- Опубліковано 29 жов 2021
- Roy Wood Jr. argues that police officers should stop talking in code over the radio and commemorates the 30-year legacy of the cop who ignored Ice Cube in “It Was a Good Day.” (Contains strong language.)

Depending on where you're from, seeing the police "roll right past you" is a blessing. Not that you expect to go to jail but often just being left alone is the true American dream.
Great material!👍
That literally is THE AMERICAN 🇺🇸 Dream just to be left Alone👍
Like I always forget to renew my tags, too busy working to worry about a sticker. Then I see a cop and think I'm about to have to deal with something now, but if they roll right past it's a good day.
You ain't never lied. I take a deep breath every time they roll past me.

Letting the audience finish the line was a nice touch. It made so even people who weren't familiar with Ice Cube's music knew how important it was.

I thought that was very classy. Seriously. Great comment!
I had no idea what they were talking about but it was funny & good audience participation.

They use codes for literally everything except their location...which is arguably the only part it would make sense to put in code XD

@@Vohlfied 😆😂🤣
They even have a code for when they go on break.

The code is just to reduce mic traffic and make sure there’s no confusion between people. They have call signs, which are normally their car numbers and code for a host of different situations that are standardized.
I used to listen to this dude on the radio on my way to work and back in Birmingham Alabama. I'm glad the world gets to share his talent now.
Wow thats cool, I didn't know he was on the radio
He's really good😂
Yeah bro, 95.7 back in high school.
It was so crazy to realize who this is. Huge part of my teenage years, still hilarious.
Now that you mention it I can hear the southern twang in his speech.
"It's drugs, it's not criminal. It's an addiction. Go fight the real crime." You're right, Roy. The real criminals are those making money on addiction - of every sort. Addictions killed my dad and my brother and people made money on both.
100% fight the real criminals not the victims.
okay but you still can’t blame the dealers

Just 1 crack 😅
As a former police officer, I agree that code is just dumb. It had a point maybe at one time, but not anymore. I've went into a lot of houses of people I arrested that had scanners. They also had a list of the 10 codes.
If they had scanners and knew the codes I doubt they just sat there waiting for you to come in their home.
Speaking from the Netherlands - here, the old radio system was still pretty much "wild west" where code definitely mattered, even when everybody with a scanner had lists with code meanings. And just about everyone had scanners. Heck, you'd be looking at 12-year olds with scanners listening in.
But nowadays the system is digital, and digital scanners are mostly kept out of the equation by ways of licensing, cost and other methods - there'll be some people that still manage to get those scanners, but it's basically a handful (plus some members of the press), and even if there was code that they'd share with the public, that public wouldn't have access to either the digital scanners or the network - thus pretty much making the need for code into a dinosaur.
@@mannyamato3421 They don't know I'm coming. If it is for warrants, we organize it before hand. Occasionally, it is for domestic disturbances and they are often still there. They both want the chance to claim the other started it sometimes but at least one will still be there.
@@EvilFookaire the 10 codes varies a little from department to department. (I went from one department in which 10-9 was "repeat" to one in which it was "officer needs assistance". I forgot a couple of times. LOL!) But, the 10 codes were out there. They've been used for a very, very long time.
I always thought the point of the code was just to allow information to be conveyed faster, not secretly. Like, saying "Code 2-D" is faster than saying "Responded to someone yelling 'Help, Police' but it turned out it was just some actors rehearsing." Is it really actually about keeping secrets?
This guy’s solid.
Alabama's best.
Usually, this one not so much. How do you think a violent criminal will react when they hear they have a warrant over the radio? Cops let ppl go all the time, as long as your not acting like an asshole to them, you have a great chance of walking on small charges. Dime bag of weed, just don’t be a dick and your probably walking. Me and my buddy got pulled over, I’m white hes black and the car smelled like weed. I had pills and he had weed, he walked and I got locked. We were both very respectful and civil, we probably would’ve both walked but I had a lot of pills and cash so I wasn’t going anywhere. This was like 10yrs ago and the Deep South. I know he’s just making jokes, but not everyone has a brain and will think he’s being serious
It ain’t that serious bruh
@@KelticTim he’s a comedian not a politician man

When I was in the army, the mp's would occasionally follow you in the hopes that you would get nervous and make a mistake so they could ticket you. One time I took an mp all the way to the hospital on post and parked; he then parked in a spot adjacent to me. So I got out of my car, sat on my hood and just stared at him. He quickly tried to play it off like he wasn't following me like roy said. It's the small things that make being in the military fun.
Yep. Cops know goddamn well that just being there makes people nervous. And they enjoy that.
The really fun part is when you drink with off-duty cops and they assume you're on their side. You'll hear the real stories then, not the PR propaganda... and it'll turn your stomach.
You just described my everyday living experience being out here in the rich-folk part of the south

Saw him right before covid and even though i heard alot of the jokes before hes a legit comedian. So funny
he probably was working through the material. i love seeing comedians when they do that... they have their notebooks out and stuff trying to see what works and doesnt.
"What's the score of the Lakers-Supersonics game?" - Love to hear that score again and hopefully soon!
Most people can agree with the decriminalization of drugs policy, but you know.....government corruption and all. War on drugs is big business.
“War on drugs..”
marijuana-yes, other stuff like crack, cocaine, meth, fentanyl-those should stay as they are.
This guy has moved into my top 5. He can do straight up jokes as well as hilarious routines like this with a message. He always hits.
Roy Wood Jr, I love you, man! Your comedy is nuanced, brilliant and super hilarious! I mentioned you to my son this week (to promote your new comedy special) and he said "My mans Roy is The Truth!" I'm in my 50's now so I don't speak Young Folk but I think that was a compliment to you! 🤣😂

The cops and best friends that are black joke was amazing.
I love how serious his topics are, sometimes even the jokes, yet he keeps the crowd rolling. MasterCraft with a message.
His standup is funnier than the daily show
Def
Most comedians stand up are funnier than their shows. So much that when you say this comedian is funny and people give you the crazy look you have to go "hold on hear me out" and show them their actual stand up.
Creating stand-up freely without a precise topic & having to create jokes for a very specific news, is different. It's incomparable; pls don't bash.
Recently found this comic gold. And he drops my Supersonics!? I'm sold. Dudes hilarious
His style is impeccable 👌🏼 and he dresses nice too, do your thing Netflix
that Ice Cube joke at the end with the audience cracked me up!
He's hilarious and spitting facts about the criminalization of addicts at the same time
he joking but society gone look back one day and be ashamed of putting addicts in jail
I worked for a company that used radio codes. "Dispatch, I'm 10-98, 10-19 and 10-100" sounded a lot more professional than "Dispatch, I'm done with my schedule and heading back to base, but I gotta stop and take a dump first".
Take a joke man, jesus
Man you could’ve said all that the regular way except the taking a dump part. And who tf gets that specific about “taking a dump”? If you take that out and replace it with “use the bathroom”, you won’t need a code for that either. You actually prove his point by saying “it sounds more professional”. That’s exactly what he’s making fun of……JUST TALK REGULAR. Lol
@@jwdathefax377 exactly. When regular folks insist on doing that stuff like that it makes them sound like weirdos with some kind of cop or army fetish, playing make-believe. There's no reason for it. It's just weird.

Truth be told, 70% of petty crimes are ignored on the daily.
This guy has just ascended into the Bill Burr level of comedy. This is really outstanding material.
Let's definitely not go THAT far! Roy aight, but Bill level? Your standards for someone's ascension is very low.
@@retiredreligion I'm not saying he has accomplished the same amount as Burr, they are at different stages of their career. I'm confident Roy is of the same caliber. He is definitely more talented than the "popular" clique of comedians. Honestly compare this material to anything Tom Segura has come out with in the last couple years. This blows it out of the water. Roy will be an important voice.
He's been there
Excellent point!👌
Comedy is subjective. I think Bill Burr, Dave Chapelle, Eddie Izzard and other top tier comedians can run circles around him. That is my opinion though and I am sure some consider him far better.

This niga making serious sense. I love this guy
I mean... if interactions with law enforcement included a little compassion and empathy for you as a member of the community these officers are sworn to protect and serve... you probably wouldn't want them defunded or abolished... they'd be viewed as generally good caring people. But... long gone are the days where a cop would follow you home simply to make sure you made it safely.
Those days never existed though. That's the point. Those days have never existed for people of color.

I always thought a good way to build a Bridge is to have a Community day where the Police are In Uniform and interact with the Community they're protecting. Get to know the people you're fighting for
that’s the biggest problem is that cops don’t have ties to the community they protect
Bah. That's pure PR bullshit, a stunt. They just play basketball with the kids in the afternoon and beat people up later that night.
It happened all over during the BLM protests a couple years ago; cops holding hands and singing Kumbaya with the people one minute and bashing heads later the same day.
That joke about drop them off at the dont do no crack building lol.. reminded of a devin the dude song- go fight some other crime. Haven’t thought about that song in years but the sentiment brought it back .
Roy you killed it during this special great comedy very good unexpectedly smart
To many civilians have police radios in their kitchens, and listen all the time. I was at a friends house when I was a kid, it was morning we had hot cocoa his dad had coffee and we were just listening to the radio. Friends mom said oh his dads a volunteer firefighter 👨🏻🚒 I was just wandering why we weren’t listening to the fire chief radio 📻 got no answer
It's public access, anyone can listen to it, they don't need a good reason
One of my uncles used to leave his scanner on constantly. Apparently he just found it fascinating to know what was happening in town; he wasn't a wannabe cop or a dealer or anything remotely like that. I always thought it was kinda weird.
He has a point 😂 its not like gangsters are walking around with walkie talkies
Funny how after years of singing that song, I never truly acknowledged how legend that line was. I'm too busy thinking about how I didn't need to use the AK cause today was a good day lol
