Thank you! I've been a Master Carpenter, Cabinet Maker and Home Builder for over fifty years. I learned several things from your video today even though I've used glue guns for some years but never like I saw today. Thanks D
+Woodomain - Jeremy Broun: Exactly. What a peaceful and appropriate tone of voice can make! I wish you were the guy over my shoulder providing tips and advice while I work.
+LiPe VoLcOm Yes, that's one of the uses that was on my radar. I have also seen many small circuit boards attached with just hot glue. No need for screws, pillars etc. And it insulates. Great stuff. ATB Rob
+LiPe VoLcOm Hotglue doesn't actually flow all that well, it might form an air gap around components and allow water to come in or condensate but never to come out. It's rarely an issue. But i recommend clear fingernail varnish instead or as an extra preparation step.
For anyone wondering why I say the hotmelt bond is temporary yet use it on vinyl motorcycle seats I should have clarified that in my experience over many years, the bond is temporary on wood in a damp environment because wood absorbs moisture and shrinks and expands and there is little fibre penteration of the glue but with a fabric backed vinyl cloth a different glue stick is used and the glue penterates into the fabric weave. My cafe racer motorycle seat is still intact well over ten years on.
Hello Sam - I hope the gluegun manufacturers consider I am doing them a favour by stating the truth about longterm bond for wood but in using its weakness as a strength in lateral thinking!
Jeremy, for years I had little respect or use for glue guns and thought they were for ladies craft projects. That was because I never used one. When I was making underwater video camera housings I did a lot of experimenting and I found hot glue was one of the only adhesives that would attach pvc parts to polyethylene . Like you, I found it was perfectly suited for prototypes. In particular, with small items that might need to be taken apart, when the item is frozen, the glued parts separate much easier than with other glues. There are also glue sticks that use different temperatures. Finally, if you have a glue stick, a candle can be used to heat the tip when in an area without electricity to heat the glue so you can still make repairs in primitive conditions.
All my years wood working and gluing projects or pieces and it never dawned on me to use hot glue in the center around normal wood glue too speed up the progress.. Truly A amazing Idea.. Ty for sharing this with us...
Brilliant top man......I don't get why people disliked the vid and left the thumbs down....You've spent your precious time to show people your top tips and very helpful one they are. Thanks.
+arfonia Thanks for that. Appreciation makes it worthwhile. Well I guess its called democracy and one of the mysteries of UA-cam! I was pleasantly surprised this video seems to have struck a chord with a lot of people (as it is hit and miss) and I suppose it is a percentages game that if say nearly 10K people have taken the effort to click the Like button then 5% will for whatever reason click the Dislike button. My own guess is apart from the serial trolls, people who dislike a video have a specific expectation and if the video falls short they quite annoyed. I only remove abusive comments but I greatly appreciate the mainstream positive comments. I have 400 videos uploaded and there are two or three I removed because there were more Dislikes (under 10) than Likes so I assumed the video misfired. Its a learning curve for everybody. I follow some top gypsy jazz channels and some of the comments about world class guitarists are so are abusive I am surprised they have not been removed by the channel owners but that is UA-cam for you! Thanks for watching.
damn man, you know what you're about, ive actually used hot glue for every single thing you mentioned here, but your presentation, your likability, everything about this video is just great.
I bought a glue gun for crafts, but didn't know you could use it for woodworking. Now I want to learn woodworking too. Thank you for a well explained video.
Just WOW practical ideas right there... never thought about hot glue in such ways (even less with soft materials like vinyl), but now I have tons of ideas. Thanks for sharing this!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. So glad to get the opportunity to learn from an expert I'd never get a chance to meet in person. Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
I am a carpenter/joiner and have been using a hot melt glue gun for many years in a similar fashion to you. Temporary quick positional clamping is a must for speed when on site fixing paneling and crown molding etc'! It provides that third hand that all artisans so often wish for when cost effectiveness doesn't allow for a labourer! So helpful all round really and with two young children it really comes into its own with the multitude of toy repairs that I find myself extending to! Good vid' thanks and regards, Paul Bucky, Manchester, UK.
Thank you for posting this video. I've been a wood worker for a couple of decades and hardly ever use hot glue when working with wood. Your tips and ideas are really good and I think I'll be experimenting with some of the things in your video quite soon :)
Great video, Jeremy! Many thanks for making it. I always had the feeling a hot glue gun could be very helpful but didn't know half of its uses. And thanks to you, now I do! All the best, Rob in Switzerland.
I should have added, thank You for doing it slow enough for learning. It is something the younger crowd does not understand even though their intent is good, they go with lightning speed and no one learns anything.
Thank you for showing. I have just got myself a glue gun and you just showed me what you can use it on. Very good video. Take care Michael from Australia.
No one requested so humbly to subscribe their channel. I am definitely subscribing your channel. Thank you for your video. You are seasoned, I am optimistic about you and also looking forward to your other videos.
Very well done, this has a professional tone to it and I could definitely see you narrating your own show on television. I especially like the format of one narration track with multiple cuts to what you're talking about, much better than cutting to a whole new clip where you're narrating on location.
+Trpratt1 Ha ha - I was once told by some television people I had a wooden voice! But actually I am happy with the way my own channel is developing not least because of the feedback of individuals like you! Yes there are different styles of film making. This subject screams at being filmed more creatively than it often is and I intend improving my videos as resources allow me. Its not just about slick HD but using the medium of film to communicate ideas. I am self taught but had four days working with a broadcast television crew so I learned what I needed to know. The hardest challenge is keeping on topic at the right pace and keep videos short!
+Woodomain - Jeremy Broun Yea I can imagine making them short is always in mind, probably not really a set thing either cause I know if something's interesting or done right you don't even notice it's long, and on the other hand if it's short but the speaker is droning on and spending too much time on mundane concepts it seems like Chinese water torture lol
Very informative! I didn't know that you can use HM and regular together in the same joint. I'm going to try this on an "impossible" clamping job I'm working on.
I've got an 805-15 (15mm stick). The 805's run at 200c, so yeah, it'll leave a scar for a few months. Power Adhesives (TEC), Surebonder, and Ad Tech also make a wide range of sticks and formulations for more specific applications, including ones specifically for wood. Their spec sheets show exactly what temp it softens at, melts (opens), and its viscosity. They make different tips like a wide and thin spread, but I find the stock tip works just fine for almost everything from building heavy duty shipping boxes to small projects and repairs.
When using hot glue to temporarily mount a work piece, lay down some painters tape on the work piece and the mounting surface and put the hot glue on the tape. The tape (when applied over a wide surface area) has plenty of shear adhesive strength to hold the work piece, it just needs a solid bond to the anchor surface, which the hot glue provides.
Brilliant, thanks. Wish I'd known that these were instant grab and how useful they are years ago. Will try and find the model you are using, and have subscribed. Look forward to looking at your other stuff. Thanks again.
Mr Broun, I have bones to pick with you. Watching your video, you made me spend. I just bought glue gun first time. Thank you for wonderful educational video. 5 stars to you
I've got the same glue gun had it for two years now one of the best tools in my arsenal, great video Jeremy very informative, got my gun from Kenyons Oldham, good service even took me in the back to let me try some different glue sticks, I'm a decorator and us it a lot on my job, but I do a bit of origami and have been making roses out of heavy gauge Italian crepe paper and it does the trick a treat 👍🏻🇬🇧👍🏻
+dav snow Thanks. I can't keep up with replying to every positive comment but I appreciate this feedback greatly so picked yours out at random. There is no point in making these videos unless they encourage people to explore their creativity. I am in a way paying back for the inspiration I was fortunate to receive from a brilliant woodwork teacher at school.
Yes I have burnt my fingers with the Glue gun at times and yes it really stings ,after watching your video I really think I need to get a better one. Thank you so much. :)
I liked your useful ideas for the hot glue. If you use high temp glue, there are silicon finger tip covers that are excellent protection against burns without sacrificing tactile sensitivity. They can be found in craft stores.
My late grandmother used to work at Houston Sash and Door back in the early 1970's and she once brought home a HUGE, I mean 20-30mm round (about 1.5 inch), brownish glue stick they used to make the cabinetry and that stuff stuck so well you had to break it off. I have yet to find anything like this since then.
Thanks for sharing, I really like the idea for holdinga work pieces/board down when using a router...I do some sign making and this will help out alot. Thank YOu
Thanks for the video! I have found myself using hot glue in many of my arts & crafts projects and had forgotten how well it works to tack pieces together in woodworking. Good information!
When using hot glue to temporarily clamp a work piece to a bench top (or CNC table etc) apply packing tape to both surfaces wherever the hot glue will be applied. The glue will hold firmly but will pop loose easily when the piece is pried up. If you need to keep it level, use washers as spacers to control how far the hot glue compresses.
I just got a Hot glue gun to add to my tool shop and to be honest I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to use it for but hearing so many people say how much they use it or how much they love it I decided to get one. This video is excellent and showing me all the options where a glue gun will come in handy. Thank you so much and you have a new subscriber. PS your work is amazing!
Thank you Craig. I do read all comments and it is heartening when a video resonates with an individual and one's talents and efforts are appreciated. I have a simple philosophy - I had the good firtune to be inspired by a brilliant teacher by a stroke of luck while at school and I feel my obligation is also to try to inspire others. An open mind to using tools unleashes their creativity.
+John Carey Yes I will when I can find time to explore that. Viewers have already commented on how useful hotmelt glue is for insulating and securing electrics, something I missed. There used to be a flexible moulding rubber when I worked with plastics but hotmelt glue does it perfectly and you can let layers cool then build up more but don't do a mould of your face!
Im not really a fan of wood carvings or so but i kinda liked how you presented. Subscribed. ATB.

I have same experiences about the longevity of hot glue joints. It just peals off after some time. I have used hot melt glue mostly to fix wires in place on printed wiring boards and also other PWB fixes.
Wow. Using the hot glue as a clamp is genius. Well done Sir.
Well done. You didn't wast my time and got right to the point.
How refreshing to hear someone well-spoken on UA-cam, calmly imparting knowledge without shouting for attention.
Excellent video . I have been a carpenter since 1963 and I picked up some brilliant tips watching this . You never stop learning . Liked and subbed .
Thanks
Thank you! I've been a Master Carpenter, Cabinet Maker and Home Builder for over fifty years. I learned several things from your video today even though I've used glue guns for some years but never like I saw today. Thanks D
wow... i loved this video. well made and well narrated
+Miguel Francis Thanks for your appreciation
+Woodomain - Jeremy Broun: Exactly. What a peaceful and appropriate tone of voice can make! I wish you were the guy over my shoulder providing tips and advice while I work.
+Roberto R. MOLA Thanks for the feedback. It must have been a good day to have such a relaxing voice but I will take heed!
One awesome feature is to cheaply make some electronics water resistant, the glue is not conductive so it won't short the circuits.
+LiPe VoLcOm Yes, that's one of the uses that was on my radar. I have also seen many small circuit boards attached with just hot glue. No need for screws, pillars etc. And it insulates. Great stuff. ATB Rob

Thanks Jeremy. I was never clear as to the long term durability of hot glue. The method you use with hot glue and wood glue is pure genius. Sam.
Hello Sam - I hope the gluegun manufacturers consider I am doing them a favour by stating the truth about longterm bond for wood but in using its weakness as a strength in lateral thinking!

What a great idea using wood glue and hot melt together that is genius , I will be using it now , Thanks
+alan manning it is the wisdom of experience. amazing right?
Genius! I'm obsessed with hot glue but never considered using it in woodworking. This is going to save so much time
Thank you for posting this video.

Love the style and info

It's lovely to hear a well-modulated, accent-free voice.
+Silver Legend Everyone speaks with an accent! I take it that your preferred accent is the same as his.
Great video, Jeremy! Many thanks for making it. I always had the feeling a hot glue gun could be very helpful but didn't know half of its uses. And thanks to you, now I do! All the best, Rob in Switzerland.

Very informative and practical to all woodworkers. You have helped me solve many problems. Thank you sir.
this was a great video. I never thought about using a glue as a temporary joint holder during wood work. thank you.
Hi Jeremy, cant beat old school craftsmen, good job and very well spoken.
All the best from oz.
+Jeffrey Baker I don't know whether I'm 'old school' as I am an innovator looking for new ways all the time but I guess I know what you mean!
I've never thought about hot glue... glad I'm still new to the hobby! Thanks, looking forward to more tips!
I love the idea to secure hinges for final mounting. I am going to use that one. Thank you.
+Jason McCabe (Camulas) Yes but you have to be very careful as the bond is really delicate because hotmelt generally doesn't like metal.
Thank you for showing. I have just got myself a glue gun and you just showed me what you can use it on. Very good video. Take care Michael from Australia.
I use it to cover tiny tack and brad heads or holes, with wite-out, for a quick fix.
nice video!
you speak some of the nicest and original english i have ever heard.
No one requested so humbly to subscribe their channel. I am definitely subscribing your channel. Thank you for your video. You are seasoned, I am optimistic about you and also looking forward to your other videos.

+Mihael “MIKELIS” Tominšek Thanks for your appreciation.
Excellent! While I make good use of my glue gun for many things, I have certainly learnt some new things today! Thank you!
Nice useful hints with a good glue gun. I had no idea there were glue guns that got so hot. Thanks for a good video.
using Hot Melt as a temporary fix while wood glue cures and other tips like that is a very good idea thank you
Very nice exploration of hot glue uses!
This is outstanding! Thanks for taking the time to share it.
+Chita Jing It is all in a day's work for me! The fun in woodworking is in looking beyond the basic function of tools and thinking outside the box.
Thanks very useful I just brought a glue gun and you have saved me some heart ache .
Wow! What a very polite creative person. I like it.
Awesome presentation Mr. Broun.

Great video. Awesome tip about that double team with the permanent glue with the hot glue.
Thank You on excellent presentation, I liked the tip on upholstery possibility. Building antique cafe racers, it was priceless! I subscribed!
You are an exceptional presenter, Jeremy - please nag me into not forgetting my subscription.
Very nice, inspiring, well edited , plus I enjoyed your other creative side- your guitar play at the end. Thanx for sharing!
I just bought a glue gun,( shouldve bought one a long time ago! ) i knew nothing about how to set it up. Thank you for your great advice.
thank you for this i had no idea a hot glue gun could be used in this way. making mockups is a epic idea
Mr Broun, I have bones to pick with you. Watching your video, you made me spend. I just bought glue gun first time. Thank you for wonderful educational video. 5 stars to you
great intro vid for hot melt glue guns, thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge...

I'm an 11yr old girl and love your videos 😀
I liked your useful ideas for the hot glue. If you use high temp glue, there are silicon finger tip covers that are excellent protection against burns without sacrificing tactile sensitivity. They can be found in craft stores.
You are a wonderful man! I liked your voice and the tips. I enjoyed your video brother....
Very nice work and clear explanation ! Thanks a lot for making this video .
Really good information. Never thought of using it in the was you described, I'll have to reconsider the use of this tool. Thank You
+Jay Howell Yes many tools have functions beyond their intended primary function. That is the fun of woodworking to explore.
My late grandmother used to work at Houston Sash and Door back in the early 1970's and she once brought home a HUGE, I mean 20-30mm round (about 1.5 inch), brownish glue stick they used to make the cabinetry and that stuff stuck so well you had to break it off. Thank you. I fix many toys with the hot glue gun and this tips will improve my capabilities.
never thought about using hot glue for woodworking like that. thanks for the tips!
Thanks for sharing, I really like the idea for holdinga work pieces/board down when using a router...I do some sign making and this will help out alot. Thank YOu
Enjoyed watching your hot glue video Jeremy, many thanks.
Thanks for the video! I have found myself using hot glue in many of my arts & crafts projects and had forgotten how well it works to tack pieces together in woodworking. Good information!
Great stuff. I use hot melt all the time, and I use denatured alcohol to release the bond, and clean the glue off of parts.
I never know anything about glue guns or their uses thank you for sharing. I liked and sub
When using hot glue to temporarily clamp a work piece to a bench top (or CNC table etc) apply packing tape to both surfaces wherever the hot glue will be applied. The glue will hold firmly but will pop loose easily when the piece is pried up. If you need to keep it level, use washers as spacers to control how far the hot glue compresses.
good tip
easily the best glue gun usage video! hands down. every other videos are just fancy stuffs that are not useful for everyday, unlike your video!
I just got a Hot glue gun to add to my tool shop and to be honest I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to use it for but hearing so many people say how much they use it or how much they love it I decided to get one. Just found your channel. I have a hot glue gun but up until now I never use it. Now I will be using it all time. Thanks, subbed!
Tech Tins same i also
I did as you requested and now it's my turn. Please show more of making molds with hot glue.
Woodomain - Jeremy Broun If you saw my face you'd know why I wouldn't make a mold of it.
Lovely clear and understandable video. Many thanks
Nice Jeremy great tips on hot glueing
Great job easy to watch and very informative.
Thumbs up for the great tips.
I try to remember to wet my finger before wiping away excess hot glue.
You'll be wetting your finger for days - immersing it in water to prevent the oxygen getting in the pain starting!!
that IS a good idea holding pieces together leaving hands free to reinforce with screws
Thanks Jeremy,, I know nothing about woodworking..but really appreciate an artist. so.. I subscribe to give you some encouragement.
+LesliePiper Yes, encouragement is never a bad thing!
Good audio, good video and nice information to learn from you. Thanks!
+C Cosmin Thanks
I love that! glue gun as a clamp. GREAT VIDEO! Finally! I'm sick of always finding crap.
+1loobie can i subscribe 5 times
Man!! Excellent work.. thank you very much!!
I have never bought a glue gun before but you have sold me on their merits, it seems I have been missing out.
Thank you Mr.Jeremy Broun
I just discovered your channel and your tips are very valuable.
Thank you for this wonderful sharing you do.
Cheers!
Subscribed! Great relaxed but informative presenting style, a refreshing change.
Thinking of buying one and now a lot wiser x.
Really great video on the uses of glue gun. Thank you for sharing your great knowledge.
