Thanks for posting this. I've trained off and on for a long time. Early on in my training, there was no curriculum in the BJJ classes I attended in the US. You showed up to class on the first day and maybe learned Spider Guard, then got smashed by blues and purples for a while. If you were crazy, you went back the next day. When I started back again after a lay off in 2014, I was at a Gracie Barra school and they had the fundamentals class, attendance cards and curriculum. I really preferred that method. Now flash forward to 2022, I'm at a Gracie CTC and they also have a Fundamentals class called Gracie Combatives with the cards and curriculum. I had wondered what happened between the time I first started training 1997 to 2014 and where the fundamentals class, cards and curriculum came from. Based on this video, it sounds like it was invented by the Valente Brothers in 1999, approved by Helio Gracie and later picked up by other members of the family and used at Gracie Barra and Gracie Academy schools? If the Valente brothers are the creators of this method in the US. Thank you. It's given this old man another shot at training Gracie Jiu Jitsu again.
Great video! I'm very grateful to have found our Fort Lauderdale school and train with Bruce. He's an amazing instructor and we have a very knowledgeable and passionate family of students who have been so helpful with moving through the curriculum and passing the blue-belt test in June. Thank you Pedro and Gui!
I've been training a couple of months each year at Valente Brothers since 2009. Even before and after that time I've trained at a few other schools. But, in my humble opinion, as a Valente Bros. blue belt, you have the most systematic and progressive approach to the Gracie Juijitsu. I have also noticed a few changes and improvements in your program through the last seven years, and to me, even though you are deeply rooted in the Helio Gracie system, you are constantly looking into ways and methods of developing that for the people that need it the most, i.e. as self defense techniques for the common people on the streets today! So, good luck and keep up the good work!

@@tomedwards3767 I completely agree with your, as long as you are wearing the academy patch, where you bought your gi from does not matter. In the end this is the same line age, Jiu-Jitsu politics is so non-sense sometimes.
@@tomedwards3767 it's not bullshit. If you play on a soccer or baseball team doesn't everyone wear the same uniform?? You should wear the gi they want you to wear. You are taking class from them, so wear what they require and buy it from them and support your academy.

Heck even Gracie Academy adapted its current methodology of teaching (group class methods) from Valente Brothers.
Very interesting. Thank you.

Hi, have you guys ever collaborated with Renzo or Igor's jiu jitsu academy?

I have the standard white Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy uniform, is that acceptable to train in class with?
The Brothers are affiliates of the Academy so they will allow it. However, you will have to wear our uniform eventually.
now the politics of that is bullshit, should be allowed to wear any kind of uniform

It's not a team sport, its a self development and self protection program, any gi should be acceptable or else it has a different motive.
Is there a Texas School?
