When the 747s first came into service on Pan Am (my family’s favorite transatlantic airline), I missed the 707, which felt more “rugged” to me, due to it’s stiffer frame and wings. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the 747s, especially Braniff’s 747SP, a real hot rod with a shorter lighter body and the most powerful factory engine option available at the time.
I love the 747 series. In fact, I flew on a NW 747-400 on my first ever flight waaaay back when I was a teen back in the stone age, lol.. They have a special in my heart. So much so I purposely booked a KLM flight in the Business class from Amsterdam to Hong Kong in the winter of 2019, right before KLM retired all of them. I will always remember that flight.
I work at ups airlines in Louisville KY and get to see the brand new 747-800 and 747-400 variations every night! Beautiful aircraft, my favorite since I was a young kid!
I was stationed in Germany in the 80's. I flew home for Christmas every year. Each time was on a 747. I loved the comfort, and the service I received. The best service was from Lufthansa. I also flew to my brother's wedding in California from Germany in July of '88 however that flight was on a L-1011. The flight was longer, and less comfortable. I was so happy to see DFW!! Flew to San Francisco from there on a virtual puddle jumper. (I forgot which aircraft it was.)
Matthew Matthewq if you’re boasting how awesome 747 are be they will out live some other thing , they must be utterly awesome if they stand a chance to outlive the human race. Or perhaps such comparisons are petty.
From an age when international air travel was something to behold. They were so good because they were over engineered and designed by geniuses. We still miss you Pan Am!
For sure, 747s are going to be missed. The only version I haven’t flown with is 747-8i. I have been on that IRIAF 747 couple of times. Back then, those planes were fitted with temporary seats to carry passengers travelling during the Iranian new year holidays. Pipes, wires, and switches exposed everywhere. Unique experience!
When the 'Queen of the Skies' are all gone it'll be a sad day. All of the rest of the planes will look like ...just planes. Nothing to see here...just move along. Just like plain oatmeal.
I've flown NYC to Bangkok many times and the room to stand up and walk a bit was something I really appreciated about the 747. Also, that big airframe gave a smooth ride. Landed like a feather. What an amazing job Boeing did with it. Glad she'll fly on, even as a cargo carrier. That beautiful bird deserves to continue showing off it's iconic shape the world over.
Still in the eyes of a lot of people, the best aircraft in the sky, and will be for a long time yet......we are lucky enough to have one parked just down the road on display......a real treat to climb around in.
Classics, with their fab spiral staircases up into the premium class. I shall miss their huge retractable wing flaps, which you just don't see now a days.

The B-747 are the most elegant objects flying in the skies at the moment. No wonder these are called "Queen of the Skies". These airplanes are probably the most fun to fly with and the experience must be overwhelming. Today's airplanes are not as glamorous nor comfortable to fly with since most of them are smaller and narrower and this gives passengers feeling of being cramped into some kind of a tube. Hopefully, these planes will fly for a long to now and hopefully, I will be one of the lucky one to fly with these.

Lowkey crazy that the classic 747s are all retired from passenger airline service. I didn't expect that a 747-400 would already be the oldest 747 still flying commercial passengers.
I was fortunate enough to fly on Pan American Airlines inaugural 747 flight from N.Y.C. to San Juan, Puerto Rico as a young boy with my mother and father. We received all kinds of commemorative trinkets. Some are still in my parents home.
My cousin loves the plane so much he bought one to turn into his home in California he is an architect and just fell in loved with it he is using most of the fuselage wont be completed for at least 2 years but it should be great!
I flew to Hawaii on Continental Airlines very first flight of a 747-100 in January of 1970. To this day I have flown in every variant, most often the 747-400. Until the pandemic I often flew Lufthansa Airlines, and when I do I try to always fly on their 747-8i. With one a few carriers still using the 747 it is very sad as I consider it he greatest passenger plane ever built, bar none.
I loved the -338s that qantas flew from east to west and back for a time before their retirement. I would always look for the MEL-PER flights that had the 747-338 scheduled to fly and pick those
Flew on my first 747 and co incidently my first expereince and flight on an Airplane! when I was 9 , what an experience , We were bumped up to Business class as our seats were used for some kind of medical emergancy , It was an SAA 747 , Cemented my love for the plane , and 4 engined planes in general . Always felt safer flying long distance on a big 4 engine Jet , Even the A380 , Emirates (absolutly loved this plane) and A340 SAA (Also a wonderfull plane) were awesome to fly on , Now these twin jet planes make me nervious .
I'll have to admit, what Boeing did with the 747 during development was impresseive. At the time, it was widely believed that in the future the 747 will be superseded by supersonic airliners for commercial passenger service. So Boeing must've had the foresight for the 747 to continue service by also designing it as a freighter should this happen. Fast forward today, and that foresight is paying off, as the 747 now continues flying as a freighter. Although it wasn't superseded by supersonic air travel, but by more fuel-efficient, and advanced twinjets.
In my opinion the Boeing 747 shall stay the most appealing aircraft ever. I flew several times on this majestic plane. Always a wonderful sight to see them.
Will I miss the 747’s??? Yes I will!!! The first Boing 747 I saw was doing continuous touch-and-go landings at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) in November or December of 1970. Since that time in my business career, and for personal travel, I’ve flown 750,000 +/- air miles - not one mile on a Boing 747. It’s still my dream to fly on one, but it looks like time is running short for the two of us. But it’s still my dream to fly on the Queen of the Sky.
Boeing 747, my favourite Airliner ever. I remember my first flight on the so called Jumbo jet, in my eyes it was massive compared to the other planes, I instantly fell in love. It was back in 1984 (Milan-Bangkok). That was the time in which the major constructors where Boeing, McDonald Douglas, lockheed and Airbus.
when I was 17, I directed an Epic Student Film... Well I thought so. Got an A. United let me and a group of high school kids spend an hour on a 747 during a turn around at O'Hare, United's home port. It was amazing! They wouldn't let us in the cockpit, but we had the run of the plane otherwise, as long as we stayed clear of the cleaners. 1977, so the plane was no more than 8 or 9 years, and likely younger. This was before I knew to look at the planes name and info pate on the door frame of the entry hatch.
I will miss older 747's, most especially Philippine Airlines' 747-400's which have been retired in 2014. I dreamed on flying on those aircraft, but it was too late.
I will miss the 747s when it finally stopped being used for passenger fights. My very first experience with flying was on a 747 operated by ANA when my family first came to the states in 1996. I was lucky enough to be brought upstairs by one of the flight attendants and even looked inside the cockpit while it was in the air. Didn’t catch the model number back then though.
747 is 1 year older than me . I have flown 6 times between Australia and Europe . I cannot get excitement from same same twin jets . The golden age has passed :’(
In early 1970’s When I lived and worked in Spain ...Frequent flyer on TWA round trips NYC to Madrid, loved the plane and the service. Miss TWA and will miss 747
My first 747-131 was in 1974, JFK-LAX. In 1984, I flew on 17119, which eventually flew as TWA 800 and blew up near Long Island NY; I have a picture of myself boarding via outdoor stairs, and I was shocked to see the serial number when I looked at it.
I flew that Wamos 747 from Olso to JFK 18 months ago when it substituted a Norwegian 787. It was really in bad shape. I was seated upstairs in the strangest first class seat I have ever flown in.
I am South African, and SAA had about 3 or4 747 SP,s, and I flew on all. SAA later leased out one or two 747 SP,s to Air Mauritius and I flew on them when flying on Air Mauritius. I loved flying on all the 747 variants.
Was about 6 months old when they went into service! Poor me got to work near a airport for 25 years! I have passed the federal background check and could get a job at airport just a shame the wages are so low☹️
Retired machinist for Boeing and out of all the planes I made parts for , the 747 was always my favorite . Though the 777 was a close second . Too bad upper management has steered the company away from how we used to develop and make aircraft . The pride we used to have was an every day thing .
I have fond memories of flying on 747s from Los Angeles to London to visit my extended family. I’m sad to see them go. Gotta love the spiral staircase in first class.
Wonder how old Kalitta's 747 freighter is. There is something special when you board a flight and the captain greeting passengers: 'Welcome aboard our B-757 built in 1977 ...' Happened on a flight from OGG to PHX.

You still can in flight simulator 2020 if you get a nice set up! All kinds of super realistic flight sim setups for at home now. 747 lives on.
Did you ever get to fly a Lockheed L1011-500? I heard many pilots say they were a delight to fly. Maybe not as smooth as a 747 though.

Some of my best trips involved the 747s... others don't compare
I miss 747's already but I had a great love of the dc10 & md11..
I am a boeing 747-400 pilot in air india, just a remarkable aircraft
Of course I will miss it, In My Opinion, it is the most beautiful passenger airliner to ever fly!!
I have an Inflight200 of this original Boeing 747 in House Colors with the airline decals on the fuselage. Love this plane. Interesting video btw.
the Queen of the skies..... always been my favourite.
747 is the only queen of the sky, it hurts when she is going in retirement, I hope she will come back !!!!!!!! The 747 is unreachable!!!!!!!
The golden age has passed :’(
I always miss the grand Boeing 747. It has an amazing, royal shape. Looks so majestic.
Where can I find it?
I flew that Wamos 747 from Olso to JFK 18 months ago when it substituted a Norwegian 787. It was really in bad shape. I was seated upstairs in the strangest first class seat I have ever flown in.
I am South African, and SAA had about 3 or4 747 SP,s, and I flew on all.
SAA later leased out one or two 747 SP,s to Air Mauritius and I flew on them when flying on Air Mauritius.
I loved flying on all the 747 variants.
Feeling kinda weird to see a 747 which is just 10 yrs younger than my father...
Was about 6 months old when they went into service! Poor me got to work near a airport for 25 years! I have passed the federal background check and could get a job at airport just a shame the wages are so low☹️
well feel the sting being 10 yrs older than 747 Woe it hurts... I think I"ll retire right along with them
Congratulations.
Retired machinist for Boeing and out of all the planes I made parts for , the 747 was always my favorite . Though the 777 was a close second . Too bad upper management has steered the company away from how we used to develop and make aircraft . The pride we used to have was an every day thing .
Definitely going to miss the 747. Was the first airliner i could identify.
I have fond memories of flying on 747s from Los Angeles to London to visit my extended family. I’m sad to see them go. Gotta love the spiral staircase in first class.
I will TOTALLY miss the 747!! #QUEEN
Yes i will miss them
I flew from buenos Aires to lax, it was AMAZING TRIP, I never forget it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's so cool
Absolutely YES! Will miss them
always have a 747 toy to remeber the 747s
Wonder how old Kalitta's 747 freighter is.
There is something special when you board a flight and the captain greeting passengers: 'Welcome aboard our B-757 built in 1977 ...' Happened on a flight from OGG to PHX.
despite all boeing problems old boeing company built the best memorial planes in 747 they will always be the best large aircraft ever 🙏🏻🤗
I will certainly miss them. Had the opportunity to be passenger on some and it was special. And by far the most beautiful passenger jet.
