- This video brings me to Marietta Pennsylvania to explore remains of an 1800s quarry and a man made artificial cliff. I was invited down by @mattPG78 to see areas that he's very familiar with, but that I've only ever seen in his videos. We brought our scooters down to save time on traveling and we spent a few hours exploring some hidden history along an old rail line.

This place was something special. Not only was the scenery gorgeous, but all the "ruins" were fascinating. Those blast furnaces were right out of midevil times .... so cool! All the buildings and archways and walls. I bet that place was a sight to see back in the day. Thanks Matt!!!

These overgrown structures are just gorgeous looking! Those big arches covered and partially hidden with greenery are an exciting place to explore. The whiteness of the cliffs is an interesting contrast.

The arched concrete structures were the supports for storage bins where the finished product was kept for loadings into rail cars

Wow! Those are some pretty cool ruins. You have everything from the cliffs of dover to the Roman arches...lol... I love the furnaces. The way they are built is like a work of art. So many fascinating things to see on that rail trail. Blown away again by the architecture. I wish things today were still built with the same durability and beauty. ✌

Loved coming on this adventure with you. So much going on! I wouldn't get in that water either, and my temp here in FL. Is 95 degrees with a heat index of 105. I enjoy it when you show us your journey to get to your chosen destination. To me, it's part of the "come along with me" invite you extend.

What an amazing exploration. The views from the cliffs were absolutely amazing and looks like one could have quite a time sliding down the slopes. I'd certainly be willing to give it a go! I love the ruins buried in the woods. Really gives off a mysterious vibe. Can hardly wait to see where your next adventure takes us. Until then stay safe and God bless.

I live right along the Chesapeake, in Maryland.
A bunch of British ships from the War of 1812 were sunk & still are under the water -- as the British were trying to block American's from using a part of the waterway to get supplies.
I don't know why they were never pulled up & saved as a part of history. I don't know where that location is any more
You'd like the Concord Point Lighthouse & the Keeper's House across the street. Call a head to see when it's opened.

The Wandering Woodsman has been to the white cliffs several times. I really enjoy them. He has not videos the ruins that you have in this video. Not fair you did not film your way back up the cliffs...lol. Tell Lili Happy Belated Birthday for me...I noticed that it was Thurday 7-20,

What an awesome exploration! Really interesting history and gorgeous views! The cliff is just beautiful, and I agree, breathtaking! I remember thinking that it looked like snow. The structure that you said looked like a house, I thought so too, and again to me, kind of resembles a castle, one of my favorite parts. The building that you thought was a power room is so cool, but that spider though, wow, really big! lol Those massive arched supports are incredible and I bet you are right in that they were supports used for some kind of platform, so fascinating. Looks like you two had a fun scooter ride! Love your photos! Great video JP, thank you!

Wow! That's part of Pennsylvania I've been to! I have pictures of train's crossing the bridge! I also saw 3 mile island when I was there too, and we went to Hershey to the Chocolate factory. Awesome video JP! Really cool stuff there!

We live near that trail and I have been on it with my bike. I did not know you could cross over the tracks and see all that stuff. I just never thought about it. I have to go back now..., thank you, great entertainment.

Ahh now you are in my grandpa and great grand parents area! I knew you would get that way sooner or later ....yep still stalking PA from OH... There should be old silk factories around there too! I think they closed in the early 1900's. My grandpa worked full time at 13 yrs old in the silk factory and later for the railroad....
I get around, sometimes later than sooner lol

That place is really cool, those old foundations are the remnants of a large cement factory that still was standing as of the late 90’s . The white cliffs are made up of the waste rock and old cement from the factory. The whole operation was probably 1/4 mile long

Loved this adventure. So many good things to see. Maybe there is a deep hole full of water at the quarry which would be dangerous for people to be around. Maybe that's why it's off-limits to the public. My favorite part was the brick on the one structure......really unique form.

Haldeman & Billmeyer I think was the company that made the refractory bricks.
I imagine it’s changing the ph of the river- I know limestone is used to restore acid mine water sources.
That is a very big building, biggest i ever seen. Looks like most of the processes where done inside the building, would be amazing to see it in its original state.

Very enjoyable informative video. Very nice area. I doubt if the limestone getting into the river can be any worse from acid mine water up our way(Scranton/Wilkes-Barre). Don't know what "taggers" get out of what they do. Something ill never do

I would've liked to catch at least a glimpse of the quarry reservoir, what's left of it, but as you've stated, it's not open to the public. Darn! Great video though.

Why is it that construction photos and videos of old world structures such as the Shocks Mill railroad bridge are sparse to nonexistent and the construction time frames as well? "It was opened in 1905." When did construction began and by what means were those huge block stones set in place during the late 1800's? I assume construction must have taken a few years when you consider the logistics, equipment and skilled man power available at that time. The history is spotty to say the least.

Honestly I'm not sure. Matt said they were blast furnaces, but I did mention to him about coke ovens when I was there.
They look like coke ovens. Rural Pennsylvania is riddled with them.
OK. Just saw you talking about the limestone quarry. Likely they baked the limestone in the ovens to make quicklime.
