leary he of 'TerribleFire' is very a much am advocate of this I’m sure he won’t mind me sharing. And those gasses will contain chlorine so the please do in a an open ventilated area.
Thanks - it’s also much more fun this way, and yeah I forgot about the chlorine! Good point
@@RobSmithDev how could Chlorine be produced when you used Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3)... You're producing CO2 not Cl2.. You'd get chlorine if you were using Salt (NaCl).
I suspect there’s a small amount of chlorine in the water, it was tap water, although I’d admit it would be very little
White vinegar works well too (at least better than wd-40).
Thanks for the video Rob. I've just ordered the wrap for my 2000 too, so it was good to see it being fitted by you. Do you have a specific tips that I should consider?
Just take your time with it. The instructions are really good and if you make a mistake you can peel it back off. It was much easier than I thought it would be
Can this version be obtained fully populated? RGBtoHDMI for Amiga 2000 v2.2.
Try the contact form on the website, they may be able to,if not they may be able to suggest where to get it from
Hey Rob! Where did you get the 3D printed RGBtoHDMI bracket from?
My bad, just added it to the description (I designed them)
Cheers Rob.....but it was the RGBtoHDMI bracket I was asking about.....although the SCSI adapters will be useful because I also have the same SCSI card and a BlueSCSI device too.
....now added to the video description
can I send you mine 😜
