Day in the life of an Ocado delivery driver

- There’s more to being an Ocado driver than simply sitting behind the wheel of one of our automatic Mercedes sprinter vans. As one of our delivery drivers, you’ll be the face of our business for the dozens of diverse Ocado customers you meet each day.
Our drivers spend much of their working day on their own but are very much part of the Ocado team. Being a delivery driver is a physical role and you could be carrying shopping of multiple crates. Each crate currently weighing up to 18kg (equivalent to carrying 9 x 2L bottles of water) and these will need to be delivered to each customer.
As part of your role, you’ll be delivering shopping into people’s homes which can be up or down numerous flights of stairs. If there is no lift, we still guarantee the same service.
If you're up for this challenge then apply to one of our delivery driver roles closest to you. Seach and apply here: ocadogroup.careers/YtDriverJobs
Just writing an essay on distribution and last mile for a supply chain subject and Ocado really came through as the #1 reference in tecnology and delivery. Truly a great example on the market!
We have Ocado and the service is amazing.
If I apply for Wimbledon london Ocado as a driver are the routes far would I need to use the motorway at any point?
Would I need my own car? Or can I travel to the depots by public transport or cycle? And does anyone know if they send you on the motorway or is the deliveries in London (if I apply in London)
I start working for ocado this Monday coming. Very excited
How's that going for you, I'm thinking of applying there.
@@sheikhsodar5875 not a good company to work for in my opinion. I was fired Friday for having car issues and on top of that i had one shift to witch i clocked in 3 mins late and was warned if it happened again i wouldn't have a job to come back to. Im now starting a new job next week working for tescos instead
@@sheikhsodar5875also you don't get any breaks during your shift until you've finished your route. Every other driver ive spoke to says its just non stop and you'll always be behind on deliveries even if you leave the depot early (you won't be paid for it though)
@@sheikhsodar5875 just bear in mind the reality is staff turnover is very high (of 4 starters: 1 left at end of 1st day, 1 left after 8 weeks, and 1 failed probation after 12 weeks, 1 is still there. Most of the managers look at it as a revolving door with barely time to put a name to a face before they are gone. As with all forms of van delivery work, it comes down to what routes you get and how you settle into their shift pattern. Expect to be working 3 out of every 4 weekends and have have a poor work / life balance.
You can be sent anywhere and you won't really be working a small area with your own regular route as customers don't buy stuff every day. It will take a year or so before you have visited most places more than once.
Im starting in the cheadle branch on the 11th december really hope i like it and the job is fairly easy to pick up. how you enjoy it?
How much hour wage for driving ?
On my 3rd stage of interview, really hoping to get the job. Fingers crossed.
Which location are you applying to?
@@0rrin new warehouse in purfleet off of the a13. You work for ocado? I imagine you are Welsh by your name.
@@jessewrites3819 Not Welsh. I'm applying at Park Royal site in London but my issue is DVLA have my driver’s licence as I'm adding additional entitlements. It's now put my application on hold.
Entitlements?
Are you doing your hgv ?
Good luck though keep me posted.
@@jessewrites3819 Yes I've added provisional entitlements for HGV's. DVLA has been having some strikes so it might take several weeks before I get my licence back. Let me know once you start at Ocado.
full uk auto license only?it will be okay to apply?
Yes u can apply as their all automatic vans anyway..
@@abz5811 thanks my friend
How many deliveries per day ?
average is 20 drops and 160 miles.. from Peterborough depot.. depending on AM or PM shifts etc.. you'll always get behind btw
Ngl I actually love this job, the whole job is very relaxed. Given reasonable time for each drop and usually a decent window if you start falling behind, you’re not punished for a late delivery as long as it’s not a constant thing.
Get to go home early if you finish your route early even if it’s hours ahead of when you were expected. (Rare but I’ve had a few instances where I’ve gone to the gym, got home and started watching a show all whilst still technically being paid)
Was genuinely surprised with how great the job is, horror stories of other delivery companies put me off at first but Ocado are actually telling the truth when they say they’re different

How are you getting on?
I started today, so far so good
@@Harry-hk1elhow far do they send you ? Is it motorway trips? Or will I do deliveries in just london
The longest journey I have seen is 233 miles with 920 kilos of food to be delivered in 8 hours. There is a 70% dropout rate after the first month of easy deliveries before they start bumping up the amount of deliveries. When you get negative customer feedback you will get verbal warnings if you fail to phone all the customers that you will be running late for, these phonecalls will add to your time and will make you more late. I hated the job.
I'm interested from India
Today an ocado overtook me on a blind hill with cars in front coming opposite way almost crashing head on into it. Then the foolish driver drove across a roundabout forcing his way on causing other vehicles to brake and he had his arm out the window with his middle finger up at me. When called in they asked what colour was the van. How stupid dont they know their own vans. The reg of this van was KC19GWM and date Thursday 4th Jan 2023. He should be suspended waiting for a disciplinary hearing. He almost killed people. Wrong side of the rd at 60 mph
Ocado management at their spokes are lazy, unapproachable and up their own arse
Mate - You should've reported him both to the Police AND (more importantly), "Ocado" H.Q stating why
The "middle finger" alone would see him get the sack , or severe disciplinary at the very least
I was a Royal Mail Truck driver back in the 1980's & 1990's & there's NO WAY they'd tolerate that
If you didn't report him (being a wanker) then you're doing us all a disservice - He NEEDS booting out
