Unboxing the new Luna Ludicrous Sur-Ron XX, you'll notice that everything looks identical to the already popular Sur Ron X. Aside from a Luna Cycle logo on the controller and a XX sticker on the battery, the bike looks exactly like a regular Sur Ron electric bike. What Luna Cycle has done from the factory is modified the controller to offer 150 peak amps instead of the stock 80 amps that comes on the regular Sur-Ron.
The result is an awesome upgrade! The Sur-Ron XX Ludicrous has a lot more torque and although it has the same top speed, it accelerates to its top speed much quicker. This is the fastest Sur Ron electric dirt bike that you can buy directly from the factory. A modified Sur Ron with an ASI Controller and battery would indeed be faster than this XX model but that would require a lot more money and modification to the bike. This ebike showed up at the doorstep plug and play ready to ride with no modification necessary.
The Ludicrous XX was released in 2020 by Luna Cycle in a batch of 100 units to start and they sold out quick. Hopefully we will see the Ludicrous XX Sur Ron being offered on a regular basis in the future.

Thanks for reviewing the differences, I just got my xx with no prior experience on the standard model. Great to hear from someone who’s ridden both
I just rode my Sur Ron X today places I would NEVER have gone before... I am so glad I have one -may just do an upgrade now.
😀dang! You seem thrilled and impressed! In fact you said at one point “man this is awesome” which tells me all I need to know if it excites someone like you. Thanks for the great video!
Wow, nice vide.. good guys, I recommand test one electric scooter! Have a nice day!
Freaking amazing! The future is NOW!
Would certainly like the full review with some mods done to it!
Appreciate the video, I'm pulling the trigger on a regular one to mod one cause of your videos, thanks for the insight.
Just do it! I’ve modified mine and absolutely don’t regret it.
The algo brought me here for some random reason and I'm glad it did. What an awesome bike
Very cool man? thanks for the review!!
Looks like fun! Would have loved to seen how it took the jumps. Subscribed!
Yes!! They definitely need to make more of these😁😁
Tucker I was hoping Luna would allow you to do a test on this version. I know that Jackson Edwards (RIP) and team had been working on the controller and battery BMS modifications for the past two years. Nice to see it come to fruition, but more importantly having an actual racer/rider do an initial test. I laughed as I saw you pass the ICE bikes. Granted it wasn't a race, but watching them 'sit down' most of the time while on the track versus you standing all of the time says it all for me. LOL I like all of the things you mention, faster out of corners and stronger regen. Can only imagine what a slightly larger rear sprocket would do or even be necessary for where you were testing. Because I have modified my SR so much (suspension/tires/rims/rotors/bars, etc.) I would not be willing to purchase the entire bike just to get the controller/battery mod. BUT should Luna offer the controller and battery I would seriously consider that purchase.
Fun to hear you giggling like a 12 year old boy on his first Sting Ray! Makes me know you really loved the ride. Take care and thanks.
That was funny.
Dude, you got passed by a mtn bike powered by a sewing machine. 8-)
Wow, nice vide.. good guys, I recommand test one electric scooter! Have a nice day!
@Mark Kitaoka Haha! Thanks Mark! Your bike is already set up perfectly for sure. I know you'll get a kick out of the extra snap when you get on one.
That thing flyes👏👏
I just want to say I love your videos
@rockefeller13 Thank you! I really appreciate that.
Mate, dat was a very good bike review!! Now datz wat you call a review!! Haha! LoL!! Awesome riding brO, and yes it's a very nice sur-ron! Definately looks very kwikK!! Haha!! YesSiRr!!
Very cool video.
Nice video!
Wow, nice vide.. good guys, I recommand test one electric scooter! Have a nice day!
Someone said they recently sold some more xx version for black friday... although all I've seen listed is the normal surron x controller listed for sale... unless you just have to buy a normal one and hope they send you a xx... I just ordered the talaria... and I think I'm going to be very pleased with the bike... I was thinking of going with a sabvoton 200a controller after I have some fun on the stock bike.
Will you be making a follow up on the drill one??
Do a test like on you sur ron vs the ktm freeride.
XX vs KTM freeride would be awesome!
They should just play this on loop on a huge screen on the front of Luna Cycle 24/7...😅👍
@BUD WHITE 👍👍
Agreed... These bikes ABSOLUTELY ROCK.
Damm I wish I didn’t miss out on one of these
Wow I wish I wasn't poor! That bike is awesome!
Damn. I need one
That moment in the dirt bike rider's mind on the track.... "What the F**K?!
😂😂. “This little Electric bike just smoked me” Whaaaaat....
Impressive bike, make a great short track power unit that motor combo. Sabaton controller seems comparable to these amps. 40mph bike?
I want one !
I'd have to pipe a 4 stroke soundtrack in my helmet..
Sounds like a dentist visit
🤣
Rapid 🔥🔥🔥😍
And take note that the battery % display is inaccurate until the bms relearns the battery pack. This happened do to the modifications done. Just have to cycle the battery about 10x also resetting the display when fully charged and fully discharged helps relearn faster
@Mr E Copy that! I haven't noticed it being inaccurate on mine but that's good info. Thanks.
Good to see competent people hacking/modifying the controller and BMS. Maybe luna will offer reman controllers and batteries, send your X in get a XX back? And maybe licence the mod out to other reputable dealers? I'd like to see some dyno readouts on that bike too...
I'm pretty sure they did the same thing that they did with the bbshd Ludacris controller which was to install a shunt that tricks the controller into thinking it's only putting out half of the power it really is putting out. The bbshd Ludacris V2 is a completely reworked controller though and that thing is bad ass so hopefully they follow suit with the surrons and make a completely reworked version. Thing I don't like about Luna is they decide to make stuff like this and then either don't ever release it or tell you that you can't buy it and have to buy the whole bike to get it smh.
I have been looking at these sur rons for a long time. I ended up buying a ‘07 Yamaha WR250F for $4K in about as new condition as you can get.
@Jacob Keller Right on! I owned an 07 WR several years back. It's a solid all around choice and something you'll be able to cover a lot of ground on comfortably.
Sur rons are great i ride mine everywhere ya couldnt even think of on a dirt bike thats the cool thing about it smashes all the green lanes where i live
Nice video man, I can't help but wonder if the motor will give issues over heating during a long hill climb on a hot summers day? Is it just coincidence that Luna realeased them in the middle of winter? in limited numbers?
Nah should be fine. People have been using the ASI 8000 and 72v litespeed batteries for a while. And thats even stronger with more power than the XX. And no body has issues with the motor.
Just imagining what these (and bigger bikes) will be like with another 50% and then 100% reduction in weight per kW is mind-blowing. It can't come soon enough.
@EV Bike Dude Can't wait! 👍
You already can't hardly keep the back wheel planted. Less weight will make that even more of an issue.
They did the x last year, so they'll probably make a xxx next year lol
Nice!! I'll Take your Old One lol
Haven’t ridden mine much yet as it’s been cold and wet , but it sounds like it’s fast
Looks like a blast price point ?$$👍👍
What’s your range on the ludicrous xx
What did you pay all in ?
Hell yeah 💯👍👍😁
Sweet vids mate i just seen your Czech Drill One review what do you prefer out of that bike and the Sur Ron ludicrous and why?
@bobby gee Thanks! I'm planning to do a video on that topic. Stay tuned!
@@ElectricCycleRider Sounds good man i look forward to watching it!
Is the suspension new or same as original
That track looks like IMI in Colorado.
some chassis mods should have been included: Tires and Suspension revalve.
Eh, no point. Every person has different tastes and different weights different types of riding and style. You'll just end up changing it anyway. Did the same thing to my factory edition KTM changed it all right off the bat. Plus Luna Cycle is not a company I would want to do my suspension work. Just to add to the price and end up changing it again.
@@FarmerFpv Very good point my friend
Wow, nice vide.. good guys, I recommand test one electric scooter! Have a nice day!
Can you do a video about all street legal offroad ebikes ??
I just wish the battery display was accurate. I added a volt meter to mine to get an idea of where its really at.
Man these Ebikes are getting fast. When you can keep up with a dirt bike?? DANG!
@Anthony Perkins They're getting there!
Need some kind of noisemaker (horn?) so when you are passing somebody, they know you are coming. On a gas bike you can just rev it with clutch in to tell the slow guys "I'm coming through"
Would really like to know if brakes and other parts are made for this extra stress on electric bikes like this one. Since besides the enforced core everything else seems like medicore bicycle parts
A lot of people just upgrade the brakes and suspension.
I feel that I need to treat myself to one of these
What did you do to deserve to be treated
Satsified
Damn..bruh...
Sell that buggah to me...LOL
BLESS
Does luna still sell these Ludacris Editions
A BUY link is what we need :D
They only made 100 of them so you can't buy one
Wow, nice vide.. good guys, I recommand test one electric scooter! Have a nice day!
It would sound really cool if you put a card and a clothes pin and it would have a sound like a motor
Thank you for this test! Are you sure the stock BMS allows only 80A? I thought it was 90 (60V*90A = 5400W).
The X is 60v32.5ah I believe
@@dagconst1 They've added a couple of cells probably as there's still some room for more cells. But I was wondering about the stock battery max discharge amps, thought it was 90A.
@@MTO_Brothers stock battery bms is limited to 85amps actually and then it cuts out. That's continuous not burst. Also keep in mind the 60v is nominal it's actually 67+ volts fully charged. The surron is only 5kw stock not the over 5kw some people state. And the stock battery bms bypassed can output 120-150amps continuous but it's not good for it and gets hot. I suspect Luna did the same here that they did to the original Ludacris bbshd controller which was just install a shunt to trick the esc into thinking it's outputting half of what it really outputs hence why it's outputting 150amps max (stock is 85amsp max)
@@SpreadingKnowledgeVlogs yes 5kw is what is said on their official website. Although even with a BMS bypass 150A is a bit much for these cells. I had run a bypassed battery at 8kw but it’s not optimal. Even though the battery doesn’t heat much.
my Sur ron killah forks wore out in 400 miles -
no replacement parts/ dampers available - not happy
Same thing happened to me, but that is expected with cheap $300 forks. I think the suspension once upgraded changes the whole bike
Hearing that is exactly what I feared. If the bike has the power, it will need better suspension to handle the abuse it will get. Ditto for frame strength and other things. If you keep going through that process of upgrading and revising, the end result after many design iterations will eventually be something like the modern 220-lb dirt/enduro bikes we all use.
i changed fork oil - tried 4 different weights - helped a small bit - fork holds only 6 ounces - fork has locktite on inner threads - Not good - rear shock is not working well now - have not changed oil in it yet - super low bar clamp makes good arm position Very hard - 6 to 7 inch bar rise is what i need - im 5,8 tall - rest of bike is Nice - fast enough frame looks strong - wheels ok - fix these 2 things its a nice bike -
@@suzyamerica4679 read my new post
@@GroovyVideo2 Hope all that stuff works for ya. Whoa, I just saw the ads for the Ubco FXR1 .. starting to see some convergence between bikes like that, like the upgraded Sur Ron XX, and like the Vector Vortex.
I think Luna putting the controller and battery in is enough to make me want to get one.
Did they happen to list the parts they sourced for the build?
They're not necessarily any parts that are different from this bike versus the regular x model. All Luna did was a battery (most likely BMS) modification and a controller modification. There is a group on Facebook that is working on replicating the XX power for anyone that would like to.
What is the name of the group doing this on Facebook?
It's got nothing on a drill one from the Czech Republic but at a most 7k price difference
I just asked luna cycle if they plan on making any more and they said "we dont currently have any plans on making any more anytime soon".... This is really starting to piss me off. why are they sleeping over there at luna. Ive had so much respect for them, but they havent put out any new information in like a year, and no plans on making anything soon, just the same stock bike that was manufactured like 3 years ago. really starting to aggravate me because i want to buy something like the XX for this spring and cant wait any longer.
What was the price
I have the Ludacris model and I’m having constant problems with it shutting off for no reason and won’t go again. I’ve seen other Ludacris models have the same problem. Has anyone figured out how to solve it?
How much more compared to the stock SurRon ? And how much of the range is affected since the battery is only slightly modified ?
$3600 for x ,$4100 for xx
@@dagconst1 Judging from this video, plenty of bang for the buck.
@@dagconst1 I wish it was still that price, just paid almost 1000 more
Next question is how much faster does the battery drain? Is there a mapping switch to conserve power on longer rides.
@Kevin Moore Good question! Doing some testing on that and waiting for some warmer days to come to a conclusion. I'll post what I come up with eventually.
@@ElectricCycleRider what are the results on the battery drainage looking into getting an XX myself
Love the video but I feel l ike you missed a few things when going over the XX.
The XX is NOT A FACTORY MODIFIED BIKE. This is a dealer modified bike. Luna, the only "official" US dealer, has modified the battery BMS and the controller the get the speed. With all the benefits there are a few downfalls. There have been quite a few people on the forums that are having issues with their bike leaving them stranded with the display showing 40%. Luna has said that the battery needs a few cycles to calibrate the battery % remaining display, which works for a few people but other have gone through 20-30 battery cycles and are still having issues.
I think the reason they only made 100 XX units is because they are still working out the kinks. 🤷♂️
I have ridden my stock Sur Ron side by side we the the XX and while it has more torque it is not a HUGE difference. My buddy and I on our stock Sur Rons in the trails had zero issues keeping up with the XX.
Just like with dirt bikes and motorcycles, if you want to go faster it's easier (and more reliable) to get a bike that was built to do what you need. So many issues can arise when you start modifying stuff. If you like tinkering then go for it, but I prefer to hop on and ride any time I want with zero issues. The stock Sur Ron is a highly capable bike for the price
@blaze806 Fair! Thanks for bringing up these points and keeping me honest. You're right in that it is not modded by Sur-Ron, it is indeed modded by Luna. Apologies if I didn't make that clear in the video.
I can't directly speak to why they only did 100 to start but my bet is that it was more of a marketing tactic than a quality control issue. They did a limited release of a Ludicrous model a couple years ago as well. It gives some exclusivity to some of their customers. Once again, just my opinion.
As for the side-by-side comparison, it's good to hear your real-world experience. I don't think I'd keep up with myself on the XX if I were (somehow) also on an X... if that makes sense. You're right in that the stock Sur-Ron X is a highly capable bike for the price. I would personally spend the extra $450ish dollars to have the added power of the XX if given the option though.
Yes, I do agree that if you want to go faster more reliably, it does make sense to get a bike that does what you need. If you're looking for high performance and trying to go fast and have range, then a Sur-Ron is not the bike for you. Lots of people simply like the novelty of these things and like to try something different.
Thanks again for the note! Appreciate your attentiveness. 👍
I have an XX and an X, and there is a huge difference in acceleration, especially from 0-20mph.
I have the x controller and owned it 2 years now its a beast of a bike, its stock i love it! But i can see the diffrence in the xx a mile off beleive me now if i was riding the xx and someone was on the x they wouldn't catch me and thats just by watching this video!!! Body weight is key for the sur rons 14 stone men will make this sur ron look slow! My friends 11 stone and my sur ron is super fast with him riding, why dont people just buy the sur ron storm if they want more power
How is this bike for taller people with long legs? Looks ridiculously cramped.
Want one 🤙
Wow, nice vide.. good guys, I recommand test one electric scooter! Have a nice day!
Would you put the gates belt drive on this bike or no?
@SportscarNetwork It depends on the application for the rider but I personally would not because I mainly ride off-road and would be concerned for rocks/pebbles/debris interfering with the belt.
Damn Latvia!!!! We dont have this bikes! :(
Really? They’re available in Europe!
Will they sell the controller?
It's the same controller, just reprogrammed.
I’m in Canada 🇨🇦 how much did you pay ci am 235 dressed let me know top speed is how much send me place to buy in Ottawa Ontario great video 💥👍💥
Its a small bike.. you are big .. get a ktm freeride e latest model . Or zero fx for long range.. and even then ..
Where is this in Colorado? I'm in denver...I want to go!
It's IMI up in Frederick
@@griffithd05 sweet! Thanks
Do you know if they changed the controller or modded it? It would be hard for them to mod it themselves and would be cheaper for them to replace it. The batter must have a new BMS with more output, but that will destroy it a lot quicker. Wish they would sell the Sur Ron with no battery and controller and just a rolling chassis with the motor. That would be the sh*t! BAC 4000 & a 72v battery would make that thing scream. That was still impressive, you were ripping dude!
They used all stock Sur Ron X parts and just modified and controller and battery
I don't know why Sur-ron doesnt just unlock the bike with a controller and battery that would push it the level of the BAC/Nucular controllers and a 72V battery and up the price for that model.
Price? Can I buy one?
What sensation it gives you more like mountain bike or motocross ?
@Jonathan Attal I think the Sur Ron bikes all ride very much like a DH or freeride mountain bike. Just with a throttle and extra weight.
Got one of them. Now I just need an awesome track like that somewhere near Houston. Anybody from HTX here?

Great but expect more problems more quickly
Anyone know how to do it
I wonder how the higher amp draw will affect battery life?
It definitely has a shorter distance.
A regular Sur Ron X will get several more miles compared to this XX.
@@yotarocket depends on how you ride it. It’s not because you have more that you need to use the full power at all times 😉
If you use more you will have less .... lol , if that makes any sense
@@dagconst1 It depends, with a Bac controller (or a Nuclear), you have more power but also better efficiency, you end up getting more autonomy, thus more of everything 😀
How does the acceleration compare to the electric motion epure race?
@Rorieram I'd like to ride them back-to-back to give a confident answer but the EM has more snap off of the bottom and signs off sooner where the Sur Ron XX continues to build a little bit more torque/top speed.
@@ElectricCycleRider Thanks for the reply.
I have an EM. Love it! Interested in riding the XX. I'd like to compare them on rutty hill climbs
@@Rorieram Right on! The XX is a fun bike but it will be no match for your EM on rutty hill climbs. You've got the right bike for that environment!
Looks awesome, can it pull my 220 lb rig around? And more importantly can the suspension handle the weight? Serious questions..
Notice how no one mentions range? I'm a 190 lb guy and a bit older. I'll ride at around 40% throttle in relatively flat conditions in dry Arizona. Can someone give me an approximate range?
To be honest brother I’m 220 and do a ton of enduro riding on mine stock setup my best run was 46 miles with 37% battery left I don’t have any regen on mine but my average miles will usually be 27 I can’t imagine how the XX is I did test ride one today at Luna and totally worth the upgrade they did tell me it eats battery and recommended the one I need to get
I'm not sure what the price is, but I would think it's closer to their previous Ludicrous than a normal X. I still think I would prefer to get an X and ASI controller/Battery. Would be awesome if Sur-Ron ever offered their bikes without batteries for a greatly discounted price, God knows how many I would buy lol.
Also not surprised the terrible tires only showed how bad they are with even more power. :)
It's only a $400 up charge over the standard X model
@@blaze806 That's actually not bad at all. Any info on what batteries are used? Personally not a fan of the batteries currently in the pack right now so if they changed them out to something that'll last then $400 is bangin.
There is not one different or new piece on the XX model, I'm pretty sure all of it is done with software
@@blaze806 Not possible. The X Battery Pack(Pana PF Cells) can at max put out 120amps and BMS limited to 80 as well as controller too. You can't just change code and change physical things like that.
@@toybotgaming9634 people have already torn the XX battery apart, it is exactly the same as the X battery. There have only been BMS modifications and possible shunt modifications
