I'm surprised Joe has never discussed Giorgio Petrosyan. He's widely regarded as the greatest kickboxer of all time and easily one of the most impressive records of any fighter. If kickboxing was as big in the west, he'd be up there in fame with the likes of Anderson Silva and Manny Pacquiao
The other part about training Muay Thai in Thailand; they don't spar hard, or at least they never had me do so. Just light and working on technique. If you're just drilling and training a lot, with super light sparring, that inherently lets you just fight more often.
+mixalis It seems like a damn good way to do things. You get to drill so much more, and truly internalize the technique. Meanwhile, you're fresh for an actual fight that can advance your career, instead of being beat up during training.
@Idiris Shekh, Fredrika Bremergymnasiet SA19b elev, In traditional muay thai people fight 2 times a week sumtimes and have hundreds of fights in a career. When you fight this often hard sparring is not nesesscary because you get ur experience in the ring.

Muay Thai or rather how it’s practiced today is no isolated to Thailand alone. That style of fighting belongs to literally all of Southeast Asia, and Thailand certainly didn’t originate it
Joe is right boxing & kickboxing are great, but nowhere as entertaining as a solid muay thai fight. But all the traditional aspects of muay thai need to be cut out for the martial art to really take off in Europe & the US.
I don't get why muay thai doesn't catch on, most UFC fans find the ground game boring, so why don't they watch a combat sport that has everything except ground fighting?
I love muay thai, I always root for the thais when they compete against other fighters but it's not just the traditional stuff that makes it a little boring to some. When you watch an actual full rules muay thai fight the clinching can get boring too, especially if it's two thai fighters from thailand then almost the whole fight ends up being a clinch fest and a lot of people don't want to see that.
Doing the wai kru dance is a part of the muay thai culture and tradition. I think all mauy thai practitioners should honour whether they love it or hate.
One of my all time favourite things to watch is Women's kickboxing. It's a small league so they all know each other..... and HATE each other, hahahahaha! So much more fun to watch when you see people really try to destroy their opponent.
they're talking about MUAY THAI, not kickboxing. change the video title please. It is far different in origin, intricacy, and style compared to kickboxing which has erroneously become an umbrella term. American kicking boxing is a derivative of Karate and Western Boxing. Japanese style kickboxing being more influenced by Karate and Muay Thai. Muay Thai dates back to the mid 16th century and utilizes 8 points of striking. It's important to distinguish this imo.
Thankyou for pointing this out. People dont realise that Muay Thai and Kickboxing are different sports and arts. Kickboxing in itself is an umbrella term for various iterations of the art form. P.s. cant forget the dutch style kickboxing which is derived from western boxing and muay thai
Here's the difference. Anyone can box, not anyone can kick. Boxing is more entertaining for your average individual because it's more accessible. For me personally, I prefer boxing because of how intensly different all the different styles are. Of course this is true of every martial art, but boxing allows more odd styles that haven't worked in anything else (think Philly shell or peekaboo). But of course I love kickboxing and mma as well and watch all 3 every week
@mr.doctorcaptain1124 I agree and it's why I like boxing a lil more too, styles really do make fights. These Thai fighters have a different upbringing. Way harder life than anywhere in America. U also have to remember that Americans nowadays all rely on guns so they are getting physically weaker each day
Probably because of all the kicks to the body, kicks score more than punches. And they don’t spar hard, you’ll never see Thai boxers sparring in headgear, it’s light, controlled and technique focused
Let's be honest. Kickboxing would beat muay Thai any day if it weren't for ONE THING and that thing is leg kicks. But since that's not the case, muay thai is superior.
