Although this place was on my list for a while, my first time here didn't go quite as expected. The highs & lows is what really made the journey so I can't really complain too much. Thanks for coming along!

That trail has some amazing history to it. I am a historian with a local historical society. The flumes were built after the low grade lane was built because the water coming down the cut would freeze up and block the lower tracks. The old foundations in the river date back to when they dredged coal dust from behind the dam. The railroad grade at shenks ferry went beyond the spot that you stopped at to an iron mine that supplied the furnace at safe harbor village. I would be glad to answer any questions you may have about the railroad history of the area along the Enola Low Grade Line and Columbia area. Thanks for sharing the video

Thank you for taking the time to pause on the information plaques. I really enjoy reading those when I get to visit historic sites.
Also, one reason for seeing large numbers of birds over the trail area by the cliffs could be that the birds are using the updrafts that occur in such areas to help raise their soaring altitude without having to expend extra energy.

Believe it or not, the old PRR 138kv feeder wires above that trail are still active. It’s used to take 25hz power from Safe Harbor damn to feed the Harrisburg end of the keystone corridor. It goes eat East too from Safe Harbor to Perryville and Glen. And yes GG1s did once run where you biked.

At 34:37 ... I've seen a whole video on a guy searching for this culvert, he called it "the hall of the mountain king" :D He also found some more culverts along the way. Sadly I don't remember the channel name anymore because it's been too long
Edit: Used the youtube search and found it again. It's from The wandering woodsman and called ""The Hall of the Mountain King" ~ Culvert Hunting along the Enola Low Grade Trail, Lancaster PA"

Loved the little waterfalls at Mann's Run, and glad you got to explore some tunnel culverts, too. I hope you can catch next year's tour of the Safe Harbor Dam, that would be cool! It would be really great to see some petroglyphs, if you make it to the islands. Really nice signage along the way and especially loved the Peregrine Falcon sign. Those birds are the fastest in the world with clocked dive speeds of over 200 miles an hour. Awesome photo montage at the end! Thanks so much for bringing us along!💙💙

🤔 Mighty Susquehanna River, man made Lake Clarke and Lake Alred more like it. Just something about damming up a wild river just kind of takes its mighty out of it if you ask me. Maybe someday you'll get out my way and see the mighty Mississippi River. Again it's not so mighty with it's locks and dams in place these days. I wish I could have seen them two hundred years ago... I do hope you go back to this area sometime. Would like to see more. Like the native american rock art. Imagine some of those culverts were train tunnels going down to the lower main track that is still active. Those big culver shoots in the thumbnail, are more like aquaducts, I would say over top of the active main line. There are going over instead of under. Can you imagine after a big rain storm, bet that must be like a huge water spout coming out, like a huge waterfall. I imagine those old ship pears would have been for building the damn itself most likely.

And I love when you add humor to your video’s, thank you for bringing us along for the adventure. And what was it with the stink bugs, we had the same problem like three year’s ago. Where they were everywhere. And I kept finding them in my house. And they took a trip along with the other bugs and spiders down the toilet. Lol

Those tunnels, look like old railroad culverts put in and designed to keep water from washing out the track bed above. They are crosswise to the old rail trail you guys are biking on. They look just like railroad tunnels, but I'll just about guarantee they were not for trains. We have some very similar ones on the old original transcontinental route on the Sierras. Now if you slip me some google map details on the abandoned structure video, I'll keep slipping you some info from the west coast. Deal? lol

That giant tunnel where you guys split up was the way to Shenk's Ferry. I made the same mistake but in reverse! I ended up at the dead end at the house too and took the roads to Shenk's. I was trying to get to the trail from Conestoga. I ended up going under the tunnel and into the Historic Site, which wasn't open at 4am for some reason! I mistakenly got past and down to a railroad thinking it was the trail. I had to ride the access road next to rhe railroad into Pequea. Made it to The Pinnacle Overlook and killed my rental ebike battery! It was worth it for the view! Never got to ride any of Enola Low Grade Trail like I planned! 😂
