This was their last recorded song and wasn't released until 2002-2003. Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic had to battle Courtney Love to put this song out as she didn't want it released. It's funny because even at the time this was released it still fit right in with modern rock radio.

I remember the excitement and chills I had when this song was released. New song by Nirvana years after Kurt's death. Like it brought Kurt back to life just for a few minutes. Sweet and sour feel.
Nirvana has been my biggest band growing up, and when this song was released i knew just how bad kurt was hurting through his final months, and how trapped he felt. even Dave Grohl says he can't listen to this song anymore because he hears nothing but the wails of pain and not an actual chorus. he feels this song was kurts cry for help and it fell on deaf ears.
nirvana often did a multi track for kurts voice. its him with himself, but good job recognizing that. because its him on top of himself its really hard to pick out, but you got it.
@@emonymph6911 Kurt would do a double take, simply recording himself twice and playing both tracks together. It creates an amazing vibration among the two tracks. Michael Jackson did this as well
@@ANT1989 Fun fact, Kurt wasn't really a fan of multi track vocals as he considered it inauthentic, he wanted his music to be as raw/punk rock as possible but the producers, Krist and Dave eventually convinced him to keep it this way. I highly recommend you listen to the first and only live performance of this in 1993 at the Aragon Ballroom. It is so much more lyrically, sonically and just far more powerful. Knowing it was being heard for the first and only time live makes it even more haunting. Actually its "Hey" not pain, most people think it's "I have never failed to feel pain" but its actually "I have never failed to fail" followed by Heys in the chorus. If you isolate the vocal track its more obvious, but even just listening to the song if you try to really focus on the pronunciation you can hear the "h" sound instead of the p sound
As their final recorded song, this is a good idea of the direction in which Kurt's writing and the band was heading...IF...Kurt had lived and if Nirvana had stayed together.
One of the more interesting songs from them musically you can hear the Pixies in there but if the Pixies rocked this hard and had way better vocals they would have made a lot more money.
Nirvana’s most “Alice in Chainsy” song. Kurt supposedly told Courtney Love “I just wrote the coolest Alice In Chains-like song” referring to this track which went unreleased until 2002. It's not YEAAHAHHHH.... I have never failed to feel... Paaaaaiiiiinnn... It is not a violent song... The conflicts are with himself and his inability to deal with, well his own inner demons, and the way they hurt him and those who are close to him. This was actually the last song Nirvana produced before his untimely death in 94 I think? Many including myself believe his death was not a suicide, but in fact murder... His wife Courtney Love is the suspected culprit.
I am just gonna put in there that he never was suicidal. Yes, he had a lot of inner turmoil. Yes, he was an addict. But the only person who said he was suicidal was his wife, whom he was actually about to start getting a divorce from. She was a terrible influence on his life. She stood to lose a lot if that happened, so I truly believe she had him killed. There were so many things involves with the crime scene (like how the empty shotgun shell was on the opposite side of him from where it should have ejected to, despite the fact that there was no nearby object for it to bounce to the opposite side with), and the toxicology report (3 times the lethal dose of heroin, that would have left him incapacitated) that just didn't look like a suicide. But since she had stated her concerns about him being suicidal to the police shortly before his death, that is what they determined it to be. They just basically took her word for it.
