I met Mr. Mintz's in person in 1988 (probably) when he visited Seoul for his concert.. I guessed it was his first visit to South Korea.. But he was so so warm and humble to audience. He played encores several times as a reply to audience's massive applause. My friend and I were excited to meet him for getting his autograph after the concert and he sincerely gave his autograph to everyone of little music students. Very warm memory. :)
Young composer, young soloist, young conductor; something very fresh, tender, wild, passionate shines through all the way, even if this is standard repertoire. Wonderful! Thank you for making it available!
Managed to catch Mr. Mintz after his breathtaking performance in Tokyo, 1992. The concert hall was buzzing, and his performance of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto left us all in awe. The audience's standing ovation was so heartfelt.. Mintz graced us with an unforgettable encore. He took his time signing our programmes, sharing a word or two with each of us about our love for music. For a student violinist like myself, meeting Mintz was inspirational...a moment of genuine connection with a musical legend.
My personally favourite rendition is that by Christian Ferras (the live recording with a young Zubin Metha conducting). It's perhaps not the cleanest version as he takes many risks but his interpretation of the concerto is so on point and at the same time very personal and sincere. I also like Kavakos' renditions of the concerto (the original and the final version).
Mintz respects the music and the composer by delivering true artistic excellence, unlike others who use this concerto as merely a vehicle to show off their technique and amaze the public. I just love that full bodied Mintz sound. And his bow arm is a thing of beauty. Just perfect!
I saw Mintz play in a tiny theater in Rockville, MD, decades ago. It was like a magic show. His hands are so huge you can't even see the instrument. It is one of the few memories I can still envision as if it were happening today. He manhandles that wooden carcass like a toy.
Great 80s performance. Noticed the Farrah Fawcett hair style sported by some. Have good memories of the disc of this played by Isaac Stern and Sir Thomas Beecham in a snowflake decorated record jacket.
Jesus is and always will be GOD, the reason Israel exists and always will let us, both Jew and gentile rejoice! Greetings from Michigan my home state since 1959, that said just a fine ability you've been given. Thanks for offering this us this opportunity share here. I feel such joy in this rare privilege to speak not just a Jewish man but one that has such an impact with others. Thankyou for your time.
It sounded to me like the orchestra was actively trying to overpower the soloist (everything played in "ffffff") and that the conductor was randomly dancing while extraordinarily high on drugs... Through it all, the soloist still sounded great! I would love to hear the Shlomo perform this piece only with a different orchestra.
Agreed, and specifically that first movement has no such ending as played here, very artificial to try to make such a big deal out of it. The music goes energetically to it’s conclusion. Am not convinced in this instance.
I love Shlomo, and this concerto, but agree fully with this conclusion. The first movement staying in tempo has such a more powerful effect. Not sure Sibelius would have liked the ritard. Otherwise, Shlomo's power and musicality is top notch.

Mintz and Vengerov are the best recordings of Sibelius.
+Barnabas Kelemen
Check him out if you are interested;)
Agreed!
Zukerman and barenboim's recording is out of this world
Agreed
Hahn’s is just as elite
0:54 allegro moderato
16:50 adagio di molto
25:21 allegro ma no tanto
Looking forward to performing this together with him next Monday in Spokane with Gonzaga University Symphony (I play in cello section).
Shlomo Mintz is absolutely the greatest of all ! He is aware of every note he is playing . So sublime . Thank you Shlomo !!!
The clarity of the third movement is just incredible, and what a powerful sound! One of the best sibelius performances.
Young Mintz is the best what can you see and hear in violin art. Ilona Feher also said that.
Young composer, young soloist, young conductor; something very fresh, tender, wild, passionate shines through all the way, even if this is standard repertoire. Wonderful! Thank you for making it available!
The best! I guess the 10 minutes of silence at the end is for to meditate how great Mintz is XD hahaha

best Sibelius performance in my opinion!

@@williemartinez6273 He kind of butchered this piece!

Good but.... Hilary’s version is so beautiful :)
@@jacobtapianieto9655 The non-live version with Karajan and the Berlin Phil is even more amazing.

I have always aspired to his right arm technique. Completely sound.

One of the best live recordings I’ve already seen of Sibelius. Incredible!!!
The best violinist I have heard in my whole life! My heart can hear you Shlomo!
True
Grande Mintz !!!

A magnificent performance by maestro Shlomo Mintz! He has a unique and beautiful sound... 🎻👏👏👏
Incredible Genius. One step below a God. Thanks for this wonderful music.
Amazing. Absolutely amazing. It's as tho God had a love child that combined Zukerman with Stern.

The orchestra full name: Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden
If you ask me this tops Heifitz’s recording

Why do I hear many false notes ??
clean your ears
But Mintz is Jewish
Stop making ritenutos where composer didn't write them, please!! What's up with this tendency to slow down endings. It doesn't work.
