It was 1994 in my buddies living room! He and his older sister were playing a mic of Beta/Revised and I was like, 'What the heck is that!' and I started saving my comic book money for magic cards too after that.
I also ended up marrying his sister, and she's watching this video with me right now!!!

My aunt first introduced me to Magic back when I was about 12. She was moving, I was helping her pack, and we came across her old mtg collection from back when she was in college. It was a small box of 3rd edition and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever! That night I went on UA-cam to look up the rules and how to play the game, and that’s actually when I found your channel. I asked a group of kids at school if I could watch them play, we became great friends, and I’ve loved this game ever since.

I was 12 when I started playing Magic. I was living in Massachusetts at the time and had gotten into it because my brother was playing it. The first new set coming out was Ice Age but I had started buying packs with Revised, The Dark, 4th Edition and Fallen Empires. I bought a ton of Ice Age when it finally released. One of the best openings I had was when I bought the last three packs in a box of Ice Age. I pulled a Jester's Cap and freaked out. The guy at the store, who I was friends with, said I should sell that and buy a starter deck for Ice Age. I did it, cause why not. I pulled another Jester's Cap from the Starter deck. We both lost it. This guy told me, "I'm going to open a fresh box of Ice Age and buy you three packs. You pick the packs and we'll see if your luck is still good." He cracked the box and I picked my packs. On the last pack, I opened another Jester's Cap. That was one of the most intense openings I have ever had with packs. Thanks for the awesome vids and content and I can't wait to see what's next!

I started my MTG journey with Aplha way back in high school. Loved opening packs, playing, and admiring the artwork of Magic. We spent every lunch period playing Magic, as well as after school and before school if we arrived early enough. After Ice Age, I lost interest, and over the years, it resurfaced off and on, most notably in the military while deployed - we played a lot overseas, which really helped draw me back in and pass the time, because deployment is never fun... thanks a bunch for this! Great nostalgia and fun to watch!

Hey I'm Marc, 27 y/o and been self-employment for 2 1/2 years now, right before corona broke out in germany. It's been a rough last year, but some FNM and buddies kept my head up.
I first started magic back when the 7th edition launched and my cousin from all across the country visited and he showed me cards and i got my mum to buy me a couple of packs. ofcourse i didnt know a whole lot about it but we played as far as a 6 and 8 year old knew! My favorite card back then was Vizzerdrix! After a huge break i came back to MTG 6 years and got introduced to modern by a couple of friends and been playing ever since.
Thanks alot for the fun content the past years! Stay safe!

Man watching this revised opening was absolutely awesome! I started playing only about 3 and a half years ago towards the beginning of my freshman year of high school, my best friend got me into magic and commander when we were sitting around at one of our waterpolo tournaments, and ever since I’ve been hooked, my collection has been slowly but steadily growing and Commander Legends was my first set to actually be able to by my own booster. Still always going down to my LGS with him to get in some games. SKADOOOSH!!

I started playing while station in Bosnia with the army (peace keeping force I 1996/97. We had just finish working an Apache helicopter, it was 1 in the morning and we saw this senior NCO messing some cards, so we asked about he said this company named wizards of the coast was supporting the troops by sends boxes of starter box kits and nieces of new cats the play with. He explained in general how to play and said they play every day in the chow hall. We told him we usually work til one in the morning, he said not a problem, he arranged for to play every night for the next 8 months, we didn’t make a lot of money in the Army, but magic has made me poor since 96. It was great to get away from the real (not such a great place at the time) world for 3-4 hours everyday. Love you channel!

My brother taught me how to play Magic back in the OG Zendikar and I was hooked for life. I was only 12, but he had me play against a d20 and once I could figure out how to “win” against the d20 by turn 4, he let me go to a tournament. I played his vampire deck. I didn’t know what a sideboard was so I played a 75 card deck. To this day, it is the first and only tournament I have one.

I started Magic while in my first year of college. I was just getting back to school after a super bad knee surgery and infection that almost made me lose my leg. Some nice dudes who became my friends sat next to me and taught me to play. I was given a mono green infect deck. I went and bought my first pack, which was Theros, and my first gift box was Khans. I still have a lot of major health issues and surgeries, So MtG collecting when I can and content on youtube like this, helps me pass the time on near constant bed rest. So your channel is keeping me busy while i wait for these tumor surgeries and neck surgery! thanks for the vids

I was just starting High school when Revised was still available, but at the tail end of the run, my local store still had Legends and the Dark packs.
The cards had this unpolished look to them, like they were actual spellbook pages shrunk to card size...part of the appeal I guess. Then the glossy Chronicles and 4th edition came out, looking cheap.
    I remember opening dual lands.
I also remember getting hosed on my first trade, getting a playset of Sea Serpents for my Force of Nature.
    Good times.

Grew up playing YuGiOh. Owned some MTG cards cause the art was cool but no friends played. 1st year of college rolls around I still own all my YuGiOh cards but now the game is so drastically different I no longer care for it and all my decks were either banned or useless. A friend wanted to get into Magic and so did I. So we went to Wal-Mart and bought a starter deck and deck builders tool kit each. Now I have an arsenal of commander decks my wife and I pull from to bust out and play with friends. I love this game so much now for not only the play but the art and lore as well. This is an incredible experience to see someone open a full sealed box of revised good luck to everyone who reads this on your pulls in life!

My cousins introduced it to me and my older brothers at our family reunion camp out, in Yosemite National Park. We played all week with the cards they had made decks out of and had so much fun at the camp tables (no sleeves, yikes). When we went home my older brothers starting buying their own cards for us to play at home. I got my own when I earned my own money and like most, they ended up in a box in the garage for years until I got back into playing/collecting in 2015. Love the game more now then I ever did back then!

I first started playing magic when i was about 8 yrs old and my big brother brought me over to his friends house and i saw that they had tons of magic cards and decks in there room. There had been magic cards in my house before that and my brother played a bit so eventually i started hanging out at my local lgs and found a sounder full community and look at me know getting top 3 in a store championship and spending 1.5k plus on a modern deck only 4 yrs later.

I had a sleepover with my pretty much only friend at the time when I was 12. We camped in the second floor of his mom's office next door to his house and we stayed up half the night as he taught me how to play Magic. The first ever spell I cast was a revised Llanowar Elves, and forever I fell in love with elves. He took me to the local Baseball shop next day and I bought my first starter, Tempest (Reflecting Pool, Meditate, can't remember the third), and a copy of Scrye.
I organized a chaos draft with friends about 12 years ago. Packs of revised were ~50 if only we'd kept them sealed haha. But it was a freaking blast, brought us all back to the day.

It was late 1994 on Vancouver Island B.C. Canada when I was first introduced to magic, I remember my babysitter showing me the game and I was instantly enthralled by it. My earliest memories of MTG and my first LGS I remember the store owner showing me the revised packs and telling me how their cool but its the unlimited ones that are way better but he had just sold out of unlimited a few months earlier. I also remember him talking about the ultimate card the "Black Lotus" and how it was going for something like 200-400$ and I couldn't believe spending that much on a single card (Sure wish I baught every one he had now...).

I was 34 years old and was living in Michigan. I was playing Yugioh at a local card shop with my fiance and I ran into an old classmate he said "Why don't you come down to Nostalgia for some Magic" we were at a place called The Collectors Zone and he was referring to Nostalgia Ink; after we finished our game of Yugioh we caught the city bus back down town and after borrowing a Commander Deck each me it was Karametra God Of Harvest while my fiance played Sidisi.
We fell head over heels in love with Magic that very day! The first packs I ever touched and opened were Dragons Of Tarkir!

So i essentially started watching mtg for a few years. your channel and alpha investments along with simplyunlucky was my very first introduction whenever that video game out. im not kidding when i see YEARS passed where i didnt try it. i moved down to SC last year and went into a BAM. (books a million) wondered around for a little bit but came across an ikoria bundle which i decided to pick up. i then got addicted to cracking packs and now understand why everyone does it. i bought another box and it was a zendikar rising gift edition at a local lgs and then with those cards and ikoria i made 2 decks where i sat down with my dad and played my first game. We both didnt really know the mechanics so we watched a few tutorials and it was really fun. since then ive bought product and crafted a commander deck. so thank you go giving me an addiction that i probably forever will hold.

First ty for taking me down memory lane. This was an awesome video.
I started when Revised came out. Friend got me into it. Wes used to go a game shop in the mall called Boardwalk. I remember getting a box every paycheck from there. Always had bad luck. My brother had all the luck.
On a side note the owner of the shop was an OG Magic player. He invited my brother and I to join a group of Magic players every Sunday at Denny's to play. They would rent out the back room and we would play for hours. I learned a lot from them. The best was watching one guy who every time he played a Chaos Orb would reach down and pull out this 12inX6in Chaos Orb card and flip it. We always got a good laugh.
Ty again and I have really enjoyed watching your videos.

Joey - this was a real blast from the past, looking at those cards took me back through the decades. It was an experience to live vicariously through this video, an opportunity to relive days gone by. I can't tell you how many starter decks and booster boxes of this set I opened back then but it was quite a few. I was introduced to the Alpha/Beta MTG in 1993 while visiting friends in Columbus Ohio. I was not a very good player and whenever I decided to join in a game my friends used to say, "Oh, we are playing "Care Bear" magic tonight." Part of the problem was any good cards I pulled went right into the collection. Thanks again to the participants for sharing this experience and thanks Joey for hosting the epic event. (OMG - older than I thought, I was in my mid-30's when Alpha Beta came out - - -gees the mind is going sooner than I expected).

I started magic right after fallen empires released, I was in the 7th grade I think. A friend had shown me his cards and how to play. But I didn't know where to buy cards at. I went into Target with my family and I checked out the sports cards area and there on the shelf, next to the basketball cards was a nearly full box of fallen empires! There was no price sticker however, so I asked a clerk if she knew how much they were. She scanned one and it came up item not found. So she looks at the product next to them which are some cheap cards, $1 per pack and says she honor that price! Even cooler! After begging my folks about it, ended up getting the remainder of the box. Thanks for the opportunity to share what I think is a kinda cool story in my life and definitely laid the groundwork for being a longtime player of this awesome game.

First time I played was just at the release of Ice Age, I was about 6 and visiting my brother in Portland not long before he went off to the marine corps, he handed me an Ice age starter pack, we both opened one up and he ran me through all the rules as we started playing with a couple of decks he had already made. I still have the Polar Kraken I pulled from that first pack. Been playing ever since on the regular, it helped to get me through some shitty times in Afghanistan, having friends and family send out cards in the care packages and teaching others the game too, but sadly no longer have most of that old stuff from selling off most of the collection in 2015 for a few hundred bucks, like an idiot, lol. Rebuilt a bit of it since and started teaching my kids the game too! Awesome video, bringing back a lot of good memories.

I started playing magic around the release of Shadows Over Innistrad. My friends were home from college and invited me over to hang out. They whipped out a commander deck centered around Erebos and gave it to me to keep and play with them. I've been playing magic ever since and exposed me to amazing creators such as yourself. I'm sad I couldn't participate in this break, but I'm looking forward to being in one as soon as possible!

I actually started when I first enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, I was will one of my best friends and he’s been playing since he was really young so to pass the time I learned how to play and eventually feel in love with it. Starters collecting more than playing after watching you and Alpha Investments on UA-cam, and never looked back. I still play IRL when I find the time and on MTG arena with my brothers who are still serving over seas and all over this great nation!

I moved to a new neighborhood after switching schools from being bullied (Probably around grade 4-5). Was somewhat shy, but I seen a bunch of kids huddled around a house corner playing a different card game. I only knew Yugioh at the time, so it was completely different. Seeing these strange land cards, and the creatures sideways. I went to a corner store nearby, and picked up an 8th edition white starter deck, and the game at the time was.. just a passing interest until grade 7. Found out my teacher Mr Gruber also played, so I would skip recess and play with him instead.. he made me appreciate the game so much more, and it spiraled my wallet out of control since.
Thanks for the great content Joey, keep up the good stuff man! SKADOOOSH!

I started playing recently. About a couple weeks before AFR came out a couple of my friends wanted us to get back into card games since we had played Pokémon in the past. They mentioned magic and after a little while of playing, I fell in love. Now, playing this game is one of the things I enjoy the most in life.

Awesome video Joey! Thanks to everyone who participated to make it possible!
I remember seeing Magic packs on the store shelves growing up, but as a younger kid I was more into Pokemon. Haha. Then in college, after one of my work shifts, I decided to hang out with two of my friends who were going to play a game. Enter, Magic the Gathering, and I was like "woah the art on this is freaking gorgeous." At the time, I didn't even think to ask what his oldest cards were, but a lot of them looked older in pretty darn good coniditon. They taught me to play Magic in 2017(?), and I started watching UA-cam videos...and shortly after I subbed to Moss Boss's channel! And have been hanging out since. My first purchase of cards was a fat pack of Origins for 25$. I don't know what else to say, thanks for reading :)

I first discovered Magic (and TCGs in general) by watching my dad and his friends play. I guess they had all been playing since '94-'95, and when I was old enough to grasp the concepts of the game, my dad bought me a Portal starter set and a Mirage starter deck for my eight birthday in 1998. I've been playing ever since, buying and receiving cards as gifts throughout the years, and I still have nearly every bit of my collection I've amassed since. Even played standard FNM at a few different points throughout the years. I've always done my darnedest to make it to every prerelease I could ever since my first one with Tenth Edition. I haven't played standard in a good while aside from Arena. I now just play casual with my friends, be it 60-card casual, commander, or Oathbreaker. I thank my dad for teaching me this game 24 years ago, and I will forever be grateful.
Love your vids, Mossboss. Hope to see more gameplay and deck videos from you in the future. Best regards to you and yours.

I started this last year during the Forgotten Realms set. During a jam session in a friend's basement, a couple of my long time D&D friends got me pumped up about the set and I couldn't resist hopping in to see what MTG is all about. I bought the Prosper Tome-Bound pre-con which started me off with an absolute mess of mechanics to keep track of. The treasure tokens got me hooked right away. So far I'm obsessed with Pirate cards/themes and have finished my first self-built deck that I finally play-tested yesterday. (It did great!) So far I'm still building on a small budget, but I'm loving how much there is to learn about this game and enjoy really thinking of mechanic synergies. Sometime in the future I really hope to put a deck together that is full of all the amazing art, old cards that you pull in a lot of your videos. I didn't think I would be into watching people opening packs, but I watched a video of yours and enjoyed your fun style, so I've caught every one since. Thanks for popping these packs so we all get to enjoy it with you!

so for me ive been playing magic for roughly 6ish close to 7 years. Im currently 15 almost 16. I first discovered it after my parents divorced and my mom brought me and my brother home and said there was a guy in the house. I remember it very clearly he was sitting in the middle of the floor backwards hat and on our xbox setting things up so we could have hundreds of games to play. little later he introduced us to magic and taught me and my brother how to play. His name is Eric and he is my stepfather. Magic has brought a whole new level into my life and allowed me to meet some of the best people ive ever met.
Edit: watching these are great because of how iconic these cards are and the fact that I wasn't even close to being alive when Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, and Revised were released being only 15 years old

I started playing when my brother in law brought home this pamphlet back in 2013. My wife and I had just gotten married and I remember seeing the pamphlet on the side table in our bedroom as I was going to sleep. My brain kept thinking about the pamphlet and the game's name "Magic the Gathering" and so after 5 minutes of thinking about it I decided to open the pamphlet and see what this game was all about. As soon as I finished reading I texted my wife and said it sounded like an interesting game. The next day I went to vintage stock and bought a theros fat pack. Ended up pulling my very first planeswalker from that fat pack. Xenagos, The Reveler. Thought he was amazing. I also pulled my first god, Erebos, God of the Dead. And I've been obsessed with the game ever since.

I first learned about magic when I moved to Arkansas. I played some other card games before hand and hadn’t really met anyone here yet. I went into a local shop to look at what they had as far as board games. Magic was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. One guy taught me about commander so I bought lord windgrace precon and some ixalan packs and it led to the closest friends I’ve ever had and it introduced me to my wife and now we have a beautiful baby boy named Oliver. The guy that taught me is now a godfather to my son and I’m proud to call the friends I’ve made through this game family. We still play every week.

My first encounter with magic was when I was about 10 years old. My grandfather was an avid baseball card collector, and he took me to the local baseball card shop called The Stadium. Looking back the name was quite ironic because although the card shop was on the square of our small town, it was actually down a flight of concrete steps in the basement under one of the retail stores. It was very dungeon-esque. Anyway I remember seeing all the baseball cards in the cases and the complete sets of TOPS, Donruss, Fleer, etc. But what I really remember were the starter decks of Magic The Gathering sitting on the counter top. I am almost positive these must have been Alpha or Beta and I convinced my grandfather to purchase one for me. To this day I have no idea where those magic cards went. Likely in the trash when I left them laying around. Thanks Mom!

1996 , freshman year of high school. During our lunch hour, me and some friends were walking to our local lunch hangout and found a badly damaged mtg card on the sidewalk. One of my friends knew what it was and explained the game to the rest of us. That weekend I purchased my first starter deck of 4th edition. I remember pulling a Cosmic Horror and thinking it was the coolest thing in the world.

back in 1994 my friend showed me this game ("it's like D&D on cards" he said) and then convinced me to by a few packs. so i bought 2 revised starter decks and about 4 revised boosters and a couple of dark packs on his advice as well as sleeves and a clear plastic container to store them in. first pack was serra and force of nature - big 8/8 beastie. another pack was fork. needless to say my first deck was basically green :) 27 odd years later i still have those cards (and a TON more) and a bunch of empty revised packs and empty starter decks ( i dunno why - but im keeping them). this vid brings back good memories :-)

We played a "one shot" version of some D+D and he brought along some MTG decks.
I fell in love with it pretty much instantly. It was a game so complex the only way I could describe it to my wife was; the luck of poker mixed with the complexities of chess and a splash of cluedo diluted with some uno.

I ordered and opened a Double Masters booster pack and pulled a Force of Will. I then ordered an MH1 pack and pulled a foil Wrenn and Six. I was super hyped. I love watching your videos because I love the thrill of cracking packs. I like you also buy the mystery boxes and things, but I do it to maybe crack into something I've never had the chance to. My first-time playing magic was in the 5th grade. I think it was at 4th edition. We would play during recess, and after school. About 8 years later a flood ruined all my Magic, and Pokémon cards. (God, I wish I still had them, I could have bought a house with them) After graduating I joined the ARMY. Went to Iraq and got blown up by a roadside bomb with only1 month left on my 12-month deployment. I woke up in a military hospital. Had over 50 surgeries in 4 months then finally got to go home 8 more months after that. I was lost, broken, alone, and depressed. I came across my childhood friend that got me into Magic in the first place. He still played so we went to the LCS and started playing organized magic again. Lorwyn was the set i came back to.

The sun rose on that morning of the year 2015. My last year of high school had been uneventful and lack luster. I sat down next to my friends who were already deep into a conversation about my friends new deck. I had never played magic or even really seen anything about it. Curiosity did grab me and I leaned in. The excitement that my friend had as he showed his new cards made me excited for him. Looking at the cards and the art just popped. Crazy looking creatures and spells. I started asking questions and was fully encapsulated with this card game. Wanting to help keep me interested we went to our local game store after school and I picked up one of the pre-built 60 card decks, sadly I don't remember what it was called or what cards were even in it, but man it was the start of some of the greatest fun I have had with my friends.
Joey, I appreciate the opportunity that you give all us magic nuts. Thanks for the fun and exciting content. Don't ever stop.
