Kurt's sense of Harmony and chord changes is far more advanced than many think, he was no Steve Vai, but he knew about intervals and harmony, and movement in a song
Absolutely. The dramatic nature of his death, and his "icon" status obscures a very sophisticated understanding of the fundamentals of music for someone so obviously self-taught. He had the goods.
@@jerebondar8128 You don't know that, he did'n said that. He just said that sounding like him is not easy. And then said the same thing about Billie Joe from Green Day
@@andrepereira744 Steve Vai's point about Billie Joe was that even though many people does what he does, he stands out and you can tell him apart. Similar to Kurt but Kurt's whole sound is pretty unique to him.
The progression is: B C# Dsus4 E. Yeah, as a child I was captivated by this chord progression! Kurt is a genius, it still sounds great. The song itself is Ace! Greetings from Russia!
Would like to see you react to Nirvana - Floyd the Barber live at the Paramount/Seattle 1991. It's a very short song 2:20, but it's become one of my recent favorites by them.
yeah, that could be right. i think the whole bleach album is very melvins influenced... btw.. dale crover played drums on some tracks idk for sure but "dive" could be one of em...
Great reaction and review. Love how you like to figure the songs out. Kurt had a real ear for interesting chord progression and sound. Even the tuning was sometimes bizarre. I think you'd like a lot of songs on Bleach and Incesticide. Two songs that are pretty bizarre are "Hairspray Queen" and "Beeswax". Those are stranger picks mind you.
Hi from France. Listening to Nirvana since 1993. Musician too. I do appreciate your analysis and your very sharp ear. Excellent job Sir 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I ve Always thought krist and Kurt played different part when Kurt sings dive, dive, dive, dive with me.
The album cover is Kurts artwork and if I remember correctly its supposed to be a self portrait of himself because of how self conscious he was about his weight
This album, Incesticide, is just a collection of random songs the band collected: Demos, unreleased songs, released after the success of the Nevermind album. Each song only had about 15 minutes spent on the mix alone
For the longest time, that G power chord in the chorus sounded like a D to me (D right above the previous C#, not a lower D), and I thought it was just the bass going to the G. At an older age, I can no longer hear what I thought I was hearing years ago.
Kurt was at his most artistic and creative when these songs from Incesticide were created. He was living in Tacoma, WA heavily into the bohemian arts culture there with his girlfriend at the time, Tobi Vail. That's why they all sound so different from the rest of the Nirvana catalog and feature alot of odd chord progressions and other odd stylings. Kurt was doing things on this album with his voice he never did on any other album. That's why alot of us die- hard Nirvana fans think this is Nirvana's best album.
If I remember correctly it's B - C sharp - E - F sharp (5th string) and sometimes he alternates/ends with G and E on the 6th string (instead of E and F).
Whew! I was bracing myself for my fave Nivana song being shafted. It's so simple, but like you say the chourus. THe hook. Plus, the cymbal ride on the verse? Kinda ironic with the dark tone of the song. Plodding along. It's pure grunge for me.
I like your reaction videos very much! I would like to see you react to Nirvana's "Polly" from the Nevermind album and "(New wave) Polly" from Incesticide. You could do it as a comparison in one reaction video. Here are the links to both songs. Polly: ua-cam.com/video/h5cZvNWxnho/v-deo.html (New wave) Polly: ua-cam.com/video/euqdJRKbMdg/v-deo.html
The guitar is going up the fret board and the bass is going up then going down the scale of the fret board to create the dissonance. If that makes sense. (I've been drinking so....)
When you've been playing music as long as I have, you can anticipate where songs are gonna go and when each phrase is gonna end and the next one will start. It's all comes down to feeling and counting and experience. I usually guess correctly about 90% of the time, especially when songs are simple.
Kurt got a bad rap. Everyone wanted hair metal and he stood against that mentality. He Deconstructed music amazingly. Just listen to that solo or a great example is hi cover of the Man Who Sold the World. Nirvana is no way my favorite but I respect them like crazy and I think many under rate them just because the are punky.

fun fact: Steve Vai was a fan of Kurt Cobain's guitar playing

Kurt was the one who drew this album cover btw. He was a very talented artist, not only as a musician
Nirvana might be my favorite band to watch you react to… its like a time capsule… youre realizing kurts genius… and we get to watch it happen
I am enjoying it too! Love watching people listen to Nirvana.
Kurt's vocal work on this entire album is amazing. One of the best screamers/singers who used distortion of all time.
Fun to see reactions to those more obscure Nirvana songs. Always loved the riff and that thick drum sound on this one.
this was one of the first nirvana songs i learned to play! and also blew my voice out on. thank you for covering this!
also the album cover is kurts artistic representation of a self portrait. his own drawn artwork
me oo , I think it might be the first track I ever learned completely on guitar
The progression is: B C# Dsus4 E. Yeah, as a child I was captivated by this chord progression! Kurt is a genius, it still sounds great. The song itself is Ace! Greetings from Russia!
The Dsus4 is actually a plain G major on the guitar, and D on the bass.

Hell yeah. Studio version is awesome!
The chord progression is the Melvins influence shining through.

Incesticide is by far my favorite Nirvana album. I find myself always coming back to that one when I need my Nirvana fix.
Haha... Love how obsessed you got working out the chrous!

My favourit Nirvana song ...
Great reaction per usual👍🏼..you’re on a roll with Nirvana! I believe this is the 5th or 6th song in a row you’ve liked from them.
The album cover is Kurts artwork and if I remember correctly its supposed to be a self portrait of himself because of how self conscious he was about his weight
LOVE that second inversion G5 in the chorus :D
Heavy as fuck. That's all you need to know.
I request Stain, Love Buzz, Spank Thru, Sappy or Aero Zeppelin.
Aero zeppelin for sure
Those drums on Aero Zeppelin.. so good. Courtesy of Dale Crover
Stain is a killer!!! love it!!!
Check out “Hairspray Queen”
Good underated song
Would've preferred live but i cant complain haha
Pretty good to my ear. Great reaction
FYI I blurt out "It'll get you there" whenever someone says some kind of number. Nobody gets it of course but I can't stop doing it. Damn you legend
LOL FEELIN' YOU Dan!!!
Love it! David you’ll have to think about making tshirts ha!

Let a LOW LOW signal .what an amazing line

you should review Sappy, specifically the smart studios version of that song.
Rick Beato interviewed Krist a while back and confirmed it was Kurt going B-C#-D-E, while Krist decided to drop to the G
If I remember correctly it's B - C sharp - E - F sharp (5th string) and sometimes he alternates/ends with G and E on the 6th string (instead of E and F).
First time I've seen you break out an instrument during a video . I like it, next time plug it in.😁
I need to buy a little combo amp, my rig is waaaaay too big and too powerful for my little studio.
Check Nirvana Loung Act
Hey David ! Check out Tremonti - If Not For You. This is particularly a very good piece of mix and the vocalists are insane ! 🤘
This chorus riff is so epic
Simple song but Kurt takes it to the moon. One of my favorites 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
Both Kurt and Dave liked Celtic Frost and I think you can hear it more on this song than anything else Nirvana ever did.
Whew! I was bracing myself for my fave Nivana song being shafted. It's so simple, but like you say the chourus. THe hook. Plus, the cymbal ride on the verse? Kinda ironic with the dark tone of the song. Plodding along. It's pure grunge for me.
For the third chord Kurt plays a G but Krist plays a D, giving it that cool fat suspended sound :)
Kurt era o melhor incomparável
Good
"Good going in his ftreated39
Wow never would have gused

Their song structures are simple but no less effective than complex ones
The fuzzy filling comes from Krist playing the fifth ...like a power chord..
Is it Mixolydian?
Kurt Cobain: "I dunno. It's that thing I do that works."

scp 096 is in the house babyy
Kurt Cobain, hability Sense of The simple notes whit harmonics scales.
One thing about u man is you know when to stop the song at like the ending of a chorus , idk if u have heard it before but nice !

I can't tell if dave is playing drums or not..sounds good but not beating the ever loving shit out of them
This is Chad Channing on drums.

cmon now. its b to c# g to d to e
since the verse is in f# u shoulda assumed D was in the mix.
Gordo, lo que pasa en esa progresión, es q el bajo hace un re y la guitarra un sol.
Pick me pick me yeah
